Quote:Except that I've said three or four times now that it's legitimate to decline their request for whatever reason. Again, what I am challenging is anyone's assertion that automatically declining their request is good.Jokes aside, where you go wrong is that your posts in this thread have all assumed that someone who declines people who send them tells is exhibiting a character flaw.

I fail to see how that is a character flaw?Because it's all about you, right?
Haha and Bosstone is up for it too. This sort of undermines your point, fellows. -
Since everyone is so deeply offended that I used a real thing instead of a fake thing, it has now been amended to be a fake thing. Feel free to instead focus on my point, which was that there's no reason to become a virtual recluse in city of heroes, unless you happen to have incredible spider powers.

I think you'll find I never advised anyone to spend a single penny at a psychologist.

Quote:Because more than one of 'em shared the great tip of sticking in /hide mode 100% of the time so that they would never again have to encounter anyone who isn't in their global list already. Why are you assuming the people who've responded to this thread only solo and hate teaming? You're more biased than they are.
Nalrok, if your mind is blown by someone using the name of an actual thing from DSM-IV, I think you need thicker skin. Then again, isn't that the story of the thread? -
Surely it's more reasonable to try new things on occasion than it is to simply dig yourself into a bunker and assume the war's still going on years later? What exactly are you putting on the line by inviting some random guy to join you? As I said, I do it all the time and as far as I know it has never caused me any harm, material or otherwise. Compare that to putting yourself on /hide so nobody will ever be able to send you an invite or tell. How is that going to improve your experience in the game? Again, we're all free to do whatever weirdo things we want, obviously, but barricading your door and cutting your phone line so that nobody can break into your house and change your TV stations... uhhhh, sure. That's a reasonable position, then?

That's one way to look at it seebs, but the way I see it is that on a meleer, well, if I'm not surrounded by dudes most of the time I am doing something wrong. Thus, a damage aura is an attractive place to put at least one proc since it doesn't require any animation time on your part to frequently dish out a bit of bonus damage.
-
This particular beehive seems to have major issues understanding the difference between "I think some of you people should try teaming now and again because it looks like you never have before" and "I think none of you should ever be allowed to solo again."
-
Having two procs in lightning field has an additive effect in the same way that having two performance shifter procs in two different passives does. You won't be able to always count on one of them happening but they will both deliver their full effect without any regard for the diminishing returns you get from enhancing the damage of the power. If you can get 95% damage enhancement into lightning field in four slots, in other words, adding the first proc will be just as beneficial as adding the second proc to the last two slots.

I'd find that much easier to believe had the topic not been "best ways to avoid as many people as possible" before I ruined everything with my uncouth demands that everyone always team with everyone.

Damn, too many quotes for multiquote to handle. Good work, everyone.

... I'm all for being inclusive on principle, but not all characters are equally suited for random teaming and I don't think it's a bad thing to recognize that and respond to invites and teaming requests with it in mind.

(IMO "Because I want to solo" is just as valid as "because I'm AFK with RL stuff most of the time"; you have no obligation to team with anyone in particular, ever.)
Quote:Yeah, ok, I'll do this if you promise that next time you're in your flat watching TV alone and some random stranger calls at your door and says 'Hey, hi, can i come watch TV with you?" you'll go "Well, sure, come in! But yeah, there's my sofa, make yourself at home!"

Did you guys know there's a button you can press to remove someone from a team you're leading if you take exception to their behavior? -
All procs, now, have one chance to proc every ten seconds in any type of toggle or rain power, damage auras included. For the proc to happen, the relevant tic has to hit and the proc has to succeed as well, similar to any other attack. Opinion varies, and of course it depends on what sort of character you're building, but for something like TW/ELA I absolutely feel that at least one proc in the aura is nice to have. I don't know the exact DPS value of a proc compared to damage slotting but my feeling is that having the proc built into six slotted oblit is a nice bonus, and if you're frankenslotting the aura then four slots of damage, accuracy and endurance enhancement are nicely topped off by the proc of your choice.
-
Er yeah, it has better DPA than archery, which has reduced DPA to account for its reduced recharge and endurance costs (not a good trade if you ask me), and elec, a set that has deserved a buff for an unforunately large number of years. I assumed that you were using the actual crab powers because unlike the soldier powers those do not have redraw which you also have to factor into your DPS calculation. I don't know what ring of fire has to do with this. Much like sonic, beam rifle will also pull ahead due to its high DPA coupled with its debuffs.
-
That was the original premise but then the rest of the thread became a melodic chorus of general disdain for those who ask for an invite rather than waiting to get one. You can solo all you want and far be it from me to tell you not to. On that note the reason you might want to reconsider that stance is that the fun you'd have with a helper could outweigh the vindication you feel in smacking down all requests to team, one after another, with ruthless efficiency.
-
How is that guy supposed to know that you hate teaming unless he asks? I hope you have yourself set to "decline invites" with a warning in the search comment field because otherwise this level of indignation would look awfully irrational!
-
Here's a wacky idea, if someone sends a tell asking to join up with you, why not invite them? You were soloing and now you're teamed. Do you really care about their grammar skills or presumption? Do you feel that a random lowbie is an unconscionable burden upon your shoulders? If you're just taking it easy and soloing while you do something else you could say "I'm taking it easy and soloing while I do something else. Still want to join?" They might.
I almost always invite anyone who asks because if nothing else it's nice to have an audience for my badass spawn shredding. -
Quote:Unless you're counting all of the pets, this isn't even close to right. Crab single target DPA is abysmal with their one saving grace being access to gloom. One good DPA power does not make up for the fact that you need to fill in the gaps with at least two bad DPA powers.I'd love to know what these are as well. My Crab does more single target damage at range Than anything but a fire blaster, Sonic or possibly a procced out Ice blaster.
If you are counting the pets, good luck doing that single target damage when there's more than a single target near you. -
The only tanker I've ever gotten to 50 (also, the only one I've gotten past 20) is Ice/Axe. This was long before proliferation so the thinking was "I've played basically every scrapper, now how about the scrappiest tanker currently available?" It was pretty successful at that but I still found the damage frustratingly low and shelved it. Very sturdy though, and good aoe. Today, war mace is unquestionably superior to axe in every way apart, perhaps, from your concept. The new sets are better than either of them, though. Titan weapons and kinetic melee would go especially well with ice armor, but martial arts would be no slouch either. With titan weapons, you can even have an axe if you want to!

I don't even bother playing the market and I have more influence than I can realistically use. Step one: make a new character. Step two, do arcs starting from level 1, reinforce your alignment at level 20, do arcs, do SSAs, maybe do a TF. Step three: at level 30, either put the character on hold or turn exp off and continue to do the above activities. Roll your hero or villain merits for level 30-34 recipes. Step four: use what you need, sell what you don't, end up with a massive profit. This almost guarantees that any new character you make will put you into the black, rather than being an influence sink for your highbies.
If I wanted to make even more inf than that I would run through my 50s once a week doing the SSA for a hero merit, or two SSAs for a hero merit and reward merit. Also, I would go through all of my old 50s and run all of the SSAs once plus two bonus ones. That's an untapped several billion influence right there. -
A couple things at a glance: You only need at most two endmod and the performance shifter in stamina, but honestly on an EA brute I wouldn't bother with the performance shifter at high levels. Power sink eclipses it and then some, even against a lone AV.
In general you heavily overslot accuracy in my opinion. For example, the acc common in follow through could instead be an acc/dam/rech, or better a dam/end/rech or mako's quad. Same goes for the two acc/rech you have in whirling smash - it isn't an inaccurate power and a lot of that accuracy is made even more redundant by all the global acc you have. You might be able to reliably hit +5s but currently at level 50 there aren't any, heh.
On the subject of accuracy, it's a mistake to put all of GSFC into build up. The proc will hardly ever occur, the values aren't very good for that type of power, and you're already taking energy mastery. Why not take focused accuracy and slot it in that? That would allow you to really free up a lot of slots in other powers, take and adequately slot build momentum anyway, and the endurance cost is offset by the fact that you have superior conditioning on top of power sink.
Which alpha do you plan to use? Spiritual would really be overkill on this build, you already have loads of recharge for the sets involved. Musculature on a brute, ehhh not so sure about that. I don't really know what the new ones are like but if you went cardiac you could also save slots that are currently devoted to endurance management.
Err, and obviously by power sink I meant energy drain. -
Because one thing to think about is more than zero things to think about by an indefinite degree.

One of the things I like about EA on scrappers is that the stealth is effectively just a bonus. You don't give anything up for it, so you might as well look at it as though you don't even have stealth, except that a lot of the time you do. It goes surprisingly well with an aggro aura - without teammate interference, you can pick off the sybils on the ITF without the main spawns in a room even knowing you're there, yet the hostage-keepers won't run away from you. Intriguing!

I'm not sure disliking WP is a good reason for others to ignore one's opinion about WP. It's a boring set. SJ gives you enough leeway that you're going to miss it if your secondary doesn't provide anything else to do. If AF_Bill wanted to pair something with titan weapons, on the other hand, WP would be a better choice since TW puts plenty on your to-do list all by itself.
SJ/Anything is not going to feel overactive by comparison, thus it seems perfectly reasonable to suggest spicier secondaries, no? -
I can confirm that you are coming off in rather poor light here. You seem deeply invested in some bizarre concept of "zone fairness," heroes have more zones therefore they must PAY for what they have done to you!
That is insane. It's also not how the game has ever worked, including now. Guess what? The shard is going to be coop zones, this has been foreshadowed for several actual years now, and no quantity of tears can reverse the inevitable at this point. -
WP is effectively identical for brutes and scrappers. The only advantage for brutes is that they get slightly more HP. This results in slightly more regen. Wowie.
However! I would suggest to you that SJ is not so busy a primary that you couldn't stand a secondary that is itself a little more active. Energy aura, for example, is a very apt pairing for SJ since it was revamped. It isn't that WP would be a bad option, I just think EA is a little more versatile, now. Other good secondaries include, well, SJ pretty much goes with anything. EA and probably ELA match it especially nicely however.
