  1. Close call, but Rosen_ice gets my vote this month.
  2. I'm having a really sweet week in the art department, and just wanted to consolidate and share it.

I managed to grab a spot in Alex's grand wrapup to the 98 sketches thread for Timestepper, the smart-aleck with the goggles on the far right.

The good luck continued in The Foo's thread. He picked my sweet new avatar Miss Madcap as a subject.

The most surprising one is a prize from the 4th Golden Age Festival the Golden Age Heroes SG's held a few nights ago. Aerial Avenger, by Commander Crimson, almost casually showed up in a thread on their guildportal site. "Oh, as long as you're here, have some Awesome."

I just want to say thanks to everyone for the great arts. You guys are very generous with your talent, and are one of my favorite parts of the community.
  3. Sweet! I love her! This is getting printed out and put in a spot of honor next to my computer. Seriously, thanks for taking the time to do this.

    98 Sketches!

First off, really impressive work on the mass sketches. The characters all still feel very unique, even bunched together like that.

While I'm here, I can't resist tossing Timestepper into the ring. She's a steampunk version of Dr. Aeon, a time traveler who got herself stranded in the Rogue Isles. Personality wise, she's usually very polite and proper, but she's still a mad scientist, given to moments of insane laughter and doing incredibly dangerous things FOR SCIENCE!!!

  5. ...most impressive.

Seriously though, that's a really beautiful piece.
  6. Ooh, arts!
    [*] Name: Miss Madcap
[*] (Short) Description of the character concept: When the Citizen Crime Fighting Act passed in 1937, all sorts of people came forward to try their hand at being heroes. Alice Teufel desperately wanted to be one, and she got "lucky" when she was given a strange gem by a pawnshop owner. "Puck's eye," he called it, was rumored to give the owner all sorts of mystical abilities, even immortality. It also drove the user completely insane, which he kinda forgot to mention.
Alice is still around, a strange and mischievous little trickster sprite who's almost as much trouble to Paragon's heroes as the criminals she sometimes helps them fight. (She's an Ill/TA controller in-game.)
[*] (Short) Description of the character's look: Barely 5' tall, 100 lbs or so, she looks like the very petite teenager she was 70 years ago. One eye is blue, the other has been replaced by her precious gem. Pale skin and brightly patterned clothes, topped off with a white fedora.

    Here's some screenies.

  7. *Cue dramatic music and cheesy voiceover.*

    Skullcracker.

    The Bronze Detective.

    They're cops.

(Well, one is a failed CoT possession who's gone crazy and thinks he's the hero of a pulp novel, and the other is a refurbished Nemesis automaton from the original Brass Monday attack, but cops sounded better.)

This week on "Why Did We Give Them Hero Licenses?"...
  8. Hurray, arts! Here's Finest Hour, a BS/Shield scrapper.

Edit, because I can't read and didn't include his personality.

Finest thinks of himself as a soldier, not a superhero. He's very disciplined and totally fearless, and tends to get in way, way over his head because whatever he's fighting isn't a soldier of the British Empire, so it can't be as tough as he is, naturally.
  9. I'm far from the best costume designer around (you want Starwind for that), but I'd echo Dante's advice. A third color would add more visual impact to some of the costumes. The gloves, belt, boots, shoulders and hat/helmet/whatever are good places to stick in a third color without completely changing the feel of the costume.

On a different note, I really like the look of the guy in the train station. I think he's good as he is.
  10. I liked the old ones, and I'd love to see them come back.
  11. Krarr, this is obviously for fun, and as is clearly said at the top of the guide, the point is to show how many proc IOs can be crammed into a jack of all trades set like Trick Arrow. Lighten the hell up.

Personally, I love coming up with builds like this in Mids, and TA is one of my favorite powersets, so I'm actually going to give this a shot once my TA/Arch defender hits 50. Hurray for dual builds!
  12. Wow, Finest turned out GREAT! I love the whiskers. In the "real world," that's exactly what he'd look like. Thanks again for doing these. For "quick sketches," they're astonishing.
  13. This is a really cool (and generous) idea. As for a character, my new guy, Finest Hour, could use some art.
  14. Might as well throw my hat into the ring.

Nora Aeon is a woman quite literally ahead of her time. A version of Doc Aeon from an alternate steampunk dimension, she's very civil and polite. She doesn't give a damn what happens to anyone on Primal Earth as long as she gets home, but that's no reason to be rude, now is it?
    She's a DB/SR/Mace Brute.

I can generate the energy needed to jump through time right from this armor, no more cumbersome portals or messy magic tricks, thank you very much. Naturally, I've been trying it out. You can imagine my immense displeasure when my latest experiment landed me here, 125 years in the future and in yet another alternate dimension to boot. You've no idea how hard it is to simply go back and forth in time on your own bloody planet. All I want is to go home, and this fellow seems bound and determined to stop me. Something about tearing a hole in the fabric of the universe. It's always something, isn't it?
  15. Very well, I'll do what I can.

    98 Sketches!

I love how Miss Mapcap turned out! Katnip looks fabulous too, very fluid and powerful. Actually, come to think of it, all of these sketches have been really good.

A big congratulations to your grandpa! That's incredible.

  18. Hmm. I've got a few armored characters. The "Tech" patterns (Crey, Banded, Wired, Steampunk) are probably your best bets to get a modern, non-robotic look.

Agile Axe is mostly Tech Wired.

Aubergine Axe uses ExoProto, but it looks weird to me unless the colors are close together. For example, it looks terrible with red and yellow. I dunno, YMMV.

Casemate is pure Tech Crey, except his shoulder pads.

Eisenkreig Steampunk has a nice "industrial" look when it's shaded grey, especially the bottoms.

Timestepper uses Steampunk to actually make Steampunk-style armor. Most other colors make Steampunk look like you made a suit of armor in your garage.

    Hope these help.
  19. Here's Timestepper, my time-traveling steampunk girl, in full clockwork armor. Don't let the smile fool you, she's her dimension's version of Dr. Aeon, mad scientist through and through.
  20. I hate to break it to you, but Claws, Dual Blades, Katana and Spines don't work with shields. For Talsorian stuff, you're limited to the broadsword for scrappers and the axe for tankers/brutes.

Serafina? Pick Scirocco as your patron on redside, and you'll get a lot more of her backstory.
  22. Having spent a fair amount of Saturday running around fighting the Circle of Thorns, I'd point out that there are "Hordelings" in the game world. The mini-Bat'Zul's with ice attacks. Maybe he just got fed up with being a battery and broke free.

On another note, I'm loving the story so far.

    Screenshot Help

I'm in a bit of a pickle, and I'm hoping there are some folks here who can help me.

First, background. I'm taking a class this semester called History of Graphic Design. Our big project is to create 4 posters, all based around an assigned theme (Travel, Concert, Propaganda, Movies, etc), emulating the different styles we learn about. Just about anything goes as far as who or what the subject matter is, since their only use is for this class.

I got Recruiting as my theme. I know the groups I want to use, and that's where you come in. As much as I've tried, my graphics card simply doesn't have the power to take the high-res screenshots I need as a starting point, and there weren't many decent ones on the web.

If anyone has good shots of:
    The Sky Raiders
    The Nemesis Army
    The Carnival of Shadows
    The Freakshow
I'll be eternally greatful. If all goes to plan, I'll post the finished products here. Thanks in advance to anyone who can lend a hand!
