Quote:I just happened to be on both tonight, 8-9:45ish Eastern, and for own enlightenment I took various looks at the number of people (unhidden) in Atlas, then Kings Row.And that's on Freedom. Oh wait. That's on Freedom. Is it different over on Virtue? Is it worth paying to move my character?
Freedom Atlas: 160-180
Freedom KR: 12-14
Virtue Atlas: 120-140
Virtue KR: 9-10
Now, were all those people PLing and Farming? Doubt it. Does this mean anything? Shrugs. There always have been lots of people in Atlas, hanging around. -
Quote:Yep and yep. Very rarely I'll kick it up, but I'm here to smack things down, not mess around with them. Even my Scrappers, Brutes, and MMs. One of the best things about I16 is the new ability to set things at -1, hopefully in large amounts too. I don't really care much about getting through levels fast.I almost never take my difficulty off heroic/villainous [...] I just like being able to squish things easily.

Well, the "problem" with Elec Blast's end drain is that either you drain the enemy completely dry, or you may as well not bother trying to drain them at all. It's possible to do, but you need either a) a complementary set that also has -end, b) someone else complementing you with -end, or c) to hang around waiting for your -end powers (mainly Short Circuit) to recharge so you can use it again. Using your other attacks will take the enemy out long before you drain them dry, in which case Elec's secondary effect is flashy but not of any real practical use.
It's not an irretrievably sucky set or anything, it does have a hold, a pet (more or less), decent-enough damage, and it's quite end-friendly. And hey, one of the best-looking nukes in the game, imo (edged out only by Nova and Atomic Blast). For my tastes though it's just kinda dull, and I can't stand the sound of it. Sorry sound guys, by and large you do a wonderful job, but I break out my Storm Summoners for a lightning fix. -
I have one on Virtue, level 42. I'm the only one I've ever seen, actually don't see much AR at all these days, no idea why.
Quote:OH HAI!
TA/Archery, TA/Dark, TA/Sonic... haven't done TA/Elec yet, but I'll get around to it.
I have a Bots/TA that's working out pretty well. Safe as can be, actually it's really boring, but she's only 18. I fully expect to be a murder machine with OSA + AssBot.
Quote:MA/Fire scrappers are rare. So are Shield/Ice tanks. Never seen a Sonic/Ice defender. Don't see a whole lot of Electric Armor stalkers. My Gravity/Ice dominator is the only one I've ever seen.I recall a fair number of people posting about how they were going to roll a MA/Fire, but I've seen people post a whole lot of things that didn't actually translate into reality. I've never seen any of them actually in the game. (Geez, just where is everybody? This is becoming a theme.)
I had a Gravity/TA, made right after the Containment changes. Wow, I felt overpowered actually, I was taking down Bosses with ease, everything just seemed to flow together. -
Issue 16 is of slight importance, but I can tell you for sure that if Going Rogue wasn't en route, I'd give the game an indefinite rest. I'm bored with it, some people get excited about purpling out characters or collecting 50s, I'm not one of them, I don't give a crap about either of those. Since GR is coming, I'm sticking around, though not playing much.

Didn't BAB or someone say that TA/Elec Defender was the least-used combo in the game? I can definitely say that TA/Anything Defs are exceedingly rare to actually see in-game (I just know plenty will pop up here of course), and the rare occasions I see /Elec at all it's inevitably paired with Kin. A bit re-draw-y, TA/Elec, but I guess it'd do okay...I wouldn't roll one, I can't stand Elec Blast in this game. Took a Dark/Elec to 32 (and never saw another), disliked it so much I rerolled as Dark/Rad.
Villain-side I'm amazed whenever I see a */Energy Aura Brute, so I'd venture that as a rare secondary, but for all I know there are tons of them and they hide from me. Brute primaries are all pretty common though. I don't see many /Storm Corruptors, except for mine, nor many Ice/* Dominators. (Heh, at this point I'm floored when a Dom isn't Fire/Psi.) -
After reading about that "no team leader" bug here on the forums a couple of days ago, it happened to my team last night. Team leader DCd at the end of the mission, I was second in line, and when we all zoned out nobody had the star. When I quit team, it said the star went to the next guy in line, but he said that hadn't happened. One of the other team members said they'd bug it so I didn't.
I have some pics of another nice little "bug", from the Test Server May of 2008. Got on there to make an Elec/Rad Corruptor, and accidentally managed to find my OWN way out of the Zig.(Yes, I bugged it, and that hole has since been closed.)
I'm free!
...to go to Hell. Yay.
(Zoomed way out.)
(Even further.)
...Can I go back to jail now?
Stuff like this creeps me out, honestly. Something about the, just, wrongness of it makes my skin crawl. It's like a bad trip. -
"Hey Bobby! Whatcha doin'?"
"Freak-surfing, Mindy! It's the latest craze. Gotta have your weapon out though!"
*Sching!* "I'm next!" -
I can't really say much to blame them. I live all of 4 hours away and I couldn't make it either. Every year I make plans to attend, and then something happens that weekend that I can't avoid.

Quote:It's interesting you mention Fallout 3 - and correct me if I'm misunderstanding what you're saying here - as an example of exploration done badly. I consider that game and Oblivion to be excellent places to just wander around in, as though neither world is all that large there are plenty of things to look at just for the sheer sake of seeing them. The Capital Wasteland does lack snow-covered areas and other variety of terrain, but otherwise there are lots of areas to poke around in which might or might not have some sort of "point". To me, exploring an area should occasionally take cues from real life, and have nothing there but scenery.Of course, Fallout 3 demonstrates the sheer limitations of open terrain quite clearly. The game is TINY in comparison to all the other Fallout games, being consigned to, essentially, a small section of a city and its suburbia. It's also CRAMMED with copy-pasted metro tunnels, reused buildings and lots of flat ground to walk across. It's also a PAIN to get around, even if you want to explore. "Say, these hills on the map look suspicious. I wonder what's over there." 15 minutes later, there's only the location of a mission you haven't taken and can't do anything there. Cue the cluster F-bomb.
I agree that Paragon City and the Rogue Isles are not particularly interesting places to explore, by and large. There are exceptions here and there, Oro and the Shadow Shard, and other places mentioned in that thread started by Dark_Respite. But the world isn't really intended for that either; as I'm sure has been pointed out, this game is not the same kind of world, it's basically like...well, a lot of console RPGs come to mind, as there are usually world maps you can travel around on, but the actual content is all within the named areas. CHV thinks like that, on a smaller scale than EQ, FFXI, etc. It's not quite as simple as just adding a new map.
Regarding the emphasis on rewards, I feel the game has changed a lot since a few issues ago, and to me it's not for the better. Or maybe I should say, the rewards themselves have changed, and the game followed suit. Doom? No, quite the contrary actually, lots of people are much happier I'm sure. Eh, maybe I'm just burned out, or projecting, there's just so little...spark, magic, passion, any more. -
Same here in Georgia, was nasty Sunday, but obviously was getting better Monday and it's just fine now. Some Windows update came through yesterday, dunno if that was just coincidence.

Too many Science-Origin characters are overradiated.

Quote:I have a Hero who plants bombs.Yay villains! I can prove it with a simple thing: Villains always end up planting bombs, heroes always end up disarming them. We all know explosions are awesome. Therefore, villains > heroes.
Man I wish we had detonate-at-will bombs in this game, plantable on environment or enemies. -
Such misinformation in this thread. Everyone knows the proper inspiration line-up is as follows:
-
Yeah, I can see it happening. First and only time I've ever run that TF it took about 90 minutes, and 45 of those were in the final mission, including 30 waiting on people who were afk. Wouldn't surprise me if there were plenty of shortcuts to be had, plus the familiarity of doing it a lot.

Playing...just...ONE character?
These words. I do not understand. -
Heh, if we're talking about what costumes we see other players use a whole lot, the Organic shoulders have to be up there on the list. Those are the ones with the "fingers". If there's a hood on the character as well, the likelihood of Organic shoulders increases significantly, and if the color scheme is black and red, it's about 99%.
Capes used to be on practically everyone, whether the outfit looked good with them or not, but that's calmed down a bit. -
It's funny how some people get eyestrain from red but not blue, or vice versa. I wonder if there's a reason for that in the eye.

Quote:Well, you still have to give somewhat of a crap, but a Regen Scrapper is not a bad choice at all. Status protection they have, as long as you don't aggro a roomfull at once, and as long as you follow a couple of rules you can handle them just fine. Carry a couple of break-frees and blues just in case. First rule: if there's a Sapper, rush that bastage with whatever build-up type power you have and take him out, preferably in a single shot or involving a knock-down. (My MA/Regen had that hold from Darkness Mastery too, which was SO very helpful. That plus Crane Kick = dead Sapper.) Second rule: some Titans (Hercules and Zeus) have -regen in their missiles, so ideally you can just pop into melee, but at the very least you want to rush them too. I actually rather enjoyed Malta missions with my main, it was fun sneaking up on Sappers and Titans using available cover.Just out of curiosity, what kinds of builds steamroll Malta the best? Of these, which also have no problems with Carnies? But mainly, I'm wondering about which powersets dont even notice that Malta have powers? I figure it'd be something with Mez protection. But beyond that, which armor sets let you totally not give a crap?
I dont play a lot of melee types so I'm just curious.
Lewis
Carnies are not a problem for a Regen. The only thing to beware of is killing off a bunch at once, but that's something every non-defense character would want to avoid anyway.
Edited: Yeah, Hercules and Zeus Titans get a Plasma Blast that's -regen. Obviously that's something a Regen is going to want to avoid. They only do that at range though, get right in their faces. -
I think an armored dragon-girl would be a right nifty idea.
-
Yeah, Hero style here, used blue on the old ones too. Has nothing to do with the games, and everything to do with the fact that so much red hurts my eyes after a few minutes. Only thing worse would be yellow.

If I use the female scarred face that has the closed eye, I cover up the lower half with a mask too. For some reason that face gives her a slightly open mouth, and it just doesn't look good to me.

Quote:My Gravity/Ice Dominator (back before the buff) did fine, mainly because I had read about them ahead of time here on the forums and knew to keep them the heck out of melee. Some people like to say that a Dom HAS to be in melee, but she's always tended to stay at range, so she didn't have much problem. Hold 'em all, pick them off, spamming holds as necessary. If all else fails, hide in the Singularity. I saved Domination for the Wizard (purple-conned), and he never got off a shot.I wonder if anyone's ever survived their first whole encounter with them? They are tough, indeed.
There's one mission where you're not only facing Vanguard, but a prior ally as well (details omitted to avoid spoilers), and he had a bugged habit at the time of spawning as a full-on Hero, the 32k+ hp high-damage type, no matter what difficulty or team size. He is hostile to the Vanguard. The three Vanguard he was facing took him down to HALF HIS HEALTH before he won. Sadly I knew I wasn't prepared for a Hero fight even with "only" that much hp, so I had to reset the mission. -
Platform Boots, Ponytail Low, and Tank Top (under Tops with Skin). Of my 30 female characters, all have at least one, and several have all three. For that matter, if the first outfit involves the Ponytail Low, a later outfit will inevitably have the Glam style hair, as it looks the most like what would happen if the ponytail came undone. I like the Athletic Action Girls, what can I say.
Also the tattoos on the arms are always either Tribal or Isles. Right now I'm not coming up with a single character that doesn't have arm tattoos.
