Why would it be tintable if it weren't a player piece? That's not the same color as Diabolique's version.
-
Because one of four new power sets, the smallest of them in fact, being the frequently requested sorcery option means devs haaaaate people who hate magic! On the other hand, why would I expect you to evaluate anything rationally given the sheer rancor you've displayed in this thread?

Quote:I'd call en/en dead even with inv/ss, in that both of them break the needle off the quintessentiometer so their actual values are obfuscated. Whenever I see anyone playing either of them, which remains very common to this day, I think, "That person is having fun right now."But I think there's no question that if there is one flag-bearer for an archetype, its Energy/Energy. I would bet anything that its the combination rolled more often as a percentage of the total archetype than any other. Its the quintessential Blaster, more so than anything else is the quintessential anything else - even Claws/Regen.

That was perhaps a little more abrasive than was necessary. For instance, it would be worth pointing out that with energy aura, you're using typed defense rather than positional. Therefore you should shoot for softcapping at least smashing and lethal, and ideally also energy defense. Getting those three will protect you from something like 90% of attacks in the game. Exceptions include pure psi, toxic, negative and elemental attacks, but those really don't come up that often.

The reason the hold duration is better than a hold proc is green mitos. You can stack a lot more mag if you enhance the already-great duration.

I hate to keep linking to my own thread, feels like I'm spamming it here, but this is basically what the build still looks like. Turns out all you need in addition to posi's blast in psy scream is a generic 50 range IO.
-
Something tells me that had I shot for less than 60% defense on my fortunata, beating the final boss of Dark Astoria as a 53+3 while I was 52 may have been a tad rougher than it ended up actually being.
-
Whew this thread got me so fired up for fortunatiation I had to go blitz through a LGTF. With that out of the way, the case for psy scream.
Is its DPA great? It is not. That aside, it has better range than dart burst. This is important to me because with cardiac and enhancement I was able to get every one of my ranged powers to 96 foot range, psy scream included. Given how easy it is to saturate its target cap, then, it's nice that psy scream has a target cap of 12 to dart burst's 10. I don't have strong feelings about the secondary effects of either power but at least the -recharge stacks with the same effect in psi tornado. Most of the time, I count the fact that psy scream does psi damage as a point in its favor. Basically fortunatas are going to suck against robots no matter what you do and dart burst's lethal damage will not speed things up very much. Most of the time though that pink goodness gets the job done just fine. The last thing I'll say for psy scream is that I think it's one of the coolest legacy particle effects in the game. The casting animation looks neat and the effect on the enemies screams, heh, to the team, "I am FORT! Hear me psy-roar!" Nothing wrong with that!
Oh right, dominate slotting: That's where I put the AT set. I was all excited to slot it in gloom and then... you can't put it in ancillary pools. Oops. -
Quote:Incarnate content enemies have 64% tohit rather than 50%. This means, naturally, that the incarnate softcap is 59%. 71% melee is overkill and I wouldn't build for that myself but widows don't get much DDR, either, so it makes sense if you want to have a buffer against -def effects in incarnate content. Incarnate level Cimeroran enemies are meanies. You're probably not getting responses because you didn't post a data chunk.
I'm assuming PvE?
Overkill on the accuracy and melee defense (45% defense is the softcap, and 50% caps you against a +4 av). Go into options->configurations->base values and set your accuracy to 39. That will make your powers display your chance to hit against +4s. You only need 95% to cap, and I think the lowest power you have is at 117%.
You don't really get much out of 6 slotting positron's and scirocco's. Even though psi attacks sometimes bypass positional defenses, it's a rare occurrence and widows have high psi resists.
It's kind of weird that you put adjusted targeting in buildup instead of leadership since you don't need the extra accuracy, and leadership would at least benefit your teammates.
the second recharge in placate only makes it recharge 2s faster.
You're over the rule of 5 on +10% regen and +9% accuracy. -
I haven't exactly run the numbers on my fort's actual damage. I suspect that in terms of pylon times it'd be pretty poor compared to a single target focused meleer. That was a tradeoff that I was aware of while planning the build; in addition to the damage, the ranged fort gets many other benefits. That chain I mention can stack something like 30 mag hold with five slots in Dominate devoted to damage slotting and the sixth slot with a level 50+5 unbreakable constraint: hold piece. The immobilize in subdue is surprisingly unreliable, it often works on LTs and below but almost never stacks up on bosses. You also have gloom providing -tohit, and the entire chain is exotic damage types which is extremely handy for content such as the aforementioned Cimerora missions.
To make that very long story shorter, yes, it definitely kills bosses, just not as fast as a night widow or bane spider would.
I know what you mean about dart burst. This is actually the second fortunata I've made, the first was a long time ago and I abandoned it at around level 40. On that one I relied on burst -> scream which was fine, but I found the redraw super noticeable when I got past the level where I was using my melee much. If you use dart burst in conjunction with the claw powers or just single target dart, no redraw. Use it with the psionic powers, mega redraw. You might find that less annoying than I did though. -
Wow, I had no idea at all that she currently had a mission to fight Siege. Since A Hero's Epic came out, I've gotten Siege every time either by running a BAF or by running up to mission three in A Hero's Hero in ouroboros. The latter method may or may not still be quicker than running through her missions until she dispenses the correct one, but I suppose some people would probably rather avoid having to ouro it.

Melee forts seem almost as common as ranged forts in my own experience and frankly I don't understand why. What forts do better than any other AT is ranged psi damage plus control and unshakeable defense. Use that! The best chain, that I can see, is subdue -> dominate -> gloom. TKB is nice to keep around for exemplaring as well. You can have a convincing aoe arsenal with just psychic scream and psi tornado, but by all means add dark oblit if you are so inclined. Absolutely go with wail, too: it's like having two judgements instead of one.
As you can see I made no mention of any claw/dart powers. They don't benefit the single target chain while letting you stay at range, and burst doesn't mesh very well with the aoe chain given its redraw. Psi tornado is basically just fireball but all dot, it doesn't require the focal target to be alive for it to work. Purely in terms of damage it doesn't exactly inspire but I like it for its soft control as well. It's a great place to put the AT proc.
In any case, yeah fortunatas are sort of slow going at first. Once you get wail at 32 you start to get more of a spring in your step and after that it's pretty much just solid goodness. I began IOing around level 30 because I like to be able to keep as much of my defense and recharge as possible down to that level anyway, so that really helped my fort as well. It's been the only character I've run all the way through Dark Astoria and it did it with aplomb if I do say so myself. The finale of, uhhh... the Cimeroran arc (I want to call her Sister Solaire, dark soulllllls...) was a real highlight: I declined the assistance and pretty much took Romulus' entire army to the cleaners. Satisfying. So, ranged forts can be pretty damn cool! -

Uh since when are Titans magical? The modern concept of magic arose well after Greek legends had become nothing more than historical trivia. The fact that you consider everything supernatural to be necessarily magical seems to be a limitation of your own conception, Venture.

I would be surprised if SJ is really the best for DPS when all is said and done. The fact that missing hurts it like it hurts a scrapper trying to run attack vitals is pretty significant, as is the fact that it cannot have a chain as short as most other sets because of the recharge of CU: that doesn't just mean CU is put off for another second or two, you have to delay AS by the same amount and thus are firing it that much less frequently.
By the way, it doesn't matter that martial arts "needs" storm kick, because martial arts has storm kick. Super strength needs rage or it'd be crap, brah! Better not play it. -
Everyone made an energy/energy blaster at launch. I checked and not one person didn't. That's about as telling as it gets for definitiveness. Likewise, inv/ss has had eight years of being a go-to combination. There are things that are popular because they're effective like fire/kin and ill/rad, and then there's en/en and inv/ss. Completely different league of popularity: they're naturals.
-
While that explains the haters, it's more difficult to reconcile with those of us who aren't flipping out about excess magic.
-
It may or may not surprise you to know that I completely agree with you. I don't like brutes and I don't play brutes, except for one SJ/Regen which was purely for concept reasons and surprised me by being pretty fun. For the most part I hate the fury mechanic. At the same time, I don't think you can seriously argue with its efficacy. If we're talking about a player so new to MMOs that his every action may as well be random, fury is much more likely to help than to hinder, to the extent that anything could be called helpful. It's helpful because it's basically an unconditional windfall: if you're making any progress at all, fury is helping you. If you're incapable of beating basic default difficulty encounters on a brute, you wouldn't do any better on a scrapper.

I think there's been plenty of mutant madness flying around with the SSAs, given that almost all dev-created psychics are mutants. Penelope and Psyche both had major roles. Psychics are also a central pillar of the First Ward content.
-
The fact that you demand rigid adhesion to genre tropes fortunately does not mean the devs feel compelled to kowtow to them as thoroughly. I'm glad they're capable of being a bit more creative than some, aren't you?
-
The Well is not magical according to any official lore. It has always existed, magic has not. It is specifically noted that "incarnate" is a different origin than magic in that one arc everyone loves so much.
-
I'm getting exhausted just keeping up with this discussion and it seems like the entire thing is moot anyway since EvilGeko has not demonstrated any desire to rise to that bait in the first place. Wouldn't everyone be happier to not be arguing about this?
-
JB, all of the things you mention are more complex than you make them out to be. Portal Corp has magicians in its parking lot, mutant monsters on the hills around it, and natural soldiers just outside the front gate. The story arcs from the contacts there run the gamut from werewolves to robots to natural assassins to booger monsters. The same can be said of Arachnos: Mu is but one of the four main factions, others of which include mutation, technology, science, and natural training. Then you've got your Arachnoids, your Scorpion Armor, and whatever else. The Midnighter Club's whole purpose is that it's a melange of anyone who is capable of and interested in helping.
The more fleshed out anything gets in this game, the harder it is to pigeon hole it as based on one origin. I say they've always done a good job of that and they haven't gotten any worse at it. -
Possible? Heck, turns out it's pretty easy!
But why is this in the blaster forum?
