Fun:
Seismic Smash - SMASH!!!!!
Confuse powers - So much fun to watch them all kill each other
Arctic Air - As a subset of the previous, it's just fun to stand in the middle of a big group of foes, and watch them alternately run around like really really slow headless chickens or attack each other. Pity about the end cost....
Ice Slick etc. - Flop, flop, flop....
Lightning Rod - Even if it did nothing, it'd still get a mention, as it looks awesome. Fortunately, it does a hell of a lot more than nothing.
Ninja Run - Saves a travel power, and looks damn good? Yes please.
Full Auto - MOAR DAKKA!
Propel - Death by forklift (albeit several minutes after they'd died anyway, but still...)
Fearsome Stare - COWER BEFORE ME!!!!
The entire Dual Blade set - Just looks so cool
Headsplitter - Nothing fancy, just pure brutality
Not fun:
Single target buffs, in particular SB - Why? Really Devs, why? There is nothing remotely fun about using these abilities. Make them group wide or 30+ min duration (if need be, make it so they only last only as long as the caster is in the group or somesuch). Fortitude etc aren't too bad, but buffing 7 or 14 times every few minutes is tedious as hell.
Gale - Mainly cos most players who have it don't understand it, making things decidedly unfun for their teammates. Plus, it's pretty redundant in Storm. And most storms *have* to take it.
Actually that leads on to:
Any crappy tier one secondary power - Forcing us to take powers we don't want is bad, mkay? At least let us pick from the first two.
Black Hole - *sigh* Actually, it could be really useful with one small change IMO - make it a toggle. But stopping us killing a whole group for 30 secs is bad.
(As for the RoA target thing, are you sure it's not different "ticks" of damage hitting different targets? - ie Targets 1-15 get hit by tick one, 16-30 get hit by tick two etc) -
Quote:Yeah, I'm butting into the argument here, but you seem to be totally missing the point of what Leo is saying:You'er purposely misrepresenting the facts. You note the resistances for FA, ELA and DA and act as if that's some revelation. However, you fail to recognize that FA and ELA have no other toggles for survivability.
DA has 3 more; CoF, OG and CoD.
Lastly, I'm not too concerned about DA for Scrappers since the have another AT to soak aggro, and I believed I've already made this point once before.
DA uses more endurance than any other tanker/brute set and does not have a tool (think consume, powersink) to mitigate it's end usage.
For a comparable end cost, Dark can provide comparable protection to Fire and Elec. However, Dark can also increase it's protection beyond what those sets provide by spending more endurance.
And therin lies the crux of DA. It has better protection for a greater end cost. Or, to put it another way, Fire and Elec have plenty of end, but DA has plenty of health. If it had a tool for end management in addition to the extra protection, then it would essentially have that extra protection at no cost. Which, it should be pretty clear, would not be balanced. -
In general, I find I start using IOs - both generic and Frankenslotted set pieces - at level 27 (ie lvl 30 IOs) after using SOs for 22-27. I rarely look for set bonus before 50 (well, 47 technically....), though, due to the frankenslotting, I usually end up with some of varying usefulness.

Things that I feel like commenting on as well as just recommending:
Martian Sucessor Nadesico - Well, I wouldn't have though it needs commenting on, but it's only had three(!!!) +s, so I will. Quite simply, one of the greatest ever. Working both as an thoroughly entertaining space opera (with mecha of course) and as a brilliantly subversive parody of the genre (along with an in-show anime series which spoofs classic giant robot programs) Nadesico is a must see.
Code Geass - Earlier in the thread, LtZerge described it as "Gundam and deathnote made sweet love one day and this thing happened", which is pretty appropriate, as it's about a student who gains a supernatural power of dubious morality and he sets out to build what he regards as a better world, with added mecha. Massively OTT about everything, it gets really ridiculous by the end. Imagine a crash between two trains. How do you solve it? By sending more and more trains. Surely one will get through! Nope, they all crash into the wreck of the previous ones. Oh, thats bad right? Well, no, cos these trains are filled with PURE AWESOME!!!! That is Code Geass in a nutshell. Oh, and it's got some of the most incredible (in a hilarious way) facial expressions ever seen....
Darker than Black - Dare I suggest this is what Heroes wants to be? Fantastic deconstruction of superpowers and the people who wield them. Pretty ambiguous in terms of the setting (it's never really explained, but then, none of the characters really understand either) and the reasons for things occurring, but it never feels jarring or contrived. The ending of season 1 seems oddly familiar though...
Crest/Banner of the Stars - If you like lots of dialogue and character development, then this space opera will probably go down a treat. If you just like spaceships blowing up, then it probably wont. Theres some action (and it's good action), but it's not the focus. Personally, I love it.
Berzerk - Come for the oversized swords, violence and badassness, stay for the surprisingly deep and compelling story and characters, get pissed off at the anime ending when it does....
Record of Lodoss War - High fantasy epic. Cliche ridden, but done with such style that it doesn't really matter.
Simoun - Yes, it has lesbians. Lots of lesbians. And lesbianism powered aircraft. And perhaps a bit too much wangst. But, once you get past that, it's a pretty good anime, rather focusing on character development against a backdrop of war. Has perhaps somewhat the same kind of feel to it as Escaflowne (though it isn't as good)
Witchblade - Another anime with something that rather overshadows everything else: Fanservice. And some more fanservice. And why not have a little fanservice on the side? Titsbla...sorry, Witchblade actually has some great action, a fair dash of comedy and a helping of real character development, and is well worth watching.
*******!! (a word meaning an illegitimate child, stupid filter) - A vast army lead by mages trying to awaken the god of destruction threaten the kingdom. The last hope is that a virginal priestess can unlock the power hidden in her adoptive brother. Sounds pretty tired and cliched. However, said power is a crazy, egomanaical, womanizing arch-sorcerer, who pretty much only agrees to help because he fancies said priestess. Short, and with an irritatingly abrupt ending, it's none-the-less great fun while it lasts. It's also full of random references to 80s heavy metal bands.
Cromartie High School - "The guys that appear in this anime are delinquents. Please, do not under any circumstances, imitate anything they do. Don't do it man, I'm serious, it's a bad idea!" Utterly, utterly bonkers, even for insane anime, CHS is totally lacking in such things as logic, coherency and sense. But who cares, it's funny. -
Quote:That, on top of the fact that one issue earlier, we had the GDN. I suspect many of the people that left could've dealt with one big "nerf", but the two hits to characters abilities in quick succession really hurt. They were probably both for the best in the long run, but I can see why people left at the time. The real kick to the crotch was having all those super-powerful toons reduced to be significantly weaker, and then the very long stretch of time before IOs were introduced. Sort of a big roller coaster dip where powerful toons had to be comparatively weak during the wait for IOs where they could become powerful again. ED+IOs > pre-ED. Just that length of time inbetween them is what caused people to ragequit.

Quote:Teams exist to provide witness to the awesomeness of scrapperlock. What's the point of being that amazing if no-one's there to watch?I am not saying scrapperlock is purely evil just it should be used at certain times...Not "Oh let me go this way separate from the group any chance I can get b/c I am awesome". If that's the case why would one join a team?

Quote:Heh, it's funny, cos when I first played CoH, I had horrible altoholism, and I hated it. I gave up on the game when I couldn't get a character past ~lvl 25. About 6 months later, I decided to give the game another try, and I still had problems getting high level characters, but I realised something: I was having fun anyway. I didn't care that I had 20 level 20 characters, I was still enjoying playing the game."Stop making all those new characters, you'll never get anywhere in the game!"
On second thought, I like my altoholism (over 100 characters, thankyouverymuch!), so screw that noise!
So, I guess that's my advice, have fun*. Don't fixate on getting characters to the level cap if you'd rather start new ones. Conversely, if you love playing one character, don't feel pressurised by us altoholics to create more. If you like hanging around in AP doing cossie contests instead of fighting mobs, do that. Don't feel you have to play in a particular way. Don't build your character in the "right" way if the "wrong" way is more fun for you to play.
Play the game, find out what you enjoy the most, and do that.
*(with the caveat that you shouldn't act in a way that stops others having fun - for example, you might love running into groups of enemies with whirlwind on, and by all means, do so, but not when you're in a team). -
I'd like them to just appear in the contact lists, but not those damn popups.

Quote:If Poison is proliferated (and I hope it will be), I kinda expect it to go to Controllers first. They seem to be doing the buff/debuff sets with the appropriate blast set for Defs/Corrs, and there isn't one for Poison. Controllers on the other hand have Plant which sort of matches (many plants are poisonous...Poison for Corruptors and Defenders
Aye to Ninjitsu on Scrappers
Can't...really think of any more...Poison is the main one tbh, want to re-make my Thugs/Poison MM into a Dual Pistols/Poison Corr when GR hits)

Quote:I've seen "great heals" when the only support character is an FFer who didn't take Aid Other....People who congratulate play like this are people who don't understand the mechanics of the game, and quite honestly I'm sick of hearing it.
For my own example, I was playing my Mind/Kin troller once, who has Transfusion, but no other healing powers. After the end of a fairly long play session, I was told 'great heals' by a few members of the group. To my best recollection, I had used Transfusion maybe 3 times total in about 10 missions. And yes, mine was the only 'support' character on the team. -
Quote:I'm probably being pedantic, but that calculation is horribly wrong and it's bugging meIf you assume that those %'s are based off player accuracy:
I have a 75% chance to hit the first guy
Jump 1 has a 150% chance to hit 2nd guy
Jump 2 has a 112.5% chance to hit 3rd guy
Jump 3 has a 93.75% chance to hit 4th guy
Jump 4 has a 75% chance to hit 5th guy.
.75 * 1.5 * 1.125 * .9375 * .75 = 89% chance to hit 5 targets.E. That's my problem. Most if not all AoE's in this game don't work that way.
Even using your numbers it would be:
.75*1.00*1.00*.9375*.75 = 52.73% (as you can't have more than a 100% chance for something to occur)
However, given that in CoH all ToHit rolls are capped at 95%, the actual figure is:
.75*.95*.95*.9375*.75 = 50.10%

Quote:There's two types:Really? cause i could have sworn, that they were uniques, just like any others, and will work to any level you exemp down to as long as you have the power (don't forget you have to cast it if its not in an auto power). Of course you'll get the unique values, but not the bonuses those sets offer if your IOs aren't of proper level.
Globals (eg LotG +Rech, Steadfast +Def etc) - these work if you are up to 3 levels lower than the IO level (power level is irrelevant), and are always on
Procs (eg stealth, Heal set uniques, damage procs etc) - these work if the power is available (IO level is irrelevant), and are only on if the power is on
Here's the full list:

Quote:I'm pretty sure that Luminara's point wasn't that WoW's classes are more powerful than CoH's, but that in WoW, one class - the warlock - is (or was when she played it) so much better than the other classes, and that this type of discrepancy isn't present in CoH. Which is true, overall, CoH's ATs are reasonably well balanced: they're all damn powerfullolwut?
You clearly have no idea about WoW.
The power scales between WoW and CoX are so wildly different as to be nearly incomparable.
In CoX you are THE Hero (villain). The very basis of the game is that you become an individual of such power that you can single handedly stop whole armies, ie be a Hero.
Not to say thats a bad thing. Just different.
WoW is a far more team orientated game simply because the classes are FAR more limited in abilities. Basically no class can solo any current endgame content with any hope of success. There is nothing to compare with the power of enchantments and IO sets.
When I want the feeling of community, of working as a team in contribution to effort much greater then myself I play WoW. If I want to the feeling or power, of wiping our hordes of enemies in a much more laid back atmosphere (wow is srs busns) I play CoX.
But make no mistake if they ATs in CoX were introduced into WoW they would absolutely dominate the others classes and the game content. The game was not designed to deal with such powerful and customizable PCs. -
As others have said, there's no single overpowered class in CoH that can do pretty much everything really well. What it comes down to is what aspect of your character you want to be powerful - do you want to be good in a team, or on your own? Do you want to be great at fighting one incredibly tough foe, or mowing down hordes of weaker ones? Do you want to be unkillable, or do you want to have planet destroying levels of offense?
It's also dependant on how much inf you're willing to invest in the character - some builds are easy to make great, others take massive investment, but become hugely powerful. -
Meh, I'll take being brilliant in some situations and crap in others over being mediocre at everything.

Quote:Why bother? Just take 8 D3s, no need for the other ATs>o> So. How you guys feel about a all dark/dark Superteam? Scrappers tankers defenders? Or even since i16 is going live possibly tomorrow A full Superteam! one of each. Dark/Dark Scrapper,Stalker,Brute, tank, defender, corrupter,Mas termind, warshade (Negative en damage?) \o/ It would be soooo much win.
-
Forget about making Defenders better, just nerf controller secondaries - set them to, say, 50% of Def numbers.
-
But Dark does have -Regen: Twilight Grasp has some, and it's stackable with Fluffy's (and I seem to remember reading somewhere that it self stacks too), while Howling Twilight has a pretty nice chunk of it (though it's not perma-able).

Quote:Now imagine it on a Dark/Sonic (or Sonic/Dark for corrs). On a single target, that's probably another 1.4-1.6 multiplier...Don't forget multiplying by 1.3 because of Tar Patch. -80%, anyone? Why not throw on another 13% or 26% from Twilight Grasp? Now you're talking!

Quote:I would say it depends on the tank - putting it on something like an Ice or Granite tank is indeed a waste, but a res based tank (dark, fire) can really benefit from the Defense.put Fortitude on the tank (usually the LAST member of the team who needs it)
I do agree with the general sentiment though. Mindlessly putting it on the tank is a bad sign (though at least they're putting it on someone....). A good empath will look at the group makeup, and make their decision for Fort and AB targets based on that.
As for Dark and Storm? Well, for a corruptor, IMO the former is flat out the best set for keeping a team alive. It doesn't even take much skill to be competant - just activate DN, FS and TP, then sit back and relax (a good player will obviously do more, but even a Dark using just those three powers is still pretty effective). Storm's more complicated to use, but potentially just as awesome (a bit weaker defensively, but better offensively than Dark). Pain is rather meh compared to those two. -
It's probably easier to state things I don't like:
Short duration buffs - It's just tedious having to rebuff the entire team every 2-4 minutes. SB is the worst - I love everything else about Kinetics' playstyle, but having to rebuff everyone so frequently is not remotely fun. Why can't they make them either long duration, or a single buff that affects the whole group at once?
Inactive characters - I've got a Ice/Storm controller in the late 30s. I love the concept of the character, but it's just boring to play. I put down Ice Slick and Freezing Rain on the enemies and...well, I don't need to do anything else - the entire group is falling over and has their defense and resitance crippled. If I want to I can throw out one or both of my AE slows to be sure of the mitigation, but once I've done that, there's nothing left to do in a normal fight. I dread to think what a Bot/FF MM would be like...
Running out of endurance - AKA soloing low level tankers. AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH
Concept - I hate it. Why? Because I can't play a character which doesn't have a good oneUnless I can come up with a good reason why my character has their powers, and why they're using them for good/evil, I can't play them. There's plenty of builds out there that I'd love to play, but I can't come up with a non-contrived reason for my character to have those particular powersets.
Cool powersets that my current character doesn't have - The reason that I've been playing for 3 years and only have two 50s
