  1. Hi there, I'm currently releveling Diamond Dragonfly as an Earth/Earth Dominator and really struggling to settle on a build for him.

Earth Assault is a great set and I'm having a blast. It seems to get the most out of hanging around in melee though, which is different from what I'm used to for a Dom.

So considering this, I have been worried that I will have to crank up his defence a lot to make him more survivable. Yet I know most Doms go for recharge so they can get Perma Domination. So I am a bit torn, does anyone have much experience with this set? Thanks.

P.S One drawback is I'm not a huge fan of hasten, and so Perma Domination seems unlikely..

This why I keep telling Castle that what he should do is take his priorities from the lead designer, allocate resources and schedule time with the producers, listen to feedback from the players, discuss the plan with the powers team, and then just do whatever I say. Its simple, and its consistent.
Lol I did chuckle, but you know what I mean right?

I am all for devs listening to players for feedback, but at the end of the day I expect them to ultimately do what they feel is best for the game. Players are hardly unbiased or objective. In my mind the role of devs is to be an unbiased objective protector of the "game", improving and fixing things. I mean, they are a great bunch of people and overall we do trust them to make the right decisions and take the game in the right direction.

So for Castle to turn around and basically say he was just "following orders" from the players, to me is totally rediculous. Surely someone in the dev team should have some kind of viewpoint as to what the stance on this buff should be. If Castle changed this on his own whim, then surely the devs should be working as a team and not a group of individuals and we wouldn't have this mess.

There is a reason democratic countries elect leaders and don't simply have a referendum on every issue.

In any case, that particular task is not one that I can undertake, so telling me doesn't really help beyond my passing it along to the powers that be.
Castle you really annoy me sometimes. Yes there is such a thing as listening to player feedback but at the end of the day, you are the designer not us. There comes a point when you should make a decision which you think is right for the game and stick to it. If you have no opinion on the matter then find someone who does.

This whole notion of "they told me to remove it so I did" and then "they told me to put it back in so I did" and now "I guess people will always complain" is completely unprofessional and rediculous. You are the one in charge and ultimately the one who has responsibility.

So stop being so preoccupied with trying to please everyone because you never will, and stop passing the buck everytime you do I lose more respect for you. (Yes I'm talking about the comment in the scrapper forum where you publicly blamed Sunstorm for some bug with a Shield power - totally unnessecary. **Collective bloody responsibility!**)

    There, rant over.

P.S The prompt is bad, but having to go through the animation of casting it on yourself once you accept the buff is even worse.
  4. Luckily I missed free transfer to the EU servers but I do feel for my european brothers and sisters.

Even some of the U.S servers are quite low population sometimes; I really think it is time they merge the U.S and EU servers so we can all play together. There are already a lot of euro players on the U.S servers, it feels like the EU community is being punished.

As for the CoH main website, I euro version of the site hasn't been updated for some time and looks old. Time they got rid of that really.

There really needs to be some serious housekeeping done around here, things feel untidy and messy. I also don't understand why the booster packs aren't advertised on the main website.
  5. My boyfriend has a Fire/Therm controller and its very good, very team friendly.

Therm offers good buffs and heals for a group. 2 heals, 2 shields, a status protection and even a mini fortitude. Later on it also offers some good debuffs with heat exhaustion (great for AV's) and melt armour.

I think its a very powerful and well rounded set. I suspect the only complaint is its very geared towards teamplay, and doesn't really help you solo until your 30's where you can heal/buff pets and get the 2 debuffs.

Strong combo though, goes nicely with fire mastery aswell!
  6. I think I17 has brought with it a major bug where all AI critters are trying to melee you - even if they don't have any melee attacks!

From Rikti Drones to Hellion and Skulls lieutenants and Mastermind ranged pets, they are all obsessed with charging in. When will this be fixed?

In that, anything British outside of Britain somehow has to have some nebulous, tenuous link to the royal family. Why do they have the crown as their symbol? Are they royally appointed? If not, wouldn't it make sense to have some other sort of logo, possibly incorporating British colours without the royal association?

I don't know, maybe I'm grouchy about this kind of thing because to me the old Victorian standard of the "English gentleman" is no longer applicable. To me England now is just full of money-grubbing politicians and people who think that someone wearing a different coloured football shirt is valid reason to slit their face open...

At any rates, my sincerest apologies for derailing your thread. It's late and I'm clearly not in the best of moods. Anyone who has questions or comments should probably direct them to me privately, so as to avoid clogging up Royal Grey's recruitment thread. The best of luck to your SG, Peacemoon, and please forgive my rudeness.
Well first of all, yes your comments do come across as quite rude. You are entitled to your own opinion but please, this SG idea was developed some time ago and no it wont be changed, I'm afraid you either like it or lump it. I am offering a hand to anyone who would like to join in a EU timezone community, but this isn't a suitable platform to criticize our concept or SG. Also to be quite as equally brutally honest, im suprised you even think I would care what your opinion is considering I have never spoken to you before.

Now I could defend our SG, but I don't feel like I should have to. Although I do think its slightly comical you accuse our grey/gold colour scheme for "Royal Grey" as too stereotypical, and then suggest changing it instead to patriotic colours.
  8. Hey good guide, although I don't necessarily agree with it all. For instance, total domination is a must have in my view and with enough global recharge you can easily get it the cooldown much lower.

However I will agree that Mind/Storm is a great combination. I think there are aspects of it that put people off, but when you actually play it ingame you realise there are so many other tactics and possiblities and that its very powerful. In essence it is a set that solos very well right from the word go and is also amazing on teams.

She was the sister of Nike, Cratos, and Zelus; she and her siblings were constant companions of Zeus.)

I am loving playing her as a support crowd control and buffing character. because of this I have not taken lift or propel.

My first question is, Am I gimping here by leaving out those two powers?

I have not had a problem taking single +3 enemies (it takes a while, but I don't take a scratch) and with wormhole and GDF my crowd control seems very effective.

My second question is, Do hold/stun effects become less effective with consecutive application on the same enemy?
Hi there, good concept and glad you are enjoying Grav/Kin :-)

    Just some quick answers:

1st) The short answer is no you aren't gimping yourself by not taking those 2 powers.

The long answer is that for solo play you will miss Propel as it does do good single target damage. However in team play you wont miss it as you can rely on other people to do damage while you focus on more important matters. As for lift, it does have uses but it does low damage and is something you can safely skip.

2nd) Holds and Stuns do not become less effective with consecutive applications. There are no diminishing returns so feel free to constantly apply and reapply them. Due to this you should find it fairly easy to lock everything down while you solo, especially once you get Singularity at 32 as he will help you with this also.

Hope that helps, how are you enjoying your Grav/Kin? Mine was one of my first ever characters and I do have a lot of affection for it. It is great for buffing and once you get wormhole does decent group control as well.

    ***

Really, for what you want, which seems to be control AND Damage, make an Ice Blaster.
    This is incorrect.

The set with the best single target damage, plus good AoE control is Mind Control. All of its attacks are straight damage, NO DoTs.

    OP:

Slot mesmerize, dominate and levitate as if they are blaster attacks (maybe 1 hold in domionate..up to you) That will give you an awesome attack chain.

For control, Mind is also right up there with the previously mentioned single target attacks, plus confuse and mass hypnosis.

Doesn't matter what secondary you go for, pick one that suits you. Mind is quite a busy set early on, so a late bloomer or something you can put on hold until your 20's is ideal.
  11. Afraid at the moment we have no rogue isle branch, only blueside
  12. Hi there, I thought it was finally time to branch out and see if there were any other EU players on this server seeking a home.

Royal Grey is a small supergroup seeking to expand its numbers and hopefully grow a community. Currently the supergroup is run by myself and my boyfriend, and while we are not exactly super RPers, we do like to create realistic concepts and genuine characters. We are looking to open our doors and meet other people on this server.

A small bit of info about Royal Grey's concept. It is a corperation, founded by the British Government whose aims are to track down people with dangerous mutant powers, before they can be used against innocents. While Royal Grey does sometimes have questionable goals, it is in essence a "good" and heroic corporation. All members are considered agents, who must hide their company affiliations and keep our work secret by having credible day jobs, which can be used as cover.

Our SG colours are of course, grey and gold. Our company logo is her majesty's crown. All Royal Grey agents are expected to have atleast one costume dedicated to the uniform, which can be your regular costume but coloured a mixture of grey/gold/black.

Anyway if you are interested contact me ingame, I am usually online as Peacemoon in the evenings, GMT timezone.

  14. I just turn it off and speak my mind, whether i land up on the popular side or not. I don't see much reason for the rep system except to stir up some ego war. Unlike others, I do not feel that a glowing rep is some how a badge of honourt hat validates your point. Especially when most of the people with good rep seem to get it by spamming pointless drivel which appeals to the lowest common denominator.
  15. Mind/Storm is my field of expertise and while it lacks reliable AoE containment outside of total domination, it is absolutely a blast and has very powerful single target and AoE damage. So I question people who have had different experiences.

With Terrify + Psychic Tornado, you have 2 very powerful AoE attacks which with containment, will floor all minions in a big pack. Thunderclap I also take and enjoy, as its another good way of setting up containment on minions which mind does lack. Also, fully slotted its recharge is less than 20 seconds, meaning its easy to double stack it and effect lieutenants aswell.

Anyway I could write lots about Mind/Storm, end of the day it is a powerset combination which will give you bucket loads of control (which can even be used without aggroing packs), great buffs, a heal, great debuffs and a pseudo pet. You get an amazingly powerful single target attack chain and 2 AoE attacks with Terrify(which is a very wide cone) + EPP power.

The only thing it lacks in my opinion is A) reliable containment, since unfortunately neither fear nor confuse count and B) pets which will help mop up any remaining stragglers - something my Fire Control sidekick is great at helping me with.

  16. Hi there guys, I'm looking for some advice for my Katana/SR hero. Usually I play Controllers and Defenders but decided to try my hand at something different.

He is currently at lvl 15 and options are just starting to open up for him. I would love to include stealth if I can.

My current option was to take every SR power available, is that a bad choice?
  17. Gravity is a fun set, however it can be frustrating to use and I would reccomend some of the other control sets first, until you get to grips with Controllers :-)

Also, /Kinetics does not really offer any extra control.
  18. Defenders will have Traps as their primary, so they are inherently better then the Corrupter version.
Defenders have their blasts as a secondary and are inherently worse then the Corrupter versions.
  19. They should have doubled the recharge for Controllers as well >_>
  20. ..what bliss, do they have to come back online?

    *edit spoke too soon >_>

Now what concerns me is I just read a guide on Fire/Storm that pretty much declared freezing rain as the "crown jewel" of the storm set, and I'm worried about how severe my concept is going to interfere with my playability in not taking what might be the best power in the storm set.

Now, I could go for a different secondary I guess. I mean, if I'm all about fire why don't I just go with thermal for my secondary? Answer: I hate, hate, hate buffing people. Well, let me rephrase that. I hate buffing people on a controller. I don't mind it on a defender since that's pretty much the main reason I'm on the team, but on a controller I feel I'm there to, you know, control, and buffing just seems to detract from that, at least for me because I'm OCD and have to keep buffs up 100% of the time on everyone.

And please don't respond giving me tips on buffing as a controller, because frankly I don't care. I don't like buffing on a controller, period, end of story, and nothing anyone says will change my standpoint on that. Ever. My only concern with this thread is how severe not taking freezing rain (and snow storm I guess) will effect the validity of my fire/storm controller.

    Thanks in advance.
/Storm without Freezing Rain will feel lacking. Its a big part of /Storms overall appeal, a -def,-res power which makes foes easier to hit and increases damage. It would be a great boon for solo and for teaming.

Can you play /Storm without Freezing Rain and still succeed? Of course, especially as you will be Fire/ which has higher damage then most control sets. The only problem is some teams may expect a /Storm to have Freezing Rain like they would expect a /ForceField to have bubbles, so you need to consider that.

Alternatives without buffs would be Trick Arrow and Radiation. Both of these would play better then a /Storm without Freezing Rain.

In the end the decision is yours. It comes down to how much you want your character to be able to manipulate weather. I might add that in my opinion, I find it difficult to see a Storm character who would not delight in creating freezing cold rain in which to make his enemies suffer - even if he did follow with it with blasts of fire

Let me say that I love confusion/deceive powers. I feel lost with out deceive when I switch from my Illusion troller to my ice/storm troller.

I ask because it seems with mass confusion and no AoE immobilize that does damage it would seem that you have a chance to really hurt your total XP as some of the mobs will kill each other off before you can do any real damage to them.
Use Terrify and an EPP AoE of your choice to secure xp for your Mass Confused mob
  23. I agree and as I suggested earlier in the thread, turning it into an AoE sleep will give Gravity many many more options and still be usable in the way that it was before.

Your mastery of gravity allows you to manipulate dimensions, bringing multiple foes out of sync with reality. Any harmful attack will cause these foes to return to normal space.
I think having it as an aggroless power like Mind's would be great. Imagine, you could prep a spawn with Dimension Shift and then Wormhole them without fear of them retaliating! Even with aggro though, it would still be a lovely addition.

Also as Gravity has a focus on single target attacks, having an AoE sleep and being able to pick them off one by one is incredibly powerful; take it from someone with experience.
  24. Knockback is very thematic and shouldn't be changed to a knockdown. Nothing is more fun then knocking your enemies back a short distance. No one has the right to suggest changing all energy powers from knockback to knockdown just to suit some personal tastes. Its been this way for 5 years, if you don't like it then don't play it.

If anything is changed it should just be explosive blast. The huge blast looks like it should knock people down not back anyway.
  25. I don't usually agree with Nethergoat but I do in this regard.

Personally I love the canon content, I did one character where I turned off xp gain so that I could do every story arc possible. Striga, Croatoa and Faultline were great fun. However a lot of the normal contacts. especially 30+, give very boring missions. Once you finish the story arc, they start giving you the same random missions again as if nothing happened. Come on Harvey Mayor, I just helped you arrest DeVore, don't act like you don't know!!

Do you know what would improve the game the most for me? Little things, like more types of maps. Why not have 3 or 4 variations of maps? Why not finish off the Freakshow Warehouse set and just make it an actual set, like the Lab/Abandoned Lab sets? Why not have more variations of the office map, the lab map. More maps which link, like the office which goes into the sewer.

Some of the unique maps are so well done, I am astonished the devs don't spend more time making cooler maps for us to fight in.

Speaking of the Praetorian arc, which is downright dreadful I might add. When you visit Anti-Matter's Lunar Lab, I wanted to see a huge room with a window where you could see the stars and planet earth. That would have been cool.
