Quote:Well in the old days, right after a hami raid was your best chance to get the badge. Any other time, and hami might be waiting for you.I always assumed that the Heart of the Hamidon badge was only obtainable when Hami was up. It's not. You can run into the Hive any time you want and grab the badge. Just beware of DE Monsters!
These days, hami doesn't come out except when raids are in progress. ^_^ -
I prefer melee characters but there's nothing I've tried that I have found difficult for me to play and enjoy. Probably I have the most trouble with Empaths, just because of people's attitudes towards them. You meet too many people who think you're supposed to be a heal bot and nothing else. I've played three different ones to 25, no higher. kins and other heavy buffers (ice, sonic, fire) bug me to play a little too.
The other thing is Master Minds. Not that I don't like playing them, I played a bots/dark to 43 and enjoyed it very much, but it's not a class you can just pick up and play for one evening after months of not playing them. I want to get my MM to 50 but it will take me a few nights to get back into the swing of things, they're much more complicated than a scrapper or blaster (at least if you want to do it right). ^_^ -
First of all, especially heroside the higher-level task forces tend to be newer and much more imaginative. I mean, compared to Positron or Citadel for example.
Villainside you don't have the same problem of old, bloated, relatively boring task forces, but you don't get as many to choose from either.
The Lady Grey Task Force is great fun. That's a co-op task force in the Rikti War Zone, where the ship raids happen too.
The Khan Task Force is... not one of the best, but not bad.
The Imperius Task Force is lotsa fun. That's co-op too, takes place in Cimerora.
I've never actually run the Statesman Task Force but I know it's also fun. (Well... I've been on a team that ran the first mission and then self-destructed.)
Hami raids are fun, to me anyway.
There are four task forces in the Shadow Shard. Probably the less said about that the better, though... they are of the old-school variety, long and not overly imaginative. But the zone itself is awesome.
All other Task Forces in the game are available to you through the magic of exemplaring. ^_^ Nearly all other mission arcs are available to run again through Ouroboros. You can still run countless AE missions.
Most importantly... you can still improve your character a great deal through IOs, making them more fun to play.
I still like to level up characters (I have severe altitis) but my 50's with complete builds are the most fun to play, even when exempted down a little. ^_^ -
Quote:This has certainly been my strategy. Looking at builds and planning your own builds will tell you what IOs are useful. Buy those low, craft and sell high (or just relist high). Nothing more to it than that.Personally, i don't think it takes a genious or any guide to be able to make inf in WW. Look for uncrafted recipes, add the salvage to it, craft it, then SELL it. Easy peasy. Or place 15 low bids on something, get it, relist it higher and wait for it to sell. Which ones? You may ask. Well, any of the good recipes that you want on your toons. Posi, Oblits, Imperv Armor, LotG, Numina, Doctored Wounds, ANY PURPLE, Decimation, MOST UNIQUES, PROCS...
I don't have a secret niche. My niche is "any damage, defense, resist, heal IO that is useful and popular for builds" plus anything else that people routinely buy and use. -
Quote:On the bright side, you build should be finished by the time you retire. ^_^

A lot of badge text is like that really.
Illusionist is much easier to get than it used to be. Once upon a time you needed to defeat 100 phantasms. These days, the three Illusionists that the Master summons, along with her Dark Servant, all count toward the badge, and you only have to damage the illusionists to get credit for the kill once they despawn.
This means you can get 5 kills toward the badge per Master Illusionist encounter, or, if you keep her alive, per cycle of her powers (every 4-5 minutes roughly). A mission full of Master Illusionists will get you a huge chunk of this badge, or two people farming in tandem in PI off two different illusionists can accomplish it in 30-40 minutes. -
Quote:Last year at this time I was happily playing characters that had generic IOs, SO's, and the occasional set builds created with whatever I could manage to afford. I thought 100 million was an incredible amount of money. I crafted and sold generic IOs, a couple of my characters had made it over 100 million, I thought I was living large.I think the forums themselves exacerbate the issue. Look at what happens when someone asks for build help: Purples, multiple LotGs, etc. Gives a new player the impression that they are supposed to have such in every build on every character. Some people are good about asking for budget builds, and some people are good about offering them. But most budget builds get ridiculed when posted.
Then I came across a post on the forums showing how to soft cap an invulnerability tank vs. smashing/lethal fairly cheaply. I took it into my head to apply this build advice to my katana/regen scrapper.
After doing so, a friend of mine explained the difference between positional defense and typed defense, and helped me come up with a positional build for my katana/regen scrapper. I later realized that even building for defense on a regen is not necessarily the best route to take, but anyway... I spent my 100 million, and I still needed more IOs.
I was poor. So I took the advise of those on the Market forums, and made myself rich.
One year later, I've rebuilt nearly two dozen toons with builds ranging from 500 million to well over a billion each... I've purpled out a fire/fire blaster and a dark melee/electric armor brute (builds that I've likely spent more than 2 billion on... in fact the brute for sure as I had 2 billion at one point and spent it all)... I market with more than a dozen different characters and have anywhere from 300-500 million on each of them at any given point, and a couple who are billionaires... and my main is at 2 billion again, despite my liberal spending habits.
So I agree that all of the builds posted on the forums can lead to wanting those builds... but if you really want it, you can get it. Money does rain from the skies.
(As an aside... "purpling out" a toon is generally useful if you want large recharge numbers. My blaster has about 125% global recharge BEFORE hasten kicks in (if I remember right). But many of my builds are for scrappers or tanks so I'm building for defense first; "purpling out" one of them wouldn't help me that much. But defense builds can be expensive too.) -
They had to alter the purchase program to do the free transfers, so it's impossible to actually buy extra transfers right now. But if yours are used up you should be getting 6 new ones within a week. That worked for me, anyway.
And it's good until the end of the month, for anyone who still doesn't know. -
Quote:Also you can right-click on any attribute and select to monitor that attribute. This places that attribute in a small window that you can place anywhere on your screen. You can monitor up to... 10 lines, I think. One of my favorite tricks, very useful for keeping track of hit points, total influence, defense numbers, etc.- You can see your combat stats in-game by clicking Powers > Combat Attributes. (It took me a year to figure this out).
Quote:- Any character, not just Masterminds, can open the Pet window, although you will not be able to command your pets. The trick is that you have to first go into the options panel and turn the Pet window option on, then go to the Team window and click the "Pets" label to open the window (this, too, took me a year to find out about).
One of my favorite bind tricks: target_custom_next enemy. You can use this to target a specific enemy immediately. I picked this up from the kheldian section, and I use this bind on most of my scrappers and tankers:
/bind TAB "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next enemy alive quantum$$target_custom_next enemy alive void$$target_custom_next enemy alive cyst"
The first part of this bind is a generic target command, the other parts are specific commands. This will auto-target the nearest void, cyst, or quantum in your field of vision, and will only target them as long as they are alive. For that reason it can sometimes be annoying, if you bind your TAB key like this and want to target a group nearby rather than the void on a rooftop two blocks away (for example). Something to consider if you use the TAB key to target like I do. (But if there is no void, cyst or quantum around it will function normally.)
I will often modify it to include sappers as well:
/bind TAB "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next enemy alive quantum$$target_custom_next enemy alive void$$target_custom_next enemy alive cyst$$target_custom_next enemy alive sapper"
But this can be bound to any key and used to target any type of enemy as long as you include a unique part of their name. For example:
/bind X "target_custom_next enemy Fake Nemesis"
Should bind your X key to specifically target Fake Nemesis. Then you can run around PI hitting the X key and the only thing you will target will be Fake Nemesis's.
Or, for example, hunting Overseers in FBZ, where picking them out from the other floating eyeballs can be very helpful. You can use this trick to auto-target any kind of enemy you're hunting for. -
Here's a secondary build for Tainted Candy (actual level 33). I call this my "Positron Stealth" build. This is specifically designed for running Positron, so the important parts of the build are what powers I pick to level 20, and what enhancements I slot for those powers, using level 18 or less IO sets.
Most of this was very cheap to do but some of the pieces I'm still trying to buy. There aren't a lot of set IOs for sale below level 20.
I wanted to have super speed and stealth, which allows me to stealth missions that allow that. Recall Friend so that I can get the rest of the team to me. Stamina by level 20, that was vitally important. I didn't include any debuffs because those are most useful versus big enemies like AVs, and there aren't any on a Posi.
I wanted as much recharge as I could muster at these levels, so I have Hasten and I believe I'll have... about 18% global recharge from set bonuses (from those powers I have access to at level 15.)
Pretty much anything else I get along with that is gravy in my opinion. ^_^

I tend to log in my marketing toons no more than 3 times a week, some of them only once a week. If lower levels are something I could buy ten of within a few days, that would be something I could look into. I like to buy in stacks of 10 at a time for crafting.
But I really have no trouble making money. ^_^ -
Ran a Moonfire TF this morning. I was really worried about the team at first, since it was a total PuG and some people didn't seem to know exactly what they were doing. The leader asked us if he should set any limits on the TF... several people didn't know what he meant. I said "probably not a good idea for a PuG" and someone in the group didn't even know what "PuG" meant. So, yeah, some inexperienced players.
The leader had sent met tells before I joined that he was going to do a TF, but despite this, one person quit literally 30 seconds after we'd started. A second person quit when we were more than halfway through saying his wife was yelling at him. The team took an inordinate amount of time starting the second to last mission... seriously, it was nearly 15 minutes before we could get started. Then when we'd finished that one, I said, "this is the last one," and someone immediately said, "Thanks, guys!" and quit and logged off. I couldn't tell if it was because he thought we were done or what.
Anyway, it was just over 2 hours for a task force that really shouldn't take that long. It was 36 merits. I rolled: Mako's Bite Dam/Rech and Mako's Bite triple. Bleah. Crafted and dumped into the SG bin. -
Actually, a 2 billion bid on 1 GA +3% def is not exactly unsafe. As others have pointed out, it's looking like you can sell these off-market for a substantial profit. ^_^
You know, don't just lock your money away. Make it work for you! -
EVERY decade, people in their 30's and 40's say that music isn't good anymore. That's only true if you listen to what's popular, in my opinion. Popular music usually sucks. I'd probably agree that it's even worse today than it used to be, but still.
I'd have to think hard to come up with a list of what I consider the best music of the last decade... but just as an example, I listen to a lot of folk metal, viking metal, and goth metal, and there was very little of that in existence before 2000 so at the very least it's not just a rehash of what's gone before. I also listen to a lot of folk and world music fusions, and a lot of that kind of thing produces music unlike what's come before.
I'm a big fan of anime and manga and there was a huge explosion in popularity for that stuff in the last decade. There's a lot of things I like in those categories that came out since 2000.
Heck, World of Warcraft may have changed the field of MMOs, but let's not forget that EQ itself only came out in the Spring of 1999. It wasn't quite the first MMO but it changed MMOs quite a bit. I'm not sure we would have gotten to WoW if not for EQ.
The Lord of the Rings makes my list, that's a no-brainer. Probably should mention Pixar too, most of what they've done has been this decade hasn't it? -
I tend to view Crushing Impacts and Thunderstrikes as sort of "getto" IOs as far as crafting and selling goes. It's true that they come from nice sets that people like to use, but they are so common that even with the cheap cost of salvage (no rare salvage required), it's hard to make much of a profit crafting and selling them.
That's mostly from the level 50 market point of view, but if I get drops for them at any other level I have no problem crafting and tossing into the storage bin. They're not going to make me a lot of money otherwise.
I will craft and sell them occasionally just because I have a dozen other characters who are already bidding on or selling every other useful damage IO I can think of that can make me money.
Red Fortunes and Titanium Coatings fall into a similar category (actually, they're even worse, except red side). Doctored Wounds are just about the only all-common level 50 IO set that I make good money crafting, at least for certain pieces of the set.
I'll keep a lookout for any other damage IOs that are triples or include accuracy.
Also, how do you buy random rolls? I've never done that. -
Listed: Numina's unique, level 30 crafted
Listed: Miracle unique, level 33 crafted (did a Sister Psyche tonight, this was the first of my two rolls)
Crafted & placed in SG bin: the Oblit dam/rech level 34, decimation dam/rech level 33, Numina's rech/end level 33 (blah), Mako's Bite dam/rech level 33 (my other random roll).
So there's some damage IOs for whoever needs 'em. -

I have Tainted Candy and Medieval Crisis as heroes, and now have Serpentine Fire as a villain. I made a fire/willpower brute, and when I couldn't come up with a good fire-based name I just used the name of my blaster who I moved from Freedom to Virtue a few weeks ago. Nobody had claimed it in the meantime. ^_^
Also: I moved several of my high-level Freedom characters to Virtue, but I may happen to be on Freedom as my level 42 ice/ice blaster Mouse Police (my highest toon on Freedom now). Not to be confused with Mouse Police, my level 50 katana/regen scrapper on Virtue, or Mouse Police, my level 50 fire/SR scrapper on Victory. To say nothing of Mouse Police, my level 29 dark/invul scrapper on Pinnacle that I never play anymore, nor Mouse Police, my level 25 empath on Infinity.
Postagulous has at least four different characters in the hero SG I think...
We really should have a SG channel. Should it just be "Medieval Crisis" or does that discriminate against the villains?
Also, when storage bins are added to a base, I think only the SG/VG leader can set privelidges on it. -

Tonight's Merit Roll: level 33 Numina's Convalescense triple. Crafted and listed.
Random drops: Decimation Dam/Rech lvl 33, Numina's End/Rech lvl 33, Obliteration Dam/Rech lvl 34. To be listed, or possibly crafted and placed in the SG bin, when I have more market space. ^_^ -
Quote:* You can mission drop the door mission given to you by Coyote in the tutorial, and still get to level 2 and your choice of destination to either Atlas Park or Galaxy City. Presumably, you can do the same thing with the Arachnos Pilot during the villain tutorial.
Absolutely, I've done it many times. -
I've done that. I just swim around. There's no snipers in the ocean.

Woo, congrats! Welcome to the club!
