This is what I would like, I want the wedding pack split into a for her, and a for him.. for her 4.99, for him 4.99, or both together for 9.99
I NEVER make boy characters so it would be a total waste of money to buy those, and my hubby never makes girls so it would be a waste of money to get it for him.
However, we like the set.. Could this be possible?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a cute idea, and would be perfect for gifting, too
Add in a custom message from the giver and it'd be just about perfect! -

My problem aside from the cost is that you can only buy it with a credit card. I use timecards, I won't be able to get this, or any other online option like this in the future if I continue with timecards.
(And I hope this isn't a harbinger to come for timecards eventually being discontinued.)
If I really wanted this, and I'm balking at the price, I would have to ask one of my friends to purchase a code for me with their cc and I just pay them.
Secondly, since part of the pack includes stockings, think that we'll see stocking options other than 'Fishnet' in I12 or other future update?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can buy one-shot credit card (technically just pre-paid debit cards) at places like Wall-mart, so there is still choices.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is a problem though (iirc Exteel has a similar issue) - maybe at some point the NCSoft time cards can be a little more fluid in their usage (ie, usable for gametime and microtransactions). We don't have the plethora of payment options Korea has yet (pre-pay, credit card, cell-phone billing, etc), and I think this is an area NCSoft can really innovate in the American market. -
I would like to point out that if this costume pack (and others) are financially successful, everyone will enjoy the benefits of NCSoft having the extra money to do things in City of Heroes, regardless if you were for it or against it.
-
Thanks for the reply, Lighthouse, I appreciate it
(puts on flame retardant suit, just in case)
And I'd like to join in with the support for NCSoft on this. I am one of those players who's said "I'd pay for extra stuff." And I did. I've bought the regular City of Heroes, City of Villains CE (Clix-things, beta access, all the other goodies), City of Heroes: Good Vs Evil edition (the convenience of the DVD installer, the goodies, and the free month), and now I bought this. I've transferred characters at $10 a pop. I've downloaded, play and enjoy Exteel and have bought a small bit of stuff (about $6 worth of things, some of which expire). Right now I'm seriously looking at the bonus mission pack for Guild Wars. I've enjoyed everything I've gotten from NCSoft to date, and am very happy.
Obviously, your mileage will vary.
I hope that NCSoft will continue to find viable revenue streams aside from monthly subscriptions and box purchases (in the case of Guild Wars). I want NCSoft to be around for a long time to come, and have enough resources to be more experimental, a bit more adventurous. They need money for that. I want them to be financially independent and secure, so they won't ever have to start shopping for buyers because they're in dire straits. As a result, I will not only *not* begrudge them for doing this, but I encourage it. As a fan of game companies that have folded or been bought out by large publishers only to be gutted and their franchises left to languish, I'm quite happy to see NCSoft doing things to make sure they'll have money incoming.
Yes, its $10, and I'm still undecided how I feel about the price myself. But to be honest, playing City of Heroes, Guild Wars, etc., is cheap entertainment (how much are movies? sheesh!), and my buying of console games has pretty much gone down to nothing since I started playing two years ago. I'm not even really interested in getting a new console now - I'm quite content enjoying my current games. So, yes, its $10, but I've still come out far ahead in that regard, and since I am both a RP'er and an Icon junkie (), its $10 (less than eating at McDonalds twice around here on Maui) that's going to add to my enjoyment of the game.
So, thank you very much to everyone who worked on this; I like the pack very much. I look forward to i12 and seeing what other great stuff is coming up, as well as i13 and beyond. -
Well, since I did this with my Exteel purchases, I figured I'd post my experience buying this stuff too.
Clicked on the link provided by the email newsletter, which brought me to the NCSoft store. Clicked "buy now," was taken to my account management for login. Payment was quick and easy, the security bits made me happy and rather comfortable making the purchase (very important). Very quick, very easy. Headed into the game, into Icon, and there they were. My only complain is I wasn't (and am still not) sure exactly where everything is, so maybe in the receipt listing include where the various parts are? Sorry - not much for hunting. That aside I'm very pleased.
By the way, I do hope in i12 there will be at least one or three public wedding chapels. Maybe make an instanced one available for rent (influence, not real money) or as a "reward" for some cute little set of missions. -
I would like to suggest a "Newlywed" or "Just Married" badge. Maybe even "Lovebirds," or "Renewed Vows" for folks who are already married but are celebrating their anniversary and such.
Very nice. -
Oooh - can the Vault be made to provide LiveJournal/MySpace/etc., friendly summary type things like any of those *countless* personality test thingies do? You know, "Copy and past this for MySpace," "Copy and paste this for HTML," etc? That would rock socks (whatever that means).
-
(qr) This all sounds completely wonderful! Sounds like a wonderful set of additions and changes all around
The improvements since I started playing over 2 years ago have been fantastic. Heck, the changes from even a year ago! City of Heroes has improved considerably in pretty much every area I care about!
edit: I'd just like to say please keep the current, non-crunchy interface the standard one, with the crunchy-one being the advanced setting (sort of like our graphics options). -
Great read. Well done, and helps sum up a lot of the reasons I love City of Heroes.
And I'll heap more praise on the Sidekick/Exemplar system. Its perfect for casual players (like me), is excellent for the community, and is unique.
On top of that, I love the fact that the devs managed to add in both crafting and economic systems that are fun, don't require high amounts grinding to work up a skill, and are completely optional. Same with PVP. Same with a lot of things, really. Pretty much everything outside the core game adds to the game as opposed to being "required." The depth is there for whoever wants it, when they want it.
There are a lot of things in COH that tells me that by design the game is more considerate of my time than other games I've played. That's a good thing -
(qr) egad this thread is huge. If it hasn't been mentioned, could there be a blog-friendly thingie for us show off our COH/COV-ness on our favorite blog, similar to those things Xbox Live users have? Just a thought for those of us who blog on Gamespot, MySpace, etc.

Sweet! I've been waiting for an easy way to post my characters
Hope it includes the bio too, for those of us who like to RP -
Real quick like:
PC to 360 would be easier than PC to PS3. Both consoles have USB ports, though, so adding keyboard and mouse is trivial. Microsoft said they'll allow MMO's to require the harddrive. And even though MS is publishing MUO, they're not going to stop competing MMO's on. If Blizzard, for example, wanted to bring WOW to the 360? MS would welcome them with open arms. Same with COH, I think - good, reliable source of revenue, probably people buying 360's just for it then getting other games for it "since they've got one already," etc. It would be a win/win, really. -
Oh - and I hate to propose it - isn't porting from Windows to the 360 supposed to be ridiculously easy (relatively speaking)? I know a lot of people with computers that barely run COH, yet they muddle through anyhow. For less than the price of a decent full computer...
*whistles* -
To everyone who's worried about NCSoft mismanaging COH and turning it into Lineage, can I point to Guild Wars? Insane revenue model (for the time) and very non-traditional in terms of gameplay.
I'm nervous, don't get me wrong, but still excited. -
Update: 3rd character transferred. I'm assuming someone, somewhere, just got a Snickers because of me
-
I've transferred two characters thus far and have been very happy with the service. I'll be transferring a third one as soon as I can decide on a new name I'm happy with for the character.
See? I told you I had my credit card standing by for this
Oh, after thinking about it, is there any chance that you'll give insights on server migration? I'm curious to see which server populations have gotten larger, smaller, or stayed the same. -
I happily reported my first RMT'er the other day. After the details of the offer, I was sure to include:

Okay - not the nicest way to put it. I would love, however, to see articles thrown up on how and WHY buying inf is such a stupendous waste of time and money - clearly these guys don't understand how generous the community is here, nor how easy it is to get money. Hell, the sg I'm in has been giving away costume parts as gifts to friends since i9 hit, myself included, as well as invention salvage, recipes and influence. Since I've started COH over two years ago I've given and received millions of influence as gifts and thank you's.
A good article on the risks of RMT, including fraud, in-game and real-world identity theft, etc., might be in order, and should be co-authored by several MMO companies and developers. Help educate the player who might not see it as a big deal, yeah? Make it more real than "you will get banned" and show them "OMG what are all these charges on my credit card?" -
I can't say I'm in favor of the tiered plan, necessarily. After all, i10 brought back people (in my circles) who haven't played in close to 2 years, and returning to old, mid to high level characters is a plus for them, complete with their old names.
-
Now open to the public thanks to Youtube.
This is a very small, modest base, I have to say, but it was relatively cheap to make and functional. Since the Liberty Alliance is a role-playing friendly SG, I decided to make it suitable for such. Functionally, we have:
* Medi-porter for when things go wrong.
* Inspiration storage
* Salvage storage
* Invention Salvage Vault
* Invention station
* Work table
* Enhancement storage
I tried to make something that looks both new and old, since the LA is a group that has a long history (the guy who started it came up with a back-story for us to play off of if we wanted). Story-wise, the original base is gone, wiped out, but an old safehouse remained. When the LA reformed, the safehouse (the brick looking area) got expanded and upgraded (the tech looking areas).
Anyhow, thought I'd share this with folks. I've always liked stuff like this; being able to make things or customizing things so its "yours." I used FRAPS, which captures video from the game, then used Windows Movie Maker (that free thing nobody uses) to do the video up. The music is also something I made myself a long while back using Acid Pro (bought that for $50!) and their Latin loops set (hear that silence? That's Moby not shaking in his vegan-boots). -

As one of the (hopefully) many players living in Hawaii that has to work for a living, I would *really* appreciate it if you:
1) Take lots of cool pics to share later.
2) One hold an event that we can actually make it to without having to call in "sick" in order to attend. We'd love you bunches, honest. Just keep in mind we don't do the whole DST/self-imposed jetlag thing.
And I'll give the first dev to PM me with confirmation that this will happen a nice, large box of Hawaiian coffee and candies when it actually does happen

Player Auction houses are a great example of PvP content that is typically embraced by PvE players.
[/ QUOTE ]
o_o I think something in my head just broke upon reading that line.
[/ QUOTE ]
Non-combat PVP.
In WoW I made all of my money by manipulating the auction houses. This led some people to try and undercut, bypass, or otherwise make money in the niche that I had effectively cornered and made profitable. So to maintain my stranglehold I had to adapt to their tactics and in some cases adopt their tactics or their allegiance.
That's PvP. Just not in the sense of the word that some people are used to seeing it.

Kind of like playing Monopoly, then? -

$10 says the player enjoys Achievement more than Exploring.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wouldn't that depend on how you define "achievement"?
[/ QUOTE ]
As I understand the Bartle Test, someone Achievement driven would explore to say that they did it, whereas someone Exploration driven would explore because thats reward enough in and of itself. It might be the same destination, but the reasons how and why will be different. Sort of like the difference between some who writes because they're paid (or for fame, prestige, etc) to versus someone who writes for the love of writing.
Of course, with that example, I very much doubt an Exploration motivated player would've leveled that quickly. Someone who's motivated by achieving things though? Oh, no doubt. -
$10 says the player enjoys Achievement more than Exploring.
-
It would be *really* interesting if every player in COH/COV had to take the Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology (google or wikipedia) and post the results. It would probably help everyone understand where the others are coming from (not to mention be a very, very useful tool for the developers).
-
The lack of RP friendly aids is one of the things that really keeps me from playing Guild Wars more often (and no, I don't play GW for the PVP). In reference to Laylyn said, the in-game communities (in my opinion) are what keep a game going. There's only one MMO I know of that shut down recently (Ryzom) - as long as you're pulling in a profit (even a small one), a game can continue almost indefinitely (notice how many games SOE has going?).

No matter what the NCsoft numbers say in rise or decline, the bottom line is always: is a product profitable? I can't speak for any other NCsoft game, but CoH is quite comfortably in the black.
[/ QUOTE ]</a>
I won't comment on PVP's necessity (or lack thereof) for its long-term survival, although I do recognize that it an important part of action based MMO's (is there fighting in Second Life? lol). What I do see as a step in the right direct is they're building on their strengths and expanding out logically with something that will potentially appeal to PVE, PVP and RP players (ie, invention system and a new economy) and address a criticism of the game (ie, shallow pool of player activities), yet (in theory) keeping it optional to players who aren't interested. I'm really hoping we'll see more of this as time goes on; perhaps building on the customization/creation ideas and rescuing the concept of player created content from Ryzom (with appropriate safeguards against abuse and horrifically inappropriate content).
