  1. YEs PCLinuxOS is a linux distribution also, you said Mandriva earlier, and I don't know if the two are related except that they're both linux.

If it is what you are running, may I suggest you fins a user's forum for PCLinuxOS and ask the questions about installing softwar like XDelta, etc... there? the people familiar with out distribution should be able to help better.
  2. from a shell (command prompt) try:
    cat /etc/mandriva-release

and you should get something like
Mandriva Linux release 2010.0 (Official) for i586
  3. surprising but without having Mandriva installed, it's ahrd for me to tell you. you may be able to add extra repositories (the non-free stuff, which doesn't mean you have to pay for it, but it means it's not "pure" open-source software, although I would expect Xdelta to be)

Maybe try this: go to http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat.../search/xdelta and download the rpm for your version of Mandriva and install it, and you should be good to go.

    Good luck.

does it matter which type of unrar I get so long as it's linux compatable? It would appear that this puter already has xml::simple for perl... is that ok?
did you try to use the software manager built in Mandriva (instructions in the link in my post above), it should definitiely know about wget, and it's somewhat easier than to figure outwhat to get from individual sites, the software manager should know how to pick the versions that are best suited to your distribution.
  5. The easiest way to install software in Madrive is described here: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Bas...oving_software

The page here lists the software you need to run the CoH launcher: http://www.carnildo.com/cohlaunch/index.html

    • Perl 5.8 or newer.
    • Wine. No particular version is required, though newer versions will generally give better results. I'm sure that Wine derivatives like Cedega/GameTreeLinux or Crossover Games will work, but since I don't have those, I can't test them.
    • One of Wget, cURL, or libwww-perl. Wget is strongly preferred, as it has better support for resuming partial downloads.
    • Xdelta 1.1. Xdelta 3 will not work, as it is not backwards-compatible with version 1.1 patches.
    • Unrar 3.
    • XML::Simple, installed either through your package manager or through CPAN.

so using the instructions from the mandrake link above, look for and install:
    - perl (it may already be installed)
    - wine
    - wget (it may already be installed)
    - xdelta 1.1 (you may see several version, per the comment about make sure us instal version 1.1 or 1.x, not version 3)
    - unrar (select version 3 if there are several versions)
    - XML::Simple (I don;t run Mandrake/Mandriva anymore so I can't check it's available using the same method as the other pieces above, if it's not we'll have to use a different method)
  6. I understand how gauntlet works, but since the proc doesn't ignore it, it has a much lower chance to fire than any other AT at the moment.
  7. I could split the ATO set in 3 catalyzed and 3 not so I get the first two bonuses twice:
    increase max health: 1.5% + 3.5% = 5%
    increase Melee defense: 1.25% + 2.5% = 3.75% = exactly what I had with the Oblit set

but I lose 3% damage buff and 5% recharge (and 9% accuracy I don't really care about). gain some HP.
Not sure how to quantify the damage for the proc vs the 3% I lose?
  8. As I learn more about ATOs I am warming to them a bit.

I catalyzed ATOs truly provide purple-level performance, then swapping out one of the sets of Oblits for the ATO may be a good better than I thought.

for one thing you get a lot more endurance reduction, so Thunderstrike would not be as expensive to use endurance-wise.

I'm also going to assume the Superior/catalyzed ATOs double the performance of the non-catalyzed ones, so I think the set bonus would be:

    (2) Increases maximum health by 1.5%.-> 3%

    (3) Increases lethal and smashing defense by 2.5% and melee defense by 1.25%.->2.5%
    (4) Increases damage by 2.5%.-> 5%

    (5) Improves the Recharge Time of all of your powers by 8.75%.->10% (not doubled)
    (6) Increases Smashing and Lethal resistance by 2.21%. -> 4.5%

compared to using a set of Oblits, the big problem is that I lost 1.25% melee defense that I need to make up somewhere else and haven't quite figured out how.

Also,, I think the ATO procs are best slotted in single target attacks, but that makes making up the loss of ranged defense even worse.
  9. I just realized today that store bought enhancements are attuned (I have have few pp and never looked into them before).
As someone that does a lot of TFs and exemplaring, I tend to slot lvl38s and lower of most sets so that I still benefit from their bonus in Manticore & al.

I would love for my enhancements to be worth their max at lvl50, scale down as I exemplar, and *retain bonus sets* all the way to the min level of the enhancements.

Is there any way to attune crafted enhancements?
  10. what are the enhancement values?
Are they inline with purples? so Acc/Dmg increases Acc and Dmg by 33% each wheres the non-purple is 26%?
  11. hmm, they didn't seem to provide the same level of enhancement as purples.
I wonder if it's because I was not on a level 50 when I bought them and the pop up help gave me the "attuned" numbers for my current level?

also the bonuses listed on the wiki are for the un-catalyzed ones and increase for catalayzed sets? for example does the Might of the tanker +7.5% rechg go up to 10% for the catalyzed version?

can't wait for Mid's to support them so I can let it do the math for me.
  12. also: is there a way to enter the time as as single click, or do I have to type it in?
  13. I really have mixed feelings about those trials.

I now know 2 new players to the game that barely realize there is *content* out there, because all they do is DFB and then complain it gets slow and boring after lvl20.

This is sanctioned and built-in PLing. It's a viable choice, but I'm concerned it's quickly becoming the default choice.
It's incredible the number of lvl20 something that have no clue how to use their AT or understand the mechanics of the game.

I will agree that DFB is anything but challenging expect to get your team to cooperate to get the badge.
  14. I'm a google doc newbie.

It looksl ike I could export the spreadsheet to excell locally on my harddrive (or to my Dropbox folder so I can share it between computers since I don't always play from the same location), but is there a way to save it into "my google documents" in the cloud so that I can have access to it from everywhere, but without sharing my toons with the rest of the people reading this post?

So if you get a catalyst on the wrong character, it's just a matter of mailing the ATO to yourself twice to upgrade it. You do have to use an unslotter if you've already got it slotted, but it's not as bad as it being permanently stuck on the wrong character.
If my Tanker has the Catalyst and I want to upgrade a scrapper ATO, my tanker can't equip and catalyze it (I haven't done it yet but my understanding is that you need to equip an ATO to catalyze it).
  16. ugh, what I read was that it would increase my crit rate by a 20% chance, as in one in 5 attack will crit? sign me up!
Now that I spent a bazillion inf getting the ATO, I discover it only increases it by 2% (20% of the base 10%).
Thanks Aggelakis for ruining my day

Seriously, I jumped on ATOs in the market buying the hype that they were great and wanting to get in while I could (barely) afford them, but now I keep running into all kinds of caveats that make me really down on them:
    - the set bonuses aren't great for the most part (mostly useful for +rchg)
    - the procs aren't that great except maybe for the Brute one (I thought the scrapper one was awesome until I read this thread)
    - they are weaker than corresponding IOs
    - the tanker proc is bugged because it thinks every attack is an AoE
    - catalyst are character bound, so now you're going to get them on the "wrong" character where they will sit useless

I seem to not find room in builds to use ATOs without weakening them in some ways that is dubiously made up by the ATO's benefit.
  17. It's here http://cit.cohtitan.com/waterworks/ and claims to help you keep track of the incarnate salvage you need.

I'm all for it, I hate being rushed into picking something aafter each trial, and have many characters to keep track of, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use the tool. The designer's brain must not work the way mine does.

for one thing, even if I click on "remaining" then select an ability, it shows up as "obtained"

Does the tool work? anyone uses it? anyone feels like writing up a quick tutorial by example?
  18. [rant]
I got a few catalyst drops in iTrials on my Tanker, but until they fixthe gauntlet bug, I'm not sure I want to bother with the Might of the Tanker Proc on him let alone catalyze it.

On the other hand my scrapper is getting close to 50, and I'd like to catalyze her ATOs but she hasn't done trials yet and doesn't have any catalyst on hand.

At first I thought I'll just catalyze it on the Tanker and use one of my precious unslotters to take off the Tank and send it to the scrapper, but it's AT specific, so I can't equip it on the Tanks temporarily

I am so down on ATOs atm, between bugs and the difficulty to use them and catalyze them, I' regretting the influence I spent on getting them.

Catalysts should be account-bound, not character bound, the character bound model forces you into picking a "main" that you want all the goodies on, or tediously repeating iTrials with every character in order to get the goodies on the right character.

    3) If slotted in a power where the base chance is longer than or equal to the X times limit divided into 60 seconds the chance to proc is 100% if you hit ( on Might of the Tanker that is 60 / 5 = 12)
    4) So if you put the +Res in a power with a base recharge time of 12 it will always trigger (if the power hits.) If you can enhance that power to to get hits every 6.5 seconds or so, you could maintain a 3 stack.

I want to emphasize what you correctly state: IF YOU HIT.
the proc does a to-Hit check first, if you hit, then it will apply the timed-based math based on how log the base recharge of you power is.
So you need to account for possible misses when trying to stack the effect. A goo d way to do this is to slot it in a power that has some rchg slotted into it (usually the case if you're using IOs, but ATOs can be used by players that don;t have access to IOs and may not slot their attacks with recharge)

The above is also for a single target power. If slotted in an AoE the chance is less than 100% because it's "divided (although not literally I think) by the number of possible targets for the AoEs. so you're actually better of slotting it in a single target (there are a few exception for AoEs that are pets, like Burn, not sure if it's a bug or by design)

finally every tank attack is consider an AoE because of its Gauntlet effect, so unless this gets fixed, tankers as a much lower chance of the proc going off even in a single target attack, and that's Bad(tm)

    At least that's my understanding
  20. Alright, I got inspired by your build while trying to keep what I liked in mine.
I decided to get rid of Spring Attack because it recharges too slowly and ends up being redundant with my two other AoEs, and get Jacobs Ladder instead, it's pretty good fast recharging damage and is almost a single target use because it's so narrow.

superspeed+stealth IO in sprint get me the invisibility I want.

Ball Lightning is less damage than Fireball and recharges slower but still gets me an AoE that is up twice as often as my other two AoEs, and by using a pool that gets its AoE with only one pre-requisite, I have room for Aid-Self.
Slotting is very tight, so if I decide I don't need another AoE I would drop Mu, go back to superjump and stealth because I like leaping better, and grab One-with-the-shield and spread the slots around.

I have most enhancements at lvl38 as it's the lowest level I would but. It'd allow to examp down to lvl35 and still retain bonuses.

I have no idea where to put the ATO proc since most attacks must be 6-slotted for their bonus. Probably would have to be Jacob's Ladder at the expense of that End Red

I'll probably have to go with Vigor for my alpha, Oblits are just a really bad set when it comes to endurance, and with that much recharge I can't spam T-Strike and Jacob's Ladder every time they're up without sucking wind fast, so it's either Vigor or Cardiac, but I like having the heal and regen improvement from Vigor too.

Destiny will probably be Barrier, but Rebirth with the +regen is an option too

II haven't decide on Judgment. I like the idea of Void for its damage debuff and it's another PBAoE, but Ion is fun and would give me a second ranged AoE.

EDIT: ignore the actual order the powers are taken, I need to rework that (Jacob's Ladder needs to be take earlier for example), I was working on slotting and bonuses for now.

  21. I "fell into" the attacks out of trying to use set bonuses.
I have never used Spring attack and it seems to theme well with the other two AoEs (although its recharge time is horrendous).
I did intend to make an AoE toon, hence my choice for fireball, although I was not going for a farming build (my few feeble attemps at farming in the pat bored me to death). I tend to enjoy the feeling of melting large mobs around you and my other scrapper is single target oriented.

    Maybe I did overdo it

I'll take a closer look at your build when I get a chance. I tend to avoid Focused Accuracy, especially on End heavy build. It uses more endurance on its own than Deflection+Battler Agility+ Weave combined.
The good news is that it's not central to your build, so I can easily leave it out or even take it and leave it off until running into blinding foes or foes that kill your accuracy.

    once again thanks for sharing
  22. can you include the datachunk from Mid's? it won't import the text version
  23. I set off to make an Elec/Shield that would be "mid-price", although that's a relative term

I basically defined it as no purples, no PvP, so that I can get most pieces relatively easily from hero merits or regular merits.
I would consider HO's but didn't find a spot where it would be really worth it (not worth the price in Grant Cover for example)

I wanted the ability to stealth, I'm weird that way.

I wanted lots of recharge without using purples, so that my AoEs are up as much as possible. I took Pyre because Fireball is the highest damage, fastest recharging (my next choice was Mu but this is a Hero and I wasn't sure I felt like going to the Red side to pick a Patron, and the damage was not as high. Still an option since you get an ST and AoE without "wasting" a slot for Char/Ring of Fire)

I threw in +HP and +regen where I could and tried to be conservative with endurance, I want to exemplar with this build so I don't want to rely on my alpha for endurance

The hardest thing for me is to gauge how endurance (un)friendly this build will be.

Anyway, I'm not happy about using two sets of Blessing of the Zephyr, especially when I don't need the KB protection and they're quite expensive.

Any idea how to fix it? I would take Superspeed for stealthing, and use Maneuvers for +def at the expense of another toggle though.

finally, I have a Scrapper ATO proc, I don't yet fully understand how they work but I think I'll replace one of the Force Feedback Procs with it. I don't see myself using a full set, the +Rchg would be good, but the other bonuses are not great.

  24. Per EJI's post above, Shield can reach pretty decent levels of DDR (resistance to defense debuffs) which is important in many contexts (starting as as early as lvl35 in Cimerora)

You probably want to take Grant Cover for that reason alone (also nice to your teammates) and add more recharge to stack Active Defense at least twice.
  25. is the fact that the odds are calculated on base recharge as intended or a bug?
if the proc is 4ppm it will fire 100% of the time for a power that recharges in 15s, what if I have enough recharge to use the power every 10s? it will still go off every time? this would help in case I miss for example.

of course the tanker one only stacks 3 times so if it were to be reliable (fix the gauntlet problem) it would be overkill to fire it off every 10s? (I still don't know how long it lasts)

I'm starting to feel that ATOs are a rotten deal for VIPs, especially the non-procs. maybe of interest to people that don't have access to IOs.
