Quote:I understand completely. If you think that low-grade mez protection is an "I win button" then you aren't going to understand. It isn't an "I win" for scrappers, it isn't an "I win" for tankers, it isn't an "I win" for VEATs, and it isn't an "I win" for defenders.
Understand now?
You just don't understand AT "roles". A tanker goes in and draws (keyword) aggro. Scrappers go into melee (keyword) range for damage output and even draw aggro via confront. Even VEATs have confront. Their "roles" are to ACTIVELY draw aggro from the rest of the team. They can't perform their roles while under status effect - that is the design of the game. Understand now? You mention frustration later, how about a tank that is permaheld each and every mob group in a mission. Yeah, real fun there.
Quote:Challenge is fun and good. Being unable to react to a situation because of a bad random roll is not. Imagine if melee characters had no immobilize protection. Not stuns and holds, just immobilize. Then imagine that the enemy AI was designed to immobilize and kite. Frustrating, huh? There's a difference between "challenging" and "cheap."
Quote:Tsoo Ink men in a pack of 3? Even better, 2 ink men and a sorceror/spirit? Sappers? (remember when they weren't limited to 1 per spawn? Got changed because, surprise, people hated being out of END- unable to play their characters...)
Quote:Mostly agreed. The game isn't hard. It's even easier if you're playing an AT with defense, offense, and mez protection. Take any of those away, and it doesn't make things harder, just slows things down. Without defense, you're succeptible to being defeated a lot. Without offense, you advance glacially slow.
And without mez protection, you get annoyed. A lot. And it gets you defeated if you don't have the crutch the devs provided instead of actually fixing mez to make it less ridiculously broken (and yes, it's broken both ways - remember, nobody likes fighting statues, and nobody likes BEING statues.)
And edited to add: Thanks for the -rep and the absurd comment about mez protection being an "I win" button, to whomever anonymous sent it. -
Quote:Well, this shows me you never played a blaster. Please don't say you have otherwise you would know you can still attack with DEFv2.0. Yes, even mezzed, I am still on top of my game and use the other tools in the game to win. If I, on the rare occassion, run into bad luck and die, then what? NOTHING. It's a game remember. If you miss on your alpha-strike, your mezzer is not dead... and you just got yourself 'statue-itis' and soon to be 'dead-itis.'
You go from 'top of my game' to ground-sucking PDQ.
On a full team while I'm in melee? Pretty normal actually. No matter what Controllers think or wish, their days of solo locking down full teams is a mere memory.
And again, please show me this missing business. If you are having issues, I suggest 3 Dam/3 Acc slotting, which leaves the 5% always a chance (that's 1 in 20).
Again, I have a number of so-called squishies that have no mezz protection and solo just fine "at the top of my game." -
Okay, I miss. Big deal. I have a blaster at 50. I keep using my attacks. A blaster has an inherent that lets you. I have taken on mezzers in all kinds of forms before. And guess what...I dinged 50 still.
You are going to hit way more often than you miss - would you like to deny that? -
Quote:I am with Clouded here. Just why did you open with an immobilize that allows the mobs to still attack?EDIT: Why are you putting RoF on a Mezzer? AIM + Blaze + FireSword, etc his a$$ before he see's you. This isn't rocket science.
You have a snipe, Aim, and BU, well before Level 30 when Rikti spawn. I have a blaster to at 50 and take out the mezzer first with my most powerful ranged attacks then mop up minions afterwards. I would never use my Level 1 power on mezzers as an opener. -
Quote:Trying reading and understanding again and not:According to penny, mez protection IS an i win button. She said so.
Quote:put words in other peoples mouths
Quote:Mezzers in every spawn, each of which must be dealt with first, and have to be taken out perfectly, is frustrating. Sooner or later, you will miss. Then, they take away your ability to play the game and curb-stomp you.
That is the biggest problem some posters are not getting. Within every AT, there are some really powerful combinations. Adding on top of that would make they way more powerful (like my fire/rad corr).
So, and being clear, I did not state that mezz protection is an I win button and don't put words in my mouth. -
Quote:I can't but read this as every AT can solo and defeat mobs, mezzers or not if they use what is available like their powers or other things like dual builds (one for soloing and one for teaming).I cant but read this as "I have an I win button and dont want anyone else to even in the smallest fashion"
My controller can defeat mobs that my scrapper (an AT with mezz protection) can not (DRM for example). My scrapper can defeat mobs that my controller can not (MI for example). The Vanguard rebels beat my scrapper (again, the one with the mezz protection) silly. My controller didn't have the same issues.
My D3 defender makes my emp/psi defender cry with the mobs she defeats, but my emp/psi defender was the one everyone wanted to team with.
My ice/cold corruptor waltzes through missions that my dark/therm corruptor struggles at.
My MM's (an AT without mezz protection) laughs at all my toons together while they solo AVs.
I would like to see some information where there is an AT & powerset that is unable to solo and getting "curbstomped" by "minions". For me, my "weakest" toons would be my emp/psi def and dark/therm corr - both at 50 - and they can solo and are not IO'd out. -
Quote:I can't but read this as only "I want an I win button".A single mez is an annoyance. A single mezzer is an annoyance. Mezzers in every spawn, each of which must be dealt with first, and have to be taken out perfectly, is frustrating. Sooner or later, you will miss. Then, they take away your ability to play the game and curb-stomp you. I like challenge, I enjoy it, but that isn't challenging: it's win or lose on a random roll of the dice.
Of course the game has some challenge at the higher levels. That is by it's design, otherwise, we would be fighting Hellions all the way to 50. This is the "risk" for our "reward".
I have yet to hear anyone say "wow, I just can't defeat those minions." I will grant that an AV/EB or even a boss could be a pain to some ATs/powersets and need some help either from a temp like a Shivan or get a team together.
Yes, you will miss every so often and get in over your head and have a faceplant. The posters I have read in this thread all know that. Players have played every AT and powerset combo and know you will faceplant. But in the end, you will win the vast majority of times over the mobs in this game no matter what you play.
It's not that hard of a game. That "curbstomping" isn't that common if a player uses the tools that are available and takes a moment to plan. Only time I see it is when a player takes on way more they can handle (say using +4/+8 settings). If it is, I am suprised it hasn't been discovered by now. -
Quote:No you don't because you also said:If you want to be rude go somewhere else - lrn2play is NOT a valid counter arguement and just makes you look like an ***. Also, brush up on your reading skills. I specifically said I didn't expect to be as safe as a scrapper and I am willing to put in a reasonable amount of work to deal with mezzers - however as it stands now even if I do everything PERFECTLY there is still a chance that a single hit from a minion will cause my death on many corruptors and defenders. Added to the already slower soloing ability of these archetypes this bottoms out thier playability in my book
I DO know how to play the game...
Quote:There are also many kinds of defender and corruptors who have NO way real way to deal with mezzers short of hoping they miss.
This whole idea of mezz protection is simply not needed. My blaster can snipe to take out a mezzer from range. My controller holds them. My defenders and corruptors have a variety of tools to stop mezzers. My WS (which doesn't use dwarf form) deals with mezzers when soloing. My 2 MM's just sends in the pets. My non-perma dom is just fine outside domination. -
Quote:And they would still be least wanted because they are NOT NEEDED.Heh. That would be a way to ramp up the desire for Set IOs no one wants. Add +4 Mag protection to either stun or hold. Make sure its in the least wanted ranged attack or hold.
Like so many in this thread have stated, this game is already easy enough and the so-called squishies have all the tools and options to deal with mobs to defeat them.
This thread has really gone to a ridiculous point now. -
Gasps!!!
EB, maybe I should set up some all def STFs for you (if you still have your defender) to try some night on Victory.
Heck, I use to have a link to a SS of an all def MSTF about a year or so ago. On my Darkstorm STF (6 dark/2 storm defs), we just debuffed and ignored LR and took the towers down, then him right afterwards w/o bothering to tank him. So yeah, defenders can handle LR but in their own fashion.
And on a side note, I have been on enough STF to have seen LR tanked by each of the tanker primaries and would say any tanker can tank LR. -
Quote:Have a graduated mez protection rating. If a melee has 0 team members they get x amount of mez prot. if there are 2-4 they get y amount. 5-7 they get z amount. 8 members they get 3 time z. Make teaming beneficial for all toons, not just the squishies. They should seriously look at the defender inherent. Make it something that rewards good defender play instead of poor. This would revitalize teaming and help make COX a more interactive place instead of being split between those that can handle +4 x8 spawns and the gimps.
How about "No". I solo and I team and don't have to worry about my playstyle or my toon in either case - be it one of my defenders or my tank or my WS or whatever I feel like at that time.
Your suggestion would put players all over the place. I am soloing and get a tell to join a team, with 5 players. Okay, I join. The team does a mission then breaks, and I go to soloing. I get a tell for another team, with 2 players. We play and the leader recruits more over time. Now the numbers are changing. People come on the team, people leave the team. Eventually team breaks up and I am solo again. I see on global TF forming and join up. Back again on a team. Is a respec with 4? An STF with 8? etc.?
Current system has me playing my toon the way I want too and having fun. I would probably need some kind of worksheet for all my AT (I have one of each at least) and the different effects of teaming has and would be a hassle. -
I thought global channels were capped at 2500 members. This was a problem on Victory for a popular global channel and they had to create a new one to handle the extras.
Unless they give this new global a much larger cap, I would imagine people not allowed to join in a relatively short time frame since players may not leave the channel or players quitting and again not leaving the channel.
Now, for a server broadcast, I could see that as a better solution, but runs into the problem of red and blue (and whatever color GR is).
Only other point I can think to add is to really stress the global channels better, maybe even a "global" contact tutorial that directs a player to a bulletin board with global channels (don't know if you can sort via server). I have been here 5+ years, and I can't even begin to imagine what a new player starting today would experience with regards to trying to communicate with other channels and finding new, long term friends. Probably should also stress to new players about the forums and that they check their servers forums out in detail to help LTF or other such events. -
If you could start later (~830PM), then I could bring a tank or blaster. But let majority rule if you want to start at 8.

You saw his apology, right?

Hamster, as in Viv's thread, I promised to be part of her MITF run at 9. If that doesn't get enough people, I will be around if you need more to fill.
-
Thanks Viv. I promised last week to run it again, so sticking with that.
Will put myself on backup to Hamster's since his is an hour later.
Voo ran a MITF on Wednesday, so I am done with my emp def (why, oh why!, did I choose an emp def for my blue masters toon???). So up next would be my ice/cold corruptor.
After that corruptor, wide open for ATs. Just want to get that MBSF for the ice/cold corr and be done with the new masters for now. -
Any update Viv if you still want to run this? Still giving your MITF my first choice if it is on and will remove myself from Hamster's ITF.

Quote:A scrapper or brute has lots of damage also. That must = control. They must not need mez protection. That is using your own logic.
Sigh, that is not even close...
In short, you chose a primary and secondary that has damage as its way of controlling. This means you kill faster. The other blaster sets don't equal the damage output of fire therefore they are balanced by other means - stuns, KB, KD, etc.
Every AT has a sprectrum of powers. You picked an *extreme* in the blaster sets. Would you have asked what hard controls you have if you had an ice/ice blaster? Fire doesn't have the *traditional* controls like holds and so forth. It makes up elsewhere.
And yes, scrappers/brutes can control by damage in the same sense as a fire/fire blaster. But to say that blasters don't have hard controls when you pick the one exception is a not accurate. Using an example on the opposite end of the spectrum, it would be like me saying corruptors need buffs because my dark/therm (what I consider a weak toon) is hard to play solo. My ice/cold, fire/rad, and son/kin corruptors would love to see those buffs.
Edit:
Decided to add one more point that tanker/brutes/scrappers (even VEATs) can purposely take aggro via taunt/confront as part of their AT powers. So in order to make this viable to use and "protect the squishies" and peel off aggro, they need to be able to use it. If they are under status effects, then no taunt/confront, which could be team wipes. -

Quote:what hard control does my fir/fire blaster have. I missed that on the power selection page. Ring of fire is a immob, not a hold.
Ooooooh, but you do. It is called damage. I suggest you check out blaster powers. Did you know they have holds (ice/ice can have 3 between primary and secondary), disorients, KB, KD, sleep, stun? You are telling me those are not controls?
You picked a primary and secondary that has damage/DoT as its "controls". A fair trade.
I wonder what hard controls you would have had if you went fire/EM?
Edit: Keep going ClawsandEffect - agreeing with your posts. -
10 is fine with me. Still waiting on Viv's final word for her TF, but would be up for this she decides not to run her MITF.
