I think lack of taunt aura's is really hurting the perception of scrappers, but hopefully SS will get a port at some point and that should see some more activity here (I would kill for Energy Melee too, again with a balance pass as it goes).

Quote:Because they have a website that they should be using to its full capability. You can display text and pictures on here so there is no real reason for using prezzi (Whatever that is) other than because it is some kind of stupid fashion. The summery of the pummet is created on presentation software that requires the use of that website.
This forum software CANNOT display the information in that format.
But I fail to see the difference. The info is there. You can find it via the official site. Why is clicking a link so painful?
Edit: I just went to the main site to see what I could see about the pummit and found this beauty

That just makes me MORE angry!

Quote:The only time you can steal aggro from a brute or tank is when they don't even bother trying to get aggro because they are used to the whole team not needing anyone to tank for them. Even then I can't see it (And never have), unless you are talking about the adds over the aggro cap or when you get to a mob first, but that isn't aggro to steal, just there to claim. On teams a blapper is walking on thin ice because a destructive Blapper can easily out Tank a Tanker or Brute due to AOE damage output. That's a problem because at -1/x8 you had a chance of somehow surviving an alpha but most teams play on +1 or higher so you're going to faceplant A LOT unless you have a good Tabker and you're really skilled at jumping in, Nuking and running around the corner before they get a hit or mezz in.
This really seems like one of those 'blasters already do lots of damage' claims, but they actually don't (The brute you can't steal aggro from for example will likely be out damaging you) even if you don't have to worry about death. -

What I would say is that the Sweep combo is a godsend for /regen. Knocking everything on it's *** gives you plenty of time to click your heal or let your natural regen do it's job.

Quote:I should probably say that hiding Tough/Weave behind 2 weaker powers that give survivability wouldn't see any complaints from me, my gripe is being forced to take a power that has nothing to do with the powers I really want (IE: Take an attack to get defence, even though I can see how they fit into 'fighting' they don't make gameplay sense).*shrugs*
I think it has more to do with the amount of effect the powers you're aiming for have and how valued they are to a build. Tough is a decent chunk of resistance to common damage types and Aid Self is a handy self heal. Apparently the devs think those powers can add quite a bit to many builds while apparently you guys find either power a wash. In the dev's thinking, gaining both advantages for 4 power picks is fair while you guys think 2 is adequate. Then I'd have to ask just how weak you think these powers are? It's about choice? Okay, well what about balance?
The only way I could really justify Aid Self being a first pick was using the same logic, but it is weak enough that I don't see any balance concerns like there would be with Tough/Weave. -
Quote:If Rage didn't crash I think everyone would. I agree it is underrated. If people were crazy about performance they should definitely play nothing but SS/fire brutes, though. It's an underrated combo. Yes, I'm saying this with a straight face.
On topic I must be the only one thinking that Fire Blast doesn't have enough AoE (Breath sucks, RoF is great, everyone can get Fireball). -
Quote:But there is no reward for that thought because you do not do more damage than scrappers or brutes a lot of the time, and they don't need to think. To answer the OP question in simple terms.
Damage.
I have read and tried to understand why exactly so many people think they need fixing and I just don't see it. The AT requires some thought to play. That appeals to me. Buttom mashers should play something else. Period.
Also it is bad design if the AT most new players are drawn too requires the most difficult playstyle unless there are great rewards from doing so. The only reward to being a well played blaster is that you can match the average scrappers and brutes (THB - don't mention Drain Psyche). -

Quote:I think the shift in focus has hurt the game to be honest, but it could be that driving the old players out and replacing them with an influx of new players is making business sense. I hope they go back to everything being for 8 man teams before I totally give in though.Posting in general seems way down, also I'll echo that the overall focus has changed. Before when you hit 50 perfecting your build was pretty much the end-game. Now that there's a huge raid mechanic in place the game's focus has shifted to league-play.
Maybe its just me and I need to take a break, but the past few months have felt more and more quiet around the forums and game in general. Personally I'm hoping Paragon Studios have a really awesome rabbit to pull out of their hat soon regarding the other MMO they're working on. -

Quote:I mentioned boxing in one of my posts, I see it exactly the same as the medicine pool, locking a power you would want for reason A behind a power you would only really want for reason B.No, boxing is never a wasted power. You can always use boxing and kick soloing or teaming to fill a chain or leveling or whatever, you can't always use stim and heal other if you solo if at all. In any case changing fighting would only affect very minor of people. Because even if you open up tough as a first pick, you still need another power to take weave, which most people will also take when they're commited to the fightan pool. I don't know where this "nerf fighting" came from, I'm pretty sure I never said anything about changing fighting.
Just as stim/aid other adds nothing to a build looking for survivability, boxing adds nothing to a build looking for survivability (And doesn't even get on the bar on any of my toons, I actually use aid other/stim occasionally). -
Quote:By the numbers it is actually right in the middle, but it is the feel of the set that many people don't like.Hm. I never realized that EM was considered so unworkable. I have a lvl 50 Shield/EM tank who's still a joy to play, even in Incarnate content. I do think that Shield Charge helps immensely with her damage output, that much is clearly notable, but she does just fine in terms of damage. In fact, she feels to me like she's my best tank in terms of damage output.
I also don't have a problem with Energy Transfer's -hp drawback. I take it as more of the risk/reward that's always been with the set. It's bitten me a few times in a fight, but I think it gives EM its own flavor, if you will, forcing you to play it differently than any other powerset.
As a tank I assume you concentrate on the harder targets, which are probably still alive when you finish using Total Focus, but generally there is a lot of corpse bashing and the set starts to feel very disjointed and slow. -

Quote:Sorry this thread was probably the 5th thread in a row I posted in where I saw the devs/game owners/whoever doing something that I disagreed with and was annoyed when I posted that comment.Wait, what?
That seems out of left field.
Out of curiosity, has anyone gotten their code yet? Still waiting on mine.
This in particular was the 2nd thread where something wasn't announced on these forums, why have a forum if you aren't going to use it properly, we don't all want to check twitter, fbook or whatever the hell tumblr is to see stuff that they should be providing us with on their own website! -
It isn't full stealth iirc, so unless you have another source of stealth they are still going to see you if you get too close.
-
I didn't think about that, but I don't see it as too much of an issue because without defence you can't really use it, and the end/heal ratio isn't enough to make much different (If any) in downtime between fights.

Quote:The problem is they don't really do it very well. Every single time I look at making a damage dealer I end up with a scrapper or a brute, and not just because of survivability, but because it is so much easier to apply the damage and they do more anyway in a lot of cases.I think one fatal flaw in you guys' decision that 'Blasters should Blast'...that's exactly why they're in the mess they're in. Blasters have their problems because they, frankly, can't do much else. They don't get comprehensible self-mitigation and what they do get, they get at reduced value. They can't debuff, they can't control they can't shed aggro and what of those capabilities they may get, again, they do at reduced value.
To put it in another frame: What should Blasters do? Blast? Well, they do that and they still suffer.
Blasters need long recharging big hitters to take out single threats very fast (IE: remodelled snipes that can 1 shot a LT with no slotting), more damage in general on the other attacks, at least 3 AoE's in all sets (Including the nuke which should have no crash) and a secondary capable of maintaining their advantage (Range and damage) by keeping mobs away (Without controlling them directly).
I just opened mids and took a fire/fire blaster and here is my idea:
Fire Blast:
Flares - same but more damage
Fire Blast - same but more damage
Fire Ball - same but more damage
RoF - same but more damage and a taunt similar to omega maneuver at the point where the fire originates (in the air) to similate a 'looking for what is attacking you' effect and allow you breathing room
Fire Breath - faster, longer, wider and more damage
Aim - change to something like fiery embrace so it helps more with damage
Blaze - better range
Blazing Bolt - long recharge (30-40s) fast cast time (1s) and massive damage that pretty much will kill what you hit with it
Inferno - change to ranged more like pyronic judgement
(You could maybe add something like a .5 second stun onto every attack to simulate the 'ouch', AoE powers would have a 50% chance)
Fire Manipulation: - Please ignore the power order, I just replaced powers I don't agree with for ones I do.
Ring of Fire - Wide PBAoE with damage repel/fear to keep enemies out of melee range. Causes 'on fire'
Burnout clone replacing Fire Sword - All powers are recharged instantly, long recharge - probably T9.
Combustion - increase the temperature in an area (ranged) causing targets in the area to take extra damage from the fire attacks dot, chance for the whole area to catch fire (A bit like OSA). Causes 'on fire'
Smoke replacing FSC - TAoE causing -perception and -range. No aggro.*
Build up - same
Blazing Aura - ground based patch that does good damage and acts similar to caltrops. Causes 'on fire'
Consume - TAoE instead of PBAoE
Burn - places the burn patch as currently but teleports you to the edge of it, puts a small (1s) stun on the enemies to simulate confusion and then gives them a fear (runaway). Causes 'on fire'
Fire Orbs - 2 small, low hp pets which run around for 10s running Hot Feet (With taunt component) and explode upon death. Causes 'on fire'
Enemies suffering from 'On fire' take extra damage from fire attacks (Not related to the fire dot). You could even give all NPC's a long recharge 'douse flames' power that causes them to stop and put out the fires which would kind of act as an extra control as they would probably use it on your first attack thus mitigating the alpha.
All attacks could also create smoke to give short term -range as well.
So lots of damage, survivability through -range, tiny stuns (So short they can't stack) but give a break in the return fire and area denial to keep people out of melee range in several ways, unique mechanic, nice pets.
This imho keeps blasters into their role of sitting back and dishing it out. -
Quote:I always forget that tanks have higher base numbers when I start talking about low level survivability. So yeah Aid Self would be good for them.Depends what you are using it with. One of the intentional balancing weaknesses of SR is lack of access to a self heal. However (and I tried this myself) it's pretty easy to get near the def cap on an SR tank even at low levels, especially if you also have a Parry type ability.
If you are doing incarnate content you probably have plenty of heals anyway and won't have any advantage, but at low levels the survivability is massively ahead of anything else.
I think SR needs a heal regardless though, debuff resistance isn't really enough to push it ahead of Energy now imho. -
Quote:ET is a better DPA power than TF, so if TF gets no love it might still kill the set for a lot of people. What to do? *shrug* I don't know. Keep the HP loss in Energy Transfer, speed it up a bit and turn it into a cone?
In fact if TF didn't have such a long animation I don't think many people would be complaining about the ET nerf because it is still a good power (I am not sure about the -health since I never made it that high several times). -
Quote:I don't think TT has -kb, so Torrent would still scatter stuff.I do like TT for the potential it has...more damage, shorter activation, wider cone and the obvious pro of locking down enemies. I also thought that since I would be taking Torrent as a prereq...I may be able to get use out of slotting that with the FF proc...and then use it after TT...or even vice versa...using torrent to knock them into a corner and then using TT to lock them there. However, either way it still becomes only situational.

In my other post I almost mentioned making the T3 or T4 into a taunt aura, but then I realised it would be another power my scrapper wants locked behind a power she doesn't!
