Quote:Another poor example. People with the same names have been around...well, probably since people started using names probably, a long time that is for certain. How many people named Michael are there in America? Where you live? Are they not all unique and beautiful snowflakes (Tyler Durden's theories to the contrary)?
CoH didn't start that way and people got attached to the uniqueness. To change now wouldn't be pretty IMO.
Anyhow, if they merge, if they change naming is really pointless since there is nothing hinted or on the rumor horizon to indicate they will be happening. This will just turn into the many other threads on these topics. -
Good luck on the trial! Apart from Wednesdays being next to impossible for me, I will wait to see what tweaks are made to the trial before attempting.
-
Quote:Wow, IMO, I consider that really poor design and will wait to later on to see if there are changes to the CoP.I don't think they've managed to successfully complete it more then once on test. So I can imagine that much like the LRSF and Hamidon before it, people will eventually develop techniques to doing this that don't require crutches.
The trial does not provide a way to do it besides going to Warburg.
I love to see more challenge in this game since I consider it too easy. And zero issue with going to PvP zones to get temps, but to know you have to do all this before even attempting? I guess I am believer in flexible content that players should be able to do things and not require X,Y,Z ATs and/or have A,B,C powers. -
My opinion is that they are okay. About to ding 50 with a DS/dark MM, and it will be my 3rd after bots/storm and thugs/PD MMs.
I admit it could be my play style with the pets and the demons just don't mesh fully with it. Another possibility is that I went with dark instead of something like therm, which may had added to my lower thoughts on the set. Or I just had way to high expectations to begin with. -

Eh, it was nice from what little I did. The KM set is good IMO. I didn't try the elec control set, but messed around with the powers in the creation screen just to see the animation. The new zone looks good too.
The h/v merits are going to be very interesting since we can buy recipes with them. I think LGTF will be farmed to death (unless they changed the cost of the merits), which is fine with me since it is my favorite TF. -
-
Cats - It has to be cats. You would be the most ultimate MM if you can show you can herd cats.
-
That's me now too. I use to save all to 50 and then see what I need and/or roll. I would say on my last 4 or so toons, I hit 20 merits, I just roll. Paid off a few times, didn't pay off other times.
I guess I have just a couple of "older" toons that are my focus for all the shinies and gave up on trying to "purple out" every single toon, every single time I ding 50. I am finding leveling up is going too fast/easy and I can't keep up - lol! I also plan out way ahead now my toons. Like I have one ready for when GR is coming out, and placed the bids for certain IOs I wanted in it months ago. I have all the IOs now, crafted and ready to go, just need the toon.
-
My only question is the merit rewards. From what I understand of the system, and by no means the expert, but the amount of time/effort we put in game content like an arc or TF or whatever translates into our merit rewards.
So by removing these little bits, would we see a reduction in rewards? Yes, the do nothing, but if players complete arc like 25% faster because they are not running around, would we see a drop by 25% in rewards?
Otherwise, I don't have any real opinion for or against this. -
Eh, I still stand by it is only a perception thing - and that is something programming can't fix (yet?
).
And this is game is just too easy as is. Unless some one would post combat logs and show real data to the real data shown in the videos (GJ Leo_G btw), then the occassional miss is drowned out by the countless mobs we constantly defeat.
-
Quote:I am going with Leo_G and his response.Only when one refuses to acknowledge that it's even slightly possible there are issues with the game. So far I've outlined a number of recurring problems and for each I'm repeatedly told it's just me.
So yeah, that smells a lot like dev-worship if you can't even accept that perhaps the game has design flaws.
Nothing to do with Dev-worship. I have my own list of things that annoy me in this game. But missing every so often is not on it.
It is a perception thing, really. Just think for a moment on the number of mobs defeat to get to 50. It is no contest. We, as the player base, slaughter mobs by the thousands and thousands, if not more, every day in this game. You miss once in a while. Big ()#$*R)* deal.
I use to run some redside respec. Level 44+, defeat alls - yes, every single mob defeated before the AV - and averaged 30 minutes. Plenty of CoT in the final mission too. -
Quote:Since you must ask, here you go: Mission. The mobs are the PPD khelds. Yes, they are so easy, especially the big robot bosses. I run at +1/4 with bosses turn on.So I gotta ask, this farm mission you do, is it full of critters that toss out tons of debuffs, have high defense or resistances, or are otherwise "tricky"? Or do you pick the critters that are the easiest (read: fastest) for you to kill and least likely to frak you up with effects you can't readily mitigate?
I guess you were looking for an easy answer. I find this game ridiculously easy. Only mobs that have given me pause are those VG rebels in the RWZ arcs.
Quote:Well this is pretty much what it's been reduced to for me. I never solo anymore. Hell, I don't even play much anymore. When a new issue drops I come back to check it out, play for a few days, maybe a week or so before I I'm over all the same BS, and then I'm gone. I then go solo in a different superhero MMO, space MMO, or fantasy MMO, none of which bend over backwards to aggravate and frustrate me.
Quote:And really, if you and the others think the game is so great why are you here in a thread started by a guy who's sick and tired of missing so much? Go have another glass of Castle-flavored Paragon Kool-Aid and find a "gee isn't this game swell" thread.
Oh, and when Going Rogue kills CoV, remember I told ya so. -
Quote:In a word, yes. And based partly on the responses afterwards. Just a note on myself, but I "farm" a certain mission redside for merits. It has boxes in them, and yes, I grimace when I miss an attack on one. But I clear the mission so fast and defeat the mobs so quickly I get over it.So you're saying I'm only imagining my chance to hit is 35%?
Thus my question on what game you are playing. I find this game too easy already and wish mobs had nastier tricks. Maybe our playstyles are different. I stop before each group in a mission (when solo) and think how to approach them. Missing once in while is nothing to the amount of times we hit.
And this is a MMO. If issues, then team - one of the most frustrating thing in this game is that I am on a team that is moving so fast I can't get any of my big attacks off. If you don't want to team, inspiration or IOs will help. -
Quote:I find it hard to believe there is any problem after 6 years.I find it hard to believe I'm the only one who has had this issue over the last 5 years.
I believe I posted something earlier in the thread about perception and remember the misses. Apparently long forgotten. -
-
Quote:As back up to my previous post...to be clear which game we are talking about. You literally cannot repeatedly miss if you have a 95% chance to hit. The streakbreaker has already been linked upthread. If you miss once, your next chance will be a hit even if your RNG roll is a miss.
You can hit/miss/hit/miss/hit/miss, but that's incredibly rare if you actually do have a 95% chance to hit. -
Quote:This game. The issue being discussed is the non-random nature of the game's random number generator that allows one to repeatedly miss targets even though you have a 95% chance to hit. And how that 95% cap shouldn't be there to begin with. While you might disagree, that is the discussion.
Really, I find that hard to believe. Really, this game???
And the issues being discussed. WOW!!! What a great explanation you had.
Like I said before, people remember the missing, but that the 1000's of mobs that defeated at their "own hands".
Rewritting the code for 3%, please... -
What game are you playing that this is an issue?
It would help you put this into normal context for stand +0/1 mobs and missions. "The game is balanced SOs" has been mentioned also.
If players are having such horrific stories of missing at these conditions, then yes, something should be done. If players are setting to +4/+8, fighting CoTs as an example, those are extreme conditions.
Why should a fundamental part of the game be re-written for those conditions? Especially when you can use IOs, get buffs, or use inspirations to offset penalties or minimize missing to the 5%. -
Wow! Fast moving thread.
Anyhow, to the OP, even before some of the announcements like the market merger, I was planning maybe 1 toon from each side to experience the content of switching. If it was really fun or some other game change comes up, maybe another couple of toons. I like where my toons are and like the content on both sides (actually red side slightly better).
I saw a few other posters state this, and concur that I don't believe a mass exodus will happen either. -
Well, I am willing to bet "we" have all seen this. Yeah, the missing the box thing, a lowly min just looking at me after a my grand opening whooosh, etc.
But IMO, we need this cap still because:
1) This game is ridiculously easy already. We may as well get rid of accuracy if we are going to be able to slot and never miss.
2) On teams, especially steamrolling massive AOE teams, it is very unlikely that up to all 8 players are going to miss all the same mobs. Even if a tiny few survive, they are quickly cut down.
3) IME, this is a perception thing, especially when soloing. You remember those "missed boxes" but not the 100 other mobs you just slaughtered. -
I agree with the others on the use of the word healer.
But for my 2 inf, it may be more the role you may get into.
My emp/psi def has MSTF, MLGTF, MDrKTF, and MITF, where as my ice/cold corr has MLRSF, MBSF, MLGTF, MITF.
IME, on the defender, I aged about 10 years prematurely because I felt that if a player died, I wasn't doing my job on a Master run. On my corruptor, I was more "relaxed" because, although I buffed shields, I was more focused on the holds and debuffs.
So in your case, your controller may be more focused on damage mitigation through your primary and can back up on buffing/healing. Just a style of play I guess.
