Alright, did some talking. Bunny makes a good point. So I said what if the Council of X rightfully disregards Bathory's ceasefire, overrule her, and carries on with the bounty anyway? Tomb then responds to this with a counter-bounty on Undead. While some Mercs come for the Court's undead and others come for the NH's monster hunters, Court/NH and the Heroes are still chasing Tomb. But the chase leads to this distant Island, where it all kicks off big time.
NH vs Mercs vs Court vs Heroes vs Tomb vs Undead vs Everybody vs Laser Beam Dinosaurs... and Fluffy White Polar Bears... vs the Tezla Dogs. -
I like AE and in-game RP better. Too much forum RP focus thus far. Nice big in-game event to end it all would be hot.

The sound of hurried footsteps and a stampede of boots suddenly flooded the underground home. The outside compound of Ocean Farm had now been invaded by several police cars and vans. Armed units roped into the loading bay and down into the hallways below.
"FREEEEEEEEZE! SWAT POLICE! YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!" they yelled, weapons trained on the woman at her desk.
Hellskiller held his gun firmly before him and made his way behind the piano to check on the girl identified as Tomb, but she was long gone. The detective spun his head around, searching the room for the alien creature and the Englishman. -
Thank you for all your hard work ransim. Much appreciated. It's great to see our much loved Unionverse and Virtueverse shall soon have a new and better server home. I understand the content exodus might possibly be automatic for the Union wiki? If not, I'm free this October to help with the manual migration.
Quote:The new server is faster, more robust and its managed professionally. It will be more secure and offers us more then double the amount of disk space. It also comes with better backups. So its pluses all around. Basically everything you mentioned [more security, capacity, stability, less bots] -
Quote:"Detective Ken Hutchinson was quick to send the boys in blue my way. I dropped the call and re-linked to Altair, my eyes in the sky. I streamed my video footage over to her and almost instantly she recognised the people captured in the recording. She told me the music teacher was in fact the very dubious Lady Irene Sepulcher and the child who had been knocked over behind the piano was not a Gemma at all, but actually the very troubled little girl called Tomb."I swept through the buildings sniffing out clues, found a few interesting things but one name kept coming up; one Lady Irene Margaret Sepulcher. I had Altair look it up. My own personal oracle. Apparently this Lady Irene owned the place. A two time widow and self-made entrepreneur. Struck me as a Countess Crey type; rarely seen at work but publicly visible at Black Tie charity events. My senses were tingling. Dead bodies, St. John's victims, frozen buildings and widowed entrepreneurs? Something weren't right.
Instinctively the Detective charged at the music teacher, his hands reaching for his sidearms, ready to pin the woman down at gunpoint. "WHO ARE YOU?!"

Quote:"This property sits under American soil" began the detective nick-named Hellskiller. "And as such is subject to America Law. This creature and I, and the one behind me represent the law enforcement. We've tracked some vans full of gravediggers to this location and found down here what was the sacred content of those graves, down here. Reanimated and being schooled... in music and art. But as you may or may not know, Grave Desecration and Grave Robbing are serious criminal offences. With the power invested in me by the great people of this city, I hereby cordon off this whole... place until further investigations. The men above ground will be arrested and charged and you madame will do well to co-operate with us. MAGI especially will have a few interesting questions to ask you concerning this vampire set-up you have here. And the police will also want to know what that child is doing away from her home. Prepare your answers. I'm off to summon the cops!" With that, Detective Grayson produced his cellphone and dialled a certain contact in the local police force.“So the monster likes children? What a truly absurd idea, tell me which third rate children’s fantasy did you spring from?” her tone was rather level as she casually cleaned the ridding crop with a handkerchief.
As he does so, he begins videotaping the several monitors in the hallways and the different rooms within the house, with a recorder, presumably for evidence. "Hello?" said Hells, talking into his cellphone. "This is Detective Mike Grayson, trace this call and put me through to Ken Hutchinson. This is a police emergency. Well you tell him it's to do with the Saint John's case. And be quick about it. Fine. Yes, I'll hold" said Mike, still videotaping evidence. -
Doing well Kall, thanks for organising this. Now I do believe I owe you a chocolate stick or two. See you at around 10am.
Please tell the guys we can finish the TF later. I went to bed after waiting so long. Told the missus to play for me or log off but I guess she didn't. EPIC fail! -
So knackered. It's been a very long morning! Six hours journey to here, failed epically to catch my train, forked out a fortune for new tickets, even reserved the room and thought I'd already booked it, another payment. Then I forgot my monitor's power cable at home. Thank goodness the guy at NetAdventure was kind enough to let me borrow one, and wow Paragon Studios covering the cafe rental costs, amazing! Roughly £26 per person? 3 months of game subs refunded.
Had a walk through the famous Bullring Shopping Mall with Damsel and Miny earlier. Birmingham's such a beautiful place, town centre almost reminds me of Praetoria. Though nothing beats meeting all you guys in person. Finally a face to the personalities. Tyger! Gohan! Archer! Kall! Eric! Eleven! Dante! Adam! Shadowe, Beet, Ryrukin, Womble, AB, Archie Gremlin, Grouchybeast, Mr Mac & Missus, Orrery'd better watch his back too! ¬¬ -
Hellskiller peeled his eyes off the disturbing images on the screen then followed the extraterrestrial Wolfhunter into the next room. "Am I the only one here freaked out by all of this?" asked Hells. "Who would run this sort of operation and for what purpose? I mean... a nest of vampire kids? Beneath a Fish Factory?"

Quote:A few hours after the two had been asked into the stone walls of the Gothic building, the great doors creaked open once again and out came the resplendent halo-stricken form of Pious Hunter, followed by the trenchcoat-clad Alena Corvas. Stood in the doorway was the the assassin referred to as Drew Firstblood. The three exchanged words before parting ways. "Priest!" came the voice of a Longbow Commander, in full red and white uniform. He had been perched across the street, blending in with the local Longbow patrol squad. "So how did it go?" he asked, leading the pair to a nearby Longbow carrier.Quietly and with no intentions of leaving, they waiting, perched on the enemy's doorstep. [...] and other allies lay in waiting should peace turn to war...
"Surprisingly well" Pious replied, climbing into helicopter. "For all the wrong reasons, this latest atrocity has united both the House of Bathory and the People of America under a common cause. By 9am tomorrow morning, Bathory's bounty on hunters will be called off... Open Season is over and the hunt for the St. Johns killer has begun. It seems you were right Commander, this Lady Irene Sepulcher could quite possibly be a distraction." Pious paused momentarily and turned a steel gaze to the Commander. His eyes blazing with burning determination. "Bathory has a new suspect" he continued, "...a youth called Tomb." -
-
Quote:Then so be it. CB says he wrote this plot prepared for such consequences. No Pious, actions on this scale would lead to Tomb being killed and the Court being torn apart by almost every group (Villian and Hero) in the game.
Both the NH and the Court helped STOP to child-killing robot by the way, while the world watched. So I don't see the Court being in trouble, praised maybe. -
Quote:Hmm. I see the opposing argument better now. Shadowe as always, makes a good point.1) Dev-driven story lines.
2) Wide-effect Player Plots.
3) Large-scale Player Plots.
4) Personal Character Plots.
I am and always have been, of the opinion that we players cannot and should not create wide-effect player plots. It's something only the Devs (like Marvel or DC execs/writers) can do, as they alone control CoX cannon. Having said that, most of the community plots I mentioned earlier were merely large-scale and I believe Open Season is too.
I am sure CB did not intend his Saint John plot to grow beyond the scope of the groups already involved and a few other characters witnessing the atrocity. If it's decided that the atrocity of 850 dead, including children would spark an all-out global investigation, and ultimately the incarceration of Tomb, then either one, so be it, or two, retcon the scale.
Back on a more general level, I stand on the belief that in a shared world, roleplayers shouldn't always expect to have the option to ignore plots around them. If something is happening in Paragon City and your hero stumbled on it, don't moan about not having the choice to ignore it. Rikti War, Requiem War, Heroes for People, if your character can't reasonably ignore it, then don't. Play on, right? -
*shrugs*
People are away I think. -
Quote:I certainly do. It's sad that we argue so much and too often quite bitterly, but on the other hand, at least we're talking. Only a page in so far into this thread and we're all still friendly and civilised with our choice of words and I pray it stays that way. (That's not saying I too am without blame).IIRC, you too have been on the receiving end of problems caused by world affecting plots, Pious; so you likely know the grief it can cause.
Cats, you make a good point. We can't have a community plot where a player writes his villain to have destroyed half the city of Paragon. Common sense says that is just silly. I shudder to think someone out there would actually think to run a plot along those lines. Going on what Rocky and Dante said, about a thousand dead from a giant monster robot's missile attacks is something that sadly, would happen too often in such a setting as Paragon City, given the amount of threats sustained on a daily basis. So on that note, I don't think the Saint John's plot is wildly out of proportions. CB has done it quite well and we can only hope other roleplayers thinking of running a plot of similar level casualties do it just as well if not better.
But just out of curiosity, if we were to propose a limit on plot magnitude or number of casualties within a plot, where would you place the mark? No plots allowed that would cause the involvement of more than twenty(?) heroes in Paragon City? Just because they shouldn't have to be in a position beyond their control? -
I think we've been a relatively successful RP community so far, even if it is a little divided; GG/PD and the general silly/serious differences in all our RP styles. The majority of us Unioners have happily agreed that certain rules are a given, because it's only common sense. Plot-breaking god-mod characters or items are kept out of plots, agreed. In-game cannon events such as the Rikti Wars, the Rikti revelation and the now crowded bridge between Praetoria and Primal Earth... all accepted and agreed on to have occurred in our shared community.
It's when it comes to player-created community plots, or as Sadron pointed out, some character plots too even, that a few people get the hump. Complaints surface about the shared world being permanently affected. What I would like to add is that one, it's a valid concern to have as we must all protect our Unionverse from self-destructive plots. However, like Temporis's Requiem War, Britanic's Supremacy Plot, My Rogue Wars 1 & 2, Alpha's Arachnos Invasion, Mechano's Chronodyne Incident, Ammon's Heroes for People, Big Lunk's Council of War, Big Game/Bathory's Open Season and as mentioned above, Cactus Brawler's Saint John Terror Attack (Now revealed to us OOC to have been orchestrated by Tomb to violently spur the heroes into taking extreme action against the rising number of demonkind). All these community plots share the scale of the real world 9/11 disaster. CB said it; in a comic-book world such as this, 9/11 type terror attacks happen all the time so not detailing the President's/Government's reaction to it or even Freedom Phalanx's (and your hero's) awareness of the incident is not so far-fetched. They could be busy handling an even bigger catastrophe or maybe they're letting Longbow deal with it. Pick your excuse.
On a personal level, my hero recognises the Requiem War and all the community plots that followed but I don't subscribe to GG and as it was mainly GG-ran, I left it to them. ICly, my hero did a similar thing; he left the crisis to the trusted supers that were involved. He mourns with those that suffered losses and celebrates the overall victory. I expect that is the approach of many other RP'ers who for whatever reason did not directly partake in whichever community plots.
To summarise, I don't think we can or should, as a whole, try to limit plot magnitudes as we do character-godliness magnitudes, based on the argument that it forces an unwanted story to reach our characters. Why? Simple, its a shared universe and a massively multiplayer game. You don't like the X-Men's world-changing story, do like the Avengers; ignore it and go make your own. -
Quote:Pious shielded his eyes with his arms and reached for cover as the giant robot burnt up within itself and exploded into smithereens. It took a moment of shock and awe to take it all in. A school full of children was gone but thanks to the efforts of Paragon City's heroes, the threat had now finally been eliminated. Today's Giant Monster was gone for good. "But now we wait only for tomorrow's disaster" said the Priest, conversing with one of his estranged twin brothers Captain Harlem. "But defeat it we almost certainly shall... right Joel?"The combined assault of the heroes on the machine were simply too much. The missiles hit as raised on arm in a final attempt to kill [Pious]. The core overload, flashing white hot as the machine exploded.
"Whatever man" replied Harlem, picking up his round Impervium shield and moving away. "I'll tell ya something for nothing 'bro'. You ever quit on us and I'ma b*tchslap your ugly ar*e right back to halo-land, ya dig? You one of the truest heroes left out here and I aint having gone through all that redeeming for nothing."
Pious saw the humour but couldn't bring himself to laugh, not even inwardly. He watched on as The Crusader and Dante Hunter ran around the battlefield collecting the injured and near-dead victims, some of whom had fallen away from the robot's crucifixion crosses and escaped the mad vampire's death sentence. Both the Sentinel and the Officer were aiding Longbow and the Police to clear the scene for forensic evaluation, while keeping the press at bay.
Pious assumed the Dunelm Group squad who had contributed massively to the defeat of the robot, had by now retreated back to base. He thought of his own team-mates who had been a part of the battle, Heinz 'Unbeweglich' Schmitt and Blade 'Racer' Balfear. Schmitt had saved him from the robot's attacks and had suffered severe injury because of it. He would have to repay the favour and at least visit him at the hospital. With one last look at the costly devastation, the Priest sparked alight a burning white aura and jetting into the air. A twinkle in the afternoon skies indicated he was headed to the Phoenix Medical Centre. -
Not exactly dress-up but I hope to come in a white shirt and a skinny black tie, like Priest.
-
Yeah pretty much. Should be interesting.
-
Erik is going away for three weeks and with the Final Strike on Castle Bathory looming I suppose we'll need filler material until he returns? Game?
Would be silly to attack his place with both him and Bathory on holiday... or would it? LOL. (I kid) -
Quote:Yes! Game's finally decided to hit back. Good timing too as has the Nighthunters."Screw it. Looks like my hunter has given up or is dead already. Mama should be safe. I oughta head back, and try give Aquis and the Corp a push. If they don't want to join the party... well I'm sure them Nighthunters will soak up a whole load of hurt for me."
Big Game got up, walked over to his room, and started to pack... -
Solemn and overcome with guilt, Pious had watched on with mild disregard as fire rained from the heavens to scorch the earth, only barely aware of his friend Schmitt shielding him from the plasma burst and the hurled metal limb. Awoken by the German's sacrifice, he looked around and noted others who were setting aside their own safety to save the battle-torn suburbs and put a stop to the metallic monstrosity before them.
"One act of evil..." he muttered to himself, slowly stirring back alive. "...And a dozen acts of good. Perhaps there is hope for us yet."
"Reverend Pious Hunter...." said a familiar voice, approaching through the rubble. "Its time you got your wish"
Pious jerked his head left, then right as though he had just received some private message.
"You are the one called Erez'Zul" said the Priest, with new vigour and heightened spirits. "You were party to the torture of my wife while she was held in the dungeons of Castle Bathory. You were also responsible for the shadowy abominations now called the Darkhunters. That makes it twice that you have been bested by the Nighthunters alone. You are far too outnumbered to threaten me here Erez. Just look around you."
And as though on cue, the glorious rays of sunshine burst from beyond a distant cloud, flooding the battlefield with blinding light. The silhouette of a small army could just be made out marching forth from across the charred school grounds.
"Dunelm Group! What is your profession?" came a loud commanding voice from deep within the fast approaching army. The response was so loud and mighty it shook the very dirt beneath their feet. "OOOOORRRAAAAH!" they yelled and within seconds they had began their onslaught on the giant killer robot.
As the thuds and clang of battle echoed through the school, five military parachutes descended from the skies using the blinding sunlight rays for cover. "Mission Control this is Crusader, Captain Harlem, Sentinel, Officer and Dante Hunter, we are now on location and ready to engage. Permission to open fire!"
With a flash of steel and fire, two long range missiles had been propelled towards the great machine. The Crusader unsheathed a large gunblade and began a multitude of sharp strikes at the monsters one remaining leg. Dante flitted about trying to collect the crucified bodies on the machine's armour while both the Sentinel and the Officer continued their barrage of well-placed missiles and gunfire.
"The trouble with you villains are, Erez'Zul" Pious began, just as the obscenity-spouting hero Captain Harlem arrived to support him. "You all stand alone."
