Nebulous Form is another "step" in Clair's dance. it's great for absorbing alpha when you're not sure you can survive it (void bosses) or it might mezz you.
For example:
activate nebulous form
activate orbiting death (does nothing, you're phased)
activate inky aspect (does nothing, you're phased)
activate superspeed for invisibility (also not required) since it stacks with neb form for invis
run or TP into the spawn
drop superspeed to become visible
they all shoot at you while phase and you laugh
drop nebulous form: they are disorriented, and OD starts doing some damage while you:
eclipse
sunless mire
... you know the rest.
Another tactic that works but is rarely needed:
you already have a pet out
superspeed+shadow cloack to be invisible
run in the center of the spawn while invisible
pet follows and attracts aggro, taking alpha (possibly dying)
activate eclipse
ect...
make a new pet
I love to dance! -
Totally agree with "the dance", Clair de Lune is an expert dancer herself.
I do disagree about your taking the fitness pool unless you solo a lot on difficulties that have fewer foes. Stygian Circle has never failed to meet my endurance needs. if you solo alot, just slot it well with endMod so that a single foe is all you need. The only time I have endurance issues is fighting AVs when noone on the team has endurance boosting powers (AM/RA/SB...) and stamina wouldn't help there since I usually fight AVs in nova form, unless I'm tanking.
I highly recommend superspeed, since it stacks with shadowcloak for full invisibility for those missions you just feel like sneaking around in, even better that you can recall the rest of your team too.
I found that I can't hold aggro with jut one slot in antagonize, I had to slot mine Acc/Taunt/Rchg before I found it effective enough to be a real tanker. Obviously if you motly solo it'a a moot point. -
true, I never tried to use bonfire for damage with Firecages, which is porbably why I didn;t see it asa damage power, mobs where getting hit once and tossed back. I doubt I'll take it.

how did I miss this guide?
Aurora Girl was asking about Fire/Storm in the controller forums, and responding to her I started getting excited about the potential for the buikd and designed on for myself.
Currently sitting at 16, I want to wait for I8 before I move on with.
Lots of fun, not for the faint of heart, not for the newbie, and not for you ifyou hate going down in flames once in while. The upside is that when it works it's beautiful! What controller at levle 15 can say they get half the kills on an 8 man team? what controller at level 15 (except maybe for /emp) hears "you can't go, we'll never be able to finish this without you!", "can I add you to my friends list?"
this build has a lot of WOW! factor and os far I don;t die any more often than any other AT I have played (I am however a rather experienced player, including a lot of controller experience)
I am somewhat concerned about the 20s however. at 16 mezzing mobs are few and far between, but getting detoggled can mean instant debt in the 20s. I guess I'll need to play less aggressively (awww) and rely more on controlling.
I do have a few questions:
is bonfire that good? I tried it on my fore/kin and didn;t think it did that much damage. It's a nice control but a bit situational for my taste.
You only use Steamy Mist for invisibility. this seems to be the perfect build for slotting it for DmgRes, giving you an extra layer of survivability for thosshots that do get through. its only disadvantages are endurance usgage and the fact that it doesn't protect agains S/L (you need to wait till the epic shields to do that, unless you go for Tough whcih isn't great on a controller and requires 2 power slots).
I am considering dropping Hurricane. It's a great power, I'm taking it on my Grav/Storm, but there are so many powers I want to take.
what do you think about Ring of Fire? It's OK single target damage and can help you take bosses quicker, on the other hand it's not that much damage. I respec'd out of it on Hand of Baahr, my fire/kin. -
Confuse/Deceive for the win! the sapper is now fighting on your side! and if you miss, you don't generate aggro and get to try again!
TP for a sapper into a pack of fire imps, a couple of /dev trip mines, and the sapper is no more!
I'm more scared of the knockback and stuns from all the AoEs than I am of the sappers. the best tactic ther is to make sure you work as a team and spread out strategically.
Tanks and Scrappers ususally have KB protection, so do peopole running acrobatics, but Acro will drop when stunned, people with hover should hover to mitigate KB. In the end your best bet is a controller or two, but I'm partial to controllers... -
great guide, I'm just not sure people that would benefit the most from it will ever read it.
I'm not a big fan of creative spelling but the rules given above are good ones.
Along the lines of "it makes it hard to invite", avoid names that start with a dot, use a capital i instead of a lower case L, etc...
Also many people insist on using names that spell out your power sets, I've fallen into that trap myself, but if you can't find a "good" name, realize that it's not the only way to name a character. -
hahaha! he said scrappers are squishy!

I didn't read the whole thread, but my reaction to the original post is:
huh? I never considered the CW King to be a hard AV, nor have I ran into many teams that do. Diabolique is much more of a pain.
That being said, the main problem with King is his wicked alpha. If anything on your team can take the alpha unscathed, you should be good to go.
You mentionned a few power sets that have general pis resitance, I would add Singularity: it has very high psi resitance, so summon it right in front of the King.
Phantom Army has "infinite" resitance to everything but time
Anyone with a phase power can take the alpha, that include both Kheldian ATs, etc...
Lots and lots of ways of getting there. "Read, Set, Chaaaaarge" being one of the ways that doesn't work. -
You can't sustain a fight in Human Form without Stamina, external buffs, or endred slotting. The trick is to use your human big hitters then switch forms, or vice versa rather than try to go through the entire fight in Human. Obviously make sure you don't fight with Energy Flight or Sprint on...
Later you get Conserver Energy which will help your Human burst fighting. In a triform build, the only time you fight continuously in human form is when you are in Light Form.
Even when my endurance is not dropping because I have RA or SB, I will still switch forms because I tihk it's the most effective way to use my build.
[color=red][b] REMINDER!, this guide is outdated, the new version is available here -
Acid Arrow damage is minor DoT. Think Caltrops level of damage. Oil Slick is pretty decent damage, although most of it DoT. My Hero planer says 12.6 BI 3 slotted for dmg.
I've met one /TA controller that only considered it only a control power (the click part) until I pointed out to him he could light it. He sent me a tell a few days later saying how much he loved the extra damage! -

I have been very bad about posting an update to this guide, now that my PB is 50 I really should do it before I get too taken by my warshade.

Proud owner of a lvl32 Illusion/TA controller here, and I tried to make it without stamina, but respec'd into stamina at lvl26: the build was too "front loaded" with endurance needs: get out Phantom Army, 3 arrows, and you're at about 45% stamina, so unless your style is to stand around to let PA do the work, you're depleted before the fighting even begins. Add Superior Invisibility to the mix and ... well, you need stamina.
I also have an Ill/rad, I would say that in the end Ill/rad slightly superior, because you have access to a heal aura and AM if you go /rad, and the /rad debuffs somehow feel more powerful although not as versatile.
At 32 I discovered that the Phantasm will not engage if you are a full range (about 70' with a range enhancement in glue arrow), so it'll take a little bit of getting used to making the Phant engage the enemy. I have become quite good at staying a loooong way away from the baddies.
That said Ill/TA is a pretty fun combo, more active and easier on the endurance than Ill/Rad. I can solo quite safely on Invincible, so it's not a gimped build by any means. And let's face it: Ill/rad? been there/done that! -
I'm at 48 and I'm doing just fine without Stamina Thank You.
I also have never been accused of being a gimp.
True, without Conserve Power or Light Form, you can't have a long human form attack chain, but I use human as an opener or finisher.
I never regretted not taking stamina.
I do have the forms slotted with end mod -

Enzyme Exposure - Increase ToHit and Defense Debuffs, and Endurance Reduction:
-Peacebringer - Luminous Blast Gleaming Bolt, Glinting Eye, Gleaming Blast, Radiant Strike, Proton Scatter, Luminous Detonation, Incandescent Strike, Solar Flare, Photon Seekers, Dawn Strike, Nova/Dwarf Inherent attacks (Def Debuff is not large, but if you are slotting for Recharge, you can use this in its place for some additional benefit)
[/ QUOTE ]
I assume you meant Endurance Reduction?
It should also be noted that Dawn Strike doesn't have a -DEF component.
I am not certain about Solar Flare because I have never tested it: My hero planner says it has a -DEF component but I don't think the graphics for debuffed defense (little pink shields) will show and many think Solar Flare has not -DEF component.
In addition to the powers you list both all the Dwarf and Nova form attacks also carry a -DEF component (again, my Hero builder doesn;t mention it, but they all take a def-debuff enhancement)
Like is often the case with triple-enhancement HOs, the toHit portion of the HO is "wasted" for any of those powers -
one more: the PB White Nova has 4 blasts, 3 of which have a range of 100 feet, and one (bright Nova Scatter) with a range of only 60 feet (why oh why?).
If like me you have Centrioles (Range/Dmg) to spare, you can put 3 Centrioles instead of 3 damages in that blast to make it be (almost) the same range as the other blasts. (94 feet)
It's one of those things that some people will find wonderfull and others may not think it a big deal. -
while I'm at it, in addition to the ones you mention, Golgi Exposure (Heal / EndRed) works great in the Peacebringer - Luminous Aura - White Dwarf - White Dwarf Sublimation

Peroxisome Exposure - Damage and Mez: (ie: Hold, sleep, stun, etc .. but NOT knockback) . (In some cases, the damage is minor)
...
-Peacebringer - Luminous Blast Pulsar, Incandescent Strike
[/ QUOTE ]
Pulsar does no damage so dmg/mezz is wasted here.
Endoplasm (Acc/Mezz) work great in pulsar though, since recommended slotting is 2 Acc 2 Disrorrient -

A word on TA: TA is *not* a single target set. I has a single target immob and a single target hold, which is always useful for stacking with your primary hold, but TA is in some ways similar to rad: it does AoE debuffs. Instead of being an anchored toggle, the debuff is location based and "set and forget" whcih is usually much more endurance friendly than the rad equivalent.
You get slow, def debuff, dmg resit debuf, damage debuf, and you get an AoE sleep and an AoE hold. Several powers are also autohit. EDIT: also don't forget Oil Slick Arrow, knockdown patch like the Ice version except you can set this one on fire for extra damage!
The bow redraw is not too bad because you tend to shoot all your debuffs in a row then switch to your primary while TA powers recharge.
I would think that Mind/TA is about as viable as Mind/Rad with less endurance worries (but you loose AM and the heal). -
I wonder if the targetting bind is in there?
I have my own version of "whatever" on demand on most toons, or switching between flying and running at the click of a button, etc... it definitely makes life easier. I especially like it on superspeeders with flight (like my PB) since I us SS for travel but can quickly fly over any obstacles. -
sounds like I should.

it's a great program that I tried a while back (pre-kheldian), what I didn't like is the tons of files it created in your binds dirctory, making it very hard to go back and manually edit things if you wanted to.
