Thanks Voo for setting up. Quite a change in the normal runs I have done and a lot of fun.
What is interesting is that I have been on a few ITFs with all melees (brutes/scrappers) and me as a corr or def (and ones that are not "healers"), and those have almost no issues. I am a little stunned how one toon would change the results we saw last night.
Forget all tanker, I want to see all brute SMASH ITF now lol! -
Hmm, very nice idea. Would like to see happen.
If not outside, I wonder if something like a hall of heroes (or villain equivalent) could be set up inside AP City Hall or GV building. This hall would be like the contacts in the AE buildings. From what I can tell there, when I pick an arc, the contact appears to me and the team members, but not to other players, who are running their arcs and seeing their contacts.
I wonder if statues could be like that in that there would be a group of them - yours you paid for, and then fillers either as random or other peoples. So this way you can see your statue, and others will see yours at some point as the fillers.
(no computer experience so just tossing out some thoughts) -
Well, I know I can't help you I just find what works for me.
I know you may get a bit more varied responses, but did you want to take this to the Player's Questions section or a specific AT section? It would broaden the chance of someone knowing the program you are looking for.
Also, for me at least, what is your specific goal? It sounded like soloing an AV with a fire blaster. But are you looking at other powersets/ATs/mobs? As you know, this will impact which attack chain you are looking for. -
If you start a little after 8 (closer to 830), I can join up - either ice/cold, dark/therm, fire/rad, or son/kin.
If not, will be sad I am missing it. -
I just auto-follow Voo and spam heals (with the occassional veng/rez thrown in).
-
I will keep asking based from other threads - why does inherent matter so much on soloing with a defender or a tanker (or even a kheld)? I keep seeing posts like this. Is there some new problem with defenders/tankers or are they not able to do something in the game?
-
Not in favor of this because I feel KB is taken into account for the powers. Changing them to KB/U would be unbalancing.
Overall IMO, KB/U can lock mobs down while you just stand in the same spot safely beating them down. With KB, the mob moves and you have to move if you want to use melee attacks. This will take them out of range for AOEs or you out of range of various powers. I have a few toons with KB and using this toggle would let me KD a mob over and over in safety.
This would also not teach players how to use KB correctly. They would just turn on the toggle and forget about it.
And I use my KB powers for support. I don't want to be told to "turn on your toggle". And what would this do to my powers specifically slotted for KB? -
The only real time I had to play was Friday evening, and was on Hamster's team running the GV arcs. I was hoping to get on last night but my son decided to tell us that he had a poster due for class and has known for a week. Grrr...

Sadly RL is dominating for me. Only 4 levels on my bane (32 to 36).

Quote:Well the devs have to answer the "why". IMO, why not? I said earlier, they are a teamed based AT, their inherent reflects that. They are different from the other ATs. Is that so bad?My question is why do Defenders have to be balanced that way? Why does team power have to preclude solo power? I have no problem with the concept that team power precludes personal power but why does it have to preclude solo power? It is essentially forcing a style of play on people saying if you take this AT you will need to team to play it at full strength. Why does it have to be that way? I'm serious about this by the way, I really do not understand why people think that this is required.
Obviously to some extent we are stuck with the current system in CoH and I can live with that but that doesn't mean that there is no point in looking for ways to improve it. I think it should be possible to increase Defender's solo power without increasing their personal power on a team.
As for their soloing, they can solo. I have yet to see someone demonstrate they can't. Some solo great - my D3 def for example, some not so great like my emp def. I hear rad/son def are incredible, but haven't played one yet. I linked a post by a player on an ff/ele def soloing an orange con EB. Pretty impressive soloing there.
But soloing isn't the defenders place. Look at scrappers. What do they do for teams? They are about the complete opposite of defenders. Why can't they be buffed like my widow and not only melee and have defenses, but something to teams too? But when asked, what AT is recommended to new players that want to solo...scrapper per chance? You want to solo, roll the right toon to do so. -
Quote:I'll ask again - so what? Defenders can solo. Can you prove otherwise? If so, then please fix defenders. If you want a more efficient solo toon, there are plenty to choose from.Regardless of the suggestion in the thread, the simple fact is, Defender's inherent do not work solo, while every single other AT can, even the other 'team-oriented' ATs can still use their inherent solo like the Corruptor and Controller. The only other AT that can make their inherent useless is a Minion-less Mastermind, and even then it's a choice on the character's part.
I don't consider corruptors "team-oriented", or any of the redside toons. They were designed with solo in mind. Corruptors and defenders play completely different - like my cold/ice def vs. my ice/cold corr.
Defenders are balanced by what they bring to teams. Yes, solo they are not the "uberest". But add that defender to a team and look what happens - balance in teaming vs. solo. Do you see teams saying if we only had a few more tanks, we could have beat that TF? Are people broadcasting for more khelds on their teams? Just what do scrappers bring to a team?
Edit -
Just one more point. My MM's solo +4/+8 settings and solo AVs. My brute, stalker, corrX4, dom, or widow can not. Therefore, all those ATs need to be buffed if we use your logic in the OP - right? -
Like another thread in another area, people will play what they want. It doesn't matter what we will roll, re-roll, not roll, etc.
You like tanks. Roll a tank. Like brutes, roll a brute. Like both, roll one of each.
This game doesn't require you to play one AT and be forever stuck using it. -
Quote:Completely disagree here. A good defender won't notice anything because the team is doing so great. What's the difference here? You are mowing down mobs and having fun, so what?I agree that Vigilance is broken. I would go further and say it's worse than useless because it punishes good Defenders by giving them nothing for doing their job well. All the other ATs get some effect for performing their duties well, while only bad Defenders get rewarded.
Quote:Furthermore, as characters improve the importance of End Reduction declines. Once you have Stamina it's not very useful, and fully IOed characters with Stamina rarely have End problems. The other ATs' inherents are always useful regardless of how the character is built.
Quote:The bigger problem for Defenders is getting mezzed. While you can (and I always do) keep several Break Free inspirations on hand, almost by definition Vigilance should provide some kind of mez protection. Imagine fighting a bunch of Rikti, and a mentalist alternates between sleeping and holding my Defender. My team is dying, I'm out of inspirations and I have all the End in the world, but am I Vigilant? No. I'm asleep on the job.
I think a click power that builds up over time and provides mez protection and an end reduction buff that can be clicked when you are mezzed would be the much more logical form of Vigilance.
Quote:I'm not convinced that the inherent should be changed to work solo. I'm also not convinced that Defenders should get Power Build Up for free. You can already get that power as an Epic.
Quote:The mechanism for "charging" the click power should also be dependent on the state of the team's health in addition to you using your Defender primary.
Quote:Arguments about Defenders being the most balanced are really just saying that Defenders are the least overpowered, or stated bluntly, the weakest. Corruptors and Controllers have all the advantages of defenders at slightly lower effectiveness. As someone who has played all these ATs a great deal, in practice the increased effectiveness of the defender primary is almost unnoticeable, especially on teams that have two or more characters with such powersets.
Played all these too (4 def, 4 corr, 1 contr at 50) and not sure what you are getting at with the rest of your statement. Defenders do fine on team, no matter the make up. I don't see people compling "OMG! We have more than 2 defenders!" -
I thought Kheld inherents were tied to team, and not sure what use is Tanker's when solo.
Anyhow, I like the current form of the inherent. Yeah, I know I am a minority.
Defenders are a team-based AT and it makes sense their inherent would be of the same flavor.
No one has yet to show defenders can't solo. I have 4 of them at 50 and can solo just fine. Are they the most efficient? Of course not. Want a better soloer, you could roll a scrapper for example.
It is never clear why this need to make defenders better soloers via their inherent.
And lastly, I believe the devs work with balance in mind. It was said at the recent convention that the devs consider the defender the most balanced AT (I don't have the audio/video on this but seen enough on the boards it referenced). If defenders can't be shown not working as intended like how blasters or doms were envisioned, why would defenders get a free buff? IMO only, I feel they would be balanced out for soloing by what they can do for teams. -
Quote:Hehe, same here. I joined July 2004 to the game, but didn't realize about the forums. Oh well, welcome to any of the new players if they post!I played this game for at least two years before I even looked or registered on the forums. I'd always heard that there were forums, but I never really cared to look to find them until someone linked me to them. I wouldn't be surprised if any new players did the same.

Good luck rox if you try again. RL has been busy for me, so wouldn't have been able to make either of your attempts this week.
I want to try again soon for my toon, just not sure when. -
Quote:I thought it was because you were on the other side wondering where we were...taking down Rommy....Since you didn't even understand what the primary purpose of your secondary is, I'll let you fantasize why it still worked out, regardless of not playing the AI like a chump.
-
Quote:Bah!Between you and Toril, it was like you came along JUST to grief me
Still not sure why you insisted on having Rommy run all over the place and finally letting him settle down in that particular spot....
It wasn't that bad. I died once on Rommy at the very beginning between him and that autohit nictus (even though I tried to rez one time too but was killed before I could hit my BF and move out of the way). As for running, once I was down, he ran off. He got planted in one spot after that. I should have brought my brute instead!
Admittingly, my ice tank is not the most optimal slotted. I am sure I could spend the inf on sets and softcap my defenses better - esp. to neg energy since that seems to cut right through me. Maybe even take tough/weave. If anything from last night, I see that my tank needs some support toons for survivability. -
Good time all around.
I was definitely rusty on the tank for the ITF as well as being unprepared at some points.Should have stuck with the corruptor.
-
Quote:This is my take on it for now in that more is coming. 20-30 to highlight (or sneak peek) a new group. Then when GR comes out and I could be very optimistic and assuming, the devs will show the after lvl30 to 50 content, getting ready for this "endgame", and doubt that they will leave this sinister new group just hanging at 30.Yup, and slam into the same abyss of level 30-45 content as every other character ever created.
I will add again from what I said a in other posts on issues in that we don't the work involved. This issue could represent the workload of like I3 to I6 for all we know. They are still producing and more is to come. -
Quote:Thermal does have its own tricks:Edit again: Before Mental gets in a tizzy....he was the 8th but as a Therm troller. No telling what he was doing.....if anything.
Not gonna stop me from leaving up my previous assessment though
Melt Armor
Heat Exhaustion
I don't know the numbers off hand, but I have a /therm corr and assuming the same between controller and corruptor. So along with the storm and rad, therm would have been contributing if Mental took and use these powers. (I don't know his build and can't remember from the Tuesday group - God I am getting old...) -
Don't know if Satanic Hamster will post or if some one on the team took down the stats or screenshots for you Masque, but we did run the STF last night.
1 /rad contr, 1 cold/ice def, 1 scrapper, 1 tank, rest blasters. 2:19 as I recall/61 deaths - mostly at LR.
Anyhow, apart some survivability at LR, in my experience, the team went through the STF pretty smoothly. We ended up single-pulling each patron (a failed 1st pull with all 4). No issues with GW at all from what I could tell - even with no status protection buff from Hamster or me for the tank. No one had leadership pool either.
