My katana/wp is all about ENFC defense, and S/L resistance.
Some low level ST melee and pounding slugfest both provide 1.25% to E/N. I think it's Erad that gives 3% to the same. You need to get your resistance powers slotted with three Aegis to get your F/C. I can't remember the others, and I think it's increased perception...I can't remember the names of the powers, one that gives ENFC def.
S/L resistance is out of the box. -
When leveling, DA is an ASAP. If you're not getting DA [or Parry in BS] don't bother taking Katana.
And, as others have said, once you are capped, there's no reason to have a tool that, starting at level...I think 10...can get you to the cap on melee/lethal.
I have a quote I kept [I keep lots of crap.] This is what made me make a katana/wp.
Quote:Oh yeah, I suggest you make a katana/wp. Slot DA as an attack and spam it along with The Lotus Drops and Flashing Steel and mobs will melt. You will level very quickly, and not die much. Fire would also be a good primary and kill stuff faster but have much less mitigation.
- Davemebs on what is a good solo
I disagree slightly as I think DA should be slotted for def, rech, and damage, in that order. Also you need to throw in the proc from that set with the guy with the hat.
-
Katana/anything will not feel stiff, as with Katana you should spam the heck out of Divine Avalanche to get your melee and lethal def past the cap. Only ranged exotic damage will eat at you. Carry a few def and acc insp to pop before bad craziness and your team will see you for the god you are.
Now, building off that, WP will get your healing faster than you can get from IO set bonuses. You get a second Stamina in Quick Response, and actually QR is better. They both happen at 20. You'll get the S/L resistance you'd expect. I think my cheapo plan has it around 50%. My ENFC def is around 36% with S/L 21%. It looks hokey, but works quite well with the ridiculous melee/L you can generate off your katana.
SR, and I'm planning on making one but have not done so before, is about positional defense. I love defense based things. Plus SR has lots of auto. Or lots of useful auto. If you slot it right, you'll never get hit, ever [5% in theory]. But it's the katana's DA that will do the lion's share of the work through your career.
I picked /wp because I never wanted to worry about end problems again. I run seven toggles at level 39 and even attacking as fast as possible, I always come out of a fight with full end and health. Or, I faceplant due to the Mu, Spectral Demon Lord [I think], or Shamen.
Make sure to monitor your melee def, if one of those enemies is around it might drop from 60% [yes, 15% over cap] to -30% in one second. In that case, RUN! Well, actually no, you'll die. -
Edited to add:
The 1b benchmark is what it is. Those today don't think of it as epic, but from ground zero it takes a while. Sure, flipping a purple a few times, or once, can get you a bil pretty quick. By someone with 43k can't do that yet.
[edited to change months to weeks, sheesh]
It took me around 3 weeks to go from having 10m total on all my toons to 1b each on two that I decided to try to do that. Ten million was tons to me. I freaked out when a farmer gave me 30m one day when he found out how little I had. I had never slotted anything but SOs and considered them expensive.
1b is a good amount to get a good, nearly capped, build going. I just did a Ma/Inv scrapper for 700m.
A billion proves you know marketing to some extent and spent time doing it. If a first grader comes up to you and shows you they made a 100 on a spelling test, do you say, "So? Geez, these words are nothing. I don't even know why they have first grade anymore."
Quote:Ooh, I like this.So who wants to start the Iron Man Screenshot club? Show a screenshot where you're burning a billion in market fees. Selling, buying, whatever.
I would find it Veeery impressive if I saw a screenshot of someone buying a salvage that sells for about 10 inf for 2b.
1. Why do people even list something that sells for 10 inf?
2. How would the person collect the money if they already had funds in hand? -
Quote:Me either.I feel like I ought to post something but I just don't know what to say.
And not just the inaccuracy of the info, but that it's all just being considered "our opinion" when we tell them how it works.
An aside:
I have a rule for myself. If there are no bids, always bid one first. I've picked up half a set of posi's doing that. Yes, you posting at 1 is a good thing. It saves lots of money...not yours though. -
You might be a member, but you can't get into the club without proper ID [with tophat, English monocle, and tea emote].
congrats. -

Quote:Mine's at 24. I was really hoping to get her over 25 for Ouro.It would be ok with my...My Fire/Rad that I created for this project has been stuck at 15-18 (cant really remember) because I wont run her for any other reason.
She has been stuck at the SC WW just buying up and vendoring receipes... so far she is up to 60 million.
It has been every slow over the last month or so with so many other things going on, so anything that can get this going would be fine with me.
Tonight I'd like to run contacts, or maybe get the rest of that Atlas accolade done...what level are those Warwolves in Striga? Or whatever anyone else wants to do. -
Very cool. CG.
This weekend was crazy. If it stays this stupid, I'm going to have one toon that does nothing but flip Demonic BS. -
Well, talking probablility is not my bag, really, so another will come to correct me if I'm wrong.
First, obviously, by slotting the second proc the chances of both firing at the same time goes from a zero chance to something. And while I don't know the exact percentage, it's kinda close to if you rolled two five sided dies and you got snake-eyes. Each will fire at 20%, but those fifths will not coincide except less than 1/25, <4%, if I remember correctly.
Procs work. But statistics are against you if you want grouping. Even if you put six procs in a power, the chances of it having over two go off at any one time are [-pulling number out of my rear-] less than around 30%.
Geez, I wish I remembered how to do this math.
But, a proc is a proc is a proc. Pick up some of the black sheep like Entropic %Heal. There's also a kb %rech which I've been wanting to try, but can't see how 5 sec of 100% rech boost would be noticable. And for those who say that the Entropic heal isn't noticable, not each one. It's more a "Which raindrop caused the flood" thing.
[And definately, someone tell me if I'm full of crap.]
[Some edits] -
Here's me saying what everyone else said just for validation purposes.
1. Our trial isn't the coolest thing out there. Capping at 14 leaves out some wonderful powers. Capping at 50k is pointless, cap them at 2. Fifty-thousand is nothing in this game.
2. Justice is a wasteland compared to Freedom or Virtue. It's easy to find people in the wasteland, but you need to know how. As a Trial, you don't have the ability to find them. Go to Freedom. [see note below]
3. While it's fun to just blame your hardware for chop when you get near a group of people, due to it having to load all the capes and faces and whatnot, see how tight your virus stuff is. I've never had a problem with CoH that wasn't caused by security software. [Except my Nvidia makes the sinister shoulderpads 8 inches behind my gals.]
Welcome to CoH.
[Note re:Freedom and Trial.
One of the things unique about Freedom is the mental climate in Atlas Park. Virtue is getting as bad, or worse due to the RP, but the Broadcast Spamming is horrible there. No spam in the traditional sense, but people who love their own words will have chats with others or their ilk using the broadcast channel.
You can ingore these people, even give them bad ratings [stars that float over their heads], or, as I'd advise, get out of Atlas ASAP. Once you're at or near level ten, get into SC and get on a team.
But there's the problem. With Trial you can't use Find to find people on teams to see if there is room for you since that requires a tel. At the right time, you might be able to get onto a team by doing a broadcast "LFT", but even if you hear a team shouting "LFM PST" you cant' send that tel.
That said, the SC in Freedom has about 20x the people of the Atlas Park of Justice. And I got nothing against the small town servers, I got my 50 on Liberty. But, really, if you're doing a trial, I'd go for high populations due to the communication crippling. And for small town, I really recommend Champion or Triumph.]
Oh, and katana/wp ftw. -
Yeah, I know. I posted it. It's at least 1 billion without a single purple. Plus, it hits 55% S/L with no room for any other defense. Well, maybe, I didn't even pick all the powers out, only those I could slot for s/l def.
I didn't say that defense diversification was a good idea, since it should be assumed. It's easy to pick up E/N and F/C protection if you know what to look for. A pure blaster would be all about rech/regen/recovery.
If you can get ENFC into the 20% that's good. I've seen some crazier builds.
I can attest that Ritki, the Mu of Arachnos, and Panished Pantheon are a giant pain if you're relying on S/L. I have a katana that will get creamed at times. It's either survive like a god or go down down down.
My idea for a blap, shoot for being a tank with range as a backup. But most important, take tough/weave/ice armor.
Or, claws has two 40 foot range attacks. Focus and something. -
To have a good blapper, in my opinion, you'll have to be tough. You want Weave and Manuvers by 24, right after Stamina. Take all ST melee attacks in your secondary [Brawl, Havoc, and Shocking] and blow the 150m you need on KC, leave off the proc. If you can't afford that, take Haymaker, but that's really not going to get you there unless you can get some sets from the slows, etc. In your build up powers, Aim at level 8 and Build Up at level 16, you'll want to slot two Rectified Reticles. That may get you capped.
You will not be a god untill you get your Ice Armor. Sorry to ruin your costume, but you gotta be an icy electric^2 god to be a god.
Here's my attempt at making a ridiculous over-the-softcap blaster. You don't want to go this far, since it's around 55% S/L. But, you have a whole 10% you can shop out. That might be enough to change those KC sets to Haymakers. A difference of roughly 148m per set.

With the wild assumption that puggies are inexperienced, sometimes flash is better than substance. Fire/ blasters have flash and substance. An /electric tank has the groovy looks. Stone/ controllers have the big flash too. But, dang, that crap is loud in my headphones.
You really want them to think you're a god? Katana/ or BS/. Maybe throw shield in there. Take a purple and CJ into the middle of a spawn.
Also, anything that causes KU on 5+ enemies is good. Slot acc, acc, acc.
I think healers are overrated/not fun to play. And everyone loves a SB vending machine, so /kin is there IFF the leader knows what their recruiting. No one ever notices AM. -
Of course, anyone who tries a blaster def cap has to pick ice mastery, get weave, slot rectified reticule in the build ups, and hit the KC.
But I wanted this cheap and not crippled.
Here it is for your slice-and-dice criticism:

I can think of one man who can help you. But, bear in mind what you ask for is a service. Expect the 10% that you'd see with WW at least. [Not that WW/BM can cross the blue/red boundary, but that's the point.]
If I had any interest in Villains, I'd do it. -
IN that case, I want a Water Blast/8-bit Graphic Manipulation blaster. I'd take Petroleum Mastery as an ancillary.

Quote:Ok, according to the schedule, it's Sister Psyche. I believe my gal is over lev 20. If not, close enough I can hustle around a little before then and get her up there.Every Task Force Tuesday, a different Task Force is run. It could be the Sister Psyche Force one week, and the Moonfire Task Force next. In any case, the specific Task Force is advertised in advance in both the forums and BMT of Champion global channel, and we meet up at the contact for that particular Task Force.
Cool, I've not done SPTF [if that's the appreviation.] -
Hi,
I've read some of this thread and I can't seem to see where you guys meet. I do TT on Champion and we have a fixed meet place [KR at IP gate].
The TFT sounds great. I like scheduled events and I'll look up what my, I think maybe 20 [not my main toon], tank can go on.
Very cool. Glad I visited the Champion Forum. Generally I just look at the AT and Marketing ones. -
I like vanilla.
You do everything wrong and are intolerant.
