  1. It's been a little time. I did this particular mm's first level 50 TF, an ITF, on my Demon Summoning/Thermal. We had no tank nor brute nor empath . Two scrappers were excellent. We had a Robot/FF MM, a kinetic controller, another controller, a dominator, a bane spider. We absolutely rocked that ITF, chomping through the content to our objectives. We finished in one hour and ten minutes, and I got 8 shards on my mastermind. Everyone was thoroughly pleased.

The interaction between the melee transfusions and my two sources or warmth heals (the MM and the ember demon) kept us all nice and in the green. I am very happy with this mastermind's thermal secondary. The demon prince is a true BEAST!

I haven't done a Lady Grey with this mastermind yet, but I am sure he will thrive with his pets of multifaceted attacks.
  2. The level 40 powers are a delicious thing now:

    Chill gives you:
    single target blast
targetted AoE sleep (I really love it on my demons)
a self-heal that includes some toxic resistance
a defense based armor to smashing, lethal, plus some cold resistance (I think malta and crey use some of that)
hibernate - self hold, invulnerability so you can recover and regen

    Fire gives you:
Targetted AoE kb patch (might not mesh too well with melee zombies, but could help with adds)
    single target blast
Targetted AoE fire attack (a real crowd pleaser)
    a single target hold
    and a self-rez

    Soul mastery gives you:
    cone ranged damage
resistance shield protects from smashing, lethal, negative and toxic
a PbAoE stun that drains a small amount of health
    Targetted AoE immobilize
single target hold (with one of the coolest animations)

    mu mastery gives you:
    cone ranged damage
    resistance shield (smash, lethal, energy)
targetted AoE immobilize with kb resistance
    melee AoE attack (PbAoE?)
    single target hold

I like chill mastery, took it for concept and because I wanted to see what its like :P. The sleep isn't like an immobilize, but it does take a bite out of your foes' alpha strikes so you can set up.

I haven't taken fire, for a good reason; there is no shield. If you have robots or traps or some high defensive setup, the extra damage would fit in.

I rate both soul and mu highly, you get a damage power, you get a shield, you get immobilize and you get a hold. The question is: how much is knockback a problem? If stuff is getting knocked around out of your dark debuffs, I suggest mu. Oppressive gloom from soul mastery is another layer of debuff in the stun that stacks with other stuns like Howling Twilight.

My vote would be to stick to concept and go soul mastery, but chill and mu would both allow for continued success.

what im getting at is: do i keep shadow fall? is leadership worth it? do i get veng if im gonna be teaming alot? do i need both my upgrades? ancillary or patron!? WHICH ALPHA!?!?! oh god so many questions T.T
Keep shadow fall. It has psionic attack resistance which is hard to find on non tank/brute characters.

Leadership is worth it if not for anything other than the +perception you need against foes that blind you and your pets.

Always take both upgrades. Without both upgrades its like your pets are fighting with just one hand.

Either ancillary or patron is fine. My masterminds usually go for an AoE immobilize, a hold, and a defense/resistance shield.

I hadn't heard of a musculature bug. I will look into that more. I think a lot of masterminds can benefit from it.

Keep asking questions. Most likely someone has had experience in that aspect.
  4. My EC/elec is 95% of the way to permadom. I can re-fire it five or six times, but on the bad cycle of hasten it still crashes. It's a totally different mindset. I went with chill mastery for sleet and frozen armor; it's a stretch concept-wise but synaptic overload, sleet, and static field are really alpha busters, when paralyzing blast is on recharge

I have a couple more powers to slot up the 47 and 49 selections for more -recharge, and I there.
  5. While you are asking that the Sewer Trial be end game content now, wasn't it included in Issue 1 and therefore endgame material for the top level 40s at the time? I too, think they could update this to be an end-game level 50+ experience.

Edit: Level 50 for vanguard merits/shard drops.

Okay, I admit it. I flaked, forgot about the traps/ffg component to the soft capping. Yes, soft cap for your mastermind is rather easy. Hence, a patron shield of resistance would be yummy gravy.

For your future alpha slot, my suggestion would be spiritual/radial for more recharge for the mastermind, and more stun for the bots. They can stack quite a bit.
  7. I was in a duo. We are a level-paired set of demon summoners. My mastermind uses poison. My partner uses dark miasma. The mission was a tip mission. We had the difficulty at +2. He runs up the stairs in the classic warehouse dock map where the bosses usually hide. I flew straight up with hover to the top of the stairs.

My partner chews on a group in the corner while I unwillingly grabbed the aggro of the TWO bosses, one was a carnie master illusionist and the other some named dufus. I got the noxious gas on the demon prince, but within seconds all pets were down except the demon prince with noxious gas and hell on earth. My mastermind had basically thrown everything and was terribly low on endurance, but I kept tossing alkaloid on the demon prince while he solo'd the two bosses.

While I know there is a lot of juice in noxious gas, from that experience I know in the hairy fights you want hell on earth on the pet that does the damage and the pet that will last the longest. There is a buff from hell on earth for damage, but the extra to-hit isn't shabby. The tiny hellfires do help take some aggro off the pet you cast it on, too. On my thermal demon summoner, if I have my Demon Prince buffed with Forge, I have no trouble casting Hell on Earth on my Hellfire Gargoyle.

I don't know the exact numbers either, but when the Demon Prince gets out his Greater Ice Sword attack, LOOK OUT! It's demon butt kicking time!
  8. Aw, we forumites do love our new players. I am posting just to re-emphasize. If you have an attack that takes like less than 15 seconds to recharge, it doesn't need recharge in it. Longer recharge powers like fulcrum shift, maybe transference, need some recharge. When you get your build into a mature slotting situation, you will have so much recharge from siphon speed and hasten, you won't be able to do everything you would like just because of the time it takes to animate your powers.

Keep superspeed for the stealth component, but yeah, no need for superjump and inertial reduction both. As a note. super jump is suppressed in combat; you can't jump out of a cardboard box in combat while super jump is suppressed. Inertial reduction knows no such limitation.

Kinetics dark is a classic defender build. It has proven successful. Be confident and get out there and defend you nutty Magpie.

For really tough groups, I launch synaptic overload. It doesn't always confuse the bosses without domination, but the minions will be on your side for awhile at least. This draws no aggro. Second, I hit jolting chain. With jolting chain the first guy you hit doesn't have a chance to do his 'snappy comeback' before you can set up the static field. I should also mention, I move into near range, not close range so that the gremlins get on board while I hit jolting chain. Within seconds you have confused, bouncing, and eventually sleeping mobs to deal with. As the previous poster stated, move into the static field for +recovery +regeneration from both conductive aura and static field.

The ball lighting from mu fits your theme and it moves you closer to permadom with the positon slotting. I will reaffirm: synaptic overload is critical for aggro-free alpha shot busting and for slotting to permadom.

Quick observations: a single gravitational anchor isn't worth a lot in a power. I would recommend taking the Black Scorpion patron for the defense based shield.
  11. Sorry, from experience with my FF/psy and what others have posted, caging the healing nictus isn't gonna happen, either by forcefield or sonic defender. However, it has been reported that in the Statesman TF the cage powers work fabulously on the Lord Recluse pylons.
  12. For the survivability, the way he gathers attention, and man when he gets out that friggin ice sword (LOOK OUT THAT DEMON HAS A SWORD!), I vote for the Demon Prince. I definitely make sure he has forge on when he doesn't have the living hellfire. Demon Prince holds bosses, slows spawns and kicks butts.

I tweaked some. I tried to stay faithful to your proposed build. I rearranged some slots. I chose some sets instead of others. Decimations get you to faster recharge. Some purples weren't maxed out so I reslotted for more recharge. Crushing Impacts are cheaper than mako's but they are part of the recharge gig.

There were two powers I replaced. First was Zap. You really really (I mean really) need synaptic overload. It eats aggro like few other powers. You didn't slot up your epic pet so I stuck grant invisibility in there for another Luck of the Gambler recharge bonus. Your blaster, controller, defender teammates will love you giving them grant inviz.

I hope you eventually want to go perma-dom. Start out in the level 30s to acquire IO sets with -recharge bonuses. Basilisk gaze, crushing impact, decimations (or entropic chaos if that is to your taste) are good places to start. Do your hero tip missions for hero alignment merits, and buy buy buy the Luck of the Gambler +7.5% bonus IOs. Other sets include adjusted targeting, obliteration (for thunderstrike), and positron's blast. And finally, you will want hasten.

  16. To the OP. I see your goal of defense. You did address the endurance trouble from the second tier demons. There are some features that frankly just chafe. Not big deals, but they bother me

First, I know you were going for the numina set in warmth. I usually put the miracle, numina's bonus in health.

Second, on my thermal, I put the pet resistance and defense bonuses in Hell on Earth. It's retentive of me saying so, even with tactics and forge, your second tier should most always be good on accuracy. I have a compulsion to push acc and dmg to 90%.

Six slotting corruption makes me itch. Forge seems underslotted. Perhaps if you took a different epic power like chill mastery - Flash freeze, Frozen Armor (which can mule a LotG 7.5%) and ice blast for your thunderstrikes.

I think your demon prince is going to crash his end frequently, too. He has a couple auras that apparently don't benefit from pet damage IO endurance reductions.

I pushed my Demons/Thermal to level 50 just tonight, unlocked my alpha and slotted common Cardiac in it. It was a good day.
  17. When freezing rain is cast it sets up a pseudopet. It does indeed stack. There is no such thing as too much freezing rain.

I have found tornado to be used in more and more situations where my mastermind is soloing. When you want a tornado, you would indeed like to have two.

With hasten and enough recharge in lightning storm, you can have 3 lightning storms up briefly at the same time.

    MM or Crab pets?

Weakened Hammy, this was my experience. Go over the cliff, defeat the pylons. Then, AoE attack from the Hammy himself wipes me and the robots, resummon by the cliff, AoE die, repeat five, six, seven times, so I stayed dead until the mission ended. Yay MMs.

Actually since I slotted muscleature the only time I've died is when I was hit my Pretorian ambushes with their multiple burn patches/slows.

So I have no idea what you are talking about.

Your or your teammates provoke does NOTHING to Apex halberds. That said, I havent even tried Apex or Tin Mage. I am talking about Reichsman, Romulus (twice in the ITF), and Lady Grey, specifically save Penny or the weakend Hammi mission.
  22. I have a necro/thermal. I leveled to fifty primarily duoing a Bots/Storm with my cousin's necro/storm. I can attest that both are successful builds. Hurricane doesn't bother the zombies as much as you might think if used with discretion. Necro/thermal is nice since the thermal shields cover a big gaping resistance weakness of zombies to fire. You can break up your shielding; you can shield 3 every two minutes and rotate your buffing.

Tactics isn't shabby. As said, your lowest tier guys need it at higher levels. The truly critical thing is the +perception; even pets can be blinded.

Backfill from tactics with your preference. I would go damage (assault) for non-defense secondaries, maneuvers for bots, thugs, and defensive secondaries.
