  1. Something about this makes me snicker.. you sure you wouldn't be better off simply reading a guide? :-)
  2. Sounds like you don't really want to solo - which is no problem because Controllers do work best in teams and are the most team orientated AT the game has. That is where our true strength lies.

However you can't simply dismiss how helpful damage enhancements are. Remember you can get approximately +95% damage to your attacks by using them. Yes you wont solo like a scrapper or blaster, but it will make the difference between soloing painfully slow, and soloing at a reasonable pace. It opens up more options so its not just team or logoff, which back in the early days and before containment, it very much was for most sets.

Lastly as I said earlier, some control sets solo better than others. Gravity, Mind and Illusion are the best at single target damage, with a nice selection of attacking powers right from the off. Fire is the best at AoE damage with Hot Feet at level 8. The rest must work harder, and can eventually catch up with a combination of Pets and APP attacks.
  3. I'm enjoying the new story arc Posi, will PM you some feedback I have
  4. /bug would be best. You could also try PMing Castle about it and he might be able to change it. We're assuming heis going to do another pass on APP's anyway.

    blame this rule right here.
Well one thing I will agree with, is that the 'cottage rule' has a far greater impact on support sets then other sets. Its difficult to design a kick or a blast wrong enough that a bit of number tweaking wouldn't fix.

The same cannot be said of some of the support/control powers ;-)
  6. Yep, in this game you definitly get what you slot for, at least most of the time ;-)
  7. Yep the new missions are amazing, they have definitly learnt a lot from the original CoH missions, and even the CoV missions. There are so many uniuque missions in GR, reminds me of the RWZ mission where you arrive and for once, everything is nice and orderly at the conference. That was obviously just a taster of things to come!

It is easy to take for granted, but it is so nice to see the game continuing to improve in every aspect. There is still more room for improvement, but I have a lot of faith in their abilities. :-)
  8. I like information, influence and infamy. It all suits the various areas of the world perfectly.

Seriously Castle or who ever dev has the ability to change critter AI will you please tone down the whole AI run away thing. Its stupid and its pointless since none of the npcs ever run away to get help. I could see if it was like other MMOs where one critter could aggro another spawn on you but this has never happened the entire time I have ever played CoX. What exactly is the purpose of them running away?
He had a few legit complaints and this was one of them, the other was tilesets.
  10. Pretty rubbish review aimed at the lowest common denominator, some accurate complaints, a whole ton of misconceptions and idiocies ranging from the silly to the damn right stupid. He spoke too fast and had an annoying accent. He deliberating tried to speak 'dumb' about a lot of things which is something I find annoying.

Overall, the review was pretty crap, I wouldn't want to judge a game on that; I wont be going back to that site!

Sometimes I wish there would be less negativity here. Could scare newbies away as they could think the this game is bad.
But then the WoW boards are a nightmare and it doesn't seem to scare away anyone.

You can even find Doom posts on there that say that WoW will not survive till 2011!
Yeah the WoW boards are terrible, the community isn't much better either ;-) (I know that is a terrible generalisation, there are good people there but they are a bit outnumbered...)

I wouldn't worry too much, I think the people who come to the forum are intelligent enough to know better. Or so I hope!

Your ST Immoblize should be slotted as an attack, especially if you are soloing. Even at later level, I would be weary of slotting it as a control power unless you never plan to solo.

Your AoE immobilize really just needs accuracy, 1 is good but 2 is best. If you have more slots then I would reccomend end reduction after that, especially at low level/mid level.

Later on in life you can use the Immobilize IO sets in your AoE immobilize; lots of them give good bonuses, and they come free with extra immobilize duration and will move than easily cover all your needs for the power. Hope that helps. Oh and also becareful with the aggro that AoE immobilizes cause.
  13. I echo the above, slot for damage if you want to solo. Damage is even useful on small teams.

If you are Mind, Grav or Illusion you should get a decent attack chain out of the box. The other sets must work harder to achieve solo capability, and must really take their single target immobalize or rely on Temp/Vet/Power Pool powers. Air Superiority is a good choice for a leveling Controller who lacks attacks, you can always respec it for Hover later.

I'm afraid things get harder before they get easier for the low damage control sets. If you are lucky your secondary will help you out a bit.
  14. I'm sure its on their list of things to do, and yes I would love it as well. Make Paragon City feel like the metropolis it really is ;-)

I like your idea about TV as well Golden Girl, it should be used like Faultline and the Dam. Some stuff would need to be cut perhaps, but I'm sure the general feel of TV could be saved.

I'm not sure if a spoiler notice is necessary but I have erred on the side of caution as I would not want to spoil peoples fun in Prae.

Not seen a list of Easter Eggs, either from outgame sources and also from CoH/CoV sources.

Some that I picked up on were:

    A mission titled "Doctor Who?"

A person called "Subject Zero", similar to the Vahzilok Boss named "Patient Zero" at about the same level range.
  16. Depends, Paragon Studios seem to be pushing the RP element of the game. I consider these single player missions interactive RP missions critical to your characters ingame place in the world. Especially as sometimes they can result in contacts disapearing from the world, outside of the missions. It wouldn't make sense to take part in killing X, only to see X outside and then offering you missions to save their cat. ;-)
  17. I think you if you are still playing CO, by definition you are a die hard loyalist and probably love the game.

CoH isn't perfect by no means, but you don't have to be a die hard loyalist to truly appreciate it. Plus everyone has their 2 inf, even if they have an axe to grind.

If you want to think optimistically, negativity on the forums is a good thing. It means people care, and love the game enough to want to see it improved. If they didn't care, they would just simply be gone.
  18. I agree about the road block bit. They should probably allow you to be introduced to the next contact without having to complete it, making it more optional for those who truly hate soloing.

As for contacts, I've seen that Crusaders for the Resistance and Power for the Loyalists are both extremists who are difficult to approach because their usually sit in their bases faction which is off limits.

The Wardens for the Resistance and Responsibility for the Loyalists are both pretty decent - depending on your perspective.

Lastly don't forget you are meant to be playing undercover and as a double agent when doing opposite story arcs. My loyalist has done a few Resistance arcs and managed to make sure it ends in the Loyalists favour. Deep cover, remember ;-)
  19. Agree completely, loving the story arcs and story. Have spent more hours on it then I intended also

Also lots of respect to Paragon Studios for adding great RP elements to the game, and also for not dumbing it down which seems to be the route a lot of other games are going at the moment.
  20. Well in Half Life, G Man turns up at random points in the game, but you can never reach him. You always see him talking to someone or watching you while adjusting his tie. This happens all through the game; you don't realise at first but sooner or later you start to become aware that every so often you'll see a glimpse of him following your progress. He is very mysterious. :-)
  21. The single player missions are GREAT, and they only work because they are single player.

Also the single player bits are short, takes less than 15 minutes really. We aren't even talking storyarcs here.

I can understand your frustration, me and my partner had been duoing everything in a leveling pact and finally stumbled across this. Thing is though we immediately parted ways and and completed it by ourselves and have to say we loved every second. The cut scenes (with your character in it!) and the story opportunities involved in making were simply awesome, we really enjoyed it actually. So despite the inconvenience, I am a huge lover of them!
  22. I present to you: Mr. G

Not to be confused with a certain other 'G Man':

Can't believe I didn't realise during a previous arc that mentioned him. He even talks like G Man, well as much as a wall of text can ;-)
  23. I've played a Grav/Rad Controller and a SS/WP Brute and not had any problems solo. Been fun actually. Will admit that it is a bit more challenging than Paragon City, but that makes it more exciting for me; admittedly though I'm very good at games, especially this one. I know how to make the most of what I've got and also use the environment to my advantage. (Quick Tip: If you get ambushes, use LoS to draw them near you so you can ambush them.)

Also I haven't used any Vet powers, before anyone throws that at me ;-)

On the topic of endurance I once again have no problems. Nothing that a 'catch a breathe' couldn't fix anyway. Somehow I have this vision of people fighting with sprint on, and using their powers inefficiently, like using Knockout Blow on a minion with 20% health instead of waiting 1s for Jab.

All I would suggest is that everyone looks at their own playstyle and see how they can improve. Players have a habbit of blaming the game sometimes a bit of reflection and improvement would suffice better.
  24. Somehow I didn't see this during beta, but Clear Mind has had its animation changed and its activation time substantially reduced.

It is now has a 1.00 activation time, and uses the 'Speed Boost' animation. Doesn't look too bad actually.

Used to skip the power on my Controllers, but might be worth a second look now.
