Welcome back (again), kiddo! Hope it's been warmer on that end of the country than it's been here for the past week. Give a yell sometime, so we can catch up on all the juicy gossip.
HEY FOLKS!!! I found out what Sorah's been doing inbetween times she resubs her game account. She's been doing some work in the theater, becoming a legitimate singer and dancer. No, really!

Any clues for us as to the description of the guy? Any distinguishing features or mode of dress? What style(s) of blades does he use?
Give us some help, here. -
Although we can HOPE the GMs have more sense than to penalize someone for a non-issue such as this, we always have to recognize the possibilities.
I've had to deny dev-hood on my character "Longbow Rifleman" because the costume IS close enough that people have to look twice to see the differences. I even got a /tell from redside, when a player had a NPC Longbow Rifleman targeted and sent it a /tell by mistake, making the message come to my character instead. He thought the NPC in the Rogue Isles was responding to him and I had to talk him down. It's even kind of fun getting griefed by folks who don't realize the character is player-run, because I get to use some of my Local macros and watch the surprise reactions.
Enjoy it while you've got it, but yes...definitely use all due care to avoid misunderstanding.
BTW, the boxing boots in different color combinations also make excellent sneakers/basketball shoes. I have the black/white reversed on one character's outfit, and it looks great.
@Power Play -
Just to clarify, "making the grade" is merely a phrase meaning to qualify for something. It doesn't mean I thought anyone was actually grading the characters.
-
OMG, great artz!
Welcome to Virtue. Please don't feed the catgirls unless you want them to never leave you alone.
Oh, and the new guy brings the doughnuts. -
Well, since Liberty Eagle didn't make the grade, let me try a redside character, Vergeltungswaffe (stalker). He wields a blade loosely modeled after a ninjato, but made of "fine Solingen steel" (his words).
He's an operative activated in the last days of WWII by the dying Third Reich. His task is to search the world and take vengeance (Vergeltungswaffe = vengeance/retaliation weapon) against those who betrayed the Fatherland.
(As you can probably imagine, the symbol on his chest is something -other- than a Crusaders' cross.)
-
Okay...
Is it a black tie (formal) event or a costume event? Having costume contests at a black tie event seems somewhat out of place.
Just wondering... -
Wow! LOVE the comic style. I will hope against hope the Dragon smiles upon my unworthiness...yadda yadda... You get my drift.
Here is Liberty Eagle from the Golden Age Heroes. He's a Lvl 50 claws (energy talons - think short red lightsabers)/regen scrapper. He stands so straight you'd think he had a flagpole up...well, you know. Think a 1940s Captain America with talons.
Thanks!

Quote:I initiated a BBB complaint against a business, early in this year. Within a month, the BBB had closed it as resolved when all they did was ask for a response from the business and copy/paste it to me. They in NO way resolved the issue. I wouldn't recommend a BBB complaint as they have no legal authority. If you DO wish to pursue a complaint, you may wish to look into a complaint at your local Federal courthouse, as interstate commerce fraud and wire/mail/internet fraud are Federal crimes. You'd be surprised how quickly someone will resolve a situation when they receive a letter of inquiry from an officer of a Federal court.http://www.bbb.org/us/Find-Business-Reviews/
Search for "MMO Art". If you feel you've been wronged, simply file a complaint. All of the complaints filed so far have been resolved, so you might have a chance of getting resolution yourself.
Out of all the folks he owes refunds/artwork, I imagine only a fraction are reading and posting on this particular board. Taking that into account, he could easily have many thousands of dollars of other folks' money, across however many games in which he became known. Can you envision groups of people playing WoW, DDO, DAoC, SWG, et cetera, who may all have the same issue with him (unpaid refunds/undelivered product)?
When you look at it that way, the scope of the issue...the LEGAL issue...could become enormous. The fact he's opened another website (kindredconcepts.com) and has the quote below in his "bio" says he fully intends to continue doing what he's been doing for years now. As the saying goes, the definition of insanity is doing something over and over and expecting it to come out differently.
His quote:
"While I still and will continue to do commissions for individual gamers..."
Jomaro... It will be different THIS time from the other times you've disappeared...HOW?

Some of you probably already know MY story with MMOArt. One of my characters won the Cuppathon CuppaCloning Costume Contest at CuppaJo's going away party. My prize was to be a single character piece valued at $250, from MMOArt. That was in September of '06. In April of '07, I was informed they had three "prize pieces" to complete, all of which would be done that month. Mine was one of them. I had sporadic contact with them since then (all initiated by me) and was promised (repeatedly) that it would be worked on. The other two prize pieces were completed years ago but mine was never even started. The last update on their site had my piece as the SIXTH one down the list on their prize queue to be completed, even though mine was commissioned YEARS before the others in that queue. Then (predictably) MMOArt shut down AGAIN, leaving me without my art and without any hope for it in the future.
It's not so much that I'm out a piece of art. It's more that he gave his word to CuppaJo herself (AND NCSoft) that he'd provide the piece as a prize for her special party then went back on his word with no guilt whatsoever.
I have NOTHING good to say about the man. He sucks as a businessman and has shown me he has NO integrity whatsoever.

HELLO NCNC!!! This one's for you.
You might want to take the 7-11 logo off your page where it says they sell game cards. I didn't see any in my local store, so I got curious. I went into four other stores in the next few days, and NONE of them had any game cards. One employee at a store who actually plays CoX said they were thrown away a few months ago because they didn't sell.
NCNC, if you have a contract with 7-11, the stores in the Tampa, Florida area are violating it, big time. -

I've long since stopped worrying about being in closed Beta. I've got all the vets' rewards...been here since before the paint was dry on City Hall...but have yet to be chosen for anything other than open Beta for CoV, which was so laggy I couldn't even play.
All this does is give a person heartburn. -
This thread is really exploding! Awesome.
Just so you know, there are multiple Golden Age SGs on Virtue, including Golden Age Guild and Guardians of the Golden Age, so the Golden Age Heroes SGs (in my .sig) isn't the only horse in the race.
I even know of a couple folks who made their Pulp style characters completely in grayscale, and gave them backstories of coming to our Earth from an alternate universe where the Pulp characters actually exist. and everything is in black and white.
Everyone, let's make Virtue the unofficial Pulp/Golden Age server! -

I had a situation a while back where due to Server problems with my bank, the Debit card I was using showed an incorrect balance, If it weren't for having the cash to purchase a Game Time card I wouldnt be able to access the game (NCSOFT still won't take that card for Subscription even though it's a Visa logo'd card.0
[/ QUOTE ]
You MAY want to check with your bank and with Visa customer service. It's my understanding that anyone who takes Visa cards is required to sign an agreement to take ALL Visa cards. I used to be a retail store manager and I've never heard of not taking certain cards while taking others. If there was an issue with your bank, and your balance was not credited properly, perhaps your bank's customer service department can write a letter to the NCSoft billing department explaining that the issue has been resolved. If MY bank screwed up like that, I'd be after them to make it right.
Alternately, you CAN get a bank debit card reissued under a different card number for the same account, if there have been problems with it. Most banks don't even charge, but will deactivate your old card and reissue you the new one by mail within a few days. All you have to do is request it and tell them there's been a problem with that card number. That should get you a new number that NCSoft doesn't have on its list of problem accounts.
Hope some of that helps. -

Vengeance Weapon. It was what the Germans called their superweapons that were supposed to knock Britain out of WWII.
Vergeltungswaffe

Exactly, although it's often translated as "Retaliation Weapon", as well. The "V" in the V-1 (primitive cruise missile) and V-2 (primitive ballistic missile) weapons' designations stood for the word Vergeltungswaffe. -
Hey, NYC!
Just so you know...PinUp Girl (TheMaskedShrike's character) and her fella Proud Citizen, are in our GAH group (in my .sig) on Virtue.
To the rest of you slackers with such GORGEOUS Golden Age characters... If you're RPers, get your butts over to the SG link in my .sig and post a hello on our forum...or perhaps even a membership application if you'd like. If you have a Pulp/Golden Age/early Silver Age RP SG and are looking for a coalition partner or two, come on by as well.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
Here are some of mine.

Well, I notice that my piece isn't in his queue. For that matter, I doubt any prize pieces are. When we were communicating a while back, it seemed as if he failed to realize he WAS getting paid for the prize pieces, through the free advertising they generated within his target audience, the MMO community. Prize pieces are his advertising budget, and are well worth it in the amount of new business they can generate if handled correctly. That notwithstanding, mine being a prize piece, I am somewhat stuck. I can't ask for a refund, so I sent him an email requesting to be put back into his to do list. So we begin a third round.
Frankly, the whole "multitude of system failures" line stinks to high heaven. If he does his artwork by hand then scans it onto the computer, what can fail? You scan it in and back it up onto a CD or memory card. If you lose a scanner/printer, VERY good photo quality units are available for under $100. Seing as he's charging many times that for some of the pieces he's selling, it doesn't sound like an unreasonable option.
There is something else behind his disappearance. I can smell it in the wind. Will this be the last time he closes up shop with no notice? Only time will tell.
To the artists of the CoH/CoV community...THANK YOU. To Juggertha, MANY thank yous. I hope some of my SG mates get commission works from you. I posted a link to the piece for them to see and there was much drooling, oooh-ing, and aaah-ing, as well there should be. -

I never thought that this would blossom from one of my posts. I was extremely bitter at the time, knowing that not only my piece but many others were left undone. I don't usually rant and I don't know what made me do so other than the fact that I was really looking forward to the MMOArt piece as the first piece of artwork I would ever have of one of my characters.
Instead, thanks to Juggertha (MANY MANY thanks, btw), this has turned into something which eclipses even the return of the great UniqueDragon (hallowed be his name). I will be forever honored to have been the first. A HUGE thank you to Juggy and everyone else doing these pieces.
Oh, and btw Juggy...you got Eagle's build just about right. That screenie doesn't show it but I did him as the classic Captain America type body type with the huge chest and small waist, as an over the top version of an American hero. He soon took on a life of his own, however, and turned into much more. I'll always treasure the piece, even moreso than if MMOArt had done it, just because of what this has turned into within the CoH/CoV community.
Juggy, you and the rest of the artists here are incredible! -

Hey PowerPlay, I just wanted to say "thanks for sharing" and I kow it's a sour feeling when you're not happy with a product.
1. I honestly don't think that Gill was copying any Wolverine shots. I've drawn a number of "clawed scrappers" and it's VERY easy to fall into the "wolvie vibe" when plotting it out. Trying to show a figure with claws out... and not making it look like wolverine, it quite hard actually. Heck, even girls can sometimes take on that vibe.
2. It's obvious that Gill is not able to complete your prize (for whatever reason). So, in the spirit of forum harmony, I did up this Patriotic Pose for ya. It's not at Gill's level, but maybe you'll accept it as your prize instead.
Hope ya dig.
(and hope someone here's some news from MMOART)

HOLY CR*P, JUGG...THAT'S GORGEOUS!!!!!
I could say thank you, but I just lost feeling in my tongue. I think I stepped on it. Well, you couldn't hear it over the forum anyway, but I hope you understand. I guess I could still type it though, eh?
THANK YOU!!!!!111eleventyone!!!
I can definitely say that's just DRIPPING with

Thanks again, about a gazillion more times, give or take a couple!
Oh, and someone wanted me to pass along an IC thank you.

Well, I guess my experience with MMOArt isn't that different from others' here after all. It's been since September '06, CuppaJo's going away party, that I've been owed a full color single subject piece by them, for my character winning the costume contest at the event. My problems with them started immediately, however, and they've never been more than barely cordial to me in correspondence.
It was almost six months after the contest when I FINALLY got them to do ANYTHING on my piece. I was sent a rough pencil sketch of a position they suggested for the character. It was about two minutes worth of work, scanning included. The position was totally opposite of the description of the character I had sent in with the screenshots, when I submitted that character to be the subject of my prize piece. I had told them my character (Liberty Eagle, shown as my avatar) was an upright, inspirational Captain America type, likely to be seen standing at attention and saluting the flag. Instead, I got a crouching, twisted post which looked like it was right out of a Wolverine comic. Yes, the character is a claws/regen scrapper, but he's NOT Wolverine.
I was informed (and it was posted on their site) that all prize commissions currently held would be completed by that April. I was told mine was to be done JUST after the next batch of three or so they had to complete from a previous contest. After that, several more months passed with no artwork and no communication, their own stated deadline having become ancient history. Despite a number of emails, I heard nothing more from them until I, in disgust, posted something to these boards, warning others of their lack of performance. It had been exactly a year to the day since my piece had been won in the contest. "Gill" sent me several insulting emails (FINALLY, communication!), saying he would still do the piece out of the goodness of his heart, even though I had insulted him (by telling the truth?) with my posting. Weeks later, and another round of descriptions (resubmitted) and another suggestion by me, for a possible character position and I had ANOTHER two minute sketch, AGAIN in a Wolverine-like crouched and twisted feral pose. When I DARED to say that now BOTH the sketches were totally unlike the character and still looked as if they were copied from a Wolverine comic, "Gill" was again very insulting. As a response, I emailed him a compilation of a number of images of Wolverine, from the comics, each one an almost IDENTICAL pose to one or the other of the sketches I had received. That's the last I heard from him.
I was insulted multiple times in emails and was treated like dirt. I was outright lied to. My information about the character was ignored and I was basically told, in an email, that I was a charity case, just because mine was a prize piece. Some of you may know this guy and even like him, but pardon me if I think MUCH less of him. You may think I'm bashing the guy, but everything I'm saying here is the truth. If the truth hurts, so be it.
The worst part, in my mind, was that he broke faith with CuppaJo. He agreed to provide this piece for HER to give away as a prize at her going away party. I may just be some nameless, faceless COH player, and not worth his time and effort, but when he breaks faith with Cuppa, my (not my character's) claws come out.
