  1. Let's see....

Approximately 100,000 subscribers TIMES $15 a month EQUALS 1.5 Million US Dollars a month.

Yeah, no way in heck they could possibly afford to have a TV commercial air during the Heros TV show or put a commercial on the screen as the preview to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

I mean after all... if you can't afford it and you can't be certain you'll hit your target demographic why bother. Right? That clicking sound you're hearing is my eyes rolling in my head.

MySpace may indeed be free, and you get what you pay for.
  2. Advertising 101.

    Forget [censored]Space.

If you really want people to hear about your product. Shell out the dough for a Television Commercial.

So 360 people 'friended' your site, so what? 300 million people watch TV in this country.

    Aim small, miss small.
  3. People have been asking you guys to update the CoH/CoV main page to be updated since I first started coming to these forums. Instead of doing that you're going to spend time creating a MySpace page.

I know you guys want advertisement and more players, but does CoH/CoV really need more players of the type that typically haunt MySpace?

"Sorry, don't have time to fix the Cathedral of Pain. Too busy responding to friend's requests for the MySpace page."

    RAOFLMAO!

First off any build can be good in PvP depending how u build it and play it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's just not true Magic718. There's a reason that most Scrappers in the zones are Regen and not SR. I love my little MA/SR Scrapper, but there's no way in [censored] that she can survive what my BS/Regen Scrapper can. I don't care who's playing her or how I337 your skillz are.

I truly get that PvP is balanced around teams, not one-on-one. So some ATs simply can't survive against other ATs, and that's fine. My BS/Regen can take on 4 villains and win. That's kill one or two of the villains and escape from the others without dying himself, I consider that a win. Occasionally he'll take 3 or even all 4 of them. I PvP fairly often, but not enough to even try to claim possession of 1337 PvP skillz. My MA/SR Scrapper often wins or loses in a one-on-one confrontation. 2 or more villains and I'm guaranteed to lose.

    [ QUOTE ]
    1. SR will never get a heal...ever. Arcana's gotten this too.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This makes me sad EvilGeko. Oh well, now if SR could get an endurance discount power (since its toggles are THE most expensive to run of all the Scrapper sets) and some actual resistance to slows in PvP I'd be one happy camper. I can see my Regen Scrapper being slowed, but SR is supposed to be about speed, it's supposed to have resistance to being slowed. If SR's lack of survivability were made up for by its ability to maintain unsuppressed movement I'd call that "balance." Or certainly close enough.

Personally I believe that the reason Super Reflexes' total lack of survivability in PvP hasn't been addressed by the Devs isn't because they really enjoy our pain. I believe it's simply because they don't know how to fix it. Not in a way that will make a difference without making them teh uBer in PvE.

To the OP: I believe it unlikely that the Devs will respond in this thread. Not because they dislike you. Not because they don't care about their customers. But because of simple human psychology. First is the natural human reaction of "Call me out? Who the [censored] does this guy think he is?" I don't care who you are, if you aren't dead you're going to have this reaction to some degree. Second is the precident they know it will set. "Great. Since we responded to this guy's demand thread yesterday there are now 1321 other threads DEMANDING a response."

Don't quit the game because the Devs don't deign to respond to your demands. Quit the game because you no longer have fun playing it. Or stay. At least until another MMO comes along that isn't a WoW ripoff.
  5. This is an AWESOME guide. I hope it is stickied and remains where everyone can see it forever!

Let's list all of its good points shall we?

    1) No factual data at all. ("I'm not good at math!")

    2) The entire guide is the OP's personal experience which is completely at odds not only with the factual data but with other people's experience as well.

    3) When this gets pointed out the author of said guide abandons all veneer of courtesy and becomes aggressive and insulting.

    4) Since the information listed in this "Guide" is at total odds with reality I personally consider it not just worthless but worry that someone may read it and actually take any of the OP's advice seriously.

    5) Axe to the face for the win baby!!!

This post is not only the personal opinion of it's author but also contains factual data.
  6. I've played the game almost every single day since Issue 9 went live.

I've done a dozen Task Forces hero side. Seven or Eight of those times I received a Pacing of the Turtle recipe.

I've done six Task Forces/Strike Forces whatever Villain side. Five out of those six times I receive a Pacing of the Turtle recipe.

Not one costume drop. Only one temp power drop.

I guess I can't complain too much since I've made millions selling magic common salvage I get for street sweeping Circle of Thorns.

Between the Ultra-Rare drop rates and the complex math needed to figure out just what the IO sets will do for you I have to say the claim that this system is "Casual Player Friendly" is just laughable.

Maybe if I ran 12 Task Forces a day on multiple characters for 30+ days in a row then maybe I'd have gotten a costume drop by now.

Maybe if the prices of the common IO recipes which are available for sale at the University for retardedly high prices weren't so expensive then maybe I'd fill up with common IOs. I won't blame the Devs for the prices of salvage to make those IOs cause those prices are set by the players, and will eventually come down. The recipe prices available in the University are WAY TOO HIGH. Something that we told them during the closed testing, but as usual the reports of the testers was ignored.
  7. I've been "street sweeping" Circle of Thorns off and on with my SR Scrapper for the last two weeks. I generally do it for about 30 minutes to an hour. Depending on when I get a team invite or I get bored and start running missions.

I've made millions selling common magic salvage. The uncommon and rare stuff goes into the vault until I decide what to do with it.
  8. Two out of Five stars from me for Issue 9.

    Pros:
<ul type="square">[*]New trams to zones that really needed them[*]Stores in Kings Row. Thank you whoever did that![*]New Emotes.[/list]Cons:
<ul type="square">[*]No new powersets[*]No new missions[*]More bugs introduced[*]Costume parts too rare[*]Temp Powers too rare[*]Personal storage isn't[*]IO Sets penalize level 50 characters[*]Common IOs not worth the effort or Influence[/list]
Let me explain what I mean when I say that common IOs aren't worth anything.

For less than 100k I can purchase 3 plus three SOs. These will add up to +94.74% after E.D. This is good, now Eagles Claw does 277.77 damage! For several million (including both recipes and salvage) I can craft 3 level 50 IOs. They will add up to +99.08% after E.D. or 283.96 damage. Woot! An extra 6.19 points of damage!!!! And it only cost me 3 million Influence.

For schedule B enhancements I can purchase 3 plus three SOs, once again for under 100k. They add up to +56.74% after E.D., raising my Focused Fighting up to 21.71% Melee Defense. Now for a few million I can get 3 level 50 IOs that will total a grand total of +58.475% after E.D. This brings Focused Fighting up to an incredible 21.99% Melee Defense. That AWESOME extra 0.2% Defense only cost me a few million! That rocks! I can't believe the Devs spent hundreds or possibly thousands of man-hours creating such an incredibly worthless item!!

What's that? I can always get IO sets you say? Sorry, after nine months of active play I still don't have any 50s. So I don't have a few Billion lying around to outfit my characters with. Even if I did (or if they were more expensive) I still don't think I'd do it. The sets prevent me from slotting my powers the way I want them slotted, I must slot them with the set to get the bonus. What if I don't want to slot endurance reduction into my auto power? What if I don't want to slot Recharge Rate in a toggle power? On top of that the set bonuses are so small that you need 10 to 20 of them to make a noticable difference. Also, as has been pointed out by many people on this forum, some powersets can really fill up on the IO sets while others can't because IO sets for their powers don't exist.

I'd love to have a gadgeteer hero that spends time collecting and using a lot of temp powers. Like Batman his inventory of available items would be constantly changing. Sometime he'd have just the thing that's needed for the situation, sometimes he'd have to make due with what he's got. Unfortunately this is impossible. The Temp Powers (both from Mayhem/Safeguards/Task Forces, and the I9 ones) are rare, expensive, and often can't be obtained a second time. Making this type of play impossible.

If it weren't for the stores in Kings Row ( THANK YOU!!! ) I'd give Issue 9 a zero out of five.

    Edit: Forgot the new emotes.
  9. I just love how many people aren't even commenting on the subject. Instead all they're doing is commenting negatively on my posts because I had the gall to disagree with a Dev.

Now I remember why I wanted to stay on the forums.
  10. I like your idea of new tilesets heliumphoenix. I'd love to see some of the tilesets that are already in the game be made available for SG bases.

New tilesets for missions would be great. I'd like to see them in conjunction with new mission maps, preferably ones that are randomly generated. Randomly generating maps (within certain guidelines set by the programmers) adds a lot of "new content" with less effort. It also helps fight the boredom by preventing the situation wherein everyone has the whole map memorized.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh. So it was. My mistake.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
All I read here was 'You addressed and responded to the post idea with positive encouragement and a logical answer but Im still going to complain because this game is DOOOOOOOM'd and youre a sell out cause youre making MUO and DOOOOOOOOOOM!'

    That sums it up, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Wrong.

What I did was respond to Positron's post. I mentioned that I don't think it'd be as manpower intensive as Positron states. And I suggested a possible time frame for work to begin on this project. How exactly is this dOOOOm?

I realize of course that my statements are just my opinion, and Positron is certainly in a better position to know just how manpower intensive a project would be than I am. That combined with my low post count and my lack of a level 50 character will certainly lead a number of people to discount my posts no matter how sensible they are. This isn't going to stop me from stating my opinion.

It is my belief that the forum is here for all of us to state our opinions, not for all of us to simply agree with yours.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
The problem with OK'ing submissions is partially an issue because of manpower. Depending on the number of submissions, you'd need people entirely devoted to reviewing, approving and ultimately putting that stuff into the game. That's not trivial, to be honest, when dealing with 100,000+ subscribers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This can't be anymore of a problem than creating the content yourself. In fact if anything it'd be much less manpower intensive. It's going to work because the game tools provided ensure that it must. The only thing you'd have to do it skim the text to make sure it doesn't contain improper language, and then play the mission once to see what you think of it. Once you pick one you like add it to test. If there's any problems the players will certainly find them.

    [ QUOTE ]
We've always talked about ways to get player material into the game...imagine using the base creator tools to make your own missions! Or a your own training room? Maybe some day we can figure a way to put this stuff into the game. The imagination just on these forums alone is so amazing; I can only hope we find a way an outlet for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, perhaps once you guys are done working on the Marvel MMO then you'll have the time and resources to work on this idea.
  14. I think this would be a great idea if implemented correctly.

Say they make an in game mission editor - much like the base editor only it doesn't suck.

Then once you build the map and place spawns you get the option to add clickies, chose the mission type, and finally type in the text that shows when you first enter the mission.

Once done your character (and anyone on your team) has the ability to play this mission. There are no rewards, just fun. Each character can "store" one custom mission.

When you think it's ready you choose the option to submit it to the Devs.

Now say once a month they put one of these user created missions on test. You'd get it from a specific contact that anyone can talk to. The Devs get feedback on the mission from players and if the feedback is mostly good then it gets added to the game on the next update.

Hey that's great and all but... 1) I already knew this was coming. As does anyone else that reads the forums. 2) Your [censored] giant [censored] window popping up right in the middle of a big hairy battle I was in almost got me killed.

The Invention system makes characters stronger, more diverse, and...

    [/ QUOTE ]
While I appreciate the effort that went into this issue I have a problem with how the Super Reflexes and to a lesser extent Energy Aura powersets will be adversely affected by Invention Origin Enhancements. It is my hope that a redname will speak about this problem in the forums before Issue 9 goes live.

Other than that one (very important IMHO) issue I like the additions to the game that Issue 9 represents. And in particular I want to say; "Thank you for fixing the base kick bug."
  20. My version of this list:

    1. Communicate with your teammates:
    A) Be polite to your teammates. Treat them the way you want them to treat you.
    B) For those of you that are under the age of 18 either physically or mentally reread A and then get up from your computer and go have someone explain it to you.
    C) Talk with your teammates, break the ice and get to know them a little.
    D) If you can't type fast then make some macros or keybinds that say stuff like "Behind us!", "Incoming!" etc. And use them.
    E) Let your team know what you can do. Let them know what your Buffs and Debuffs do before the battle begins.

    2. Be a good leader or give up the star:
    A) Recuit a balanced team. All of the ATs can contribute to survivability and damage output.
    B) Deal with the team you have not the one you wish you had. Adapt your tactics to what your team can do.
    C) Make your intentions and planned tactics clear to everyone.
    D) Make sure everyone knows who the "Point Man" is. Usually the Tanker or buffed Scrapper.
    E) Listen to your teammates when they offer advice. Judge said advice based on how it sounds not on how many veteran badges they have.
    F) If one member is causing problems send him a tell, let him know politely yet firmly to stop doing whatever is causing the problem.
    G) If that doesn't work say it again. Politely and even more firmly, and say it in the team window so your teammates know you're addressing the problem.
    H) If that doesn't work kick the troublemaker before he drives the rest of your team away.

    3. Don't aggro the enemy until you're ready:
    A) Never chase a runner.
    B) Check corners before going around them.
    C) Always take the back elevator.
    D) Don't enter the center of the room until you've checked its edges.
    E) Pan the camera out and around as much as possible.
    F) Look up.

    4. Don't get in over your head:
    A) Pull when necessary.
    B) Don't get ahead of the Tank.
    C) Always let your mentor go through any door or elevator first.
    D) Always make sure all defensive toggles are on before clicking on any door or elevator.
    E) Make sure everyone is ready (not resting or AFK) before taking that next mob on.

    5. Think of the team before thinking of yourself:
    A) Give Inspirations that you don't use to your teammates.
    B) Warn your sidekick before leaving the mission or going to the hospital.
    C) If you're having a problem with a teammate argue about it after the battle. If you can't resolve it leave the team.
    D) Follow the team leader's orders.
    E) If you don't like the way the leader is doing things or the way the team is acting say something.
    F) If that doesn't work quit the team and either find a new one or make one of your own.
    G) Unless it's an emergency let everyone know that you're going AFK.
    H) Unless it's an emergency don't go AFK during a battle.

    6. Look out for yourself too:
    A) If it is an emergency do what you have to do and remember this is only a game.
    B) Go into a building or down the elevator before going AFK.
    C) If you have to go AFK outside stand near a drone or on top of a tall building.
    D) Click on your teammates and find out what their powers are.
    E) Always make sure your Teleport Prompt is ON when you're in a PUG.
    F) Heal up between fights.
    G) Always stay within range of the Defender's powers, whatever they may be.
    H) If someone yells; "Run!" and you're not a Regen Scrapper then run!
    I) If your mentor and one or more team members is down and you're not a Regen Scrapper then run!
    J) If you see the Tanker running away and you're not a Regen Scrapper then run!

    7) Knowledge is power:
    A) Check the map frequently, know where your teamates are, know where the exits are.
    B) If you encounter a mob that you know nothing about click on it and find out about it.
    C) If someone can stealth ahead always let them, even if you don't plan on porting to the end of the mission.
    D) Ask your teammates for advice. If you're RPing the arrogant know-it-all then do it OOC.

    8) Use good tactics:
    A) Use all of the buffs you have. If you have to wait a few seconds until AM or Fort is back up then wait.
    B) Let all of the debuffers do their thing before you go in. If you need to wait a few seconds for Flash Arrow or Trip Mine then wait.
    C) Stay back around the corner unless you are the one pulling. No really! All the way around the corner!
    D) Let the Tanker go in and get the aggro before you open up with your AoE monster.
    E) Don't go out in front of the caltrops your teammate just layed down.
    F) Don't immoblize targets whose attacks you can't resist, hold them or knock them down/back.
    G) Don't use an enemy who can teleport as your "anchor".
    H) Don't leave the rest of the party to save that errant Scrapper.
    I) Tankers are nice to have, but you still need to watch your own aggro.
    J) Tankers and Scrappers should jump over the enemy as they engage them, so enemy cone attacks don't hit the rest of the team.
    K) If you're squishy stay away from the Tanker, the enemy has AoE's too.
  21. For the purposes of this post I'll take WANT to mean "Realistically Expect."

    [ QUOTE ]
    1) You have the default To Hit value (ie no buffs), your target has no Defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Lacking accuracy and to hit buffs of any sort I expect to hit an even con Minion 60% of the time, an even con Lieutenant or Player 50% of the time, and an even con Boss or AV 40% of the time.

    [ QUOTE ]
    2) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has no defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

    [/ QUOTE ]
With maximum accuracy and to hit buffs against zero defense I should hit everything 95% of the time.

    [ QUOTE ]
    3) You have the default To Hit value, and your target has the maximum possible defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Lacking any accuracy and to hit buffs against maximum defense I should hit 5% of the time.

    [ QUOTE ]
    4) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has the maximum possible defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Max accuracy and max to hit versus max defense should even out to a chance to hit of 50%.
  22. I am so disappointed. I would love to pick up a power pool that lets my characters disarm the base security system. Or disable the power causing the lights to go out.

    Man that would rock!

    *sigh*
  23. Shortly after Issue 9 goes live here's what's going to happen.

The rich PvPers will stack their characters with + Acc and + ToHit set bonuses.

Invulnerability Scrappers will be able to use set bonuses to get their Defense to higher levels than Super Reflexes Scrappers. And of course they will still have the Resistances which */SR Scrappers do not.

Super Reflexes Scrappers will be able to use set bonuses to get Perma-Hasten and near-perma-Elude. But it won't make the slightest bit of difference because the PvPers will have so much + Acc bonuses stacked on their characters that they'll still be able to hit Super Reflexes Scrappers running Elude 93.5% of the time.

Which means that */SR Scrappers will go from So-So Scrapper in PvP to squishier than a Blaster!

My MA/SR Scrapper is one of my favorite characters. I am an occasional PvPer, now I will not ever be able to take this character into a PvP zone. The */SR Scrapper will be as squishy as a Blaster but at least a blaster can use ranged attacks. The */SR Scrapper cannot, and since melee attacks generally do more damage than ranged attacks that means that the */SR Scrapper will take more damage faster than a Blaster. So like I said, */SR Scrappers become squishier than Blasters.

And no one can figure out why I'm not looking forward to Issue 9...
  24. [ QUOTE ]
All of the snipes work around a 4 sec 'activation'. Interrupts can basically wittle this down to 2 secs, or 1.72ish secs, so you hit the Snipe, wait for it to release, then fire whatever else you want at whoever you want.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My understanding is that Reduce Interrupt Enhancements do just and only that. They reduce the amount of time in which the power can be interrupted. They do not reduce the actual animation time.
