  1. request in title.

Not sure how feasible it would be to implement something like this, but the speech bubbles of characters in comic books change dramatically from one scene to the next, and tend to add a slight bit of uniqueness to the dialogue of the characters. We already have the ability to change chat color so that we can tell easily who's saying what, but perhaps different fonts (within reason) could add to that.

This is why I don't like speech bubble spam in newer content.
    If I may interject here...

Speech bubbles work well when you design them correctly and manage every tiny bit of what they say and how they work.

For this game they work to reinforce the comic book stereotypes, and give the players a more immersive comic book feeling.

You'll notice if you open up a comic book, the speech bubbles are almost never as static as they are in this game though. The artists play around with them a LOT.

That being said, it might not be worth the effort to be quite so anal about such trivial aspects of the movie. it works rather well as a more humble approach to delivering its content.
  3. It's just a personal opinion but I feel it's better to start off writing a story by asking what emotion you want to convey through your work.

This helps you illustrate how best to organize a series of events that lead to a more satisfying conclusion.

I was mainly referring to the well-known (or at least it should be well-known) sentiment that you should avoid giving minions in any ae mission fire control for smoke alone.

Which is a shame because there are a lot of great ideas for missions where you'd want to simulate a burning building and have smoke everywhere. turns out that's a literal NAND gate blocking out lots of people from getting that mission done.

The worst is still setting a timer on a mission and giving everything black hole.
  5. There are a lot of task forces that just get brutally hard if your group is the wrong build for it.

And then someone changes to an alt and it's a cakewalk. really frustrating though when you switch 3 people around, get it done, then realize everybody wanted the badge on the character they had to switch off of. :P

    Endless War

Recluse: "Scirocco, Widow, Mako, Scorpion. Assemble. Today, we knock over a hot dog stand."

    All: *puzzled look*

    All: "ahh!"

    Cold Domination?

    ?

Do you mean as a primary, or secondary?

Summoning Ice elementals and a Jack Frost could be pretty spiffy.
Elemental control would be a pretty sweet mastermind set no matter whether earth, air, fire, or water. Heck they could re-use models and drop all 4 at the same time as a bundle.
  9. I was kinda hoping for something a bit more exotic based on the thread title.

Magma hair, tentacle hair, snakes hair, a river of flowers falling from your head...

All animated, of course, in high resolution. with bloom, hdr lighting, steam effects, and little capes on every flower. and on the snakes. hehehe, snakes with capes.
  10. APB had the best body art/tattoo system I've ever seen, something I wish I could have on all my characters in every game - it's easier than photoshop and allows you to do ANYTHING!

Sadly, of course, that's a bit hard to police.

As to the glowy tattoos, I'm all for it.
  11. You want the tier 9 stuff bad enough, you can get it now.

You don't want to wait, you can pay faster.
But you still have to pay your way through the tree to get to it.

If you want something, you need to earn it.

The tier 9 stuff is gated this way because there needs to be something for the players who have spent more to support the game.

Your suggestion doesn't do anything BUT hurt the bottom line of the company you claim you want to support. Part of what makes the costume parts desirable and rewarding is the effort you have to go through to get them, or at least the perceived effort.

You've already got the option to pay your way through it; I very seriously doubt they're ever going to just buckle because you want it.

The carrot on the stick is there for a reason. Giving it away for nothing doesn't do anything for them. then the motivation to keep paying is gone.

Yet when you fight against enemies that HAVE those powersets, yeesh, it's frustrating.
  13. But at least it still compares favorably to Bees Mastery.

No idea why they styled a powerset after the Red Bee. What a maroon he was to begin with.

I specifically said "taking best parts while ignoring weaknesses."

If you want an example of a realistic "orphan who became rich" who certainly has issues and doesn't qualify as a Mary Sue, read Steve Jobs' biography. It's practically an instruction manual on how to be the biggest ****** ever.

If you create a story where your character can have two traits that would normally have both ups and downs, and you take all the plusses and ignore all of the downsides, you're skipping over a lot of content that makes your character interesting, thus creating a Mary Sue. Just ask yourself a key question: Does this make my character interesting, or does it just 'handwave away' things?
  17. I disbelieve.
It's not possible to grief in this game.

What are they going to do? NOT JOIN YOUR REDSIDE DFB?
  18. The statesman star is busted for busty characters.
Just another downside, but they have plenty of perks so it's ok I guess.

If your guys get the opportunity to check it out later it'd be a nice gesture. Thanks.

edit: please disregard the complainst about the aura. it's amazing. definitely one of my favorites.
  19. I think you can achieve a "peaceful" state of pvp balance by making it look like the players can get better without resorting to appeals to the developers to "balance" it for them.

As soon as they see that as the easiest way to win, it's over. Give them a constructive "out" that builds their skill in the game in a healthy way? It would have to be very well done but it could work.

    nope.

    1. Not named after you (this is an assumption)
    2. No indication of blatantly taking the best parts of polar opposite character traits while ignoring their weaknesses. (such as "rich orphan" or "respected jerk")
    3. You're integrating game mechanics into her backstory when you say she "Can't be stopped ever," and since every other character in the game effectively does the same thing, it can be argued that we're all more "Mary sue" than your character concept here is, because you actually have a reason for it. That, however, is due primarily to the [necessary] Plot Invincibility (tm) of all of our characters (in their own little worlds).

"Mary Sue" isn't supposed to be a term that's thrown around to describe any female superhero or villain that is equally powerful as a male. Your description reminds me a little of the Phoenix, but even that depends heavily on the writers.

If the power level is what you're thinking makes her Mary Sue-ish, then just leave the question unanswered and say "nobody knows how powerful this 'goddess' really is."

edit - also, it's probably a side effect of watching too many cheesy cartoons, but electricity has always been a symbol of godlike power, so perhaps a colored electric armor would work? I personally have always wanted to use it and can never quite find a concept where it would really work. perhaps this concept can do it though. Willpower is also a great "godhood" powerset.

  23. Simple: when something new and shiny comes out, create a few new characters to use it in all sorts of creative ways!

It's a good thing that in this game, leveling up IS the endgame.

MMORPG PVP, done correctly, is an enormous drain on resources. In order for it to be healthy and vibrant, you have to constantly nurture it, tend to it and occasionally trim it, all while it's screaming at you at the top of it's lungs about how the other person is more powerful than they are.

It's like a Bonsai, with the voice of Sam Kinison.
Man, that's an awesome quote right there.

Also, if I may, it might be more helpful to try and design some form of pvp where the players "build" the arena, either by customizing the area people fight in, or the rules, or the power balance (either by negating the effect of enhancements or outlawing inspirations or temps, or what have you). Sort of like a pvp architect. No idea where you'd start from or how you'd go about doing it, but I get the impression that if you approached pvp from the 'customization' side, it'd have a lot more appeal.
