Quote:I probably wasn't clear. I'm not saying Kins should have to take SB. But these kins inevitably do have it. Yet thy don't use it. That's what annoys me. Not bad builds, or people skipping powers or so on, but players taking these powers and not using them. Even if I met a FFer who didn't take the bubbles an instead focused on knockdown/back, then I'd accept it (though, of course, I'd prefer one with bubbles). But if I met a FFer who had bubbles but didn't use them, well, thats asking for a kick.I agree with the bubbler because bubbles are what defines the set but I think SB is not always required on a kin, tranference and fulcrum shift are really 2 big assets of this set and the 2min duration of SB make this power really annoying.
I'd understand a kin that only boost the stone tank or half the team, i mean this power is always down, as a kin i don't want to spend my time doing this ... especially if i'm a controller (i know i know ... defender forum here but kinetics is a defensive powerset)

Quote:Yep, seen several Bubblers not use their bubbles. Probably the worst was a MM (in RWZ) that would only bubble his pets and refused to bubble the team, despite the fact that the pets were almost never getting attacked due to us having two good tanks keeping aggro between them...The sad thing? The AE is breeding a new type of noob defender who isnt empath either. This week i teamed with a FF defender who made me want to cry. The team i was in was punching above our weight but i felt pretty safe since we had 2 defenders, 1 being dark and the other was a FF - our tank was also shield ('Great!' im thinking, capped def for our tank and some protection for my blaster').
Then we start the mission...
At no point does anyone get a deflection or insulation shield, neither does the defender put up dispersion. I know they have them because i always inspect every player when i join a team to know what im getting. After the first couple of deaths i ask if the FF can remember to bubble the tank and squishys if they dont have time to do everyone (which from playing FF, i know they do...) and keep dispersion up since alot of our team was def based it would help greatly - the 2 scrappers were SR and Shield. Nothing...
Tank dies again. So i politely ask again and in response the defender pops up FORCE BUBBLE sending the mobs everywhere while the confused tank tries to catch up to the mobs...
After sending a PM to the defender telling them which bubbles i meant they dropped the 'g2g' in chat and left!
Oh, this person had 45 months of vet also.
Im sorry, but there is no way that would be possible without PL. My first toon was a defender, FF at that. You would have to learn what your bubbles did by the time you hit steel or have been kicked.
So yeah, no wonder people think healers are win if the non-healers in AE teams are giving good defenders a rap like that!
Same with Empaths and Fort (though they seem to be OK at using the RAs) and Kins and SB. The latter might keep it up on the Stone tank, but the chances of an AE'd kineticist keeping the whole group SB for most of the time is negligable. -
Yeah, when you've got nearly capped def and res, you don't need much more protection of any form, so go for defenders that boost the team's damage - kin, rad, storm etc - over a "healer". Those three can all heal to counteract what little damage gets through, and the group in general kills stuff much faster.

Quote:I'm not going to get into discussions of how good individual powers are, but this bit made me want to reply.I want a more balanced Defender. I want a character that solos AND teams well. In the final analysis, that's ALL I've been trying to get to. I'm not going to go through the entire history of my posts, this nonsense has gone on long enough already.
Why should defenders be good at both soloing and teaming? Is there some rule in CoX that states all characters must be good at everything? Cos if there is, I've never seen it. Your only argument seems to be "I want a character like that".
On average, Defenders probably bring more to a team than any other AT ('trollers are a close second). A good kin, rad, TA, storm, cold, sonic will probably add more damage than a blaster (albeit indirectly), but also a lot more survivablilty to the team. Dark, FF and Emp multiply the groups suvivability by many maginitudes. For this power, there has to be a downside. In this case, it's slower soloing (some builds can solo incredibly well, but on average, defs are among the slower soloers). That is balance. If you're strong in one area, you're weak in others.
Note I said slower. Because that's all it is. Find me some solo content that a defender - any powersets - can't do. I'm sure you could come up with a build that can't do it, but if you put together a good, solo-centric build with any combination of pwersets, you will be able to solo anything that's meant to be soloed (ie non-TF/Trial missions, on Heroic) - and not just a 2 billion inf IOed build, SOs are fine. You might need some insps for the toughest mobs (EBs), but hell, that's kinda the point of them dropping.
And lets say you did get your wish. All Defenders become great soloers. What happens to other ATs? Lets take my scrapper. Not only will defenders provide more to teams than him, they'll be able to solo as well as him. Are you then going to suggest we boost scrappers - maybe make their damage scale based on the number of team members as defenders does. That sounds pretty balanced. And, I better be able to protect my allies, as defenders can do that, and it's not fair that my scrapper can't. And I want to be as tough as a tank, as it's not fair that they can tank and I can't... See where this is going?
Incidentally, I think there are some problems soloing at low level - based around end use - but this is not a defender thing by any means. Tanks are probably worse off, and even scrappers (except regen) suffer from it - it's not hard to solo, but it can be tedious pre-stamina. -
If anything, I'm noticing as much "we need a kin" in the AE these days, particularly last weekend. Now, sure, given that around half the characters in AE are Fire/Kinetic Controllers, they're not that hard to find, but it's still stupid. Had a situation where we had a 7 man team looking for one last member. I was on my Ill/Rad, we had a Fire/Rad and a Rad/Rad Def. Our glorious leader - a tank - refused to start until we found a kin. After 20 minutes, 5 of us disbanded, reformed, picked up a new tank (a fire one at that) and a couple of blasters, and it turned into one of the fastest moving teams I've seen in AE...
Amusingly enough, it also highlighted the "healer" thing. When we recruited the Rad def, the tank announced something like "at last, a healer". A remarkable display of ignorance, seeing as not only was the defender a Rad, he hadn't actually taken his heal(I asked him why, and he said he was going to pick it up later, but he wanted to get his debuffs, AM and some attacks first - he was mid-20s IIRC).

It scatters EBs (can't remember about AVs) too. Not that noticable in groups, but solo it's horrible. I've memories of chasing Longbow EBs through half a base cos of that damned power....

Here's my thoughts, from the POV of a Fire/Trap corr:
Webnade: Pretty poor compared to other sets T1s. Either increase the Mag (so I can immob bosses in one hit), or increase the effect of the debuff.
Caltrops: The do their job - making enemies run around randomly instead of attacking you
Triage: Either make it shorted duration/recharge (same ratio) - so it can be up every fight - or make it mobile, and up the regen a bit.
Acid Mortar: Get rid of the damned scatter effect, maybe increase the radius. Seriously, get rid of the scatter. Oh, and while you're at it, get rid of the scatter.
FFG: HANDS OFF!!!
Poison Trap: No change really needed, though a small improvement, say a lower recharge, would be nice. I miss my procbomb.
Seekers: Pretty good as is. Would've been nice to get them earlier.
Trip Mine: Shorter cast/interrupt time. They're only really useful if you're setting them up pre-battle. This sounds wonderful in theory, but in practice, you don't get the chance. Groups don't wait for you to set up a load of mines, and you generally fight where the mobs are, not where you set up.
Time Bomb: Where to start? Well, as is, it's useless. So doing anything with it would be good. Saw a suggestion to make it like the Omega Maneuver, which sounds good.
Overall, I can't help feel that traps is just a little lacking. I do enjoy the character, but IMO it's short on relaible ways to keep your teammates alive. FFG obviously and...well, thats it. Seekers are a good debuff, but their radius is too small. Triage isn't up for every battle, and it's effect, while nice, isn't special enough to be forced to have this drawback. Poison Trap is unrelaible at holding people - IMO, the biggest loss from the old version wasn't the proc damage, but the almost guaranteed, long duration hold on everything nearby (it was unquestionably overpowered, but it made up for shortfalls elsewhere in the set). Caltrops provide some mitigation, but due to the panic effect, it's more of an "oh crap", than a relaible mitiagtion source.
Making Triage either mobile or up every fight and a bit more powerful would go a good way to solving this IMO. That'd give you a nice solid base of DEF and REGEN to keep people alive, with various extras on top of it. -
Well, I've run out of space on Defiant (too many characters I've gotten bored with in the late teens/early tewnties but keep on the off chance I might want to play them again...
) but I absolutely must make a couple more alts, so I'm gonna have to come over to Union.
Before I do I just thought I'd check if there are any good Union based chat channels? Events, Badges, inane talking etc -
[ QUOTE ]
Ahhh, but the traditional role of the Arena chat channel is to discuss events involving the Arena, is it not? Or is there another channel that is used for Arena events?
[/ QUOTE ]
That is the *intended* role...the traditional role was more of an outlet for spamming needs... -
Thanks, I knew Arena was meant to be for the Arena only, but no-one used to care
Anyone got a list of good channels to join? -
I stopped playing CoH about a year ago, but the lure of spandex became too great, and I started playing again last week. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself, but I've noticed something missing. Before I left, the Arena Chat used to always have people talking about all sorts of things, both game related and not. Since I've been back, I've seen two "wrong channel" comments, and someone looking for memebers for a TF. There's been more traffic in Help.
So whats happened? Has everyone stopped chatting? Or are you all hiding out in a chat channel somewhere? Or is there just something I've forgotten to do that makes most of Arena invisible to me? -
"Best" is entirely subjective. Different corruptor builds are good at different things. For example, my Dark/Dark corr is brilliant at protecting the team from damage, but she's not that hot a hurting things. While a, say, fire/kinetic corruptor has incredible damage output, but might be a little lacking in the defesnive side of things...

Heh...one of my punks is called Kenny....yet he's the one thats always left standing when everyone else is dead -

my arsonist does whatever he likes and ends up nearly dead most of the time. and thats *without* the 2nd upgrade!

Yep, mine too -

Thugs/Dark for ST damage.

I'm not at that stage yet, but looking at the powers thugs get with the final upgrade, it seems like they're AE monsters at high levels... -
Gah!
Really sorry guys, I...er...completely forgot
Hope it went OK for you -
[ QUOTE ]
yeah, he's an fire based corruptor at least i like to think that and it's awesome.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Arsonist you mean? Cool...not only does he have Molotovs, but he breaths fire, and he's a corruptor? Sweet...
But that doesn't explain what I just had...Me (not my pets) getting Scourge with Empty Clips... -
Been playing a Thugs MM recently (God, I'm inventive, aren't I?
), and I've noticed that occasionally, I (or, my pets...) seem to get Scourge double damage on nearly dead enemies. Doesn't go of nearly as often as a corruptor gets it, but it's a nice little boost. Any ideas what's causing this?

I took Blackstar. Is it great? Nope. Is it fun? Oh hell yeah

Ateria's up for this (40 dark/dark corr). Early start time would be preferred
