  1. Is there a text play-by-play on these or a recap I could read somewhere? The audio wasn't as audible as I'd have hoped - not a knock on you for posting them, it's really awesome of you to have done this OP! - and I would like to know what they're saying in the Q&A.
  2. What is your favorite form of 'support' to play, and what is your favorite form of 'support' to play alongside? I'm serious here, I'm really curious. So please, no smart alecky-answers like "Fire support pewpew". Also, I don't consider 'controls' to be support for the purposes of this thread. In-game, though, you could be my jockstrap any day.

My favorite form of support to play is something that gives long-duration buffs and good debuffs to use in between buff sessions. This is why I love playing my Cold/Sonic and my Traps/DP.

My favorite form of support to play alongside is something that gives me some defense (or the enemies -tohit, that works too) and can maybe heal a little. I like my safety blanket, dangit!
  3. Through a combination of farming in AE (not just for tickets/inf, but to help SG mates level as well) and marketeering I can rake in at least 1b inf/week if I try. I don't try most times, though, since I think 5b or so is enough generally.
  4. Against my better judgement I joined a TF on my Traps/DP defenestrater.

Leader tells the team to follow the tank. The tank, however, is wishy-washy, and does not run into mobs first. Seriously, we'd wait for 30 seconds before attacking every mob, and I got sick of it.

So, I ran ahead. We were doing the LGTF and it was the first mission. I'm clearing the way, mostly, when I notice nobody is around me and they haven't been for some time. In fact, some of them are close to dying.

"What's up?" I say in team chat. "Where are you?" is the team leader's reply. "I'm outside the last room."
"What the [naughty, naughty word]?!" shouts the tank.
"Follow the defender!" says the team leader.

Unfortunately, this upset the tanker and he quit the TF. Not my fault he was so slow. Seriously, I was near the end and they were near the middle or so and they were only cleaning up my leftovers. It was sad. And that's not to say they were all bad players, they just followed directions and waited for the tank.
  5. I don't remember exactly, but I think you can't use 'poop' in AE either.
  6. ...is Pacing of the Turtle: Dam/Slow.

Every time I get that as a drop I laugh.
  7. Well, I went with Zombie/Pain for now. I'll see how I feel about it after I level it up a bit, but with the +res/+dmg buff, aoe regen buff, aoe heals, etc, I hope that it will end up doing okay. I don't want to go with /Dark, I just don't like playing Dark Miasma. I'm not saying it's not a good set, I just know that it doesn't fit my personal playstyle.
  8. The other night someone was complaining to me about how he had to farm for shards on all his characters so he had to get farms for them all, he was really going on about it until I pointed out that he didn't have to have farms for shards, he could just play the game. Seriously. Have you run through all your contacts? Do tip missions. No more tips today? Do radio missions. Bored of radio missions? Do a task force. Bored of task forces? Do a flashback. Bored of flashbacks? Go to rikti war zone and do missions there. Bored of RWZ missions? Go back to tips, change alignments, and do the missions from contacts from the other side.

There is a heck of a lot of stuff you can do at 50, and when we start getting incarnate drops from mobs below 50 there will be a heck of a lot more you can do.

    City of Prudes

I had a similar problem with my Necro mastermind, "Grave Redeemer". People thought it was a 'flasher' costume, when it really wasn't. It's a zombie-like man in a dark trenchcoat with a hat. He sports mystical tattoos as well.

His storyline is that he's not undead, and that's sort of the problem. He wants to be dead, but can not die. In his pursuit of eternal life he ruined many lives and turned many good men to evil as they attempted to get revenge upon him. Now, in an attempt to atone, he summons the spirits of those men to give them a chance to do good and atone for their evils and at the same time atone for his.

...so yeah. He's not going to show you his weenis.

I am pretty sure you're talking about personal mez protection but I didn't get that vibe from the question. Just wanted to say that other sets do have mez protection (though not personal mez protection).

And whoever said Benumb isn't worth it for 'normal PvE' apparently doesn't mind getting 2-shotted by bosses.
  11. If you are wondering if Going Rogue is worth it, let me ask you the following questions:

    1) Do you like playing characters that feel powerful?
    2) Do you enjoy task forces and trials?
    3) Have you ever wanted to play in both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles on the same character?
    4) Have you ever wanted to play a hero archetype in the Rogue Isles or a villain archetype in Paragon City?

If you answered 'yes' to any of those questions then go buy Going Rogue now. Seriously, the new content is great.
  12. I load up the new launcher, click the Beta, and set it to run, I get the little "Loading" bar and then the little 'crash report' window pops up asking me what the hell I was doing to make the program crash.

    Every time.

On my second 'repair' function now, hoping that'll do the trick... I wants to test! And I hope against hope that this isn't the result of something that has to go live with i20 that means I'll never be able to play the game again on this computer.
  13. I like that you can get special drops from PvP even though I think the drop rate is absurdly low.
  14. I'm not crazy about the 'blue thingies' either. Why not? They're freaking invisible to me. There is absolutely zero graphical clues as to when I'm about to faceplant... but there are audio clues. Once I picked up on those it became much, much easier to avoid the blue thingamabobs unless I flew into one by accident. So, while I'm not crazy about them, I'm not angry about them either.
  15. You're right, I only got into one facet of it since my main dislike just goes with 'pet class' types altogether. I hate having to manage extra things like that, it drives me nuts eventually. That's why I didn't like my imps at first, they were always attacking the wrong things or going off on some goofy trek uphill to the west when to follow me all they had to do is freaking follow me when I was going downill to the north.

My friend said the pathing is not as bad now as it used to be and I'm inclined to agree since on my Fire/Rad my imps aren't nearly as .... impaired ... as they used to be.

Nonetheless, managing pets can get on my nerves more than stacking buffs.

I have a Fire/Pain corr on Freedom I was just on to move things from storage and I remembered all the fun I had on that character... /Pain doesn't seem so bad for MMs, either, and people say it goes well with Mercs since the last pet is an endurance hog. I'm still not sure what I'll go with, I want some more opinions from the master(minds)s.
  16. Let me start off by saying I don't like MMs. I am not crazy about playing with them and I haven't really enjoyed playing them much (I've had a Thugs/Pain to 38, Thugs/Poison to 34, Thugs/Dark to 42, Robot/Traps and Robot/FF to 40, and a few others that didn't get to 30).

Part of this is lag - my computer is old. When there's more than one MM on a team I generally start to lag. When I have one MM and they're Demon/anything I end up lagging and getting severely annoyed with the pets' audio.

Now that I've probably tweaked a few nerves - though that wasn't my intent - to lay some of the background on why I'm not crazy about MMs, I do realize they are effective for pretty much any team make-up and can fill several different roles. One of my friends tells me that her MM is the most fun character she's ever played and is going to make it her main. She also says I'm really missing out.

I've never been all that keen on 'pet classes' but I've recently overcome my detest of fire imps on my Fire/Rad 'troller and maybe it's time I give MMs another go.

My playstyle solo is generally to kill from range and try to stay 'safe' but have a difficulty setting that's challenging but not faceplant-city. I love buff/debuff powers but not ones I'm going to have to put on all the pets and the whole team every few minutes. I will probably not explore incarnate material with the MM since it'd be a side project on a different server than my main ones (though I may delete a character on Freedom to make it there if I get sufficiently enthused to do so, if for no other reason than it would be easier to get to 22 there).

The primaries I'm considering are Thugs, Mercs, and Necromancy. I have concepts in mind for both Mercs & Necromancy, depending on the secondary.

For secondaries I'm considering Poison & Pain. I have played Pain corruptors and liked them okay but I am leaning much more heavily towards 'Poison' because I just love debuffs a lot.

What type of mastermind would you recommend to someone that doesn't particularly like masterminds, and why?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I was kinda leaning towards Necro/Poison and Mercs/Poison, but not really sure which. I've heard bad things about Mercs and heard that Necro was very, very weak to lethal damage. My playtime with either has been minimal at best, which is one reason I'm intrigued by them.

So here's a questions for everyone in this thread: What other methods of PvP rewards do you think might be as effective or even more effective?
A PvP Rep->Reward Merit exchange would be nice.

One of the things I used to like about Dark Age of Camelot was that the PvP meant something for the rest of the game world. Now I know that this method would not work for CoX as well as it does for something like DAoC that has exclusive player factions/sides, but in that game if your side captured the other sides' Relics your entire realm would gain small but worthwhile bonuses that would add up over time. However, there were only 6 relics and 3 sides so if one side had a buff, the other side did not. This would not work in CoX since the sides are 'blurred'.
  18. I'm big on PvP in most games, in CoH not so much. I don't know if that is as much due to the 'concept' as the 'implementation' to be honest.

My first heady rush in PvP was in the game Dark Age of Camelot in one of the Battlegrounds. In the BG you fought over a central Keep. There were three sides to the conflict and my side was losing... to start with. Someone decided to lead and organize our efforts and it paid off. There were about 20 Albs, 30-35 Mids, and 14 Hibs(I was a Hib). We split into three groups. The two mobile groups were being used to lure enemy groups into the third stationary "stealther" group. It worked beautifully, the decoys would drag the enemies past us and then stop to fight, the enemies' support characters would stand back to assist and get killed almost immediately by our stealther team. While this was happening our other mobile team ran to our siege engines and ran them for the duration of the battle. Wash, rinse, repeat, we blew a hole in the keep wall and stormed the castle. It was very, very fun.

I've played a lot of different games with a lot of different PvP styles. Another one that I've enjoyed a great deal was Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. We had a group of 5 or 6 people, we used voice chat to coordinate as well as UI add-ons that let us coordinate even better. In WAR the focus is almost entirely upon PvP on a grand scale. What that boils down into is massive zergs of players, barely-coordinated, winning through numbers more than skill.

However, when you have skill, it can really even the odds. Looking at the realm war map my team decided to defend a keep that was under attack. We rushed over and the outer doors were down... not good. We went up the steps inside and the enemy warband (24 players) was already bashing on the keep lord, about to take over the keep! Our leader calls one target after another, we kill them in short order. First go their healers before they know what's happening, then we smash their casters while they're trying to run from us, by now the enemy warband knows they've been flanked and start to come after us... our group consisted of 3 melee healers and 3 tanks, each tank would guard a healer and take half of the damage dealt to them. 6 on 24, we killed all of them (some of them twice or three times) and didn't take a single death in return.
  19. No super-expensive 'mounts', you have your own travel powers... and if you don't want to take a travel power you can purchase some cheaply at level 1.

Your friends, no matter what their level, can join you and be automatically level-shifted to match the story arc or missions that you are playing (with few exceptions).
  20. Objective:

When updating files the dialog only shows the current file you are downloading and its size, it does not show the total size of the whole update. I am unsure if this is a bug or intended, but if intended (subjective) that stinks like butt.

    Subjective:

Numerous visual/graphics glitches on the updater window and the launcher window itself. I expect this is due to my hardware which is about 8 years old. Having a game launcher with higher graphical requirements than the game it launches is ludicrous from any standpoint.

The NCSoft launcher is downloading files for the CoH Test server at about one-sixth the speed of the usual game launcher. This is unacceptable.

The "Uninstalled Games" thing is unnecessary and mandatory at the same time. It's something that really should be able to be toggled off.
  21. I really wish I hadn't bought a new time card now.

The NC Soft launcher does not behave satisfactorily with my computer. My computer is old and it will be some time before I can afford to upgrade to a new one. I am not saying "BOO! THIS CHANGE MAKES ME SO ANGRY I MUST PUBLICLY AND LOUDLY ANNOUNCE MY INTENT TO RAGEQUIT!" I am saying that this change will likely force me to stop playing the game because my computer does not run the launcher well.

I do not expect them to build new software around hardware that is about 8 years old. It's just not good business.
  22. For me, Hasten is a must. I'm not going to kick people off a team because they don't have it.

Damage ones use the damage channel, I believe. I think some debuff ones use the combat channel.
