  1. The Scrapper is my favorite AT. Favorite combo is Martial Arts and either Regen or Willpower. Lately I can be found playing my Dark/Shield Scrapper, who just got Shield Charge, and it's a hella fun and powerful combo.

Second choice is a hard call between Controllers and Dominators. For sets it's either Fire/Storm or Mind/Storm 'trollers, or Gravity/x or Fire/x Doms.

I'm a fan of Ranged in so many other games, but here I dig melee. It's not just the status protection issue either.

Pretty much this^. If I have to pick one, I'm a badger, but it's not the reason I play.

I don't do AE or PvP at all. AE bothers me on a conceptual basis, and I don't care for the PvP in this game. Yes, I've tried both, no I didn't care for either. I keep my PvP to games made FOR it, FPSs, Warhammer Online, Aion, Guild Wars, none of which I play anymore.

    Good for: altoholics.
Objection: merits are something the characters are supposed to accrue through their own actions.
Rebuttal: so is influence, and we pass that stuff around all the time.
I'd argue that most people that concerned about keeping each character separate would feel about inf and Merits the same way. I've never traded inf between characters, and wouldn't trade Merits either.

Mind you I've no problem with others mailing Merits around, just that I wouldn't. I daresay the people who feel as I do are a rather small minority though so if the goal is to get Merits actually in use I'm all for it. I have the strength to resist temptation.

However I do wonder if Nuclear Toast (et al)'s stance is so widespread as to need addressing. Somewhere out there after all is a player or three that sells ALL their drops and recipes to an NPC vendor only, out of ignorance or out of principal.
  4. I've redeemed merits for random recipe rolls, and gotten mostly junk. The rare few that were useful I slotted myself, the others were put on the market (for 5) for a couple of days, then removed and sold to a store. I don't recall a single one selling.

I've gotten far more use out of the random recipe drops than anything Merit-related, and supplied the market more too. I'm not one to run a lot of TFs so I don't see much need in trying to build up 275 for the top-end stuff. I wouldn't earn that many over 10 characters.
  5. Used to be pretty keen to experience every story arc, I was pretty hardcore about soloing when I started this game, and I think I've gotten most of the ones that existed before I10 or so on some character or other. However as of the last couple of years I've only hit the arcs I'd get in between teaming. I vastly prefer to team now, where it's difficult to follow along an arc, if the team bothers with one at all. I don't really miss 'em honestly, they were nice but sadly somewhat generic out of necessity.

There are several TFs though that I've never done, and I've yet to see what a SF is like.
  6. I have a level 33 Mercs/Poison MM. She does not have the ally rez. I vastly prefer to team on all my characters, have therefore been on many, many teams (all PUGs), and have NEVER been berated for not having the rez. In fact no one's ever asked for it.

I have a 23ish Ill/Rad. He also lacks the ally rez. All my Controllers team pretty much exclusively, so he's also been on tons of PUGs, and he's never had anyone ask for the rez at all either, much less get complained at for the lack.

Totally anecdotally, I believe it's no big deal. I should also mention that on the thousands of teams I've been on in this game, not once do I recall anyone getting yelled at for not having the rez they "should" have. It's likely I've just forgotten an occurence or two, but it's hardly epidemic.

My attitude toward rezzes, self- or other-, is that they get taken if I have the room, since they're convenient at times. If I have no room or want something else more, it's as easy as carrying an Awaken or going to the hospital. I very rarely take them. I expect the same attitude from others, frankly.
  7. Can't hardly blame him. Especially if he's into Defenders and/or Dual Pistols.
  8. It's not a gamebreaker, but it is minorly stupid and annoying. I'm one of the few that thought little of Freakshow to begin with, and this is just another thing I don't like. It's just a few seconds of standing around, but it's the very idea that grates.

I just have to laugh at how it hasn't really hurt farmers at all. Heck of a fix there.
  9. I've mentioned in the past how I'd love to play a Capcom vs. Whatever style fighting game with Co* characters. I was actually thinking of MY characters obviously, but what the heck, throw in Statesman and Sister Psyche and Mako too and I'd invest even more tokens/quarters into that machine. Tag-team matches, no limits on sides (i.e. team up Statesman and Recluse once again if you want), and of course loud flashy over-the-top HYPER COMBO FINISH(!*n) attacks with ludicrous names announced by a hyperactive narrator.

I'd play an old-school beat-em-up game too. Heck, I love those no matter what character it is. Tyris Flare, Axel, Cody, whichever Turtle uses the bo, Bart Simpson. Actually I bet Sister Psyche would be an awesome character for that, with her Force Fields and TK to throw things around. Somebody make this.

    Cut scene spam

Edited: You know what? I'm cranky as hell right now. Shouldn't be posting at all. Ignore this.

    Cut scene spam

What's most of interest to me here is that some people just run TFs over and over, and therefore see the same cutscenes over and over, so that they feel the NEED to liven it up a bit. If it's that tiresome, why torture themselves so? This merit-hungry mentality amazes me.

I guess I'm lucky. I have never once had a cutscene during a group mission that elicited anything FROM the group at all. We just watched it. The one and only time I've run an ITF, on my designated badger, several of the group had done it all many times, yet none of them spammed or felt the need to play comedian.

If it ever happened, I suppose my reaction to it would depend on whether the would-be comic was actually funny, or just an idiot. Some people think typing "OZZY RULES!" a hundred times in a row in neon-green 80-point font is simply hysterical.
  12. ^ And the cycle begins anew. Oh, but YOU will be the one to convince her this time.

Is that the name, just Tropers?
  14. You know, I always assumed that it's just the kind of community we have. Quite a few people here strike me as the type to add tropes to such a site, and I'm one of them myself.

And I guarantee you that among the various player characters, EVERY trope is made manifest somewhere. Personally I lean toward these for 95% of my characters, and I have a character named Staff Chick who's waiting on Staff Melee.
  15. I am for animated hair as well. That said, I'm not so sure THIS engine would do it to our satisfaction. Ghost Widow famously has moving hair, but as I understand it that's basically a cape on the back of her head. It suffices for her particular hairstyle, but how would it look on all my Low Ponytail wearers? And just what did she (the NPC model) have to give up for it? I guarantee you some costume options were locked out in exchange for that head-cape.

City of 2 for animated hair.
  16. I drop:

    - Missions that are in the middle of that damned Perez Park maze, especially if there are large spawns of +3s in the way (and bonus points if they're mez-heavy like Lost). I hate mazes anyway in any game.

    - Most large hunts. There's no story-related reason to defeat 50 of anything ever. Doesn't have to be 50 though, if I think any hunt is stupid I'll drop it. "Confirm" the presence of something...hey contact, I'm ******* looking at one after hitting Tab, it's ******* confirmed. I confirm that you're wasting my damn time with worthless filler. Want to see why they call me an anti-hero?

    - Missions that I've already half-done the last game. Occasionally I'll get something lengthy, like an Oranbega scavenger hunt or one of those multi-floor-multi-elevator MC Escher Industries Inc lab maps, get started, then whoops it's 1am, didn't I just sit down here? Fairly rare obviously, but when it happens and I didn't find the mission interesting the first time I don't feel the need to do it again just because.
  17. I want freakin' headset mics, that's all I ask. I'm talking those discrete little mics, not the big honkin' head antenna we already have. Something for those stealth operatives and military types, that's half my character list and I know there are others. Some of the NPCs have them, notably the merit vendors, and I want.

I wouldn't mind some of Foreshadow's outfit either, that guy just looks fantastic. Like a futuristic Navy SEAL. He can keep his signature hair and that visor as his own (though I'd like it too honestly), let us have the rest.

  18. This is hearsay, but I recall hearing of a published author who recreated his own characters in this game, got genericed, and successfully got it reversed because after all they were his characters. I'm totally blanking on the author's name right now, and I don't think he plays any more. No, it's not he of the Zuni mask, he makes up originals anyway. I'll think of it in a minute.

Jim Butcher, author of The Dresden Files. That's who it was, just remembered. Several years ago he played, supposedly.
  19. I'm totally wanting a Nuka Cola Quantum right now.

*Looks at half-empty Mt Dew, thinks of Yellow 5*

    Hmm. Done?
  20. Heh, that'd be hilarious, in an ED-209 kind of way.

"Freeze villain! Drop your weapon!' ZZZHHHAAAP

    "Yeah, get 'em drone!"

    "Freeze hero! Drop your weapon!"

"Hey, what are you...no stop I'm Martial Arts and" ZZZHHHAAAPPP

    "Have a good day, citizen!"

Probably had to cut it down to get the Teen rating.
  21. DKellis has a character named Highly Visible Ninja. So apparently.

Wait, Gravity Cat? I have Buttered Cat.
  22. Yeah really, what's this about noobs? My DP Blaster has hardly any end issues period, so she's been known to Ninjarunflip around unnecessarily too. Great for solo street-sweeping as a nice change. I don't play this game to be efficient, I play to look awesome and be entertained. There some super-seekrit bonus for having the most end during a mission or something? If you have enough, who cares.

    I'd sign for the OP.
  23. Yeah, basically the "line" isn't drawn first, it's only drawn after the petition has been sent. You can get away with most anything as long as nobody bothers to report it as a violation. Or knows it is one. The GMs err on the side of caution, if the stories I've seen are any indication.

I have mostly entirely-original creations (or at least as anything at all can be said to be original), but I do have a few characters who are unofficially part of an existing world. They're originally-named and have their own stories but I had a setting in mind already. I have an ogre who was part of the Dark Brotherhood (Elder Scrolls), and a demonic axe-wielder who'd be right at home in a Conan comic. Their bios merely suggest without making it explicit. Plausible deniability, heh.

For that matter, several of my originals have a known flavor to them. My DP/Energy is very Lara Croft, although she looks different and is actually more influenced by Hong Kong action movies, but the Laraness has been pointed out to me several times.

I've never been genericed. If it ever happened I'd just accept it. I'm pretty sure though that all my characters are different enough. For one thing I never, ever use a known "costume", I make all those up myself.
