  1. I use Oppressive Gloom on my EM/Dark Stalker and I like it quite a bit. I tend to be a bit of a brawler with him so I find having the extras from a mob just stumbling around is kinda nice. I really became sold on the power while fighting Infernal on a 4 man team, with 3 friends faceplanted I ran OPG to keep his pets stunned and easy to heal off of and basically beat him by myself. I certainly do not run it constantly but I find it very handy. This was my first stalker that made it 50 after several attepts with different combinations so I am a big fan of /Dark on stalkers.

Of course the best content update was the inclusion of the Cimorora zone and the Imperious Task Force.
This...almost 4 years of looking at the same stuff makes you appreciate it less. We did the Mantis TF on our VEAT night and one of our team members had obviously never done it before. When we entered the last mish and they got a look at the Sky Raider base and all the enemies flying around it was a "Holy Crap" moment for them. Which reminded me of my first run on that TF and made me really want something new. I need a new wow moment.

I kinda feel the same way as you Net. In truth, I speed too much stuff when teamed, and should stop to smell the roses (so to speak) a little more often. Which I manage to do when I solo sometimes, but probably not enough.
  3. I am leaning toward a DP/Rad Corruptor...but not sure yet.
  4. Doh! Belated Grats! Glad to here you made it through.
  5. Alright...Alright...I'll admit it...inspite of the fact it makes me physically ill to help a hero, it was a fun event.

Perhaps after GR is released, and all that extra dev time is freed up, they could make it so we don't have to help heroes all the time. Like maybe spawn an army of Midnighters with event spawn coding and have them protect said hero as they cross the zone while the villains do what they should be doing and try to stop/steal from/and do other evildoery things to said heroes.

    A villain can dream...

No other force/trial/raid has requirements like that - do they add any value to the SF at all?
Well, it is what it is, if these are insurmountable issues then I am sorry you feel that way. That doesn't make it any less fun for me and I consider the 42 merits a good value. The last Mantis I ran was for an all VEAT event and I only had one VG mate with me. I don't see the big deal. I would guess if you got the improvements you ask for it would be speed run and merit nerfed like most everything else. So maybe they do provide value by preventing that from happening.

Does spending 3-6 hours (or who knows how long) running around the Shard add value to those? Does having to complete a story arc to gain access to Cimerora(SP?) add value to the ITF? Does having to be lvl 45 add value to a Lady Grey? The value is a fun gaming experience that requires a couple things to do. I guess I just do not see the things you listed as brickwalls to playing this content.

If a certain set of requirements means there is a hidden gem of content in the game, maybe that's a good thing. Maybe having everything be as easy as possible to do cheapens the experience of doing those things. People are just missing out on good content for silly reasons.

There are a good number of Maps still not available...there is an entire thread listing them in one of the MA forum sections. There are still issues with certain mobs not being available (Zig prisoners comes to mind) so I would imagine there is more than a few things that can still be added.
  8. Oh, and on topic, I have a Shield/Mace that was built to go red side and I may make another but not sure what yet.

Agreed, Mantis is a great TF and should be done much more. I cannot explain why it isn't.

First, Longbow are set to spawn abushes when you reach a certain point on the map. If you run straight to the bank you spawn an ambush for each point you cross on the way to the bank and all those ambushes simply follow you to the bank. Heck, if you do them enough you know what areas spawn an ambush and you can run a route that will miss most of them. If you die you spawn the ambushes set to come when you do the jail break side mish.

You are trying to do these with a Blue side mind set of "rush to the bank". You need to think red side and they will be more fun.

If you are solo you need to hit the first bus stop, mailbox, payphone, newspaper stand and fire hydrant you see. Poof! Instant extra 5 minutes. Seriously, destroy everything and do everyside mish you can on the way. I have had 40 min on my mayhem timer before I even go to the bank. As you move across the map you will spawn one nice, managable, fun to kill Longbow ambush at a time. When you get to the bank you will get the one ambush set for the bank door.

Heck, I think even the side mishes give more time than Blue side. The only side mish I do not bother with is the kidnap. Mahyems are simply one of the best things to do Red side. I really think you are missing out on some fun by attacking them with a blue side mentality...because safeguards...those are no fun.
  10. Well, my VEATs would dispatch some spiderlings to drag said music teachers back to the homestead so that lessons can continue whilst the glory that is the Hootenanny is enjoyed as well...but thats just me...and I don't have kids...so take that for what its worth.

or buy them Guitar Hero and let the television teach them music...
  11. Thanks to everyone that came out for Hootenanny #2.

    Our team of 7 included:

    Granny Longlegs
    General Mayhem
    Mister Crecy
    Arachnos Bunny
    Spork of Artemis
    Shore Lined Poison
    Arachnostein's Bride

We had to do a quick Talos Mayhem and a paper to get Bride up to level 20 then it was on to the main event and the Silver Mantis TF. An hour and forty-two minutes of pure destruction and level dings later and we all had our badge and 42 shiny new merits.

The next Hootenanny will be March 5th 8pm Central time. Tenatively thinking about a Shark TF with maybe a quick Treespec for dessert.

    See you all next time!

That window, I think, closed several years back.
With all due respect I must disagree with this statement. You seem to assume a static global population in which every person that could possibly be intersted in this game has been exposed to its existence. Kids are growing up, acquiring disposable income, buying their first comics and have NEVER heard of this game. As I have stated before, if this game was not on a shelf in Best Buy almost 4 years ago I may never have heard of this game. There are always new potential customers for a product like this.

Is retension of current customers important? Absolutely, but if that is the sole focus of your marketing and advertising than you may as well be selling cigarettes and praying you keep all your currnet customers...well, at least until they all die off.

Ok, so the appeal is limited. So you suggest they limit themselves further by simply concetrating on the players they already have? The appeal of board games like Monoploy is limited but do the makers of board games stop looking for new people to play their games?

I am not asking for celebrity sponsored super bowl ads but what we have now is zip. I imagine there will be a shelf presence and some ad work for GR when it finally hits (lord I hope so) but it should not stop there. This game has a lot to offer a new player already and people outside of the petri dishes that pass for most MMO.whatever forums should be made aware of that fact.
  14. Let's see, I have 3 lvl 50 Brutes (Dark/Fire, Stone/Fire, SS/Elec), a lvl 42 EM/Will, a 38 Mace/Will, a 24 Elec/Dark, a 22 Claws/Invul, and baby SS/Shield and Elec/EA.

I have never taken taunt on a Brute and unless I have a build where I do not need/want anthing else I doubt I ever will. I have never been asked to taunt, asked why I do not have taunt and if I was asked I would promptly show them why I do not need it. As has been mentioned above brutes taunt by kicking things in the face, in rapid succession.

In an emergency you can often pull a foe off a squishy with mutagen or throwing knives etc and never leave the mob you are fighting. Or one of the Vet Staff powers if you have those. I can see the arguement for Willpower but I simply have not had aggro retension problems with mine so far.

Besides, you can dual build now. If you regularly team with people that can't live without a taunting brute then make a build with it and a second build that is more bruty smash smash.
  15. Just a reminder. Next Hootenanny is tonight at 8 pm Central. See ya there!!

The fact that schedules change or planned features don't pan out as being feasible sometimes means that their plans have to shift, which causes delays in information release.
Castle, I think the majority of the player base (PP excluded), while annoyed, for the most part understands why the release of information on new features to the public/player base flows like a clogged IV drip. What I really think is starting to worry, annoy and make people scratch their heads at is the lack of anything outside of keeping "our nearly 6 year old game in the gaming press".

I have no idea where I fit in the MMO marketing demographic but if all this game ever did was advertise in "the Gaming Press" I would have NEVER found it almost 4 years ago and may never have found it. I am a comics fan more than an MMO fan. I found this game on the shelf at Best Buy. I do not go to gaming press sites unless it's from a link in these forums.

I may be speaking for myself but this game should not have to tread water in the gaming press until GR comes out with some new shiny. It should be actively seeking more people based on the merits of what is ALREADY IN THE GAME. Posters or some sort of presence in local comic book shops should not be out of the realm possiblitly. A trip by marketing (or heaven forbid an actual Dev) to set up a booth at a Comicon east of the San Andreas fault would be a novel idea. There is a big one coming to Chicago in a little over 2 months.

The fact that this is an old game does not have to be a handicap to marketing it. Touting the expansive content available for a new player to the game, listing all of the FREE content that has been added and continues to be added, should draw those looking for a good game experience and a good value but have never tried an MMO or have no interest in orcs and elves. I think people are frustrated with marketings narrow focus on the control of information about new stuff and lack of focus on educating consumers on what is already in the game.

I want to feel like marketing cares about the growth of the game as much as the people here do. Instead we get...well...nothing. A blurb on mmoblahblahblah.com does not a marketing campaign make.

I love the game and, like many here, I just don't seem to get the feeling that marketing feels the same way.
  17. Sounds good to me. I haven't done that one either. If we end up with an open team spot I can log in my second account on the laptop and park Jade at the contact if you want in on the missions Fifty, but I imagine it will be a full team. One and a half more levels and I can park the crazy knockback blaster for a while and work on something less annoying =]
  18. MB & Kay, I hope you two are printing out these little posts and putting them in an album or something. Many, many years from now it could be a nice way of showing the little Kay Bolts, er, Magenta Parfaits, or whatever they will be called, as well as reminding yourselves, what made it all so special.

You don't want to end up like me when people ask "How did you two end up together?": "Well, um, 18 years ago I was tending bar in my Frat and this hot girl came in. It was love at first sight. I got her drunk...blah,blah,blah...2 great years together...graduation...10 years alternately chasing/driving her away...married her 6 years ago...and poof, happily ever after!" I'm such a romantic. My wife's version is much better.

In all seriousness, tuck these away someplace. I hope there are never any rough patches for the two of you in the future but most folks hit a few. Having these can go a long way in making a rough patch shorter and smoother.

You two are great fun to team with and I wish ya's all the best.

  20. I have some lowbies I would use for a static team on Champion and I would be open to making a new one. I am not sure Saturdays would be best for me. I can be a bit busy on Triumph most Saturdays when I dont have plans with the wife.

Not sure about the AR theme, but I would roll up and Arch/TA Corr if you are thinking about some sort of Mercs type of team. Sounds like I am on when Seldom is on if that helps.
  21. The Hess TF was very fun. Thanks again to Witty and U-man for TP'ing my Stoners slow moving butt around.

I am trying to build him to run without needing a kin or TP as I hate "having" to have a certain build on a team and I HATE TP for travel. So far at level 26 he runs 33mph with sprint and I have more +speed waiting to be slotted as soon as I get another power or two and some slots. All being funded by my Christmas present for attending the December TT. If my mind wasn't so old and run down I would remember who handed those out (Warboss?). It's amazing what selling one good enhancement can do for a baby toon. I can't imagine leveling that toon with no money.(all my monies are on triumph) =[

Thankfully Hess is a short TF. That Canadian tank seemed to lose a piece of costume every mish...he was shirtless a mish or so from the end. I would hate to see whats left after he runs a Quartermain.
  22. Mark your calender.

Put a sticky note on the fridge.

Tell all your friends and family.

Tanker Tuesday will be returning to the land of no pants March 23rd (4th Tuesday) as part of a March Mini Tour!

Festivities start 6pm pacific/9pm eastern at the IP gate in Kings Row.

For those that have never attended a Tanker Tuesday, as an example of activities, yesterdays regular run on Champion consisted of 4 all tank teams: 2 running missions, 1 completeing a 55 min Hess TF and 1 completing a 34 min Katie in honor of Groundhog Day and Katie's multiple respawns.

So bring your tanks for a night of pure smash and dash fun!

I will be shamelessly bumping this once a week...=]

    Villain Hami?

lol...count me in for Valentines day...the super bowl falls on our wedding anniversary so my wife might kill me for a bad Valentines day but I have some time to get a "saturday night is better" routine put together. I can bring my Fire/Rad corr or my Mind/Energy Dom whatever we need more.
  25. I was with you for a long time Fusion. I came from red side so I was a Brute fan first and for most...mad dash from mob to mob to keep fury up...kill them before they can come close to killing you. Tried tanks several times and just felt too week in the early levels.

but I have seen the light...four years later...and I am really starting to like tanks (damn Tanker Tuesday Tour adding server atlitis to my toon altitis). Just like you can make a Stone armor that does not need a kin or TP you can make a Tank to fit your needs. I would give Shield/elec a try. That is one of the builds that I am trying (among 6 or 7 others). Shield charge and Lightning rod will have you zipping between mobs faster than any Gazelle I have ever seen.
