A twitter account actually wasn't needed in order to participate in the giveaways. just a link to their twitter feed, and a quick reaction time at around the 29-minute mark of every hour, as well as the stroke of the hour.
As I mentioned in the other thread, opening up the link to their IMAGE feed and refreshing it while having your ncsoft account window open in another tab/window/whatever and just being quick for that very short window of opportunity could do it.
You could dramatically increase your odds from say one in 500 to around one in three, varying based on how many people were trying the same trick and had pre-chosen the same code that you yourself were going to choose.
I got #3 in the list, roughly 30 seconds before their twitter feed updated to show that they had uploaded a new image. -
Congratulations. You have now beaten every massively multiplayer online role playing game.
-
Niiice.
Did you end the run with a rendition of "Fat man in a little coat"? -
The seers in Praetoria sometimes have their arms bound to their side, can we have a "chest" option that activates this feature, locking the arms into a position like this?
Also, can we have something silimar for legs, in two different forms? I'm thinking floating standing vertically (to give the appearance that I never touch the ground) and sitting (invisible wheelchair!) which could then be coupled with this next thing:
wheelchairs, hoverchairs, and jump-jet leg attachments, for handicapped persons who wish to continue their superheroics!
(this would be really awesome for everyone, because you could roleplay out a hero's injuries rather than hand-waving them away!) -
I say keep them exclusive. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go use this pitchfork to fling puppies into a portal to hell by the dozens! MWAAAAHAAHHHAHAHAHAHA!!!
No seriously, the exclusives thing is one of the stupidest parts of the comic book medium. We're in a digital age now and that means that the "true fans" get bragging rights all to their own - everyone can see how old our accounts are, how long we've been posting, etc. Giving exclusive stuff just for the sake of exclusives is bizarre, unless it's done Pokemon-style where mutually exclusive stuff encourages teamwork and trade, instead of just being rare for the sake of being rare.
Look how much more successful Pokemon is than the things it was inspired by, including Magic the Gathering.
I say, make it available for a price, say, seven gold plated diamond-studded yachts, and then have a sale every once in a while where people can get the aura for slightly cheaper, like 0.02% off or something. Then everybody wins.
Except the puppies.

To add to this discussion, (in an attempt to be constructive) Godwin's law doesn't imply that a conversation is "over" when someone mentions Nazis, it says that as an argument goes on for long enough, the probability of Nazis or Hitler being invoked approaches 1.
Incidentally, that probability is similar for... everything else. I mean you could say that any argument going on long enough is going to mention Betty versus Wilma, Hamsterdance, Curling, the Raid on Entebbe airport, Tareg Gazel, Aquaman, or man's inhumanity to man.
I'd also like to add:
The comparison of Tyrant to Hitler began when the character was conceived. They made him into a Hitlerized Statesman. If you object to that, you should probably complain to the designers who chose to make him that way. Complaining to/about Golden Girl here, for that, is just nonsensical. -
If it lasted all summer it would only be down for like a day or two here in Texas.
-
It doesn't have to be in the middle but pick a prime number, and stick with it. I chose 3, and grabbed the third one in the list. your timing is everything.

Quote:You're overlooking the obvious. It's like that aphorism "one death is a tragedy, a thousand deaths is a statistic."
Phipps' crimes are more grounded in reality and thus more relatable than the comic book histrionics of many higher profile and objectively "worse" villains.
Nemesis is an impossible cartoon.
People like Phipps exist, right now, all around us.
If you think evil is best defined by hurting a single individual or someone and their family, Phipps has it covered.
If you think that evil is best defined by destroying hope, Phipps has it covered.
If you think it's more about the intent, he has it covered.
If you think it's more about results, he has it covered.
If you think it's about taking joy in inflicting hurt on others, he has it covered.
If you think that it's all about ruining or destroying the lives of others, Phipps has it covered, or can't do it but does as much as he can.
He's like the friggin Batman of villains. He's not superpowered (or maybe he is) but uses the appearance of poverty to lure in the weak, helpless, and desperate, and maximize the evil he can do.
In short, he hits the sweet spot in every single category.
Westin Phipps could never be given power on a scale of Lord Recluse because he'd USE IT. -
In other MMO's, powerleveling gets you caught up with your friends.
The only real equivalent would be running an incarnate task force 6 or so times, canceling the task force in progress at a certain point so that you grind out the slot xp as fast as possible and then spending cash or something on the power to slot in it.
Which I did, but it's hardly a grievous violation of player ethics.
And even then OH NO, what are they gonna do, send Golden Girl after you? -
Since I'm feeling nice and got my own I figure I can give you guys this hint.
go to this webpage:
https://twitter.com/#!/CityOfHeroes/media/grid
and refresh at the 30 minute mark. you'll have a 1-2 second head start.
if you have a second monitor, open up a seperate browser window and be ready to type in the code. make sure you've just logged into your ncsoft account, so you don't time out.
type the code without capitalizing anything or worrying about dashes.
Each of those tricks should help you out. Here's to hoping the forumgoers win a few more of them.
Also here's an example of what it looks like.

You guys pointed to the GW2 CE giveaway thing and mentioned:
Quote:Those are custom apps developed for that specific campaign.
Such apps cost money. Not saying how much, but it's not insignificant.
Just thought I'd be of some help. Thanks for listening to our feedback. -
As long as super speed gets to keep that awesome sound effect, this is all plus! WOOHOOOO

???/Time Manipulation...
Does this include that guy that manages Bane Capital?
(you know you want to create that costume) -
Also, I don't think you guys can fix this but can you contact the PlayNC department and tell them that this
Is really freaking annoying?
In case you're wondering, I can't even get into my account page to type in codes now.
edit to clarify: Both of the buttons on that page do nothing, checking the box that says "don't show me this page for a week" doesn't work because the only way off that page is to back out. -
Just out of curiosity, how many people are there grabbing at the codes? hundreds? thousands? millions? I have no idea.

In my opinion, is a better way to integrate twitter into your plan. This giveaway is for 1 item (highly valued), and it gets people to re-tweet your giveaway and spread awareness of it for days.
Perhaps you can talk to the guys that did it and see if they can work something out for you too. -
freaking ridiculous.
BEFORE 1 p.m., BEFORE the tweet appears in the twitter feed, I get the notification via text message, type in one of the codes, and it's already used.
The codes are all used up NEGATIVE TWO MINUTES after being shown in the twitter feed. This isn't doing anything BUT pissing us off! -
does sidekicking/mentoring allow you to continue to gain xp while helping lower level characters through the content? If so you could hit 50 there.

Quote:Spelled as one word rather than two, which is different enough. Not to mention no link whatsoever thematically between the characters."Moon Dragon" was my first thought for #2, but because it sounded familiar, I checked first, and Yup. Already a Marvel comics character by that name, so you may have trouble with the Generic Police.
You know, like Therapist and The Rapist. No way anyone would get those two mixed up. :P
But yeah someone probably has that name, which is why I threw a few alternatives out there.
Side note: now you've got me interested in this Moondragon character. -
Protean.
That rat-******* ruined my cloning facility.
And what's with all this hate for Westin Phipps?
He runs an orphanage! He's a very sweet man.
And what would you do, haul him off to jail?
He's the only thing those poor orphans have...
You call yourselves heroes. For shame. -
For character one, perhaps a frost-based pun isn't what you're looking for. His costume looks rather tall dark and handsome (minus the brain-in-jar comical effect, of course) so perhaps something more like a proper name is in order?
Something like:
Drumstrang
Make him a german scientist from the 30's who froze himself to escape persecution, then after he woke up, was overwhelmed by emotion after discovering what happened in his absence. Could also work as a villain just by switching the timing of his freeze process. Could yo-yo back and forth across the purple line by having retcons in his backstory.
For Dude 2, "Moon Dragon" sounds cool, is that taken? His costume has simple parts, so going for a complicated name is just going to seem out of place. Phantom Midnight, Crescent Serpent, Stellar Something, all seem like okay names, perhaps you can get something that sticks from that.
Person 3 seems weird to me. the goggles remind me of nite owl, and I've always disliked playing-card themes. in everything. -

Awesome! Grats Fabby and good luck in your future endeavors!
