  1. Woop, my brain fell out apparently. Since you cannot skip defensive sweep, my vote is to take the other attacks and just leave DS as a set mule. Three pieces of eradication is 3.125% e/n defense, a fourth piece adds 2.25% HP. You can even put a lotg global in there. Those slotting opportunities would honestly be worth taking and not using the power for even if it weren't mandatory that you do so.
  2. With invuln you want to softcap yourself to various types, so defensive sweep's positional bonus becomes pretty redundant sooner or later. Ironically, the sets it takes make it useful as a mule for typed defense bonuses even if you never use the power. The only other skippable attack in my opinion is crushing blow, which I wouldn't skip because it's one of the three single target attacks you ever get. I've heard others talk about skipping titan sweep: not something I would do but if it were between that, whirling smash and arc of destruction, well, that's a no-brainer.

    TW or StJ?

Okay so when I say sustainable, what I mean is capable of fighting indefinitely with no outside assistance. Inspirations count as outside assistance because you can run out of them if the fight is long enough and it's just one target so no more are dropping, for example. The thing about sustainability is that it's almost an academic issue because situations where there's no remedy at all for endurance problems are vanishingly rare. The reason I brought it up in the first place is that some people do care, and those people are more commonly known as scrapper forum posters.

What I do not mean when I say it is hard for some secondaries to be sustainable with TW on their own is that it is hard for them to be adequate, or to have enough endurance in most situations. That you can totally do. I myself have done that and I love the results. I'm not saying you can't do just fine, I'm saying you may not be able to fire your attacks as fast as they recharge forever in a vacuum.

Now if you're saying that your TW/DA is completely endurance sustainable without cardiac and without ageless, my response is I'd like to see that build because I don't know how you get good end reduction slotting out of the set's expensive but crucial aoes while still using the best available sets, which are obliteration and eradication, plus armageddon at 50. Those first two barely reduce endurance cost at all and must be supplemented with scirocco's dervish or multi-strike for that, except that if you're using oblits you're six slotting them and if you're using erads you're probably four slotting them. Not a heck of a lot of room for improvement, wouldn't you agree? What you could do is slot four erads and a generic endurance but that isn't really how I tend to do things, personally. Armageddon is pretty decent for endurance, but I didn't find the space for it in my reckless pursuit of defense bonuses.

In any case, I say again that titan weapons is a totally playable set with whatever secondary you want, but some of them will have endurance issues relative to other primary combinations because titan weapons objectively costs more endurance when running its better chains than most other primaries.

You really seem to be spoiling for a fight, Hopeling, but that actually isn't what I was shooting for if you can believe it. I agree, all that stuff is standard issue. Except when it isn't, such as EA or ELA builds. Or, when you can make up the difference through powers and not IOs. If it takes all this additional stuff, congratulations, it takes more EPS than willpower alone can provide. I never said that it was beyond what willpower and any assistance could accomplish. Is this really that big of a deal for you?
  5. Ageless is amazing if you need an obscene amount of endurance plus some perks. If not, stick to barrier or rebirth. However, between barrier and rebirth, I think the way to look at it is "which can inspirations not do?" If you want something to soften the blows in a really harsh situation, purples and oranges are just about as good as barrier since barrier is massive overkill. On the other hand, greens are never as good as rebirth since greens only heal you and do not give you a colossal amount of regen.

To phrase it more eccentrically, to select barrier is to throw up your hands and say, "No, world! I don't want to ever have to click on anything for any reason! Except for barrier, that is!" If you cast your lot with rebirth, you admit that your weakness is deeper than some might suppose, yet you face head-on the disturbing truth that your influence in your own destiny is limited, so you might as well make the most of it. Sometimes you might not need a thousand percent regeneration but a hundred or two percent won't ever be redundant even for regen scrappers.

A bell is rung and many candles are lit. So begins the next chapter in the minutes of the scrapper destiny decision society.

To get back to my initial post, my point was that if you have to have two performance shifters, the numina unique, the miracle unique, stamina, quick recovery and physical perfection, that doesn't really count as making endurance management trivial. That is a gigantic investment. That is essentially what TW requires, but fortunately that is a hurdle that is very leapable.

For instance, I skipped the two performance shifters and my build is not sustainable. That's the difference. Ain't exactly low end, is it?
  7. Well, from another perspective, David probably has more responsibilities at work than this one picture. Either he could use complete sets, many of which he himself drew the concepts for in the first place, or he could spend however much time coming up with a couple dozen totally original characters so they could make their first and only appearance as the nameless crowd in an image that is really about the major characters in the first place.

My favorite thing about that drawing is that he had to make the bioluminescent hero look as though she weren't grinning gleefully.

    Hmmm. Implausible.
  9. Surely you have a couple escaped praetorian characters, Lazarillo? I know I do.
  10. They've specifically said there won't be a one-off developer event for Statesman's funeral. That doesn't mean there won't be anything, though.
  11. I don't really know what else to say other than the wish may be father of the thought? You think that Penelope Yin now has shiny silver skin and dresses like a ***** for no reason? Are you aware that tights can be worn on the face as well?
  12. On almost every new character I make, heading to Faultline at level 15 is a top priority. Why? Set missions to x2, run through them fighting all and only the single-boss spawns, effectively powerlevel yourself. Lost bosses are as easy as they are profitable. I love it.
  13. If they're teamed with friends, surely these friends would be happy to help them with the arc? New player, everything is shiny, let's help her with the lady jane mission so that the worst case scenario you're describing doesn't happen! But no, you say these friends are so keen on an ITF that they'll abandon their cohort at the drop of a hat. Tell me, Stormbird, are these people really friends?

By the way, everyone I know has run over one million ITFs. Nobody ever says, "We need to run an ITF before it's too late!!"

You know, if we're talking about a new player who's never run the arc before, maybe they should try it before running the ITF. It's a neat arc. By the time they're done with it, another ITF will be forming.
  15. "Hey, wanna do an ITF?"

"Sure! Oh wait, haven't unlocked it on this guy yet, let me get my fender instead."
  16. What I don't get is that something like half of the posters here think that she's showing any skin at all. That's very, very clearly a completely be-tightsed outfit. If wearing tights makes you look like a *****, Paragon City has an extremely large red light district.
  17. Wow, yes, how punitive. Only awarding the reward for a story arc to people who complete the story arc. Oh yeah, and anyone over level 10 can grab the arc at any time easily. God this is so onerous! When will the devs relieve us of this Sisyphean burden?
  18. Right and Techbot is completely wrong. You don't need to run it eight times. At the very worst you need to run it slightly more than one time, in the case where you had seven people running it from the start, an eighth joined, and you need to start from the start to catch that person up. The only thing this fix prevents is people rounding up seven strangers with a shoutout on a channel to the effect of "about to complete the midnighter arc, who needs it?"

Since the Lady Jane fix, it's one of the easiest arcs in the game. This really is not a big deal.
  19. Yet I propose to you that it should. Like I said, and like you said, so far the SSAs have apparently been everything you'd hoped for. Mortimer Kai. The mid-level arcs in Sharkhead. All of it is good stuff by your own standards. Sorry for being curt but I just don't understand how you can look at what they've given you lately and still conclude that they're jerks who hate villains.
  20. I haven't seen WWD1.5 red because it isn't on paragonwiki yet, heh, but I have run the old Darrin Wade arc and in my personal opinion he doesn't seem like the kind of dude you'd want to join up with. As a matter of fact, he seems like he would kill anyone for any reason at the drop of a hat. I don't foresee that being emphasized any less in part 6 now that he has demigodly power. Why not give them a chance to show you what happens rather than assuming the worst based on one comment about something we won't see for two months?
  21. For giggles I just read through parts one through four of WWD villain edition on paragonwiki. It seems to me that they've been going all-out on giving you exactly what you want. In fact, those aren't the only recent arcs where villains get some kind of rad temp power prize or nifty hare-brained scheme to pull off while the hero equivalents remain as stolid as ever in terms of their focus on "go here, be good." It seems to me that you are complaining about the possibility that you may have to fight another villain at the end of Who Will Die before you even know word two about what will happen.

Is this really that hard for you to understand? Wade double crossed you, you want to go kill him. They're clearly going to let you do that, but that isn't good enough because heroes also want to stop him? Please.
  22. How about because you live in the universe?

By sustainable I meant in ideal, immortal single target circumstances. My point is that 99% of the time I am endurance-sustainable because 99% of the time I'm not doing that without access to any outside remedy. I wasn't saying there's no way to deal with TW's monstrous endurance usage, from the start I was making the point that it has monstrous endurance usage that one has many ways of dealing with.
