To be honest the first mastermind on the good side I thought of is a bit goofy, but hey, ... Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas. -
Poison is tops at single, hard target debuffing. You don't get the green numbers, you don't even get the fuzzy patch on the floor, but you do get DEAD bosses/Heroes/AVs fast. The envenom/weaken combo is second to none.
I recall on my Bots/poison when I told the team you take everybody else, the bots and I are taking Aurora Borealis -- and we did. -

I agree the Pet I/O sets are kind of 'meh', but I have not slotted Hami-Ohs, aka enzymes either.
I like my Protector bots to have ~60% acc enhancement and 95% damage enhancement. Six slotted and using sets that can leave you wiggle room for stun enhancements, endurance enhancements, or heal enhancements, which I don't recommend the heal enhancement since it reduces how often the protobots heal. Protector bots have a lot of gadgets, but they really kick out damage, too. -
I know the proto bots especially need some endu loving after the level 32 upgrade. They blast, bubble, grenade, and drone themselves right out of energy.

There is no heal, but Cold Domination has a hit point buff. It also has some debuff like you get in radiation. You get sleet which is the same as freezing rain, and heat loss which works like fulcrum shift except transfers endurance. The ice shields are nice, albeit there are those that don't like what the appearance is like.

No, you can no longer increase the recharge rate of pets through any enhancement slotting. Sorry. This is a feature that was 'fixed' recently in that latest issue.

Quite true, the dual builds characteristic is very favorable to the villain epic ATs.

Dark Servant has immobilize, and you can take the patron immobilize. More importantly, you can have 3 sources of hold which recharge quickly: petrifying gaze, patron hold, and Dark Servant's hold.

Maybe I am just deluding myself, but it was my experience that Mr. Twisty will tend to 'stick' to a target that it cannot knock back. Watching Mr. Twisty bounce a helpless Freak tank boss or Paragon Protector like a beachball over a fan never gets old.

I have run a Zombies/Storm - Bots/Storm right on up to 50. The debuffs are sick and wrong! Nothing could stand in our way. Even Lord Recluse seemed like a total pansy.

I six slotted dark servant with the dampened spirits set. I think dark watchers would work as well.

According to Red Tomax City of Data, the -resistance does not stack from the same caster. That said, being able to place a tar patch nearly adjacent to the first or on a separate group does have its attraction.

This strategy was more in fashion when you could put enhancements which USED to but not anymore increase the recharge of the Assault Bot. I don't think its worth the extra effort to avoid the flamethrower now that the recharge is unenhanceable.
The other thing people leave out is that one of the plasma blasts is in equip. This attack has some -regen and is useful on bosses/AVs/heroes. -
The Kin/dark build used to be more popular hero-side, but I agree it's not fashionable. I am bringing this up to point out it was considered effective at one time hero-side.

I have done this with a SG mate. We really were very effective. Stacking increase densities on each other for tough targets helped, too. No stuns, sleeps were a heartbeat, no immobilizes or holds. It was relentless attack, no lack of heals, tons of endurance, and double the drainage. We could nuke if they would just last long enough to build up the buffs. We both had ball lightning and short circuit. Fulcrum ME!
