The only problem with either solution is that such auras will affect you even before you save the hostage, which might make fighting the boss and guards problematic. This should only be a really big issue for stalkers, and there's ways to deal with enemies that can see through your stealth anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, them and anyone with the Stealth pool, have been granted invisibility, under Group Invisibility, are under the influence of Steaming Mist(?), or are using Superior Invisibility. It would stink for anyone who's functioning as a scout stealthed/invis'd, not just those launching an alpha strike.

"Okay, I found the hosta...**WHACK**... rez please."
  2. You throw out Magic cards?

Commons are good. Just because something is common doesn't mean its worthless, has no purpose or won't work. Same reasons as NancY pointed out, on top of people like me helping out lower level SG mates (especially new players, or new to the server players) or just n00bs in general.
  3. I don't expect farming to be an issue either. If you're going to farm a game, surely there are more profitable ones out there to do so in.

    -edit- spelling
  4. Oh - and I'll point to the GvE goodie pack as precedent and proof that its possible.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Addendum for minor doom - if that happens, expect RMT (real money trading) to happen. They go hand in hand, those two.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Bah. NCSoft is a Korean company, COH is supposed to be a casual game. I'd expect to see them offer items for purchase via microtransactions like Exteel is supposed to offer before they let farmers start populating things. Besides, isn't the drop system supposed to be relatively farming-unfriendly/inefficient?
  6. But why would they offer it *that* low? If its indeed that rare an item, why not offer it at half the average price or somesuch?

And how sophisticated do you think the average WentPrime buyer or seller is going to be, just out of curiosity?
  7. Maybe its an attempt to train players to offer less for items or risk (grossly) overpaying? And the cheaper items being sold first to train sellers to sell for less lest they sit on unsold items?

Low levels are transitory. Only the endgame matters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I seriously hope you're joking...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Everyone plays for different reasons, and for some people this is true. In my case, that statement is almost completely untrue, however. Even after playing for 15+ months, I still haven't bothered getting any of my characters up to 50 (the highest is 41, and the next highest is 20).

I enjoy alt-ing a lot, and even with my namesake 41, exemplar a TON. Perhaps I'm being a "st00p1d n00b," but I find the creative parts of the game and the journey a lot more interesting than the max level destination. With origin specific attacks, i8, VR and my GVE perks, making new characters is even more interesting to me than ever before!

I will eventually get my 41 up to 50, but if there's *any* big reason for that, it's be because I can make a squid, and even then I'm not massively motivated to hit the big 5-0. Its entirely possible that I'll just "get there" eventually from socially playing with friends or some folks I know who are constantly offering to PL me (I've missed a lot of content already due to social running friends's missions and sk'ing, so I actually remade the character to play through and see stuff - good so far!).

He's not wrong in his statement provided its not being provided as an absolute truth of the game. If he is, well, then yes, he's wrong because it provides too limited a reason for people playing. Otherwise its his opinion, a statement of his personal motivation, etc.
  9. Oh come on - how un-American is the consumer rewarding the lowest seller? Or the seller still making a profit, even if its a small one per item. Look at freakin' Wal-Mart, Target, Sam's Club, Costco, etc. Other MMO's are practically Beaverly Hills, "I'll pay top dollar for everything!", custom-boutique fantasy lands that if done in real life would give most of us exceedingly large debts over our heads or never buying anything because the price is too far out of reach.
  10. I've actually been looking for help arrange such things myself. I give you X-inf on server Y, with you then giving X-inf (minus tip/fee) on a different server.

That whole "who do you trust" thing comes up, though. Not everyone I trust has that kind of influence on the target server, after all, nor do they always have a use/need for that much influence on the origin server...

Some people I play with on a different forum also tried arranging for a salvage "swap meet" ages ago, too.
  11. Meh... If I closed my eyes and ignored the influences transfer idea, I like the way WW is set-up. Maybe they need to put a warning of some sort like "Attempting to launder influence from other servers may result in loss of influence. Whitworth's was designed to be a center of trade, not as a bank."
  12. It was more based off the answers given, not to just one poster.

I'm just afraid of pointing fingers, yelling, screaming, paranoia, etc., running rampant at WW, and generally souring the mood/experience.

"OMG, somebody intercepted me! I'VE OBVIOUSLY BEEN GRIEF'D!"

There is no way to interpret intent in this case unless someone goes around bragging about it.

If it keeps the mood/atmosphere more pleasant for the community as a whole, then I hope they do put in inf transfers just so we can skip this whole laundering/interception back door nonsense... which I'm sure has already been suggested (on break - can't read the entire thread as I'd like).
  13. Good answer, but at the same time, doesn't that cast a shadow of guilt on anybody going into the consignment house? The official purpose of the place isn't to launder/transfer money.

Player attempting to transfer: "Get out of here you stupid jerk!"
Player who just wants to sell stuff: "What?"
Another player attempting to transfer: "He's trying to intercept my transfer... what jerkwad."
Player who's new and "doesn't know any better": "Wow! Somebody bought my level 12 TO for 3 million! This game rocks!"
Actual player attempting to intercept: "Crap... too many people all at the same level..."

Yes, there are going to be those of us attempting to use it like Western Union or an offshore bank. But to call an interception griefing seems a bit... harsh to me. Almost a "guilty" verdict for what will probably be a normal part of consignment shop life - buying and selling of "junk" items by people who are trying to get better than vendor prices, but aren't trying to transfer funds or intercept them.
  14. QR:
How can you grief on this? You can't see the set price, right? Nor who's selling it? So, unless you know person X is selling item y for Z million influence, how can you deliberately intercept the influence laundering item?
  15. I'm fine with a closed beta. The trick is with the open test server is while some people actually test the issue, a lot of people (including myself) futz around on there, offering no real feedback. Go on, test a respec, dabble with any new/fun features (like Safeguard missions, radio missions, etc., for i8), stuff like that.

I'd wager the people who get in on the i9 closed beta probably have a history of good, detailed feedback, have been in previous betas, are familiar with how COx works at a deeper level than normal, probably technically savvy with PC's, etc. I know, given those criteria, I won't get into it, but that's fine. Let *them* put up with all the major problems and flaws, both technical and gamewise. They'll do a better job than I would, and it'll make the open testing that much easier for the rest of us....
  16. Just quickly - I like the old "straight" hair better than the new one. If it got changed back, I'd be a happy panda. I like the fact it was lower/farther out - the new, fore-head revealing styling doesn't do it for me. It sorta looks a little too close to the head/scalp/face for my tastes...
  17. lol - why PVP in WOW? Just go around yelling "Hey! Come fly with me! Oh, wait, you can't... still trying to get that epic mount..."

I swear, considering how long those flights between cities are, could you imagine any WOW player *not* wanting a travel power?

As for PVP - yeah, controller holds and domination holds would screw a lot of them up - we're made for handling large groups of enemies...

... This isn't important enough to me (again, I see this like recycling cans or getting bottle deposits) or to the SG.

Recycle jokes! One might become a catch-phrase!

Recycle TV shows! They could become movies!

  19. Meh. I'll take our ES out for the time being, then.

I would like to point out that we were fine before the ES's, we were fine with it and its smallish buff, and we'll be fine without it. I'd like to hold off on it to see what changes were made in the next week or three, and will ask the SG to evalutate the worth of the ES to the SG if/when some changes are made. At this time I have no suggestions for the Devs, as quite frankly, this isn't important enough to me (again, I see this like recycling cans or getting bottle deposits) or to the SG. It would be nice to have, especially since Defenders are in short supply in our group, and our schedules are a bit wierd (we don't get to team as often as we'd like), but it's very much not a make or break thing for us, nor was it ever considered a "must have" item like storage (gah - a SG bank would be nice, or the ability to email/wire money...oh well). So at this time the ES is a nice thing to have, but doesn't seem compelling enough to keep.

Great idea though, hope that everything gets ironed out in a way that's pleasing to both the players and the devs. I still like COH leaps and bounds over WoW

With respect, have you seen the recipes? Do you know just how much Salvage needs to be burned to make a buff worthwhile?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't know what else we're going to do with all that salvage we've been collecting. We're not into PvP, and we've more or less have gotten all the functional stuff we want (so in all honesty, the workbench might be going soon). We've got maybe 3 regular members, and 2-3 who jump on once in a while. So that's 6 players and their characters. While I can think of some toys I wouldn't mind, truth be told we're doing fine as-is, and thus far nobody has been asking for more.

Low level toons run SG mode all the time, getting salvage and prestige. We don't require anyone to run SG mode after level 25. That being said some of us still do, and that's when we pitch in influence towards enhancements and such.

We pay our rent, we decorate, and until we as a group decide to "take it to the next level," the salvage we earn is pretty much junk. To you guys the buff isn't worthwhile (too low, doesn't last long enough, too expensive when stacked), and that's fine. For us it's a buff we didn't have before, and if we're smart about when/how we use it...

Kinda like recycling soda cans, I suppose.
  21. I'm part of a small SG (hell, I'm the one in charge of base building), and we generally don't use salvage for anything (teleporter, that's it thus far). So getting salvage isn't too much of an issue. On top of that (and I could be wrong on this), the empowerment station is meant more for special occassions (AV fights and such) rather than "Oh, got a 'Kill 10 CoT'" type missions.

It doesn't seem *too* unreasonable for me. We're not saving salvage for base raid items and such, after all. I would like a little longer than 15 minutes for the buff (is that how long? that's hat I've been told), simply because you have to *get* to the AV first...
  22. Just started an Archery/Fire blaster - thanks for the guide ^_^
  23. Oh, silly me - you should set up an office while you're at it...

  24. Y'know, you really *ought* to stop by Maui, HI, with the upcoming Asia launch and all.

I'd go to that as myself. Maybe during my lunch break.

Hell, just come over and have lunch with me. That'd be cool too.

Think Jack would sign off on that? If not, you can bring him too, just so he's sure it's a business trip. After all, Hawaii is full of us Asians (full, mixed, all cute), and would give him important insight on how to market the game to the Asia region.

I work at a paper, so maybe we can work out a feature. Make it a PR trip too. See! It would be a great use of company money.

And since we know that California has no sunshine, you could come over here to treat your vitamin D deficiency. Lots of fruits and such, vitamin A and C, etc. Surfing and swimming will help you destress and keep fit, maybe lose some weight. Take a proactive stance towards your health people!
