    FF needs love

The only change I would suggest is a longer duration on the shields and faster animation for shielding. Compared to Thermal, Cold or Sonic the FF shields take a long time to animate. I love the animation for how you shield people, I just wish you could shave off a bit of time.

The knockback powers could use an extra secondary effect, but in general I really enjoyed Force Fields as a set. It is really fun to play and offers a lot of protection for the team.

You just have to really enjoy blasting, thankfully with /AR and Repulsion Bomb, mine was a little AoE queen.
  2. Villain stance 2 is pretty cool. A bit like wall lean but without needing a wall
  3. Well baring in mind my Euro timezone, I played for a few hours with my partner in the evening yesterday after the servers came up.

Server was really crowded, even more so then I expected. We couldn't even get into the same tutorial because there were about 4 different versions! Anyway we quickly raced each other to Nova Praetoria and became Resistance members. We joined a leveling pact and got started on the missions. We took our time reading the stuff and didn't race through.

We hit a bit of a stump because we realised my character Mr. Maund was 7'1 tall not 6'1, making my partner's character Mrs. Maund look like a child lol. So being clever, I said lets set a mission and teleport to Pocket D to adjust my height, thinking we could use Mission Teleporter to get back. Of course, muttons here forgot Pocket D has a teleport resistance so we ended up stranded and had to take the long run through Imperial City back to Nova Praetoria! We took the time to think of some interesting names for my partner's bots though.

We were going to stop for the night after finishing Flores storyarc but we couldn't resist going to meet Tunnel Rat and doing 1 last mission from her. Ended the night at level 8 and looking forward to more tonight! ;-)

I think those pictures were designed to say "Hey look, GR has had a huge impact already."

    NOT "CoH will last FOREVER!!!"

By the way, I predict CoH will still be here in another 6 years time, even if its just 1 server.

I think its safe to say people will get bored of the game long before it shuts down, so I don't understand this worry.

Oh yes definitly, this is another thing that puts a spanner in the works. If you are say a Fire Controller with BRIGHT BLUE flames, it just looks odd to get your Fire APP and have normal colours for your fireball and fire shield :/
  6. Yep can't agree enough and have voiced my opinion on this matter before. I have to admit I am someone who only creates themed characters and I always find the APP's as very important to that and also very restrictive. Example my latest character is a Grav/Rad Controller and while I would LOVE to give him a Radiation APP coupled with X-Ray eyes and Neutron Bomb, I cannot. I find a lot of my controllers relying a lot on Primal Forces as it is somewhat neutral.. ;-)

Even worse for Villains though before i18. PPP's were a big factor in preventing my from being able to enjoy redside. At least they have APP's now but it is a shame they are so copy/paste. Mastermind's in particular could have been much more awesome with Dark (for Necro/Demon), Ninjitsu (For Ninja) and Munition (Mercs, Thugs and perhaps Bots) type sets.

    Shadowy Presence

With the use of the Shadowy Presence power, your character fades into the shadows. Your character becomes nearly invisible to the keenest senses, but this uncanny stealth comes at a price. Movement, use of power, or taking damage breaks the effect. Shadowy Presence has a 10-minute cooldown and is not affected by recharge buffs.
    Interesting..
  8. Thanks for the post, Orion ;-)

I actually agree with mac on this one, the proof of the pudding in terms of how successful Going Rogue will be is how the population will be in a month or two, not on launch day.

Mind you I suspect the Devs know that and have a few Issues well underway to continue to fuel the fire and keep their churn down (at least I hope they do). NCSofts whole marketing approach of Going Rogue seems to be aimed at getting people back to the game from "other sources" rather than attracting totally new players into it (although that may not have been Paragon Studios initial intent).
Lol @ the child-birth related image, I kind of got the same, ick. As far as MA is concerned I'm not sure what the Devs intended for it, because CoH would suck if suddenly the city was empty and everyone in in the MA buildings, but that is a lot of time consumed to develop the feature. *Shrug*.

I agree that for GR, we need to give it a week or two minimum to see if the new population sticks, but I'm sure some will. Hopefully like you said the Devs have more issues lined up. More Praetoria content would be awesome, given how beautiful the place is.

Like Sam I have reservations about the motive behind the original post and thus I see no reason to devote time to writing an articulate response. You see Another_Fan, its all about 'context'. A provocative 4-liner post by someone with a history of such things is fair game; story arcs which people have invested a lot of time and effort into require a thoughtful discussion in my opinion, not sweeping generalisations which include "no one wants to play your badly written storyarc..." I'm not arguing MA is perfect, just that respect should be given where it is deserved.

You know you can make a point without posting such insults. I'm sure you know as well as I do that there are some truly great arcs out there which people have put a lot of effort into and are indeed very well written.

Positron said that you could level from 1 to 50 in AE. No where did he say that you should be earning a greater reward in AE then you do in regular content. The argument is over and its dead. The devs messed up by releasing it in such an exploitable state. It may be a niche now, but it was always meant to be. AE wasn't designed to take over the game and put everyone in Atlas Park.

    1. Strongarm the developers into making our changes under threat of game sink. "See, you did this, and now your game is sinking. You better do that, or you will go out of business!" This is, has always been and will always be futile. The developers cannot be strongarmed. They can be persuaded, and they can be persuaded by desire and enthusiasm, not threats of vague apocalypse. If the point was to persuade the developers, focusing on how a change could help the game is far superior to threatening how not making the change means doom.

    2. pwn teh noobs. "People said the game wasn't dying, but now I have proof. Ha-ha!" This is pointless, useless and, above all, petty. While there is a certain degree of satisfaction in "I told you so!" what is it actually achieving? If we WANT the game to fail, then it makes sense to try and depress current players enough to leave by prophecy of doom, thereby doing little more than creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, thereby removing any satisfaction of being "right" anyway, since you didn't know, you just helped make it happen. But that's a bad motivation in any ethical context.

    3. Sour grapes. "I hate this game because of all the bad changes made to it, but it's OK. It's the game's fault because it sucks and see? See? It's failing!" Having seen people do just that (and fall several levels down the ladder from "friend" into "*******"), I can definitely see it as a possibly intent, but again - what does this achieve? It's like the console wars all over again - I cannot simply prefer one game over the other based on personal taste. One game has to be provably superior to another in order to justify my opinion with hard fact and make my decision obviously correct. This is not a good motivation, because it could just as easily be replaced with a modicum of self-esteem.

And that's all the options which I could envision. And none of those options are productive. WE are not going to fix the game if that were our intent, because WE are not game designers who work for Paragon Studios. The most we can do is campaign for what we want, make our opinions and ideas heard and trust the developers to make a good game out of it. We can't keep second-guessing them and trying to yank their jobs from out of their hands like we know everything. All the gripes here are legitimate, but as complaints constrained to their own particular field, not extrapolated into doom and gloom.

And the rest is just mean-spirited alarmist hysteria. I've seen and seen claims that Going Rogue will bomb and sink the company. Even assuming that it will, so what? How will that change what YOU are doing right now? Do you need assurance that City of Heroes will last another decade in order for you to keep playing? Because such a guarantee will never exist. For any game. Even WoW. It's likely, obviously, but it's never guaranteed. Any game can bomb and fail. What does dwelling on that accomplish?

Even if we could prove that City of Heroes is going down the drain, what are we trying to achieve by it?
I agree with you Sam, and my money is on #3 for the record ;-)

Also the whole AE debate is so old, can we forget it? As much as I love writing stories I sometimes wish they had never made it.
  13. Its the little things that please me, like the noises clockwork make when they are emoting ;-)

But yes, GR is awesome I've been hyped for days!

My significant other had a bit of a surprise when I announced it had launched. Our leveling pack is already making good progress
  14. I've been playing Virtue since the day I started, but now that there seems to be alternatives to Virtue and Freedom for a busy server playstyle, hopefully people will spread out a bit. :-)

    Stances Coming?

Flyposes are an example of how to do it wrong, to this day the only time I have ever seen anyone using it is War Witch on the latest Vidoc.

    Stances Coming?

If they are a real stance, wouldn't there need to be some ui to set it? A no-end cost toggle would not be a polished way of doing it ^^

This was my guess as well.
  18. For me, the problem with PPP Pets is they are so blatantly Arachnos. They weren't exactly designed with concepts in mind and I couldn't think of anything worse then PPP powers for my characters.

APP's on the other hand are awesome.
  19. Thank you everyone, very clear and precise, has helped me a lot. :-)

It also means that earthquakes -hit will help a lot as well, at least until you are fighting very high level mobs or AV's.
  20. Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea of the impact of -to hit debuffs when considering defence bonuses.

Radiation Infection (RI) for example does roughly -35% with average slotting. How much would this count towards my defence? If I have say around 22% ranged defence, what would be the equivalent ranged debuff?

Been a question I've been meaning to ask for a while when considering the usefulness of -hit debuffs; just only recently have I decided to make characters who actually have powers capable of that.

    Thank you :-)

Anyway I've seen a petless bots/Traps in action.

Sit down kids, let me tell you the tale of Professor Freak.

Professor Freak was a man who sold out his enormously flawed superscience to the villain world at large. Always thinking grandly and delivering poorly, Professor Freak was loved and reviled, depending on whether you were on the bystander side or receiving side of his genius, respectively.

In 50 levels of my teamings with this NoBots/Traps, I was surprised to find that he still was as valuable to the team as ever, even if his only sources of damage seemed to come from pulse rifle blasts that could barely melt butter and seeker drones that actually managed not to slice their own master's head off in carnal lust for blood.

One time, I saw what the fuss was all about, and it was a doozy. The sun, if you could call it that, was dimly lighting the obscured sky of the ruins of Atlas Park in some dismal, grisly future where Lord Recluse finally had hiked up his gonads, roflstomped Statesman, and proceeded to crap all over his kingdom by letting it calmly burn to ash around him. Content that he was secure in his Fortress of Burning Lolwut, Professor Freak merrily hopped, skipped, tripped occasionally, and finally stumbled across the landscape unnoticed.

We engaged Lord Recluse in all manner of attack that some would call downright uncivilized. Professor Freak spent most of his time tickling the Spider with his guns, until finally Recluse turned and looked at him angrily - only to be shot in the face ten times with an acid mortar that was loaded to the gills with Damage Procs, and a couple of seeker drones buzzing at him like angry metal bees. Oh, how the Spider hated the bees!

Knowing he could not go it alone, or even with my assistance, Professor Freak calmly asked a few friends to assist in the beatdown.

What I saw next was something that blew my mind. The team descended, and in pitched battle the Spider taunted them all with his army of Banes and his sliver of insurmountable health. Then, from the heavens above, descended a single Assault Bot. The label above its head was emblazoned in green with the moniker "My Life's Work" and it promptly landed, shouted an error code and made the bootup noise from an OS9 PowerPC, then exploded, killing the Spider. Sparks flew from Professor Freak as the Super-Villain Advisory Board granted him clearance to level 50. My jaw hit the floor for critical damage. This little turd of a character violated his idiotic noPet rule for an equally idiotic chance at glory with a marginally idiotic use of Detonator. I then imagined what he could have done if weren't an idiot.

Never in my years had I ever seen something so amazing, until 3 weeks later when an Ill/FF named Subconscious scored the final blow to Lord Recluse, at the feet of Grandville City Hall, with a baseball bat after we took down his WEB device.

    That's the story.

I know all too well the power of Bots/Traps in reality, but to say that even WITHOUT pets, you are super useful, is something else. Also Professor Freak is very real, he's a good friend of mine, and he's far from an idiot. But that moment blew my mindhole wide open.
    Love it!
  23. I have to admit that for one of my recent concepts I had a character who was primarily a force fielder (her main powers related to that), and while she used pistols, she wasn't particularly great with them. Her main heroic traits were being able to shield and protect people.

Unfortunately the pistols set looks so fabulous that it just didn't suit her theme, so instead I opted to make her use an assault rifle as the animations were a bit more grounded and it fitted her much better.

Although pistols has only just been released, I think there are other candidates much deserving of attention. Plus the pistols set does look awesome even if it isn't everyones cup of tea.

My lovely Grav set! This needed bolding. It also needs to happen!!
  25. This is a nice idea Castle :-)

I think some new animations for the old school blasts would be nice.

Energy, Fire, Rad, Ice, Dark etc, all share the same old animations and it would be nice if we had some cooler alternatives. I mean there are about 5 or 6 animations which are used for pretty much all the sets.

If you gave additional variations, then all the old school blast sets could be applicable to use them, and possibly even more.

Now that, is bang for your buck ;-)
