  1. Stingbob Shockpants ?

    Buzzkill, which is probably taken.

    Honeysickles

    Hivemind

I do like Yellow Shift-7 Black, though.

I had a character concept named RED Shift-7 Blacke, but for some reason it got nerfed.

    DPO? What's DPO?

    Demented Porpoise Offers.

"Hey kid, want some dried walrus I painted to look like elvis before he got fat? No? Well, I have some more white paint, I can make him look like elvis after he got fat. No? Well, I have some green paint, I can make him zombie fat elvis. Yeah? Okay, no- um, I don't take cash. Or influence. I only deal in pocket lint from coveralls worn by elephants with diabetes."
  3. Responding to the points as listed:

    * Standardize levels.
I did tighten them up a bit, the only problem with fully standardizing them is the difference in mob availability levels. To keep the story how I wanted it I had to have the little jumps. I did tighten it up a little by reducing the auto-sk level variances to a static -3.

    * Consider using a smaller map or more obvious clue in first mission

    ? There's only 3 bosses. No clue/collection.

    * Writing is good, lots of detail, clues answer questions, jokes are funny.

    Glad you enjoyed them.

    * Shorten interact timers.

They're set for 2 seconds. I've had trouble with toggles interfering with interacts before, were you running a self-stealth toggle at the time?

    * Be careful not to pick what alignment the player is, leave it ambiguous or heroic. Don't force heroes to be bad.

That part of the story is pretty much dead-on how I want it. I wanted heroes to feel as though they were forced to make a terrible decision.

    * Pick whether the antagonist is redeemable or not, currently his crimes far out weigh redemption.

In the original version he just went plum loco, but it didn't read as well. I left it as it is since I wanted there to be hope for redemption... but a very slim hope. I felt that by giving the player the badge as a souvenir it would let them decide, personally, whether they felt redemption was permanently out of his grasp.

Also, in the original version, I had him trick 2 young kids (in a direct rip-off from South Park) into trying to get two of the gangs together to work out their differences. You had to rescue the kids, who fingered the contact, who denied it vehemently and got angry that you would trust two challenged children over an experienced cop. It was more than a little twisted by the end.

    * Be consistent with the mood, it's hard to switch from campy to OMG serious plot twist.

Again, the twist worked how I wanted it to, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. I felt that with the sudden tone change most players would feel the contact's betrayal more keenly... it worked with the majority of players. Most of those that gave feedback enjoyed the twist, though some did not.

    * Fix multiple names in nav for last mission; "defeat 6 guys" would be better.

Just to be clear (not sarcastic in the least) you think I should get rid of the names and just say "Defeat Gangleaders" instead?

And yeah, I wanted them to fight eachother too. I felt it added a little something, story-wise that they aren't working together and are still as fractious as ever.

Thank you for the review, I hope it won't put you off from trying any of my other arcs - I think 'Quest for Life' is definitely one of my favorites, it's not terribly hard in any sense but it is fun. I don't suggest playing it with angelic characters, the last mission may give you fits :P
  4. I'd love to help you organize events some time, it sounds like you're a very generous person. It's always fun to play with people that are there for *fun* and not mini-maxing.

Well, usually fun. I had an awful encounter with some people on Freedom that while they were having fun "helping" me run a respec, their idea of fun caused the respec to fail and I had to go back to work un-respec'd. But that was years ago.

Anyway, I'd suggest making a fun story arc to play through with some people, giving them rewards afterwards. It can really be a fun time.

Actually you can look at the story now since it's published. It's "Quest for Life", I think. It *does* make sense, but people felt weird beating up kids. Gee, I wonder why.

If it was officially banned, then I doubt it.

One of mine wasn't banned, but a few of the testers told me they'd feel obligated to report it for content if I didn't edit it. I wasn't thinking particularly well when I had the 'villain' group be children and the objective was "Defeat All".
  7. Gamestop is selling the GvE edition for $10.

What's weird is that when I applied the Mission Architect box's code to my account for the Cyborg booster I also ended up with the GvE stuff on one of my characters. I /bugged it.

I can use the costumes on that character, and for like half an hour I also had the PD teleporter & jump pack. I still have the badge, too.

Am I close? Can anyone tell me how to get it right?
The Sonic sounds are in the 'powers' subfolder. Or should be, I mean.

You can, however, make the game scream "GIRAFFES" at them whenever they take a step. I've done it. Granted, the guy was pestering me to make the folders and everything for him, and the sounds, and all that, then he downloaded it from me and installed it... but... yeah.

I use custom sounds for a lot of things in the game, from new sonic blast sounds (frickin' sweet) to new assault rifle sounds, to even cartoony sound effects that make me smile now and then. For instance, I barely ever play with people that have the energy blast set. I actually have a couple characters with the set myself, but rarely ever play them. Just seems like an under-played set nowadays. Anyway, I recorded myself saying "Wapow!" and other goofy sound effects and put them in place of the those sounds. It is fun, but would get VERY annoying over time.

To my knowledge, no - they will not transfer characters from one account to a second one. I believe this is largely due to the chance of RMT traffic in that area.

Also it's against the rules to have two people playing a single account. It's in the Terms of Service, or that other thing. Can never remember what it's called.

I had the same issue, apparently there was 'regularly scheduled maintenance' that wasn't posted (that I saw, anyway, I couldn't check the forums due to database errors).
  12. Things that annoy the heck out of me:

When every mob type (minion, lieut, boss, EB) is an MM of some type and they ALL summon mobs. It's not hard due to mob difficulty, it's hard due to extreme lag on an 8-person team. Fighting off 12 Gang Wars at once is near-impossible with all the other mobs there making it lag like a Mothership raid.

/Ninjitsu minions on a huge outdoor map with the 'Defeat All' tag.

Diversity just for the sake of diversity. Is there really any reason for malta, Rikti, Rularuu, Family, Crey, Freakshow, Vanguard, Arachnos, Longbow, and every other level 50 enemy/ally to be fighting against you on the same map? No? I didn't think so. If there is a *good* story reason for it, kudos. Otherwise, lame.

    Most loved:

Challenge. I like having mobs that debuff, but not when I'm on a full team. For example, I made an arc where all the mobs except the bosses have debuffs that will stack - it is designed for 1-2 people to play through, more than that it is pretty much unplayable. It makes the player think outside the box a bit more than usual and has them come up with new tactics to win. And yes, I clearly state in the description of the arc that it is meant to be soloed or at most, duoed.

When did they say it was going to be a boxed expansion? I'm not doubting you, I'd just like to read the release.

    Edit: NM, found it

That's what? 2 hours of work with the current minimum wage? Let's assume you spend 8 hours sleeping and 8 hours working, taking 16 hours out of the day....that leaves 8 hours left times 30 days, so that gives you 240 hours of possible play time to "try" City of Heroes.

Which means that even if you buy it new for $13, you're getting 18 HOURS of possible enjoyment for each DOLLAR you spend. That's a hell of a lot better entertainment value for your money than going to the movies spending $13 just for tickets for a 2 hour movie.
The thought of someone playing the game - heck, any game - for 8 hours, every day, for a month....

    *shudders*

    1) Yeah, the trial window thing is annoying as heck. It doesn't make someone want to buy the game so much as just stop playing. Bad implementation, imo.

    2) There are more interesting missions as you continue in the game. There are some very good story arcs later on that can really get you into the story.

    3) People have already covered it, but each respec trial's 'respec' reward can only be taken once apiece for each character. After that you will likely rely on 'freespecs' from Issue releases, Respec recipes, and Veteran respecs. Yes, you can buy one from the store for $10... but why?

RWZ has some as well, try around the southern outskirts of the huge crater. I *think* that's where I saw them last.

    Solo AE Mishes

I haven't published it yet, but I'm working on a 'challenge'-type arc for solos and duos. It's part of my continuing (yet oddly unpublished) 'The Games' series. Most of the mobs are debuffers and it promotes different tactics for many players. I'll have to update it soon, I'm waiting for some people to do one of my other arcs before I unpublish it to put this one up.

It's kind of funny because it's challenging for a solo/duo but near impossible for a full team. Why? Well, with so many debuffers & buffers... um... well, have you ever seen a minion hit a stone tanker for 1400+ damage? Yeah..... much more manageable when solo since only 3-4 mobs are there per spawn.
  18. I have had some really crappy experiences in this game, met a lot of rude people, and no small share of them have been from Virtue. Fortunately, for every jerkwad and meaniebutt I've come in contact with on Virtue there has been 2-3 really great folks that I've had the pleasure of meeting. From the guy that reminded that it was 'powexec' and not 'powerexec', to the girl who stuck up for me when I had to take a bit of an afk when my girlfriend's roommate's little girl's diapers filled and I had to take action, to the many, many others that were just good people...

Just wanted to thank all you nice folks for outnumbering the (bad)weirdos and jerks here and being more vocal as well. You rock.

I didn't want to name names, but a few do stand out : Dominatrix Pharaoh, Gawjo, Marcus Chin, Xaltus & the other SG/VG members of Raiders of Ruin, and everyone I've played with where I haven't quit the team in disgust.... thanks. You made my return to the game *fun*.
  19. Defenders, for me. I love the variety within the archetype. You've got some that heal and buff, some that buff and debuff, some that just buff, some that just debuff, some that do a little of everything....

My personal favorite character is a Cold/Sonic Defender. I love that playing that character, it's the most fun I've had in the game.

My 'see what changed' refers to game content and not the forums - but it is a change that I had to have an active account to log in. I used to be able to log in and go through PMs and subscribe to threads and such without an active game account - now you can't.
  23. Yes. You can earn respecs through Veteran Rewards, recipe drops, or else completing the Respec Trials (you may get a total of 3 respecs through the use of the Trials)
  24. You have to have an active account to even log in. I tried to log in to check my previous PMs after the forum switch but could not because my account was inactive. Of course it didn't tell me this, I had to find out by opening a trial account and using it to post & play and see what changed.
