  1. It's only happened to me in Mercy Island, redside. There it happened every single mission.
  2. Massive looped exploding Rikti drones was very amusing, especially since I was on a Lady Gray TF team at that time. Amused me to no end.

Killing hami with a single shot, although I didn't witness it myself, has got to be one of the most amusing bugs ever.

But I have a fond spot for the armless freakshow tanks. Just amused me to no end.
  3. Thanks for the suggestion, but it appears to be set to allow the program to control settings, so I don't think that's my problem...
  4. Not to knock Shawn much, but I always felt that the year they went to the superbowl, virtually anyone could have been a thousand-yard rusher behind Jones and Hutchinson. They weren't just the best left guard/tackle combo in the league, but possibly ever.
  5. If the market is down for at least the weekend (as the title of the post stating that it's down indicates), is there any value to offering salvage and IOs for sale (or offering to buy salvage and IOs) either via a thread here on the market forums, or via chat channels in-game?

A lot of people here on the forums have things squirreled away in their bases that I'm sure they'd be willing to sell, if the price were right. I don't hoard salvage so much, but I have private bases on Virtue and also Freedom where I keep bins full of crafted IOs for my own use and also to sell later. With the new e-mail system, as I understand it I can make deals with any other hero on any server, or with a villain I can trade with any other villain -- even those on EU servers? True?

I don't necessarily see any value in broadcasting what I have for sale in-game, unless I have a specific high-value IO that I wanted to sell many might want to buy... but would listing things that I have in my base that could be available for sale here on the forums be of any use? Considering that, most likely, most people who normally buy these IOs from me don't read this forum anyway?

Even if that would be of little use, I do see a value in posting here for IOs that you want to buy, to see if anyone has them available. Possibly for salvage as well, although probably broadcasting in-game for someone who has that would work better (and you can purchase salvage with tickets of course). Posting to The Market in-game channel would also be a good way to find someone who has that specific IO that you're looking for.

I'm just thinking that people are going to want to IO characters before the market comes back up, and there's already a bit of off-market trading and selling that goes on here and in-game, especially for very valuable IOs.

    Thoughts?
  6. My I-17 experience so far:

2nd computer will not run the game. Freezes up.

    Nemesis staff animation is broken.

Various other graphic bugs and glitches. Hopefully some of this gets fixed in a week.

Haven't pre-ordered anything so I can't summon demons. Or fire pistols yet for that matter.

All of my catgirls have tails that swish now. ^_^ Also my canine defender Dog Is My Copilot. I forgot about Sewer Ratty though, need to get her a moving tail too.

Market Interface: bugs haven't hit me yet. It's... okay. Kind of confusing, but I'll probably get used to it, and has some nice advantages over the old one I guess.

I kept hearing car horns honking. Since when do Paragon cars come with horns?

Water and shadows look pretty. I lag more than before, of course. My gaming computer is long in the tooth.

Ran the first of the new Posi task forces. We all agreed it was cool. Took us almost 2 hours, but we had multiple team wipes due in part to a determined attempt to use no other strategy than, "Ready? No? Well I'm charging in right now anyway!" It was a SG-only TF so it's not like I can complain about others too much. ^_^ I do think that 11 merits is a bit low for that first TF, but I very much liked the changes, the new maps, the surprise enemies.
  7. Not sure if I have any such programs running, but I'll check again tonight. I don't generally use voice chat and I don't like having a lot of programs running, aside from Avast! security and Spybot Search & Destroy. I do have that silly Last.FM music scrobber thingy, can't remember if I shut that off last night before my final attempt.
  8. A. Tried running with no other program open on my toolbar. Same result.

    B. Turned off my virus protection. I have Avast! on this computer, which is different from the other computer which is running AVG. But still, same result.

At the moment it just looks like the I-17 patch will lock up on this computer regardless of what I do.

    Oh, I did that.

Current theory is that people are reporting problems with sound or with other programs running at the same time. I have music turned off from the older machine but not the one I'm having problems with... and I may have had other programs running each time I tried running it, so gonna try once more.
  10. Installed lastest Nvidia driver anyway. Same problem.

Tried running verify files... and it locked up halfway through that.

This is not a driver or maybe not even an Ultramode problem, it appears to be an I17 problem. Not sure what to do. Do I have to reinstall at this point?
  11. Well, that sounded like the right suggestion. Unfortunately, the game does exactly the same thing in safe mode -- locks up before i see the character select screen. Music plays, mouse does not freeze, but nothing happens and I'm unable to close the game. Can't window-tab out to the task bar, can't call up the task manager. Forced to reboot.

Any other way to disable or reset the settings from outside the game?
  12. I run CoX on 2 different computers. Surprisingly my older computer could run Ultra Mode... I set it to the lower of two settings and it worked fine, just a bit more lag than before.

My newer computer also said it could run Ultra Mode. I also picked the lower of 2 ultra mode settings. When I get to the server selection screen and pick a server, the game appears to lock up. Music still plays, mouse moves, but nothing happens, and I'm unable to shut the game down without rebooting the computer completely.

I ran MSI Live Updater 4 and all of my drivers appear to be up to date, but the game still locks up in the same fashion every time. Is there a way to disable Ultra Mode from outside of the game? I'd switch back to normal mode but I can't get into the game so I can't change the settings.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card, MS-7250 mainboard. 2 gigs ram, Win XP, AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core processor BE-2300...

I did say that my Invul scrapper was MA. And yes, it's a wonderfully fun set to play.

One thing to consider... as Exxar said, Smashing Haymakers are a cheap substitute for Kinetic Combats, and Multi Strikes are a cheap substitute for Obliterations... but a scrapper needs more help to cap than a tank, and also an MA/Invul scrapper (in my experience) is a fairly endurance-heavy build, Broadsword probably even moreso. You want as much recovery as you can manage. That's rarely cheap either.
  14. If you can afford to put together, on a whim, a build that involves the most expensive purple and PvP IOs out there, then you're obscenely rich. You'd be talking billions upon billions at that point.

I probably couldn't do that. I may have 15-20 billion spread out over all of my characters, at most. What that allows me to do is IO out any new alt I want to, within reason. I've only "purpled out" two toons, one heroside one villainside. (One purple set does not equal "purpling out" of course).

I've never purpled out a Warshade, although it's still one of my eventual goals. ^_^

If I were to strip all the IOs off all of my toons and sell them, then yeah I probably have considerably more than 20 billion. But at some point I make money only to IO out my toons. I've hit 2 billion on at least 3 toons now, I have multiple toons that hover around a billion that feed my alts with cash, I don't plan builds with PvP IOs, so I don't feel the need to earn billions more. Anybody with significantly more than that is obscenely rich to me.

I don't consider myself a noob, and I learned two things reading this.

    1. I slotted my fire blast power on my latest scrapper with Thunderstrike IOs in the 39-42 range, because they were readily available and because I figured it's a level 44 power, I'm not going to have use of it if I exemplar below level 39. Nearly all my other IOs are slotted in the 30-33 range to take better advantage of exemplar situations. Now I know that I should go back and replace those with 30-33 IOs. ^_^

    2. I have a bid in for a low-level Celerity stealth IO. Now I know I can just buy one at level 50 and not worry about it not working for me. ^_^

Not to be too snarky, but if you'd been in 1 SG the whole time you'd have learned where the teleporters were.

I run my own base, so I usually know where things are. I'm in a few other SGs with various characters, but I can usually figure things out without too much trouble. But I prefer using my own base.

I keep the port to Eden and RWZ in the furthest back room, that's my raid teleporter. That was I won't forget where it is.

Most of the time the situation is somewhere in the middle and the Defender can blast in between buffing and debuffing as required. The point as it regards this thread is that in all of these cases the Defender needs to HAVE his blasts available so that he can use them. Defenders aren't Blasters and shouldn't focus on blasting to the exclusion of all else but conversely they do have blasts and should use them when their other abilities are unneeded or still recharging.

And yeah, thread necromancy is bad m'kay?
QFT. And frankly, once my ice/ice or sonic/sonic blaster has applied buffs, what did you want me to do? Those buffs are good for about two large spawns. Even an empath usually has time to attack a bit, but certain defenders would be standing around doing nothing much of the time if they ignored their attacks.
  18. My 2nd account just got the nemesis staff last week. Joy!

My main account just leapfrogged from 57 month to 69 month vet last week, thanks to their new calculation system. And you know what? I haven't even played a character in that time who was low enough level to benefit from this 60-month thing. And there's a good chance that the next time I do, I might not even remember or realize I can fly at level 6. Especially since I can ninja run before that.

It takes me, what? 4 hours, 8 at most to get to level 14? Maybe 2-3 evenings of play at the worst. A good sewer team will get you to 8 in about an hour, and you can hit 10 by the time you've run a few missions in King's Row and grabbed your raptor pack.

Play a Peacebringer, you can fly at level 1.
  19. I tried to IO my current electric/shield scrapper on a budget. I was going to document how cheaply a really good build softcapped build could be done, and was hoping to manage it for under 300 mil by buying IOs in the 30-33 range and placing bids that might take a few weeks to fill.

After a week or so I gave up on that idea. I still finished my build, and it's probably considerably cheaper than similar builds by other people, but I hardly came in under 300 mil. Although I haven't kept track, I think I've probably spent 3 times that amount.

Now, a smashing/lethal softcap build for invul is going to be cheaper than what I was doing... but yeah, 150 mil would be pretty cheap these days. The Kinetic Combats are going to cost you. But I have an MA/Invul scrapper who's softcapped to smashing/lethal, it's a blast to play her. Just being able to jump into a group of so many council that you're above the aggro cap and some of them stand around looking stupid, and then walk into the kitchen to get a snack knowing you're in no danger... heh. Granted not all enemies are that easy but she's pretty tough in most situations.

    My Second Purple

    Congrats!

I probably shouldn't mention that I had 2 purple drops in one mission two weeks ago and then another the next day. ^_^

Only one was an expensive damage IO, but still, that was a nice weekend. It'll probably be months before I see another, lol.

I may do that still. Right now he's just a level 1 character (well, level 2, I finished running him through the tutorial).

I'd enjoy that better anyway. I have... maybe five tanks, two of them at 50. And while I enjoy playing my one tank especially, I'm not such a big fan of tanks that I need to create one of every flavor. Scrappers, on the other hand... my electric melee/shield scrapper his 48 last night, and will be 50 within 2-4 days, and that will be my 9th level 50 scrapper. I need more!

  24. You'll have to forgive me for putting this in this forum, it seemed appropriate. ^_^

    Good idea? Dumb idea?

I saw a toon named "Front Street Brawler", and this immediately popped into my head. And the name was free on Virtue. Although I could have settled for "Sir Fisticuffs", "Gentleman Fisticuffs" or something like "Frederick Fisticuffs", all of which were also available (I think -- didn't check the Frederick one).

It also seemed like maybe I should have some alliteration with the word Wall, but "Wall Street Warrior" doesn't conjure the same image of a gentlemanly (and rich) BABs-like character.

Powers? Seems like Super Strength is required, so I went tanker. Brute could work too of course. Then probably willpower or invulnerability, but I've done both with tanks before so for the moment I picked shield. I went with the dark energy shield, which doesn't really look like a shield, although something related to money might work.

Or maybe I should wait until July and make him my Kinetics Melee scrapper?

    Thoughts?
  25. I went from... 57 I think, to 69.

Best part of that is an extra character slot. ^_^
