Or you could just, you know, TALK to the people who are "LFM" and ask what they're looking for.
No amount of improvements on the LFG system is going to replace socializing with other people. -
I've found that the most effective way to remove spam in the help channel is to actually be helpful to the people who are asking questions and to ignore (but not /ignore) those who are chatting.
It only takes a few minutes of illustrating how futile it is to troll you, before they go away.
Your mileage may vary, of course, but this is a remarkably tolerant and tolerable game, and its channels are just as noteworthy and for the same reasons.
If you really have trouble with the spam in the help channel, you might try another server, or, I dunno, a recent game that rhymes with Guyrim. Though who knows! Maybe someone's made a mod that replicates the experience of spammers! -
"Not working as intended" Is NOT a reason to ditch or revamp something.
If people go out and buy ballpoint pens and only use them to rewind cassette tapes, then it doesn't matter, and you shouldn't change your product if it's selling as is.
Fact is people are grouping up in areas in-game, queueing up, and playing endgame content. And this is not necessarily a bad thing.
In my not so humble opinion, A CERTAIN OTHER NAMELESS MMO WHOSE ACRONYM IS A SYNONYM FOR OHMYGOSH, they did it WRONG because there's no connection between you and the other people you're grouping with. Sure you can blaze through dungeons faster but it's NOT FUN.
In this game it certainly is fun. -
I can never figure out how to work it. I can be standing next to some dead guy in the league and I keep slapping the button and it never seems to kick in. Do you have to be around other teammates/minions first? Does it only work on "team" members?

Quote:Bah. Nothing could make me ashamed of playing D&D. How dare you mention shame and D&D in the same sentence!Really, the lore for the Incarnate system is so horribad I haven't even bothered to keep up on the Prometheus updates. It reads like something my friends and I would have been ashamed of writing for our D&D campaigns in 1979.
And to be more on-topic:
Have you tried talking to him on a character that has never encountered DJ Zero? I suppose it's a rather large stretch to assume that could even be possible. Well, not that a character could hit 50 without encountering DJ Zero, but that they'd waste a valuable binary digit on storing that information. -
Victory!
Congrats on defeating the evil Red Tape. -
I haven't posted recommendations in here yet?
Well I guess I have to fix that.
Go get Empowered, by Adam Warren, and read it. NOW!
Along with that I have the almost-complete initial run of the Exiles, which was fantastic, and The full and complete collection of the comic Sojourn, which I'd recommend to anyone (but you can't borrow mine!), I have Identity Crisis, which was great but depressing, and Gotham Central, which was beautiful and awesome and just as depressing, and 52, which was awesome and made up for them both! (I love happy endings!)
I also have the complete collection of Knights of the Old Republic, which is a fantastic story about a Jedi betrayed by his masters, and his Jedi abilities manifest as if they were nothing more than luck, which although it sounds terrible it makes for an amazing series.
In more recent news, I was heartily impressed with the new 52 (at least some of it) and I think you should check out "DC Universe Presents: Deadman", "Voodoo" (but skip the awful first issue to save yourself some cash), and then the following in no particular order:
Birds of Prey,
Batwoman (best art out of all of them so far),
Wonder Woman (even though I don't like the changes to her origin),
Huntress (a limited series, not technically part of the new 52),
Penguin (same, but it fits within the confines of the new 52 universe, while Huntress is Earth-2),
Action Comics,
Detective Comics,
Batman,
Batgirl,
Suicide Squad (though I detest the change to Amanda Waller like every other human being with a heartbeat),
The Ray (this is a true breakout hit, the character is phenomenal and the series is very short),
Blue Beetle (yes, I still miss Ted Kord too),
Justice League,
Aquaman (if you get nothing else on this list get this, the writing, the plot, everything is fantastic. And when Mera gets pissed, MAN she makes Aquaman look meager by comparison. They took the "Aquaman is the weakest superhero" trope and ran with it to create a really likeable character out of him. Everything you could ask out of a comic book is here.)
Also on the recent Marvel side, I recommend Wolverine and the X-Men (a.k.a. "Team logan") for its lighthearted and very funny nature.
spoiler: Krakoa (the living island) becomes one of the X-Men! And it's awesome! -
Quote:And the truth!Really it hardly matters if this set is the worst MM set by a mile, it will still be better than any other AT by a mile. In my opinion of course. Which, as I've stated, is incredibly biased.
*releases the flaming wolves*
Attack, my minions! Devour them and I might put the fire out! -
Man we get the best patch notes.

I think it wouldn't be a problem except that you have to add $15 worth to your cart and buy that, then add $5 to cart and buy that, then repeat step 2.
if you could just say "charge me for a 15 and 2 5's" it would be more convenient, and I won't argue against that. -
Quote:ShockBlock? As I was leaving work this morning I thought of an awesome name for my Earth/Storm troller that I was planning on hitting 50 on this weekeend. I thought 'should I write it down? NAH! I'll remember it, it's so awesome'...
I forgot it.
Ever happen to anyone else?
(I love coming up with new names)
incidentally perhaps you could create a mind/psi dominator named Crap I Forgot -
Honestly I don't know how you bluesiders can tolerate it. except for the whole getting access to the midnight squad 20-25 levels earlier thing. sometimes it feels like it's easier to sideswitch full circle just for that.
-
Some superheroes are already old enough to be classified as dinosaurs.
Incidentally I have a recent issue of Power Girl within arms's reach which has magical dinosaurs in it and it's freakin' AWESOME.only a handful of issues before her run ended. (She'll be back in may! yay! with new costume. less yay. alongside Huntress! Lez yay!) -
Yeah, I'd heard before about how we'd never be able to see in-game mechanics working like that and how the craftable stuff in-game beat out the "best" gear they could artificially make by leaps and bounds.
Part of what made it special was this immensely cool thing: Every single material you could harvest could later turn out to be unbelievably spectacularly awesome. And all of it became a rare limited commodity in certain circumstances.
Storage space became a real thing that needed to be bought and sold. its value changed. Players really felt like they could be masters of industry. The hand-out stuff you get from doing quests? It really felt like a "standard-issue" army sidearm or trenchcoat.
It's a real shame that big-name developers just won't take risks like that anymore. I feel there's a lot of untapped potential there, and maybe if it hadn't been a Star Wars themed game, it might have kept going without the need for an NGE, and I certainly wouldn't have had to deal with people powerleveling through my class in 2 hours what I did over the course of months and enjoyed. Although it certainly wasn't their fault, it felt weird to see other people treating my character's career as a speedbump. I've since gotten over that, but it's interesting that a game actually managed to create an environment where your character's reputation couldn't be built in a couple hours.
One of City of Heroes's strongest traits is that a player who rushes to 50 doesn't diminish the playstyle or play experience of someone taking their time. You're welcome to play through the game as if the whole thing is the "endgame" or if you want you can rush to 50 and then ouroboros all the content. It's really nice that the game works for both groups.
Can't say that about most mmo's. -
Quote:technically, every generation is slightly more evolved than the last. So yes, we are.No, we've just evolved in different directions. Evolution isn't a ladder from "less evolved" to "more evolved"; evolution doesn't have some goal it's headed for.
And although I believe that there is a goal that we're headed for, that's neither here nor there and we shouldn't derail the thread.
Scaly dinosaurs please.
Also, I want a pterodactyl pet. -
"Timmy of the Well" Would be a hilarious character concept.
-
The price is too high, this guy is supposed to be a cheap, invincible, fast-moving, revenue making machine.
As it is now, he costs too much, he's too slow, he leaves at the first sign of trouble, and he doesn't even make any money back that you pay to get him.
This is like one of those old fables about buyer beware or something like that. I mean what is this, some sort of monkey's paw or leprechau- oh, wait... -
humans are more evolved than dinosaurs. Are you implying that an adolescent child can kill an adolescent t-rex?
I say keep the classic-style leathery dinosaurs, ESPECIALLY because it's not realistic. Keep your realism out of my fantasy stuff, please and thank you. -
Quote:So hard to figure out what game you're talking about. EQ2?...
For the crafting...yes, their crafting could've been made more mini-game like, such as in that sequel to that 13yr old fantasy mmo. That one really felt like you're making something. You don't just stand by a table, for one there are different types depending on the craft and animates as you craft, but it also brings up a mini-game interface you interact in real time as you craft...
Whenever anyone mentions crafting, it's immediately apparent whether or not they've ever played the old pre-NGE SWG, because that game which no longer exists had the most amazing crafting experience ever.
Every material used to create goods varied by source in intrinsic details. Metals that had a higher conductivity would be more valuable for some things than others, and the materials regularly changed.
My character, a bioengineer, would trek out to distant worlds, sample the DNA of extremely lethal creatures (and hopefully not die too much in the process, since I had no combat ability) and combine 5 samples into a new item whose values for various things would vary significantly based on which sample was put where.
Through trial and error on a scale that would intimidate anyone into avoiding the grind like crazy (except that it wasn't grindy while you were enjoying playing around with it) I managed to create a housecat-like creature that could spit acid from 30 yards away and tackle a fully-grown human to the ground.
Also take into account that everything everyone created, and I do mean EVERYTHING, had a use. there was no "grind 30 sprockets to increase your skill and then throw them away because nobody's going to buy them."
yup. Jaw-droppingly amazing stuff they had.
AND THEN THEY DELETED MY CLASS.
*cries in a corner* -
That's a nifty idea. And it creates a handful of villain side characters that could be used later on for story concepts.
If, say, Viridian, Television, and Dean MacArthur were to attempt the hostile takeover and Television won, then Dean and Viridian would go into hiding to avoid being executed publicly for their attempts to wrest power away from Television. (names chosen at random, I don't seriously believe these are good options) -
-
There's a huge laundry list of new io sets coming (to the store like the last group was), and players moaning about how they all suck (but that's just because the really awesome ones are already out)
-
SG's? that's ludicrous! Your loyalty should be to Cole alone!
<_<
>_>
psst... I know a guy. when you get to level 20 ask around for "Arbiter Registrar." -
I'm not going to lie, I can see a lot of similarities between the community environment of this game and that of Star Wars Galaxies pre-NGE. (we can talk about games that no longer exist right?)
The game we're playing is fun, engaging, and enables things no other mmo does. Yet it doesn't seem to be pulling in new players at the rate we're thinking it should.
There's this possibility, a shadowed rider on the horizon staring at us, that the higher ups in the company somewhere might attempt a shocking reboot of the game in an attempt to "fix" it. And we all know how horrific that can be. (Please don't delete my class!)
But there is also another thing. I'm sure many of you have played LoL. I won't mention anything about it other than this game suffers from an extreme case of "Tyranny of the Majority" and that's all you need to know. The first group of gamers that started playing the game created an environment that was extremely hostile to new players. The game itself is growing due to regular game updates, constantly adding new and cool stuff, basically the exact same treatment we get from NCSoft and Paragon regarding our game.
But whereas our game isn't gaining new subscribers at an alarming rate, the other game has surpassed WoW in active users and is steadily climbing.
Perhaps there's something WE can do. We've certainly got the assets we'd need to make something happen: a community people would want to join, friendly characters willing to help out in-game, people who really care about the game's success who would want to see it blossom further. We should really form a community effort to boost this game's publicity to really reflect what people can get out of it.
Perhaps... we could create a fan-made series of mission architect missions with a distinct sci/fi bent and a series of characters to match, then showcase it all through a trailer only to bust out the "surprise, this game's already out and free-to-play, and you might even have an old account." Bonus points if we manage to make better storylines than certain other sci/fi properties out there already.
Perhaps we could do a series of packages like that, and turn it into a meme. I'm on spring break, maybe a few other players are too and would be willing to pitch in. -
Man, I had just hit 53 on everything right before the rollback.
Oh well, I'm sure it won't be that hard to do it again.
