  1. I'll throw in my agreement with fire/ice blaster and fire/rad controller. I also dig ill/storm but it's almost as much a chaos machine as an energy^2 blaster.

katana/anything and anything/wp are good. Anything/wp is especially good when the anything is an endurance pig. But with something light like katana, or as mentioned above,Claws, you can run all 11 toggles that you desire.

I see where the katana/fire and /elec is being pointed out, but /dark should not be ignored.
  2. When you find a set you liked on paper that is too expensive, either remember it or jot it down as such. You'll get used to it after a while.

If you're low level and frankenslotting, this gets easy since you're not going for bonuses. You can just buy mele A/D from whatever.

Eventually you'll learn little combos that work, like in PBAoE to get EN def, first three of the first set, 2, 4, and 5 of the second gets you nearly 5% to each. And Cheeeep and good stats too.

Best answer, it takes a while to learn. When you've slotted Kinetic Combat in four powers and you think it's too expensive, switch them to Haymaker and cry that it's only half the melee bonus, but that's life.

Stick with mids. Most people don't use it and if you IO, especially at midlevel, you'll really stand out.
  3. Download Mids ftw.

edit: Oh if you mean you can't find them on the market...then they aren't on the market.
  4. I don't know you, but you take care. Try not to get too down/frustrated with all the down time.

    Yes, Saltier.

    4. Saltier is the planned toon until my Broadsword is high enough. Maybe two or three more TFs for Salty.

    This is bad

That's not so bad. THIS is bad.

    Question?

Only thing I'd say about respeccing is, first, you have a second build you can use, but the enhancements you've slotted in the first can't move to it. And second, get Stamina at 20. If you do Positron TF and don't have it, well, actually, you've survived to 28 without it. So, maybe, nevermind.

Excellent description. I'll add, re Freedom's no character, it's more like having so much diversity that you can't see each individual tree because theirs a forest blocking your view. But, the ones near you, those people are people. But you'll probably never meet them again [actually, this is what notes are for.]
  9. Blasters and Scrappers are allowed to be stupid. It's part of their AT. It's their teir 0. And I say this as both, but mostly I'm a scrapper.

But as a fire blaster, I totally understand that unless half the team is tanks, I'm going to get dudes running at me. If I get a great tank, and I never expect one, they'll see it and pull them off me with taunt. Had that last night. Amazing team. A defender, a tank, and the rest damage-idiots.

I faceplanted four times as a AoE crazy fire blaster.

As for rushing ahead, my katana/wp can't die, ever, at all, as long as I spam DA, which I do. I'll jump a spawn ahead sometimes if the team kills really fast. I'm not a tank. I don't have tank responsibilities or the ability to really, firmly, hold that aggro, but I can take the alpha at full health, with a purple or two I can take it at nearly zero health, but I've never seen that on the DA spamming katnana.

    Wait...what was my point?
  10. I don't have a build like that, so I'm throwing this stuff together.

note: TOTALLY IN THE WRONG ORDER, TOTALLY, TOTALLY

You can't get capped without ice epic, but with the ice/energy/elec you wanted here's going for cappy type range. I wouldn't do this one.

This next one is for recharge and just has the barest of bare slotting to get the recharge. There wern't enough slots for my rabid sloppiness so EMP is just plain not slotted. But you do get 71% rech with Hasten off, 141 with it on and it's down only 12 seconds between cycles. This is a mess though, and should be viewed as a rough dreaft of a thought.

Oh, and both are pretty cheap. The second is cheap as dirt.
  11. I just 50ed a katana/wp and I've started a BS/SR...this makes me think that the next of my sword people should be a katana/electric.

Edited to ask: In the electric secondary, skip nothing?

Actually, it sounds really interesting. I'd have to think about this.

    Re: Blappers
Good blappers are good. Bad Blappers are all over the place. When we have one, I keep compining three to rez and saying, "I'm going to start charging you for these things" as I hand them to his faceplanted body. All the good ones I've seen have had an energy secondary with either arch [which I don't understand why this would help at all] or energy as a primary.
  13. I could care less.

    [just thought I'd chime in.]

Though, I know there are places where the fire burns. The joke is that for the damage badges just stand there for a few hours.
  14. Virtue is full of cat women and perverts, but I repeat myself. [no no, just had to pick one server and at least it's true on Virtue.]

I didn't notice any difference between Liberty, my first, and Freedom. Really, at all, besides population density.

Virtue though is different, and it's my secondary server. I like it, but get too many RPers in a room, and I get weirded out. [Check out the blue side lounge in Pocket-D for some Pocket-Embarrassment.]
  15. Titan horns, the winged Valkyrie shoulders, Witch Wing gloves and boots, bat wings. If it's a girl.

Not sure what pointy bits are available to make a unique outline for guys, but I'd go huge, even if you're shrinking him down to a near normal physique.

    Or whatever.
  16. Some set IOs are cheaper than the generics. Though generics is always better than just DOs or SOs. I've had every one of my SOs burn out at the beginning of a TF before. I had to limp-noodle around in slow motion the rest of it.

One thing I've never done, and it might be legit, is to start slotting the sets I'm planning on keeping as soon as that set becomes available, then upgrade. I'm talking cheap stuff here, and looking for defense bonuses on an /SR scrapper actually. Multi-Strikes start at 20 and are insultingly cheap. I was actually offended that I got two triples for 1 inf each. Well, it was cool too.

Despite everything we say, you'll be able to make your toon the way you like it just fine.

"Role" is not synonymous with "AT". An AR blaster can buff the team. An AR blaster can tank. You see, in this game, tank is both a noun and a verb. The person 'tanking' doesn't have a BE a tank.
Since you decided to jump on me, I thought I'd respond and fix your ATs up there a little so it makes my point.

    Lighten up, Francis.

You know, I was thinking about it. It's been months since I've met anyone that was a jerk besides Quills spammers, who I'm sure 50% are not actual jerks. Most people are nice and nearly that many know how to play the game.

I don't consider a person with a suggestive or lewd name to be a jerk, though maybe I should. I've only seen racists on Liberty, and only once in 18 months.
  19. Yep, Salty is the plan.

[Though I'm tempted to take my new BS/SR, but she's really low and the slots just suck.]
  20. Well, cause everyone else is throwing out builds, this is what I'm planning on working toward with mine.

The first build has Vengeance, Hasten only down for 18 seconds, and 126% rech in that time that's not the 18 seconds. Also, it's dirt cheap.

This one is capped and still moderately cheap as dirt. And yes, in a build with KC I still have my old pal Entropics. I can't pass up the rech and regen in only five. Though I admit the proc is a joke.

There is no Hasten in this build.

  21. Looking at it:
    • Ice - Take everything.
    • Energy - It depends. The melee and the boost range are the two reasons to take Energy. Your forced into your basic kb mitigation tool. Bone smasher is good through the game until you get to Total Focus. Which pretty much forces you into the blapper role. I find Conserve Power and Stun to be passable, and would say the same for Power Boost, but that might totally rock with Ice. Boost range with a snipe slotted for range is just stupid crazy. You can shoot further than you can see.
Energy has enough melee, and ice epic has a defense armor, so you can hit the S/L cap. That's why everyone talks about it, because you can. A freakish blaster that can just stand there and take it, and also with melee, and with this ice, hold people.

To find things with search, you need to search for words that only occur in each powerset. "bitter total" might do it. Somewhat...only 7 threads with ice/energy listed in the title using that.

I'd say read up on ice, read up on energy. Get mids out and play. Once you post a build, people will come out of the woodwork becuase, I think, it has some synergy possibilities. But, as before, no one will comment on what isn't there to comment on.
  22. Usually if you do a good job, things get quiet. Also, Local already showed you an IO setup. If you're only going SO, you just need to plug in what you want since you aren't going for bonuses. Not IOing is a mistake on a toon you like in my opinion, but that's my opinion.

I build ghosts. Either SS or Stealth and the IO, get Rec Friend. Lately I've just been keeping a phase temp power handy and running fast and furious if I need to skip a section, though this is not a true ghost.

Edited to add: Just cranked out a quick version of what I'd do. This probably has errors on the 5 limit and I didn't feel like hunting down the one slot I didn't use. Most of your powers are just flipped so they're still there, but I did change some. My build has no real direction besides recharge and putting some defense when I can't get that.

  23. You might want to post a build. Otherwise just search for one if you don't want any personalization in it.

I was going to wait until I'd read everything here, but this is wrong.

I've been on teams where an AR blaster [and it's always an AR blaster] thinks they're the tank. I've been on teams where the Tank thinks they're a scrapper. Defenders as blasters. Controllers as scrappers.

    Know your role.

As I, who sometimes plays a fire blaster, needs a tank with taunt to do my best work. I can dish it out, but I can't take it. That's my role. Aggroing half the earth with AoE is an issue if I don't have anyone to help me, and I will aggro half the earth.

Taunt is a very good tool for a tank. Only thing better is holds or mucho killer debuffs. Best is all.

I reccomend Freedom server, which people from smaller servers will bash in just a moment. It has a high population and you can get on a team on trial by putting "On Trial. Blinds OK." in your search/team text.

Unfortunately if you're limited to level 15, you won't see any much higher level. You'd die walking down the street in Talos, my favorite area as most of the conveniences are right around the same area. Atlas, SC, Talos, and PI have the highest populations out there.

Remember though, when doing a /whoall you can't see those on missions, and most of this is missions.

Sorry our trial sucks so bad. Level 15 is so low and I think you can only have 50k inf. You can buy exactly squat with 50k inf.

As for active SGs, mine's a marketing SG, but some of us do stuff together. If you have a Fire/Rad controller show up on the dirt hill in Talos [there are no bad guys up there] at 8pm central on Monday. Also, look at the server forum for Freedom. The Freedom Hoard is always running something. Less than 15 you are pretty much only running the two Positron Task Forces.

When way low, stand outside the sewers in Atlas. Just use local, I think that's all you can, and ask the gathering people to be on their team. Tell them you're on trial, they might treat you nice. I don't know how you'd get on a team in the Hollows or SC. You could always go to the mission room in AE if you want someone to bring you along for company on some farming mission. No one uses AE for what it was intended anymore.

And please, don't judge any server on how their Atlas Park is.

    Good to have you.
