  1. Happy Birthday, Steele Magnolia!

And have many more happy birthdays in the future!

    Ranged/Armor AT!

    Dual Pistols / Traps Corruptor.

You get Force Field drone (or whatever it's called, I forget). Take Combat Jumping and throw a KB protection IO in it. Maybe even slot some IO sets with Defense bonuses.

Now you've got a Ranged AT with defense and mez protection.

Also, this is a laptop. When was the last time you took a can of compressed air and dusted it out?

The sound device appears to be the IDT/Sigmatel and doesn't appear to have a newer driver that I can find.
Ok, I thought that my graphics drivers were still up to date. I'll go to the Nvidia site and download the latest drivers. Is there anything else I should download other than the driver from the Nvida site?

As to cleaning, I clean the fan pad the laptop sits on every week, and I vacuum the laptop out at the same time.

I was concerned that the laptop was overheating, but I've been using a sidebar program that monitors my GPU temp. With the reduced graphics settings my GPU temp never gets above 140 degrees (fahrenheit) while playing CoH. I occasionally play another MMO where my GPU temp routinely gets to around 155 degrees and it's never been a problem.

Thank you very much for your help sir.
  4. I recently resubscribed and was having no problems running the game in medium Ultra-Mode settings.

Since the July 15th patch that was supposed to fix the "rare crash bug" my machine occasionally freezes up completely during gameplay. I then have to unplug the power cord to shut down my machine and restart.

I've since turned the Ultra-Mode graphics settings off, and that seemed to fix the problem, but now my machine just froze up again.

If anyone has any help or suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated.

Here's the DXDiag I just ran:

My point was simply that they listened to us, their paying customers, which those people in closed beta most certainly are. Whether or not having a closed beta as opposed to an open one is another debate entirely.

I agree that there are still too many powers in this game that just suck. Do you REALLY want the devs to create more of those kinds of powers? Especially as part of the "content for 50s" system?

Way before Posi formed his little 'strike team', players have been very vocal about what they expected from Inccarnates. The feedback the devs got on Test shouldn't have been surprising and their initial design shouldn't have been so far off the mark.
They probably should, yes. But I think that the devs, and especially Positron, have consistently shown that, for whatever reason, they really do not have a clear picture of what the majority of the player base wants.

Perhaps it's that consistent record of not understanding and not listening to the players (we did warn them about the ways to abuse the AE while it was still in beta after all), that got Positron demoted in the first place. Perhaps this got pulled, not because of some grand conspiracy, but because the new honcho - War Witch - decided to not make the same mistakes as her predecessor, and actually listened to the people complaining in closed beta.

Maybe that's what happened, we'll probably never really know for sure. But you have to admit that it's much more likely than your "Grand Unified Conspiracy Theory."
  6. I've criticized the devs many times in the past because they didn't listen to our feedback. From Positron's post it appears that they actually listened to us this time. I'm really happy to see that.

Also, I much prefer "get it right the first time" over this dev team's more usual "we'll go ahead and let it go live and datamine then maybe we'll revisit it 3 years later".

So overall, I'm happy that they pulled this from GR so that it isn't delayed by this one thing.

I just hope that the Incarnate System, or whatever it's being called now, doesn't end up like the Cathedral of Pain, the SSOCSS, or the major overhaul of bases that we were told was going to be in Issue 13.
  7. Congratulations Sister Twelve!

I ran your story arc several times during the contest. You improved and polished it and turned it into a great story arc.

    Criminal record?

Depending on how the developers write the story line it's entirely possible that a former villain could become accepted by the US authorities as a "good guy."

For example, said villain contacts US authorities (or is contacted by them) and says that he wants a pardon. Said government makes him a deal, "You do X and Y and Z, and bring us proof and in return we'll issue you a pardon." Things like this happen IRL, with former criminals testifying against their co-conspirators in return for immunity and/or witness protection.

In a world where super-powered individuals are even more important to a nation's defense than nuclear weapons I can see the authorities being willing to work with them in this manner. When it's all said and done they then issue the former villain a hero registration card with a new name and a recommendation that he get a new costume. Then he's let go with a warning that he'll be watched to make sure that he doesn't go back to his old ways.

If the authorities have any sense (which is comic book worlds they often don't) they'll then turn the full file over to the Freedom Phalanx or Hero Corps or whichever hero organization they typically work with in these cases, so that they can watch the former villain.

Since he's now technically a hero the other heroes can't legally move against him without being classified as a villain themselves. At least not until the regulating agency receives a report of new villainous activity.
  9. I play CoH/V on a laptop with a 9800M GTS video card.

Any idea if this will run Ultra-Mode? And if so, how well it's likely to do? I understand that we don't have hard data yet, but an idea would help.

    Thanks.
  10. I ran this arc again just a few minutes ago. I noticed the changes you made, and a couple of other things.

In "Roy's Story" (the clue you get from him in the third mission), and in Marrowsnap's dialogue in mission four, you wrote "hadto." Is that deliberate? Like street slang or an accent or something? If it's not deliberate then shouldn't it be "had to"?

Also, I noticed that everyone has a story in the form of a clue. Marrowsnap, Roy, Nadya, Joarxes... everyone except for Tzompantli. Perhaps you might consider writing one for her too. Sure it'd have nothing to do with the plot, but I don't have to tell you that those extra details make a difference. You pretty much have her background covered in her info, so maybe her explanation about what she's been trying to do with the Skulls, or what she was going to do with Roy. I know that I'm not being much help here.

And I think that T Z (pronounced Tee Zee) is the best choice. Zompy might fly, but Konshu is right, the rest of the options sound like feminine hygiene products.
  11. Two Tickets to Westerly #374002

I really liked this story. It's one of the few romance stories I've seen that doesn't come off as junior high school emo. I especially liked the fact that the arc has only four missions. I think that too many authors use all five missions simply because they can, regardless of whether the story really needs to have five missions or not.

I liked the references to roleplaying games in mission 2. I knew that Joarxes was Joe as soon as he yelled out, " These new powers are great! I AM THE ARCH-MAGE OF AWESOME!!" I also liked the optional captives in mission 3. It gives the impression that I'm actually in a Circle of Thorns base, and that they're busy doing what they do. I was a bit surprised to see the Skulls following a leader named Panty, but it made sense in the end. It was a nice little detail.

I could only find a few things to mention, and they are admittedly all minor nits.

The accept mission text for missions 1 and 2 do not have periods at the end of the sentences, while the ones for 3 and 4 do. I recommend changing them to keep them all consistent.

The Nav text for missions 1 and 2 are given as directives - Find someone who knows where Roy is & Search the Steam Tunnels. But the Nav text for missions 3 and 4 are written like story or chapter titles - Decent into the Depths & Against the Death Cult. Once again I think that you should change either the first two or the last two so that they are all written in the same style. Also it's descent, not decent.

I was a little disappointed to encounter Marrowsnap again without explanation in Mission 4. Man did he make bail fast! I was also a bit surprised to see the Skulls using a burning building as their HQ.

Like I said, minor nits were all I could find. That fact, plus the good story and inclusion of neat little details here and there are why I gave it five stars. Good luck in the competition!
  12. If you're still taking requests, I'd like you to try The Hidden Hand Arc# 374410.

No extreme Bosses, EBs, or AVs. It's a story arc, not a scrapper challenge.

I'll run Two Tickets to Westerly later today and send you feedback. I think it's the only one of your MA arcs that I haven't already played.

    That's sig worthy.

Thank you. The truth usually is.

Well to be fair, Fabricator is not a requirement for the Field Crafter accolade. "Only" Master Craftsman (1,000 crafts) is needed for it. The only "official" epic badge required for an accolade is the 4th debt badge. The damage taken one might as well be though. (Both villain side).

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ah... ok. See I thought that I had to get Fabricator in order to get that accolade power that lets me pull a crafting table out of hammerspace.

    [ QUOTE ]
The sad thing is that while the developers seem to want to stretch out the time it takes to get badges, they are shooting themselves in the foot by putting them so far out of reach that players just give up. The carrot doesn't work if it is too far out of sight.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well that and the way they're alienating people by making changes that go completely against specific statements they've made in the past and then refusing to post any explanation on the forums.

I mean seriously, just exactly which community is Ex Libris supposted to be coordinating with? Cause so far she sure as heck hasn't been coordinating with this one.
  16. I think that the worst side effect of these changes is this:

Not what it does to the badge community, but what it does to the regular playerbase.

I'm a perfect example of this. I'm not a badger, but at one point I thought that one of my characters might be able to get Fabricator. I was actually looking forward to it. I like the accolade powers, even that silly freeze pistol that you get off the Crey that never hits anything.

But now I know that I will never get Fabricator. 10,000 crafts? Sorry, I probably won't craft 10,000 things over the entire lifespan of this game. I'm a casual player, remember us? Because of that Empath and Fabricator will forever be out of my reach.

Master Craftsman isn't impossible for a character to get sub-40, especially if they are crafting for most of their levelling. That series of badges counts ANY use of a crafting table (converting base salvage as well), and the other badges needed for the Accolade get you almost halfway to Master Craftsman on their own.

I would put this in my signature, but it makes the signature too long with what I have to have in there now.

Consider it quoted for good measure.

What does Positron have to say about this?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, I hope that you all are ok with being quoted in my signature.
  18. This Live Patch has introduced more bugs than it has fixed.

Many of the items that were supposedly changed were not actually changed!

You've caused way more technical problems that you've solved.

Just in time for Double XP Weekend!

    Brilliant!!!

I just recently got my 27 month vet reward, so it's gonna be awhile before I see the City Traveller badge on any of my characters.

That being said I think this is a great vet reward. Yes, it will give 5 year vets a little bit of an advantage that I don't have: one extra power pick for their characters. So? Anyone who gets this badge has paid the money to keep their subscription active for 5 solid years. I think that anyone who's paid that much and stayed with this game that long deserves a few perks. They've earned the ability to have a little bit more versatility with their characters than I do.

Good job devs! Good job making a handy vet reward that does give those long time vets a bit of a step up that also isn't game breaking in any way.

    IMHO
  20. Sure enough.

I just tested this while standing in group of Clockwork in Kings Row. It does indeed fire, but only while enemies are within range.

Now I wonder if I wouldn't get more mileage out of it by putting it into Focused Accuracy. Since it's bugged and doesn't work while I'm exempted anyway.
  21. <QR>

I have a Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control PROC in Invincibility on my Tanker. I monitor all of the channels with various tabs, but I've never seen in fire off. Finally I sat in my base with Invincibility on for about 2 hours while I surfed the net. I then went back through the chat tabs. Nothing.

Does it actually work? If so, is it just that it doesn't PROC in Invincibility unless there's a target in range?

I upgraded my account with the new Mac Pac, and I only have one complaint. A trivial cosmetic complaint, but it irritates me a bit. The new Vakyrie costume clips with pretty much every single shield in existance. Anything that can be done about that?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I purchased the Mac Pac a few days ago myself. I don't have a Mac, I just wanted the costume set and Mission Teleporter.

My complaints are also that the gloves clip with shields and the prestige wings (part of the Valkyrie set) clip with the Valkyrie sets' own skirt. What the heck? A costume set that clips with itself??? Other than that the costume set looks great.

Another thing is that a lot of the new costume sets look really similar. The chest peice from the Valkyrie set for example looks almost exactly like the Enforcer chest peice. It'd be nice to see some sets that look different.

Peregrine Falcon, are you sure you don't just have the Hide Recipes Missing Ingredients box checked on the drop down at the vendor? I can pull up all the prices for every recipe out there with a toon that has exactly zero merits on them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Whoops. I just logged on and it looks like that's exactly what was happening. Thanks.

I withdrawn that objection, but now I have another.

Stuff costs WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY too many merits. My Scrapper will be 50 before I have enough merits to get anything. You know, actually getting to use some of those set IOs would make the game a lot more fun than simply staring at them in the window.
  24. Ah... I see the mistake I made with my wording. I should have made it clear that I am not talking about random rolls.

I'm talking specifically about wanting to save my merits up and get a special IO recipe. But I have no idea how many merits I need, so I have no idea how long it will take or what to shoot for.

My character has like 34 or 36 merits. How much does a Steadfast Protection +3% Special Defense IO cost? 50 merits? 400? I don't know because meritdude won't show me the full list. The only thing that I see is stuff that I can already afford, which is basically nothing. Sad, discouraging, not fun.

And there's no way in Hades I'm gonna spend the merits on a random 'Pool D' roll. What the heck is a Pool D? And where are pools A, B and C? Yes, I actually do know what they are, but a lot of people who just play the game and don't spend time on the forums have no idea.

And yes, I could just go to ParagonWiki to look up the merit costs I suppose. Heaven forbid if anything actually be documented in game. Imagine being a new player trying to figure all of this out.
