When my mastermind 'slams' into a group, aggroes the boss first, and the Demon Prince promptly pops the boss into a block of ice, I get all fuzzy inside.
-
Dark/psi used to be very popular in the early issues. The controller aspects and the big AoE attacks are popular.
-
The tankerminds will call me a heretic. When I got to level 6 with the equipping of the little bots, I noticed they have significantly better range in their ranged attacks than the aggro range of most mobs. What I did a lot on my lowbie Bot MMs was to dogpile a close target (NOTE: I don't do this with a boss like a Damned or Consigliere in the spawn) with an attack my target command. I have veteran staff attacks added to two robot ranged attacks means one guy down before the spawn knows what's up. If they weren't dead, the kb from the bots usually got them off their feet long enough to finish the job. You can substitute a purchased temp power of plasmatic taser for the vet staff attack for the same result. After that, you just roll through the spawn, knocking them on their butt.
-
Well, squishies and rangers might prefer ranged and AoE defense, but S/L does cover a lot.
-
This is the only thread I could find on the topic. I know our devs try hard to please the customers/clients, just a little more communication about current issues would be most appreciated.
-
First I don't know how to compare your play of /pain compared to /thermal between the two sets, but the -res proc is a BIG difference since it affects the damage done by all the pets.
-
I have a Storm/DP. He works really well I think. The occasional KB from the pistols doesn't bother my stormy one bit. Swap ammo is a great feature to customize your effects according to your targets: CoT don't like cold, most don't like chem rounds.

Cold is different but I couldn't bring myself to say better when there is that huge Mez hole that cold doesn't cover like sonic and forcefield dispersion bubbles do.
-
I enjoy my Kin/DP a lot.
-
My favorite defender set: Storm
My favorite villain/MM set: Bots
My favorite character: Bots/storm -
I really like my Sonic/sonic, and I really like my FF/* which I have on most of the servers I play. I like the forcefields defenders because they bring a lot to the table in the form of the one thing they do better than others, soft cap defense.
I was on a team that recruited my FF/sonic because they were getting roughed up a bit by Malta missions. With the bubbles, the missions became steamroll missions. I am not saying it was my skill, any other FF defender or controller would improve the team as much. We had some nemesis missions after the malta, and they were as easy, too.
One thing I noticed in your list of defenders that was missing is cold. A Cold/* defender has the benefits of FF type defense shields, some storm, and some good single target debuffs, too. You might be interested in that. -
The information that has been passed around, sorry I don't have the citations: is that damage resistance is a schedule B enhancement and because of the interrelation between damage and damage resistance, the display is showing a schedule B 2 effect on Damage. With 3 SOs of damage you should effectively have >90% even though the display is an error.
The real trick is getting >90% of damage on the tier two demons since they like to suck down the endurance like crazy in their auras after level 32. Effectively I have 2 Acc, 3 Dmg, and 1 End Reduction in them. Ember demon is worthy of every enhancement. -
I would lean to the arsonist. The added tohit and damage to his AoE attacks would mean more incremental damage than putting it on the bruiser as a priority to the arsonist.
-
On a team: ice shields, sleet, benumb, freeze ray, ice storm, and blizzard will roxxor most boxxors.
On solo cold/ice: pick an alternate build at level 10, you can skip the shields and buy more attack powers to go with sleet, benumb, freeze ray, ice storm, and blizzard. A little slower but also very effective.
Nuking is so much more advantageous when you have a blue pez heat loss chaser. Because of the Dot, you get to top off your blue bar before the effect breaks all your toys. -
I think for me the best, most flexible mastermind I have leveled, to 50 even, is my Bots/storm, but I just love chaos.
-
It's tough on 8 man teams for the lone defender to keep the whole team upright, especially those early sewer runs. I wouldn't call traps a late bloomer, but it isn't sparkling right out of the gate. When you have acid mortar and forcefield generator both going for you, it should pick up immensely.
-
You can earn 3 respecs by doing the trials. You can earn respecs based on veteran badges for length of CoH playtime. You can purchase respecs from the auction houses. You can also receive a free respec with just about every issue that comes out; however, these freespecs don't stack up -- use them or lose them. On rare occasions, respec recipes drop during regular missions.
-
I think I saw something about this in the defender forums. The ancillary for the blaster uses an old animation that they eventually fixed for defenders, controllers, et al, if I recall correctly. If it's the same as the current defender version, they are going to have to deal with it until you can recolor your epic powers.
-
Quote:You can try a respec trial more than once, even if you succeed.
I probably can, although I'm not totally sure I can successfully get a group together for that and such. But that gives me exactly one chance to try, so I'm wary of using it up.

TT?
Anyway, I'm usually keeping tar patch up (I have it slotted for recharge reduction so it is ready before it expires), and I still sometimes miss with TG, fairly often on tougher targets. Heals-which-miss are an innovative concept. -
I was slotting up vengeance on my Forcefield/Sonic, and I was startled to see recharge was NOT an available enhancement. Is it possible, such as on Night Widow's mind link, to slot Def/Rech set enhancements and benefit the recharge rate of vengeance or is recharge rate totally unenhanceable like mastermind pets?
-
I took a quick look at the build and the slotting. One thing that popped out at me was even though you have a full set of Soulbound Allegiance in your demon prince, you don't have enough endurance slotted in him. His cold/slow aura sucks down the end almost as fast as the tier 2 demons.
-
Remember you can have an alternate build at level 10. A solo build and a team build would make a lot of sense on a dark defender.
-
If you like hover early I would keep it, it does help with being out of melee and it doesn't affect twilight grasp much that way either. I try to get by with the safeguard temp travel powers until the twenties to get a real travel power.
I made a dark/ice recently. The strategy I followed with that for the dark powers, because there really are so many you do want at once, is take the clicks before stamina and the toggles after. That's my own personal preference. Once you get alternating howling twilight and fearsome stare, the first strikes from the bad guys are hugely reduced in damage and effectiveness. -
In short, yes, there are times you would want an exemp/PuG build that you wouldn't ordinarily take on your regular leveling build. Fortunately, due to a recent perk introduced by the devs, you can create an alternate build starting at level 10! Usually on my alternate builds, I don't sink all kinds of money in crazy expensive enhancements, just generic IOs and single origin enhancements. You can change which build you are using every 15 minutes or about the time it takes to do a mission.

Quote:Gale: I agree you could skip or delay to a 'fill' spot like level 30.Depending your play style, the following a "skippable"
Storm Summoning: Gale, O2, Snow Storm, Hurricane, Thunder Clap, and Tornado.
Elec Blast: Short Circuit, Aim, Zapp, Tesla Cage, and Thunderous Blast.
Personal choices of skippable: Snow Storm, Thunder Clap, and Zapp.
Why? I dislike anchoring enemies for Snow Storm, and I dislike PBAoE disorient, but since you'll already be there for Short Circuit, you may consider it more useful. I dislike snipes.
O2: This buff that also heals protects teammates from sleep, stun, and endurance drain.
Snow Storm: What other -fly power do you have? It also is an AoE interrupt for embalmeds, sky raider engineers, rikti communication officers, and CoT suicide bombers
Hurricane: When you want a -tohit power of 37.5% per Mids, where else would you find one?
Thunderclap I agree is optional since you have competing interests in using it and hurricane.
Tornado: This power is totally underrated. You can use it when the fit hits the shan. It does pretty well in tunnels, debuffing and stunning foes in a corridor of doom. Tornado attaches itself to bosses that resist kb and literally acts like a buzzsaw chewing away with damage ticking away like mad. You can position tornado with hurricane and 'float' freakshow tanks or paragon protectors on top of it, again buzzing away with damage. Would you skip a power that could potentially do 400 pts of damage to a single foe?
I would suggest if you skip a storm power from your build you skip just _one_
