  1. *hugs*

I know what you are going through, when I lost my dog, it was the most upset I've ever been in my life. Cried all morning, all afternoon too. :/

Try and remember the good times. You obviously treated her well and she had a good life. In that respect, it is to be celebrated. Perhaps in time to come, you will come to realise that. *hugs again*

LOL, I can't imagine no one bugged that STF bug.

Methinks BaBs may have been out of the loop on it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

After a quick chat with Castle, no...it appears we weren't aware of this particular issue. He's chalking it up to some recent changes with AI and we're going to evaluate what might have changed and how it affects the task force.

I've done a bit of poking around on the forums and there appears to be conflicting reports on how much of an impact this is having. Some are saying it's now impossible, others have said that it's noticeable, but still manageable. Bottom line is, we're aware of it now and we're looking into whether or not anything needs to be changed.

For things like this, that have a very dramatic impact on game play, cause crashing, affect a lot of people, can be used as major exploits, etc...it'd be really helpful if you could bring those issues to the forums where they have a chance of being immediately and directly seen by us.

In game '/bug' reports go directly to QA in Austin, who shuffle through them, verify them, and add them into our bug tracking database before sending them our way where they get doled out to individuals to fix. That process can take a long time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As someone who uses /bug a lot ingame to report things I come across, I'm a bit saddened by this statement. If this is really the case, then I think you guys need to have an audit on how effective this process is going, no?

Relying on forums and PM's to a few high profile devs who may not even have any expertise on the exact issue is kind of..how best to describe it...amatuerish?.. No offence intended. This process wont work on a large scale. Imagine if Blizzard worked like this? This is simply ludicrous to demand players PM a dev or post bugs on the forum.

And yes, we know /bug is a slow process, try not to destroy what little faith we have in it..
  3. Truely shocked to see this thread. I did the LGTF for the first time the other day and the Honoree didn't survive long enough for me to properly get to see him. I actually thought he was pretty weak.

    We had:
    Ice Dom/Ice Blast Defender
    Mind/Storm Controller (me)
    Ice/Storm Controller
    Dual Blades/Regen Scrapper
    Psi/Psi Blaster
    Ice/Ice Blaster
    Bots/Traps Mastermind
    VEAT spider thing

I think we did the TF in just under 3 hours after clearing every map.

Therein lies the problem. If you raise Defender base damage by any appreciable amount, then you have to do something for Corruptors too.

It's not a step that will be taken lightly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unless someone can come up with a better reason then has been expressed in this thread it won't happen at all. Turning defenders into corrupter clones isn't going to make much headway with the devs.

As far as I can tell the general abilities and balance of corrupters are exactly what the people who are calling for more defender damage want. Actually thats not quite true. I get the impression that what people want is the same base damage as corrupters without any loss of buff strength and that certainly isn't going to happen.

If you don't like playing villans then simply wait for "Going Rogue" and that problem is solved. If you don't have all the same powersets then campaign for more proliferation.

Pushing to turn defenders into blue colored corrupters isn't going to work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For me it is more of a Controller vs Defender issue not a Corrupter vs Defender issue. I don't play redside really to care much for Corrupters. All I know is that Defenders should do far more damage then Controllers since they "waste" a whole powerset on it.

I have been to the Studio manager three times. He just says that I should get busy and start making missions.

Maybe this is the Devs new recruiting policy?

More than likely my character is bugged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you go to a contact and you have outleveled the contact, or it is a contact you have not been introduced to yet (I.E, you walk up to Maria despite not being "introduced to her") They will say some chat and list your top contact, for most people this is architect studio manager.

This is not the same as introducing you to architect manager, they are simply sending you to a contact already on your list. This is not a bug!

The character isn't bugged, you are just misunderstanding the mechanics.

What people are telling you to do is:

    A) Run radio missions until you get a safeguard. Once you run a safeguard, the detective will offer you a contact in the debriefing.

    B) Contacts do not usually introduce you to another contact until you have maxed out their reputation bar. You'll need to run quite a few missions to get someone to introduce her.

    Hope that helps!

    Back to Basics

I've gone full completist personally. Every five levels, turn off xp until all content for that level range is completed.

Lets just say, I got to spend a lot of time with Peacemoon.

Example, 5-9 I did all the contact story arcs and missions until they all had max rep, then did all the hollow arcs until they said I needed to be level 10. I also did the paper missions and a bank mission plus got all the exploration badges for the low level zones.

Personally I found this very fun, almost like a Loremaster route
  7. Unless they spawn inside AE buildings, the majority of players may not notice this
  8. Ouch, that is a nasty experience!

I don't team too much so I don't have too much to share. I was fighting GM's in Croatoa once with a Fire/Kin controller who only performed adequately because of my constant commands. He was using hardly any of his powers to any effect, no fulcrum shifts, no speed boosts, no fire imps. This is despite the fact he did have all three powers.

We did get there in the end, someone relogged their Ill/Rad
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I had a new thing happen to me today, which is pretty cool after playing the game for three years. It happened in one of those laboratory maps with the four pieces of equipment sealed off in the glass rooms.

Destroying the equipment gave me temporary powers, seemingly at random.

Keen Sight was a +To Hit bonus, with info stating that "I felt strange after the equipment exploded, and was more alert and sharper than before"

One time though I got "Lethargic" - "You feel tired and lethargic after the equipment blew up, and cannot recover any Endurance."
I checked the info and it said -100% Recovery for 3 minutes!!

    Are these effects new?
Three minutes of enforced downtime seems a bit steep as a "flavour" debuff. Luckily I was on my own, and defeated the enemy befroe my endurance ran out, so I just made a cup of tea and waited. But this could quite easily have been a death sentence in the wrong circumstances.

I guess I'll be more careful in those labs in the future!

I think these were introduced in issue 1 or 2 ;-)

    Explain Gravity?

    [ QUOTE ]
I am totally unfamiliar with the set. I read some guides, but I would like some more diverse opinions. Pros, cons, what is good in the set, what to avoid, etc. etc. I will be using this set due to concept.

    Thank you

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gravity is a half decent set. However what everyone is arguing to say is that it is basically a late bloomer. Wormhole and Singularity help to make the set adequate, but it is never a set that truely shines in control or damage. It is still a fun set though with unique powers. If you can stick with it and put up with its shortcoming, it is definitley something you can enjoy.

For more info on its shortcomings, try my other post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....=0#Post13299584

Another thought - have you ever actually asked one of these people in-character about their choice? You might be surprsied how many of them have a good explination. Or at least a passable one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seriously, do you KNOW how hard it is to adjust a perfectly good Background on a character that has been just fine for 40 levels, only to have the choice of an APP / PPP mean you "have to" change it so your powers list looks okay to other people?

I have a Gravity / Storm Controller called Mr. Right. Long story short, he's a mutant and for 40 levels, those were his things. Now, at 41, I get the choice of an APP, and as play style lead me to pick Psy, I justified it by it being yet another Mutant ability. If I don't put that in my Description (which is most likely at the character cap), then no one knows why, or how, it's there.

Maybe the OP just never thought that they didn't craft the Description at every level and just did it once?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can empathise with you, on some AT's getting an EPP that actually fits the theme is borderline impossible without stretching the concept beyond what is personally acceptable.

For your character you could always try the Cold EPP, as that could be argued is an extension of /storm. I almost did it on my hero, however in the end I wanted to focus on his psychic powers, his storm powers in comparison are very secondary.

Again I will repeat my original post to those quoting it, I am not saying people can't choose whatever powers they want. I'm not saying EPP's should be restricted to what primary/secondary you have via some game mechanics. However I am saying that I can't help feel disapointed when I see good concepts with silly EPP's to match. Obviously I've hit a nerve or something judging by the reactions, but I still believe people should choose EPP's to fit the concept where possible and not just treat them as an out of character power pool.
  12. Storm is a good secondary for Gravity because it offers some control such as freezing rain and thunderclap, which would make life as a Grav controller much easier.

Radiation is also another popular combo, because Radiation blooms early while Gravity blooms late.

All the control sets are unique, but I think Gravity is perhaps the hardest to get into, purely because of the late blooming effect.

Try 'thinking for yourself' and not being a 'lemming'. It is a good lesson for both CoH and also the outside world (scary place!)

People here are happy to help, but what you want is to be spoonfed information without contributing anything.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
I tend to think about origins and power mechanisms very thoroughly. I'll even write about why I chose the powers that I did.

For example, Holly Star is the eldest of 5 siblings. She's a mutant, with the ability to teleport energy into her body via tiny wormholes. She can release the energy, but not controllably.

    [ QUOTE ]
One of the most useful parts of our research together was something Holly dubbed the 'Showering Teen Experiment'. Holly would stand or sit in a sealed shower stall, exerting her 'explosion' power on the water around her. Using laser range finding and atomic clock measurements, I and my assistants began to detect minor temporal-spatial distortions in and around my daughter's body.

Holly mentioned at the time that she had the, quote, 'lamest super power ever-- the ability to have nerdy scientists peek on my showers'.

(Yes, Veronica, she was wearing a swimsuit at the time.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Her father, a research scientist, built a pair of guantlets for her that allow her to harness the energy, giving her blast powers.

    [ QUOTE ]
    5. The Blackstar Prosthetics

The primary problems Holly encounters when purposefully expending energy she has gathered are energy polarization and physical control. In other words, Holly has very little conscious control over how, when, or in what direction the energy leaves her body. It requires a great deal of exertion and concentration for Holly to direct the energy she has gathered in any other direction than 'everywhere at once'.

The immediate solution that presents itself (at least to me) is to construct a polarizing filter of some kind to help restrict and focus the release.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The rest of her power choices are all about teleportation and manipulation of various kinds of energy via that micro-scale teleportation. Her stealth powers work because she literally teleports the light through her body. PFF works because she teleports projectiles and stuff away from her.

That's a very straight-forward power selection setup. Energy/energy/Force Mastery blasters are actually pretty common, rationalized or not.

One of her good friends, Cynthia Corro, is a 'Gennie', a girl who was genetically engineered and gestated in a tank by a corrupt company intent on selling her and girls like her as slaves. Corro Company's genetic engineering process has a very serious flaw, however, that introduces mutant powers into genomes they create. Accordingly, Cynthia is a strong telepath, and telempath-- a psychometry type.

She was rescued from Corro's lab by pirate-themed vigilantes who work to break up human trafficking rings. The leader of the group, Pirate Queen Yui (a natural Archery/Devices blaster) was severely injured in the attack, so Cynthia leeched her knowledge of Archery, took Yui's equipment as the others escorted the injured vigilante out, and covered their retreat by dropping all kind of archery nastiness.

    [ QUOTE ]
When we opened the capsule, Cynthia came up swinging. She was extremely aggressive. Lala and Ramone Shelly had to hold her down, and I had to explain what was happening and who we were before she finally calmed down.

After I made my explanations, Cynthia's behavior reversed 180 degrees. The very first thing she did was offer to help us kill the base administrator.

Later, after I nearly got my leg blown off, I very clearly remember feeding explosive-headed arrows to Cynthia as she covered our retreat. Looking back on it, I'm *certain* she had leached at least some of my archery skill telepathically. She's held on to it, and has her own bow now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Despite the fact that Cynthia is a psi-type, her primary and epic are Archery and Munitions Mastery. Even though you don't often see weapons and psi together, they fit in the context of Cynthia's story.

I've re-rolled Cynthia several times, first as an Archery/Dev blaster with the presence pool, then as Trick Archery/Psi, a Mind/TA, and after power proliferation, finally as an Archery/Mental Manipulation. I understand that Archery/Psi has actually become a rather popular combo. Since rolling Cynthia as an Arch/Psi I've also recently found a popular Japanese comic that features characters who aim weapons by telepathy

So, depending on the story that a player sets up, power choices that seem 'off-theme' can actually become an integral part of the character's backstory.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting read Moo, I love reading characters bio's. Especially when they are well thought out.

With a Psi/Archer character its true that you could go for many different playstyles, Controller, Defender or Blaster. I think personally that is great. I would probably go for the Controller or Defender version myself, I prefer those playstyles more. The only problem with trick arrow and themes, is that its hard to explain why one would blast with psi instead of shoot with their bow. For that reasoning, perhaps the archery/psi blaster is the best bet?
  15. @Nihilii - actually I think you began being rude when you quoted my comments and said that they "made you laugh." I thought that was pretty demeaning and probably fueled by the initial few replies I got.

I addressed your remarks as best as I could. To be honest judging by the vitriol in your last reply, I think you have some issues. Do you often get into pointless arguements and take great offence to people ignoring what you say? (Which, I don't believe that I did, I thought I answered your points pretty well.)

Your whole notion that Mind/Storm/Psi is cookie cutter I have to be honest is utterly rediculous and to go back to the start of the post, it made me laugh by its sheer nonsense. Perhaps you should stay in the Scrapper forums?
  16. [ QUOTE ]
It might be just me, but I find a rocket launching witch to be an amazing concept.

In any case, I doubt she picked Munitions for überness either. The powergaming trend is usually Force or Elec for blaster EPPs.

    Ultimately...

    [ QUOTE ]
Sometimes a flawed character who doesn't wipe the floor with everything and does have weaknesses, is a more interesting character to play.

    Peacemoon, Mind/Storm/Psi Controller

    [/ QUOTE ]

These two lines, following each other, made me laugh. I don't mean this as a bad way, it's just that when I look at a mind/storm/psi, I think "tremendously powerful character".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well if you read the bio like I did, you might not think of it in the same way. Then again, people might just be defending somebodies right to do a bizzare setup like this. I'm not saying it should be outlawed or anything, I'm just stating that I find it silly to get to 41 with a great theme and then abandon it for slightly better performance, even when it breaks concept.

This rocket launcher witch did break concept when comparing it to her bio, that isn't the debate. It is why do some people do it, even when it makes their character look rediculous?

As for Peacemoon, I never designed him to be super powerful, I just went with theme and it slotted together well. He does have his drawbacks, especially when it comes to anything psi resistant (Robots, zombies, Nemesis bots who are sleep, stun, confuse and fear resistant). However in my view, I enjoy those weaknesses and that is what I would expect him to have. I also enjoy finding creative ways to combat them. In my view his power comes from me playing the game too much and being a good player who can think outside of the box and appreciate the usually disregarded powers that get a bad stigma.
  17. Undead Cyborg Pirates and Robotic Ninja Pirates aside, I'm talking more about people with serious bio's and attempts to create a theme which have been seemingly thrown away when EPP's arrived.

I guess by 41 they've lost the vision they started with and are more interested in power.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Sometimes there just isn't a good APP to take. Obviously this wasn't the case with your example, but I'm often frustrated with scrappers only having 3 APPs to choose from. (I'm tired of Body Mastery, dang it!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've never played scrappers, but nosing about in Mid's I have always been unimpressed with the choices available. Nothing really exciting and it strikes me the devs might have been worried about what to give scrappers due to balance, and so played it down as much as possible.
  19. Stone might be a good choice then, it has some of the best control in the game and 'animate stone' is a great pet to be buffing. Some of the Earth EPP's also are pretty good and then would fit thematically.

Some kind of earth druid or spiritual healer (native american flavours)

Alternatively Plant is also an option. Singularity is more about control then damage, so I would remove that from your shortlist. Also gravity as a whole is pretty weak at control and you'd likely become a slave to your secondary.
  20. ..completely ruin the theme sometimes when it comes to Epic Power Pools?

Now don't get me wrong, I'm NOT telling anyone how to play at all. However it just strikes me as so odd when someone has obviously put a lot of thought into a character, their primary/secondary powerset, bio, character name. Yet come up with the most rediculous EPP. It is such a shame I think.

The other day I saw a blaster who was themed as a witch. A great bio, and electric blast/electric manipulation. Her outfit was pretty cool and her bio was enjoyable. Yet to my suprise when reading her power selection she had the munitions epic power pool. I noted that this witch would apperantly throw out a ROCKET LAUNCHER amongst her electric spells?

Why is it that when people reach 41, their idea of concept sometimes flies out the window?

Sometimes a flawed character who doesn't wipe the floor with everything and does have weaknesses, is a more interesting character to play.

    Peacemoon, Mind/Storm/Psi Controller

P.S I realise that sometimes it is thematically correct to have different elements etc, but you can only stretch it so far.
  21. Go mind and slot for damage with levitate, domination and mesmerize. More damage and 31 levels earlier too ;-)

In all seriousness if you are so keen on a pet, I think Phantasm is the second best choice however Illusion Controls lack of containment means you will lose some damage from your epic blasts.
  22. Peacemoon

    Gravity (Again)

    [ QUOTE ]
Dominator's Lift is a GOOD power now. It does decent damage and it's a great knockup. It's like a must-take power in Gravity Set.

Propel on the other hand.... T_T

    [/ QUOTE ]

We really need to get lift sorted for Controllers, it should do the same damage as Mind Control's Levitate, there is no reason why it shouldn't.

It did originally by the way, just was nerfed early in the games life, perhaps even in Beta when it was worried that with Lift + Propel, Gravity would do too much damage.

My arguement to that is A) It wont do too much damage and B) If you design two powers in a control set who do very little but damage + knockback, they should do respectiful damage to make up for the control they are replacing.
  23. Peacemoon

    Gravity (Again)

    [ QUOTE ]
Hmmm, i hear lots of ppl say Emps sux, but teams that do not have an emp with them die alot and waste alot of time. To balance a 8 person team Emps really do speed things up, you need a good mix of types. Plus as an Emp i am always in demand.

As for Gravity, i did not miss the point. MY point was the Holds are the main point of gravity powers and are useful for locking down groups. Having a pet that also helps lockdown and acts as a distraction is very useful. As a SUPPORT POWER gravity does very well.

If you want more damage and defence you get that from the EPIC power sets.

Each AT and power has their uses, you just have to understand what they do and what your playstyle is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think it is you who is misunderstanding things. This thread has nothing to do with Empathy, it is a comparison between control sets amongst controllers and dominators.

I told you that your positive regard for gravity is probably because you are playing the Hero as a Empathy/Gravity defender, which is something you pretty much confirmed.

No offence, but please stop speaking with authority over something that you clearly do not understand.
  24. Wednesday = 1/7/09

It should read tuesday if they want to live in June ;-)
  25. [ QUOTE ]
I just tried to make a new character to team up with a new character of my fiances and in short I couldn't find an available name. Literally.

We just spent more then an hour looking for names and logged off out of shear annoyance.

At some point something is going to need to be done to free up some names and doubly so if we want new people to be able to come to the game because the situation as it stands is absurd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No offence, but you and your wife need to be more creative and original. Yes all the popular names are taken, but they always are on every game.
