Well... How old are you and your brother? Are you living in the same house? ...sharing a computer?

Sharing accounts is something generally taken to mean being shared between people in different households. If you and your brother are in the same house and play on the same computer, they can hardly have an issue with it. If they did, they'd have to lock everyone's accounts who let their kids make a character when they weren't playing themselves, or every parent with their kid in their lap who taught the kid how to play that way. How many people here remember "Sister Flame?" How many people think she used her own credit card to open her account in her own name?

    Hello, Virtue!

    Moiread, fáilte abhaile!

If you like to run any "classic" hero types (think 1940s-early '60s comics...self-sacrificing and noble servants of the public good), check the link in my .sig for the Golden Age Heroes SGs.
  4. Here are some screenies I took in passing. May I say, the holdtorch emote looks awesome with the nighttime lighting.

    Patriot March

    Opening - Moment of Silence

Closing - Thanks to American Legion for this great event!
  5. I am truly surprised more people didn't think to run across KR to the Independence Port Icon rather than going all the way to Serge. It took me no time at all to see that was the way to go.

As far as BAB being a tailor... You guys didn't know those are Swiss Army Gauntlets? There's a sewing machine function among all the others. My favorite function is either his cappuccino maker or his soda fountain. I'm torn between them. I hear he's planning on getting his old gauntlets upgraded and modernized. He's getting a pair of the new Apple iPunch gauntlets. Sewing? Yeah, there's an app for that.
  6. ...to our very own Avatea!

I had an issue I forwarded to support, who escalated the ticket until it landed on Avatea's desk. Well, she didn't just take care of the matter, she totally blew me away in the process. It's things like this which will keep me paying my monthly subscription until they pry the mouse from my cold, dead hand.

Before coming to CoH, I played a game called "Horizons: Empire of Istaria." It was my first MMO and my experience there was terrible. Their customer service was equally as bad as their ingame experience. Imagine my surprise when I got to City of Heroes and found the admins and devs actually played the game, participated in the fora (forums), and LISTENED to the players. Not only that, but when I had a customer service issue, effort was actually made to *gasp* take care of it. I didn't -quite- have a heart attack, but it was close.

Now, Avatea has taken my already good experience with first Cryptic and now NCSoft and taken it even a step higher...awww heck...a LOT of steps higher.

Avatea, thank you again! In front of everyone here, I will proclaim unto the heavens that you are THE BEST! Notice that I even used "unto" which just shows how serious I'm being.

You didn't read what I wrote, did you? It's perfectly reasonable to expect that some laws somewhere will include provisions that if any single part of a contract or agreement is found to be unlawful, it renders the entire instrument null and void. It doesn't matter one little bit what the EULA "explicitly states" as this would be the law voiding the entire EULA...that very law you're agreeing the EULA doesn't "trump."
  8. I think we can all agree the EULA is unenforceable as written. I know that, in many places, it's not possible for you to sign away your rights, your right to privacy included. If NCSoft tried to be as intrusive as the EULA currently claims they -can- be, they would have the electronic pants sued off of them in much of the civilized world.

One thing that NCSoft -may- have done here, however, is shoot themselves in the foot. I am pretty sure that, if some of the portions of the EULA are illegal, it will void the ENTIRE document in some jurisdictions. It would depend on laws which apply to each individual location, but NCSoft may have just given some people free reign to do anything they want with the game. Such is the penalty they pay for trying to make their document too all-encompassing and overstepping their legal need for control over the use of their software.

It would have been suicide for NCSoft to to kill the golden goose by getting their panties in a bunch over copyright/trademark issues. That kind of negative publicity could have seriously hurt the game.
Actually, those two statements I made were not meant to be connected. They addressed two separate issues. Whether or not NCSoft wanted Jarrett to do anything specific with his character is immaterial. If I created a character in CoH called Snufflebutt the Wonder Bunny, I could have Snufflebutt books, movies, toys, et cetera and NCSoft would have nothing to say about it. I, as the character's creator, would have the final say. What I could NOT do is tell NCSoft not to use the character for their own purposes. Since the character is in their game, they can use it to promote the game in any way they choose which is not harmful to the image or value of the character or to my use of the character.

    Nope...

Jarrett (aka The Defuser, from Who Wants to be a Superhero, also aka Detective2416 on these boards) made The Defuser on several of the servers.

Basically, if you create a character ingame, NCSoft owns the ingame rights to the character. That's the only thing you need worry about. If you become famous as that character, they COULD (and probably would) produce promo material for CoH with your character's image and name on it and do things like have your character appear in the CoH comic. By creating the character ingame, you give them the rights to it, to use in any context having to do with City of Heroes. They really don't give a rat's patootie what else YOU do with it.
  11. As far as I'm concerned, the splash page should be a picture of Statesman being beaten down by the rest of the Freedom Phalanx. Each of them would be hitting him with copies of the Champions Online game in its original packaging.

Someone (Manticore, possibly) would be shouting, "Champions? We'll show you Champions, beeyotch!"

And exactly WHERE would that be held in Port Oakes?
  13. People spake thusly:

    Quote:

I suggest fighting a few mobs to get a Tip mission and roll with that.

If you want to stay heroside, gather up tips and run tip missions there. Your only option on these tip missions will be the hero option, and actually a lot of the missions are tailored for rogues turning hero specifically
Did NO ONE read what I wrote? I'm not asking what to do with my character!!!

I know "what there is to do." What I'm saying is that there's nothing for a ROGUE to do who wants to stay Rogue. Not every villain is the hardcore villain type just like not every hero is Captain Whitebread who wouldn't kill a fly. I'm playing the "Going Rogue" expansion, not the "Going Hero" expansion.

If you're going to have four alignments in the game, have content for all four alignments. That's ALL I'm saying. If the ONLY content is for heroes and villains, you might as well just have the characters flip directly from hero to villain and back again with nothing in between. Anything else is a waste of time.

I am SORELY disappointed at the fact there was no effort to make content for that "gray area" between hero and villain. This is where the bad guys get shoved off buildings because the "hero" wants to watch them plummet to their deaths...or the good guys get beaten to a pulp, but then the "villain" walks away and let's them live. It's SO rich in possibility and it's so sad to see absolutely nothing done with it. Had I known there was "NO" rogue/vigilante content at all, I would very possibly not have purchased Going Rogue.

    That's all I'm saying.
  14. I finally got around to getting one of my redside characters to Rogue status. He entered Paragon City. Now what?

I have no contacts and no content for this rogue. I got a police scanner, so I can do hero missions on that, but my character ISN'T a hero. He's a rogue! I was expecting a contact to sneak me a message when I hit blueside, and to have some missions to the seedy underbelly of Statesman's utopia we call Paragon City, to be able to make more contacts and open more content.

If there isn't any content for a character who switches sides (rogue content in Paragon and vigilante content in the Isles), why bother calling it "Going Rogue" at all? It could have been more correctly called, "City of Heroes: Praetoria," and just have the alignment system as an afterthought.

Devs... If you're going to name a game suppliment "Going Rogue," you should definitely have something for the rogues to do when they "go there."

I rest my case (which is good, 'cause I'm old and my case needs lots of rest).

  17. Well, here comes part two. Click on the thumbnail pics to enlarge.

Imagine Homer Simpson getting super powers from working at the nuclear power plant and you'd pretty much have...ATOMIC DENSITY.

The search for gender equality produced...WOMANTICORE.

A geeky, smart-alecky kid suddenly finds himself with super powers. He gets several different costumes to emulate his favorite heroes/groups. In order to have "THE BEST SUPERHERO NAME EVER(tm)" he becomes Super Mega Ultra Guy, but those who know him call him...SMUG.

    Music to Rp to

When I'm RPing my main, Liberty Eagle, I sometimes play this:

    The LIBERTY EAGLE MARCH

Yes, Eagle has his very own march.
  19. Well, in addition to transportation, we used to have badge runs, where a Taxibot would be right next to each exploration badge site in a zone. We'd take folks through the tour, with each Taxi telling the people a bit about the badge they just received, as they were ported to each site in order, then back to the gate or monorail station at the end of the tour.

There are lots of things Taxibots can do other than the "big three" of transportation, healing, and rez.

    BY THE WAY...

If anyone does want to create a new Taxibot character, make a robotic-appearing character with the preferred name format of "Taxibot #" where # is the number of your choosing, usually a one or two digit number. You will need to have the "checker" pattern on the torso, arms, and legs. If you want to hide the pattern, make each of the body parts one color, and you can show the checkers only when you go into SG mode and your bot takes on the standard Taxibot black and yellow color scheme.

Hey, it's time we got the band back together! It's been tough, looking through the help wanted ads for all this time. There's just not been a lot of work for a bunch of hacks...until now.

  21. Well, if the character is a classic old-school hero style character, check the link in my .sig for the Golden Age Heroes SGs. We have a good coalition also, so one group or another almost always has something going on.

    Best of luck!
  22. Ohh Emm Gee, let me see if I can hit a few of the high(low) points. Click on the images to see the larger versions...if you have the nerve.

Jim Earl was a trailer-livin good ol' boy who wanted to be a hero to his son. After a few too many beers, and falling asleep in front of WAY too many rented chop-socky ninja movies, he put on his black sweat pants and red tennis shoes, his old karate gi from the free lesson he took a few years ago (sleeves cut off, of course) complete with the white belt, his bright red CAT Diesel hat (put on backwards) and the katana he bought at the flea market, which he previously used as a wedge to keep his closet door closed. He burst onto the scene with a confident, "Back off, folks! Ah'm a ninjer!"

He was an old man, bitter and alone. His combover was the most colorful thing about him...until... He found an ornately carved box in a back corner of an antique shop. When he opened the box, it contained an enormously expensive hand made hairpiece. It was as if it was calling to him. He HAD to have it. Purchasing the box (and hairpiece), he took it home and put on the hairpiece. Suddenly, the hairpiece turned blood red and glowed with an uneartly energy. The old man found he could control and generate fire from his body. Now...they would all be sorry...all those who ignored him or made fun of him over the years. Now there would be...HELL TOUPE'! (The character still exists, parked redside.)

The kid was a comic geek and general failure at having any type of social life. He was also as absent minded as the day is long and generally totally immune to any form of common sense. One day, he had just bought a candy bar at a local convenience store. His mind being elsewhere, he didn't even care what brand he got. He opened it and took a bite without thinking, as he looked at the contents of the store's magazine rack. Just as he swallowed the first bite of chocolate, an armed man burst into the store. As the man confronted the clerk and demanded money, the kid's adrenaline hit the ceiling and his latent mutation kicked in. (Powersets not decided on. You choose.) He quickly and almost effortlessly subdued the armed robber. Realizing the candy bar that gave him his powers must have been magic (told you he had no common sense), he was overjoyed. He decided to take his hero name from the candy bar which had given him his powers, so whoever enchanted it would know who he was and come for him, to give him his additional training and such. He went right down to Hero Registration and became the newest hero in Paragon City. He was...spunoW! (Yeah, he was holding a regular Mounds bar upside down and didn't realize it.)

There are more, but I have to stop for now. Be thankful of your good fortune.
  23. Specifically, does anyone have any old posts archived or screenies having to do with the CuppaCloning Costume Contest? One of my characters won, and I'm trying to get a copy of any media that might still exist regarding the finals of the contest.

    Many thanks!
