Some experts suggest it was the wizard Thaumatorr, in the game Ultima Online on the third day of release. Others argue that the practice predates MMOs and goes back to some of the first MUDs, and credit a warrior named Krag the Merciless.
Still others say that the practice even predates online gaming, and that a halfling thief named Stumblefingers should be credited with the first "congrats", which he said (verbally) to his D&D compatriot Eunice Beauregard McGillicutty the Third, a cleric, during a tabletop RPG session in 1979. -
Great stuff!

Yeah, nice article. ^_^

People should make use of the IO storage bins in the base. There are a lot of random IOs that have been tossed in there, so you never know if you might find something useful. I just did a respec on Tainted Candy when I upgraded to a few sets of level 26 IOs, and I salvaged what I was able to and tossed it into the bin -- a few Basilisk Gazes, some of the lesser heal and immobilize IOs. They're low teens in level, not worth much but they worked for me from my low teens up to level 23 so I'm sure someone else could find a use for them.

Quote:Depending on the IO, it may well be worth 2 billion or more. After all, it's the only one in the game! ^_^So if some really really one-in-a-million type bug occurs and you actually get a level 53 set IO recipe or BB/WW TP inspiration, you'd best not tell anyone. Instead, make a beeline to the nearest BB/WW and put it up for 1 inf!
I mean, if I had a 2 billion bid on something like that and actually bought it... I might offer it up in the Market forums and see if anyone wanted to bid 2.5 billion on it... for certain players the .2% or whatever difference it might make would be tempting.... -
Quote:Still a valid tactic at level 50, provided you DO blow everything up. ^_^ Tight groups of Nemesis in PI for example... buildup + aim + rain of fire + fireball + fire breath (or fire sword circle if you're so inclined) will likely kill everything before they can really unload on you.
"Blow everything up RIGHT NOW." -
Didn't get on early enough for the fire/rad team (did a hami raid on Virtue first), but I managed to play Tainted Candy on a PuG last night and made it to 22.5. I've bought a few sets of IOs for her at level 26, so I'm looking forward to getting to 23 tonight so I can slot them.
On my other MC front, Midieval Crisis is at level 27 and still on Virtue, with most of the IOs I wanted at level 30 bought and slotted (at least, where I have the slots available so far). I plan to use merits (from things like the above hami raid) to buy a level 30 LotG +recharge for him before I transfer him over to Freedom.
I ran him through most of the Striga content over the weekend, so I not only earned some merits but will have Hess as a contact. ^_^ -

Didn't think of that but it probably should be in there.
I guess I could probably get it recorded if I really wanted to. I dunno, I just threw it together for fun. But several friends are talented musically (not me mind you), one who is one of the best blues guitarists in the Seattle area. (He can play other styles besides blues of course). -

Quote:Although I could swear it was always at 75%, I'm actually at 73.84% currently with no outside buffs:Curious how your Scrapper has 75%. My Brute is sitting at just over 70%, and that's with all the Invuln powers plus Tough.
16.24% Tough
5.87% Unyielding
35.23% Temp Invulnerability
11.74% Resist Physical Damage
2.25% Cimeroran (Day Job Badge)
2.5% Moderate Increase in Damage Resistance (from the 1 set of Kinetic Crash I have slotted)
I guess when it's been at 75% I've probably had some outside buff help. -
Quote:That actually hasn't been my experience the last two months, but in general raids on Virtue are very well attended, yes. That's why they often run 2 in a row.True about Virtue, the only downside is you need to arrive AT LEAST 30 mins before they begin monster clearing to ensure you get there before the zone fills up. And, as with any Hami raid on any server, make sure you have a solid connection because it only takes one disconnect to screw you over. At least 5-10 are always waiting outside the zone waiting to pounce on that opportunity.
Blueside runs hami raids every Monday and Wednesday and sometimes other days, Redside runs Tuesday and I believe Thursday and sometimes other days. Everyone welcomed to show up.
When there's enough people (at least Blueside) they like to run evacless raids, which are a lot of fun. -

Well, it's a bit like patience with the market. If you keep asking around and are patient you'll find someone who'd rather have their money red side, then a 1:1 trade works for both sides.
-
Quote:Xantos? Who's Xantos? *whistles innocently*I'm not sure who Xantos is but I definitely agree with him & you!
I didn't know some people exchanged money as a "service". All this time I thought people were doing it because they wanted the change of currency. Most of my exchanges have been 1:1.
Also, I *know* I helped you move a billion infamy before, and I'm almost certain I charged you for it. ^_^ -
That sounds like Lord Vetinari, who is certainly my favorite tyrant.

Fidel From Hell, on Liberty, has not been logged into for 2,049 days.
He had two companions, Undead Lenin and Trotsky Reborn. Both of my friends no longer play the game so they've probably languished for a similar length of time. ^_^ -
Quote:Her problem is that they ARE selling (note last five sales are within last 15 days) but she can't outbid other people for them even if she wants to and is capable of doing so.Because if people aren't willing to list their pvp recipes fo 2 bill 2.25 2.5 3. or 3.5 isn't really going to produce an upswing in supply.
I suspect there is no one out there holding on to these recipes. If they can't use them, then the only incentive not to list them for sale would be if you wanted to come here to the market and offer it up for sale direct to the buyer (no market fee) or ask for even more than 2 billion. And it sounds like you'd have a taker on that offer. ^_^
I'm not in favor of recipes being sold directly by vendors, that would wreck the player market, but I wouldn't mind seeing PvP recipes drop more often. Also for mild-level Pool C's I'd like the option to be able to roll randomly at a level of the player's choosing, rather than their actual level. As far as purple recipes go, I'm one of those that thinks things are working as intended. They're meant to be that rare. -
-
Quote:Supply and demand exists for the top levels of popular sets, but you're right, lower levels can be very very scarce. In this case it may be that all the recipes that ARE being sold are for personal use, so nobody's crafting to sell. Sometimes your best bets are to buy at other levels, wait weeks or months on your bid (on stuff that rare I'd always bid on the recipe first, not the crafted IO), or buy outright with merits.Supply and demand, i understand all about that. But when i looked to get a couple crafted 40 oblits, the last 5 still had a sept. date on it. That's screwed up if you ask me. If it takes 3 months to obtain 5 sold, i find that hard to place under the "supply and demand" category. On the other hand, if the last 5 sold were within the last week, there's you "supply and demand" argument. Then you can justify placing bids to let sit.
-
Good luck then. I have no particular reason to move my money redside other than if it profits me.
Also you might want to clarify what you mean by 1:1.6. Maybe I'm confused but it looks like 1 influence for 1.6 infamy, which would be 1 billion influence for 1.6 billion infamy... yes? I made what appeared to me to be a much more reasonable offer than what you initially proposed.
Not that I know anyone that charges that. Most people who have performed this sort of service have charged 10% if it's on a server they play on, 20% if they have to move money through Wentworth's (where you lose 10% on the transfer).
Realistically Fulmens is the only one that routinely offers this service these days so if he's now charging 1:1.25 then I probably should too. ^_^ -
Forgot to add, I'd charge 10%, or 1.1 billion infamy for 1 billion influence. I should be on for a couple of hours this morning, unless it's as dead as it was last night. ^_^
