  1. Honestly, never thought of a MM or Defender as required for it. Never had that much trouble with it. I can see where others would, though. I do think it should award more merits, though.

Yes, there is a monthly fee associated with the game. However, there are ways to get new content and time by purchasing boxed editions of the game (only once per edition, though!)

    Good vs Evil Edition
    Architect Edition
Going Rogue Edition (this is almost a must now since it is linked to end-game content)

    I am probably forgetting others.

tl;dr, are empathy defenders really the best healers? If not, then what AT or powerset is better for the kind of group support I'm looking for?
As was previously stated, heals are the weakest form of support. That doesn't mean they 'suck', but if that's all you want to do with a character then you are not as 'true-blue' in your support as you could be.

I feel that debuffs, while powerful, can have a little bit of a learning curve. For that reason, and only that reason, I'm not going to hop up and down shouting "Rad! Dark! Rad! Dark!"

It sounds like you really want to see those green numbers fly. If that's the case, do go with Empathy as a Defender primary or Controller secondary. Don't just rely on your heals, though! I can't stress that enough. Empathy has heals, and they're nice, but it really shines with the buffs at its disposal. Fortitude is an incredible buff that increases team killing speed (when you get the recharge to where you can keep it on most of the team, anyhow) significantly while protecting them from harm as well. I say this a lot, but dead mobs don't shoot back. You have buffs to keep your allies going from spawn to spawn by keeping their endurance and health bars full. Use these buffs often and you'll be a star.

A decent alternative is Thermal for Controller and Corruptor secondaries. You don't get the defense buff of Fortitude or the group buffs of Regenerative and Recovery Aura, but you do increase your team's survivability with heals and resistance buffs. You also get powerful debuffs later on that can make encounters with strong enemies very trivial.
  4. One thing to note about Praetoria: It is far more difficult than the rest of the game. That's not to say it isn't fun (many people enjoy it, I am not one of them), but it's different.
  5. You also might like to try a Fire/Traps corruptor. Fire/Traps has almost the same durability out-of-the-box as a Traps/* defender but with the blasty goodness of Fire coupled with Scourge. There's a picture somewhere of someone soloing the ITF with their Fire/Traps.

I think the problem for me is that they're not 'challenging', really - except, as I said, my fire tank against Malta - it's just that they're not fun. Tedious tasks get just as boring when they're tips as when they're the same old radio missions over and over. It took me a little over an hour to do 'A Tortured Scream'. Was it hard? No, no it wasn't. Was it challenging? Again, not in the usual sense. Was it so annoying that I will quit tip teams that are going to do it in the future? YES. I could have done a TF or SF instead of that tip in the amount of time it took. Ridiculous.
  7. It's really easy to put the wrong pieces of a set in like that, though. You want to make sure to mouse-over each of them and see which things went in which slots, or just right-click on one of them and see which are grayed-out for that power.

Also, say you're gonna put 4 sets of Positron's Blast in your powers... just select the first slot from one of those sets, then you can middle-click into each other power's slots to add the next ones in the set. Makes setting out sooooo much faster.
  8. Harvey Maylor, or something like that. I think.

Same here. I *love* fighting CoT, they have such varied and interesting enemies. I just hate the places they hang out in, especially blue caves. I've actually deleted characters because I had three active 'blue cave' missions. Granted, that was before auto-complete and the ability to have more missions.
  10. My pleasure. Also, if you are going to use more set pieces or more of the same enhancement you can middle-mouse-button click on an empty slot to 'repeat' the last enhancement or to add the next piece of the last set you used into a power. I'm not describing it well but you'll figure it out quickly. Like if you're going to 3-slot Hasten with Recharge IOs, you'd select a recharge IO for the first slot then middle-click in the other two slots to repeat the IO in those slots.
  11. Right-click in the slots and then select the enhancement you want to put in there. Sometimes it bugs out and closes the enhancement window, I don't know why, but just keep trying and you'll get it.
  12. Just curious. I normally solo my tip missions and end up dismissing a lot of them.

Heroside, I dismiss anything Carny. Just not fun. Same with Malta, except on my fire tank, they're a good challenge for that character. On a team I just roll through anything blueside, though.

Villainside there is only one that I will always skip. "A Tortured Scream". I'm pretty sure it was named for the sounds made by those that actually play it. On a huge CoT temple map you get to find a blinky, find a boss, find 4 more blinkies, then find another boss. Never doing it again on a team or solo.

    Howbowchoo?
  13. Have one person taunt her and kite. Constantly. They should be the only person getting aggro, and nowhere near Ghost Widow. Everyone else, including the other melee, stays on her butt and smashes her until she dies. She won't fire off her heal if her main target isn't in melee range.
  14. I tended to run in the middle, RoA, then set trip mine. Cleared most spawns solo like that.
  15. Your main should be something that you enjoy playing a lot. So, the Widow. Put your time into the character, pour your resources into her build, but most importantly HAVE FUN!
  16. I just give'm names. My female bane spider is named 'Direblossom'. My male fortunata/widow is named.... well crap, I don't remember what his name is. Probably one of my stock character names like 'Adelante' or 'Tavin Jerod' or 'X-Cross', something like that.
  17. It's not too hard to get perma-AM and perma-Hasten with a Rad/Sonic, I kind of miss mine but I left that server behind.

If this is their way of giving us rares and very rares, I would have rather waited until I20.
Then do so. You don't have to do them now. However, that does not mean that other people will not enjoy the content as it stands.
  19. Cold/Sonic is very solo-friendly to me. Yes, I mostly do single-target damage - but I do it pretty much safely.

I used to use Siren's Song to put a mob to sleep, then stun one and kill it, rinse and repeat. Now I just run in, Sleet, and toast each mob in succession. It's only slightly less safe, but much faster.

Traps/* is fairly solo-friendly. I have a Traps/DP at 40 now, going villain for the patron when I hit 41 I think. It's not terribly fast but that's because I didn't slot my attacks as much as I probably should have. It's really fun on teams, especially on respecs where I just wipe entire waves of enemies with trip mines on the doors
  20. I'm the opposite, I was looking forward to the hefty experience bonus on my lower characters. I'd personally prefer it if they alternated a level 50 TF and a lower-level TF, but that's just me.

Nobody says you can't do other level 50 content, there's plenty out there waiting to give you shards.

First off, I like your sig saying you play easy mode but you seem to dislike AE. Might as well dislike all the people conversing in Pocket D and under Atlas because they're not running teams either... but I digress.

As others have stated you can join global channels. You can leave Atlas Park at any time. Or use the 'search' function to find teams. Or even leave Freedom, that is actually the only server I've been on that has frequent requests to join farms in the Atlas Park AE.
  22. I'd rather have the ranged sets, personally.... chance for hold
