Quote:What some people are saying is they will re-roll certain toons completely from scratch.Potentially stupid question time:
I saw a couple of people in this thread mention something like "I'm switching my scrapper to a brute" or "my defender is gonna become a corr" (examples). Did I miss some announcement somewhere, or are these people misinformed, or just stating their position poorly? I'm under the impression that when you switch sides, your AT doesn't change, and therefore your damage modifiers, etc., don't change either. All you're doing is running around Grandville as a Tank, with tank defense numbers, tank damage numbers, tank inherents, etc.
Definitely not in Closed Beta at the moment, so I've got no idea what GR actually does, but I've read every announcement and write up about it, and I've not seen anything to suggest anything other than what I've concluded.
For example: "I made toon X as a tank (or defender) but I really prefer Brutes (or Corrs). Now that I can take a Brute (or Corr) Blue side I am remaking toon X as a Brute (or Corr) and taking him blue at level 20.", or vice versa.
They are going to use the AT's to reimagine their toons in a way that feels closer to their personal concept. -
Quote:I don't believe I said anything about finding teams being difficult on Champion. Quite the opposite. That is why I set up shop here as my second "home" server. Well, that and Tanker Teusday had a big hand in luring me in.You can find team on Champion every night if you're looking for them. You just have to be willing to join what's available.
I also have to agree with seldom, I probably spend 75% of my time redside and do not forsee it becoming a wasteland. The slightly lower population really doesn't bother me as it is. I still manage to run what I want to run and find the overall competency of play to be slightly higher redside. I am intersted to see how some of the blue side AT's fair solo against some of the high end Vill content. -
Quote:LMAO....that is classic.Breaking News :: Breaking News
Kitten Action News has sent a reporter undercover to check out Paragon Studio's offices for any signs of the reclusive Back Alley Brawler. After several hours of investigating the cafeteria for properly cooked salmon, our reported scouted the hallways of the studio, following a loud yelling noise. Unfortunately we only have audio of what our reporter witnessed, and a description of the ongoing events. While prowling through the facility our reporter found a bare hallway with warning signs plastered all over. In the middle of the hallway a large steel door was set into the wall with a sign overhead indicting the animation department. In front of the door was a tiny figure with a brilliant blonde hair doing it's best to get inside the steel door. What you are about to hear... willl chill you to the bone... play the tape...
"GOLDEN GIRL CAN HAS ANIMATED HAIR YES? GOLDEN GIRL GETS ANIMATED HAIR SOON? YOU DO ANIMATED HAIR FOR GOLDEN GIRL? WHEN GOLDEN GIRL GET ANIMATED HAIR???"
Our reporter talked with some of the local wildlife and it seems that the Back Alley Brawler has been held captive by this... Golden Girl... inside the the animation studio. Squirrels report that they carry in baskets of food and water, and that the siege has been going on for quite some time.
More details will be made available in the coming time. This is Kitten Action News, signing off.
While I have missed his forum contributes. Knowing he is still here is enough because I know that means good things are to come. -

Quote:I would likely add toons to Champion much like I did during the first round of transfers and perhaps another server that is not Virtue/Freedom. I rather enjoy having two "home" servers.I hope when the free transfers do/if they come bak out ( whenever that is ) that they dont make more ppl leave champion, like it or not r server did get smaller then it was before the transfers. 2 me it got alot smaller. Not saying im moving if that happens just saying I wish the next transfers attract ppl 2 champion not make more leave, and u all cant say that champion didnt get smaller then it was. I mean just look @ how large BMT was like say 1 year ago and look how small it got now... =/
As far as moving toons between sides, pretty much all my heroes and damaged or vengeful in some way so they will be comfortable in the grey area. A couple of my vills, namely my main family on Tri are pure evil and will stay that way. I do plan on keeping a couple heroes pure but that could change if the hinted at bonuses for remaining true to one side are not as good as being able to do everything. -
Happy Birthday WW!!!
June 25th is the perfect B-day, well for me anyway, we gets presents every 6 months like clockwork. =]
On a side note, I just hit 40 today. I need to start living better because I am feeling every minute of those 40 years... -
Quote:I like the sound of this. I know we cannot say with any certainty and this is all speculation but I think the possibility (however remote) of a behind the scenes move like this to be very interesting.Assuming they use some sort of automated system which works by automatically filling a certain quantity of excess buy orders that are above a certain price point rather than just listing stuff at a fixed price and seeing what happens then I think the effect would be positive.

Quote:Hmmm.. I kinda took her comments to mean Wentworth's would have access to supply currently on and further generated redside and the Blackmarket would have the same from blue side. Unless there is a massive influx of new players, I am not sure the supply supposedly generated by players in Preatoria would be new so much as shifting the supply source from Blue and Red to grey, volume will likely remain about the same.Second development. She's giving an in-character reason for supply flowing in from Praetoria.
It does make sense. It makes perfect sense after a merged market. I think you are really reading too much into it. -

I'm not but thanks for the ridicule...I did not come here to accuse anyone of conspiracy...I simply asked for some input concerning a topic I found intersting that has been mentioned in other threads.
Quote:Personally I doubt they will do any market seeding for pretty much the reasons people gave above, it's a lot of effort for them and they could get similar benefits through simplar methods. That being said, market seeding would probably be a good method for creating an inf sink that is effective and doesn't upset people (especially if they don't tell us that they are doing it).
I am asking this stuff because I consider myself a pretty casual market user. I Keep 2 heroes and 2 vills relatively stocked up on cash to act as sugar daddy's for my alts. By stocked up I mean I try not to let them fall below 100 mil in cash on hand. The most any one of them has had is 400 mil. This seems to keep most of my alts well built between 2 servers and 2 accounts. Not totally purpled out or full of PvP IO's but more than capable of completing all the game content. I am comfortable with my market use and talk of seeding has me wondering if I would have to change my approach.
If the devs decide to implement some form of seeding program because, as you said, it could be an effective infamy sink, will it really make a difference in how people use the market? and would it be better or worse for the game economy? -
I agree completely that they can just adjust the drop rates and if my memory serves that is the reason wings are affordable.
However, some folks seem to think the devs would do this as a way to remove some Inf from circulation completely. Is that a reasonable line of thinking? Do the devs, or market experts believe that something like this should be done as an Inf sink? -
While taking a look through some of the numerous threads that either started or turned into discussions of the market merger announcement, I noticed several people suggesting that the devs may begin to secretly seed the market to improve supply and remove Inf from the system. I come to the land of market knowledge for answers.
Is this a likely course of action by the Devs?
How would it be implemented? Would the Devs simply seed salvage that is in low supply and remove the Inf spent on the seeded salvage from circulation? Or would they go so far as to seed items like Hecatombs onto the market, perhaps at 10 mill less than recent bids and remove that Inf from circulation?
Would people react badly to the belief that they are being undercut but the devs even if there is no way to prove it?
The whole idea has me intrigued and I am curious what the market experts think. -
Quote:I have seen this mentioned more than a couple times now and I am intrigued by how this might be handled by the devs and reacted to by the players. The Devs will also seed the Market surrepetitiously and billions will "poof" into the Aether...
If you have a Hecatomb for sale, will you be mad if the devs seed one for 10 mil less than your asking price and undercut you? Granted, you will likely never know but that is Inf you may have needed and is now lost along with a potential buyer.
or
Will the devs simply seed undersupplied stocks of salvage to keep supply liquid and skim Inf off of the pool at the same time? -
Quote:You mean I can get rid of some of the 16 salvage bins I have in 3 bases redside, on Triumph alone, and put something aesthetically pleasing in those bases...DOUBLE WIN!!!By October we should have a better idea of where the prices have shaken out to and hopefully the red side hoarders will have unlearned years of behavior.
My hoarding behavior will be dificult to overcome. I am very used to having lowbie characters drop the salvage to make lvl 20-25 heal, damage, acc, recharge, and end reduction regular IO's in storage so one of my 50's can craft them for the lowbies to use later.
I am happy with this impending change and think it will be good for the game as a whole. -
Quote:This whole post has me a tad confused. How are you defining "markets"? The hero and villain markets? The market for each individual item that is capable of being listed?? Also, isn't liquidity somewhat base on a random number generator to create drops, so to a certain extent the liquidity of really rare items is a bit random. Not sure what your "obvious" stated problem is or what your "obvious" solution is.The markets have three problems. First, there are far too many markets to have a healthy level of liquidity in more than a small minority of the markets in existence. With tens of thousands of markets and 80,000+ subscribers, this amounts to nothing more than stating the obvious. The solution to this problem is also obvious, given that the number of subs is unlikely to increase 100-fold.
Quote:Second, transparency is key to making markets strongly efficient, and providing only the "last five prices" will never be a good solution. The current limits on information provided lead to very high profits for those who stay regularly connected to the markets because they understand price movements far better than those who don't--essentially, some version of technical trading works, in the COX-verse, because historical information is only available to those who gather and remember it. Those who don't spend a lot of time at the markets end up operating at a strong disadvantage when trying to set their bid and ask prices. This leads to fairness issues, which irritates some players and drives them away from participating in the markets, and it lowers overall volume and liquidity. This is on the devs, though, as players can be counted on to do what is in their best interests and designing a system based on any other premise isn't going to work.
Quote:Third, the transaction system for the markets currently encourages players to spend a large percentage of their time at the markets handling low value items, which lowers their motivation to participate. More generally, players incur high hassle costs as the price of their involvement in the markets, which has depressed trading volume. Reducing the hassle costs of participating, and giving players ways of quickly putting low value items onto the markets (or into item sinks), so they can focus most of their attention on higher value items, would help players feel like their time at the markets is producing more "value" and they'd be more likely to want to participate. Ergo, participation would rise.
Quote:If these three problems were addressed, then both Wentworths and the Black Market would be functioning better than fine. And, a market merger solves none of these problems.
Quote:Of all the arguments presented to justify a merger, Arcannaville's arguments are the only ones that have any level of resonance to me. Wave it all way, and pretend that even those things that happen in plain sight while at the markets aren't actually happening at all.
Quote:Any RP way of presenting this is full of obvious holes. Its unthematic. Its doubly ironic that this change is being made when the game is being repositioned as being about moral choice, as moral choice on the items side of the game is essentially being written out of the game. It runs the risk of turning COX into a water cooler joke among those involved in the comic-verse. It runs the risk of having some percentage of players log on their heroes, not feel heroic after they finish supplying their and other villains, and decide they'd rather play other games instead.
Maybe not your problems but it works for me... -
Quote:While this is all well and good DJ and I may actually attend now that I am aware of its existence. I failed to find the part listing the Devs that will be attending and any topics/info they would be discussing. I think its a bit apples to oranges...and the New York choice is still Bullpucky. They were at Gencon a few years ago FYI. I did meet Libris and a few others there.
BEsides, we have a big M&G coming up here in Chicago anyway.

GREAT HORNY TOADS!!!! This is great news on sooo many levels! I really could not be happier.
Just a reminder to any villain that teams with one of Venture's heroes in a Co-Op zone...ever...he does not want your dirty, dirty wakie or purple or small red or a Rez, or a Buff, or anything from your evil little hands...his heroes are above such things.
Didi I mention how happy I am with this??? -
Quote:Sounds good. I have never had a complaint from leaving stuff like Nemesis Staff in a match like this, but it can leave certain people at a disadvantage if they have not been playing very long and have none of those vet powers yet.I'm not going to disable temp powers initially, because I think powers like Sands of Mu and Nemesis Staff will just add to the overall comedy. However, I would still like the only travel power allowed to be Sprint, so that travel ability among players is even.
If it turns out temp powers are being abused then I'll just disable them for future matches.
(Though, this does give me an idea for an all jet pack PvP match. Perhaps in a future version of the event we'll try that.)

Quote:Pardon me good sir, I am quite offended that you would sully the good name of my favorite malt beverage by including in a sentence referring to the misery that is Champions Online. You wound me...GOOD DAY SIR!!!Because everyone who plays CoH is a comic book fan living on the left or right coast. Demographics show that NOBODY reads comics or plays CoH in the country's interior. They're all savages who thump bibles, drink nasty stuff like Schlitz and Hamms beer and play CO when they're feeling REALLY masochistic.
me likey Schlitz.... -
I know these matches are fun. Way back in the day (before PvP changes) we used to have SG Arena nights and baby toons were always the first round. Then we would jump level ranges a few times till we were finishing with several rounds on our 50's....I miss the good old days.
Edit for a question...Are temp powers allowed or can we use nemesis staff, envenomed dagger, etc.?? -
Very well done event, congrats to everybody that put it together. Was very happy with my 510 vanguard merits and 95% of a level on my stoner brute.
Can't wait for the next one... -
How the heck did I not see this on the boards before it happened. They need to put these things up in a different color or something so they stand out from the rest of the...stuff.
-
This sounds like a blast but alas I have no 50's yet on Champion. My Stone/SS tank is only 37 so no way I will make 50 by tomorrow...we need another round of free server transfers.

Quote:I really hope they still make the "In July" that is mentioned here and seems to have been the goal for some time now, but with the San Diego ComiCon Dev Panel happening on July 22nd to discuss the "impending" release of GR, I am starting to have my doubts.I think you should perhaps change that to "a couple of months"
and Ocho needs to change his name to Slowmo...I had a link to this posted yesterday in the San Diego announcement discussion...people crave the info Slowmo...let's stay on the ball.
*much love to Ocho....just having a little fun. -
Quote:Possibly, but I would have reserved my nerdrage for another topic if they had chosen say Atlanta, Dallas or even Europe (someplace NEW) let alone Indy or Chicago where I could attend. Unfortunately they chose to go back to an area where it is very feasible for people to get a double dip. This is like saying "Hey, good news! We will be in San Fransisco AND San Jose! Come see us!" It's Bullpucky...Just remember, they can only do so much, and no matter where they chose, people would be disapointed.
Quote:Think like a sports team that didn't win, wait till next year.
They got their love in Boston...now they get sloppy seconds too.
