The more teammates in trouble, the greater the discount.
Vigilance ALWAYS had the endurance discount on ally injury/defeats, though more recently an additional 'damage buff when solo or in small teams' was also added to give them a bit more solo oompf in battle. Personally I would've wanted this to monitor whether allies were alive or not for more dynamic damage buff gains when they fall, but it only looks at 'players teamed with' and that's it.
  2. I had a couple of musings about what the next slots might entail for Incarnates, and for some strange reason I can't tell whether I heard this information before in reality or one of my strange deja-vu dreams.

Well, Alpha is the general enhancement ability that drives your powers one level beyond what was originally possible, and the always present incarnate shift at rare seals the deal in that respect. Judgement is a powerful click AoE, Destiny is a powerful Buff for you and your allies. Lore lets you summon figments, pets that you can control. And Interface gives all your attacks proc effects to make said attacks more dangerous.

All in all, the iPowers we can get now have increased ranged, buffing, summoning, attack-boosting and power-boosting abilities. Considering how a lot of powers do those very things. It may seem like there's little else to expand on right?

Well. For Genesis and Hybrid I can see these abilities touching upon the whole cross-AT empowerment angle the iPowers are already doing but powering them up head-on!

I'd consider Genesis to be a single tree based on your own character's archetype, you build up abilities that enhance the core element of your AT's inherent powers or the fixed powerset types of that AT. A Scrapper may get enhanced critical chances against Bosses, EBs and AVs instead of just limited to 10% for Lts+. A Defender could gain more scaling buffs when their team-mates take damage.

Hybrid could be the direct cross-AT iPower which you can choose different branches of and gain the inherent abilities of other ATs to empower your character. A defender could take the Blaster tree to gain the ability to use their early powers while mezzed, or the stacking damage buff when attacking with their secondary. A Tanker could gain the Scrapper's critical ability. A Brute could get a Defender's Vigilance to discount endurance cost when their allies fall.

After writing these things down I'd be pretty bummed out if they turned out completely different. But I think Incarnate (demi-gods) would have the power to ascend their core abilities (AT inherent) to new heights. And be able to inherit the core abilities from other heroes and villains because they aren't limited to one style anymore.

Doubly good in my opinion! Except the times I actually got STUCK in one of the Perez mazes, the special gloom environment effects when you got deep enough into the forest is also something maps should have more often! The deeper you get inside a cave, the darker it becomes, not exactly last mission of Dr. Quaterfield dark, but enough to give the impression you're in pretty damn deep.

Atmosphere is pretty important actually, a some of the map saminess stems from the fact that whether the office is still in use or abandoned, it's just as well-lit as the rest of them. Some abandoned variant office/warehouses and caves need some darkness or field-of-vision reduction. It's the next best thing to do if you don't want to adjust every map to use Ultra mode sun-casting shadows from light sources.
  4. Now that I see this thread, I remember a day or two ago after I managed to participate in my first Hamidon raid (in two and half years since I started!) and afterwards when everybody left, I stuck around and did some exploring, even literally [Walk]ed my way back through Eden to the Gate before warping to Ouro to log out.

I never realised the Hive was it's own zone, I didn't know there was an abandoned factory behind right in the far corner of the hive. I was amazingly amused at the Devouring-Earth ruined hazard zone gate between Eden and the Hive. And when I walked through the Hive-area in Eden I didn't know there was a whole hidden abandoned neighbourhood of buildings and debris that almost looked lived in when it was night-time.

I briefly explored First Ward too when it came out, once again using [Walk] on a highbie to avoid aggro, I looked up the shadow path and walked all through the city with it. There should be more things like this, a grand visual trip you can do to make exploration more fun, even if there's no rewards specifically attached to them.

I agree, there should be more exploration content in this game, a slower take-it-all-in path when missioning becomes too monotonous or frustrating. To actually make you look at the environment, smile, discover hidden details and areas.

As it happens, the forest mazes block people from flying through the tops right? That's an idea for a new tileset, forest maps. It's not quite indoors but it looks outdoorsy and could be retooled for more temperate and tropical themes. Or haunted woods style!
  5. I can confirm that my ATI 11.11 is causing random crashes in loading screens and sometimes just doing something completely innocuous, so glad I found this thread, I'm going to reinstall my drivers to use the recommended versions.

I so can't afford these crashes in the middle of Taskforces and especially not the iTrials I'm going to be running through in the near future.

    gifting CoH?

Just to clarify the 'offer for extra time' aka the Refer-a-friend promotion doesn't offer more VIP time when used anymore. It does however grant the referrer and referee 500pp each so you can get some nice things from the paragon market.

500 RaF + 400 VIP stipend = 900pts to spend, enough for a premium powerset and maybe one or two individual costume pieces.
  7. It's entirely possible that only one version of the power got the bruising effect while the other does not (Because the whole mechanic behind TiWea is that momentum is the flag that switches your powers with faster version, which are unique powers unto themselves).

This might be a bug that needs reporting, as ideally bruising should occur on all versions of the T1 power for it to be any use.
  8. I still believe there is merit in looking into Assault Powersets for other archetype, if people are so worried about defense/defense ATs becoming overpowered with ranged abilities then use the sole fact that Assault contains a MIXTURE of melee and ranged attacks for the win!

The melee attacks could be the one with the most mitigration via secondary effects whilst the ranged ones would be to a lesser extent. It means melee types can't be all-range right away and still go with their strengths. It also means that the ranged types now get to do their cool close-range attacks.

Even if you have to change the ratio of attacks so the melee types get four ranged attacks out of nine, and ranged get four melee attacks per nine. It could be a conceptual boost to many, many ATs.

Trouble is, is it feasible to grant other archetypes the Assault powerset in after so many years of being labeled 'melee' and 'range'?
  9. I kind of wish the Assault powersets were brought out to more ATs. Dominators have them but the unobservant wouldn't notice that the Assault set contains both melee and ranged attacks.

If there were ways to give Assault sets to other ATs and balance them appropriately, you could technically have characters who have pri/sec melee attacks if they're usually ranged. And also ranged attacks if they're normally melee.

Who knows? I'd like to see gun sets with martial-arts gun-fu mixed in with them.
  10. Since my signature hero turned 50 (first 50 in 2.5 years since the start!) I began his journey of the incarnates and self-controlled not to participate in Apex/Tin-Mage TFs until he got his first alpha ability, in just a few regular taskforces I managed to get his first one slotted (Agility Boost) which means I will no longer get debuffed doing those TFs.

But the itrials? If I could only start playing them if I had at least one incarnate shift it might take me waaay longer based on shard drops needed to get the rares. But hey, I've got time, still working on my stat-boost accolades before he's ready for epic battles proper, I can wait

Plus i22's going to have solo incarnate content, so if all fails, Dark Astoria!
  11. I tend to put the Helper title on all my characters and actively help new/free players into the game and teach them good advice. Naturally I do get blanked a few times, even by ones with 'Help me!' over their heads, but the ones who listen and learn are genuinely grateful, especially the returning vets.

You could say I take my title seriously, but when I haven't got any missions and no non-DFB teams are forming, I like to hang out in Atlas as the welcoming committee.

Funnily enough, I've been so helpful sometimes that a number of players asked me if I was a dev, I had to honest but it makes me chuckle every time I hear that.
  12. As much as any forum bugs (which don't seem chronic from my end) around here may, bug, me. If the situation were reversed I would choose servers too.

If City of Heroes had some big server/load problems and Lineage II had some mild forum borkage, I would prefer our servers being fixed first then Lineage II's forums.
  13. Am I the only one who still remembers that VK's post is a transcript and not a word-for-word quotation on things? When I read the costume gender part ports I thought to myself "Alright, females are getting stuff that the males did but they didn't, more jackets and stuff", not "They're going to turn females into menwomen, the end"

Ambiguous wording can make anything sound bad if you're enough of a pessimist. I'm also hoping they take time to port some female pieces to males. Shorts and Sandals are unisex in my opinion and have no idea why they're not allowed on the guys. If I were allowed go to onto CoH right this moment I'd look for more female-only-when-they-shouldn't costume pieces to add to the list.

I'll be happy if they do a costume piece proliferation amongst genders, game-unlocks and then the additional premium sets. And mention of non-pre-tint versions of pieces. Sounds like the next issue will be one to look out for!
  14. I've gotten that once or twice, I think I accidentally accepted once, no immediate consequences though I removed them from my list later.

Second time apparently it was someone I teamed with earlier who switched accounts and wondered why I didn't accept their friendvite, there was no hard feelings but heh, I can't ever be right can I? :P
  15. The VIP Starter pack ONLY works for accounts that have never been subscribed or VIP before. You could create another game account (which isn't the same as your master NCSoft account) but you couldn't apply it to an existing account that has been VIP before.

    Regen vs Max HP

A rule of thumb for both HP and Endurance is that having more Max HP and max END is generally better than just increasing Regen/Recov

At least for endurance, for the same recovery rate it will always go from 0 to full in the same time regardless of your current max endurance. Therefore, if you have a higher amount of endurance, your recovered endurance per second is increased as well as having the benefits of those extra points.

If HP and regen work the same way, you will still regenerate more points per second by having a higher max HP.
  17. Well, apart from the secret identity name change, I simulate this with the costume slot I purchased from Paragon market and a free tailor token. Having two costumes ready at Lv1 means I can have my civilian and super IDs ready as soon as I get to the trainer or Icon/Facemaker.

As for 'recoding everything aka. standard code rant', I don't pretend to know how much work goes into changing aspects of the game and then make snap-judgements on suggestions (or perform a borderline +1 post agreeing with said SCR), but I'd imagine that if you had a civilian name it would have to meet the no-duplicates rule that all character names have to obey per server, and that could be problematic in that your chosen name could be taken by someone else and also perhaps stop someone else from using that name for their own base hero/villain.

It would be nice to be able to emphasise this aspect of superhero/villain culture but it presents naming issues. I think you're better off just putting your character's secret/civilian name in the description and possibly gaining your second costume slot as early as possible.

Additionally, I don't agree much with the power-suppression of civilian IDs, like TJ's Clark Kent example provides. But as for secret identities actually being a real secret, does that really matter that players in the real world would still know who you are? It's mostly dumb critters and NPCs that will pay attention to it, it doesn't invalidate the suggestion entirely.

I suppose when you consider the alpha boost as a power rather than an enhancement that would make sense with time-travel and exemplaring.

But then again, it's more like an auto-power than a clicky or a toggle. I'd consider it more of an accolade than just a mere power you pick.
  19. Might be fun.

But I imagine the reason for that is because it's one of those special effect 'damage numbers', like how Dominators would have 'DOMINATION' show up when they make a successful controlling effect with Domination in effect.

Or Dual-blades when you successfully land a combo.

You could say it's the mini/proto version of the big warning text you see during special boss fights like Protean, Mortimer Kal midnighters and the like. Except by virtue, it's not so much a warning as a "You just got special attacked!"
  20. I'd agree to such a place, I'm guilty of posting looking-for-member messages myself, but they're always well-worded and not spammed repeatedly each spot fills (Seriously, is it too much just to have a Looking-for & Full announcement?)

I'd imagine it would get as much RMT bother as help but eh, that's not going to change soon. It might require a new chat channel, but considering how many little chat-mode buttons we have, it'll be hard to show off the new button to players who don't check patch notes or announcements

I heard a rumour that the devs were thinking of expanding incarnate content/abilities into other pre-50 areas of the game so I thought a little about how the Alpha incarnate ability could work during SSK without going way over the top at low levels.

While it would be cool to get that +1 incarnate shift from rares and beyond, it might disrupt the difficulty of regular story arcs and missions, not to mention making rewards awkward for the player since everybody would be -1 of normal.--yada yada WHO CARES! This guy is spreading rumours! HE MUST BE ELIMINATED! And raising the difficulty would make it harder for the low-level non-incarnates to be effective in their own missions. Might have to keep the incarnate shifts either for +45 content or maybe just for special content like task-forces or other flaggable arcs.

But the actual enhancement portion could be something that works in the low level game by treating it like normal enhancements. SSKs below Lv22 give special diminished values to reflect a smooth curve of TOs, DOs and SOs without favouring any specific level of SSK. So if the Alpha slot enhancements scale down like the rest of your enhancements, you'll be able to play low-level content but still retain that little bit more power than you would without the alpha slot entirely!

    Summary:
Let Alpha boost work any level, incarnate shift only works for Lv45+ as normal, however enhancement values stay on, being diminished at Lv22- as normal enhancements do.

It sounds simple to me, but how does it sound to you? Good, bad, mixed?
So...no comments on just letting Alpha boosts count as diminishable enhancements for low-level play...? No...? Well, I thought it was a reasonable idea.

I must apologise, I should have left the rumour disclaimer out and simply posted it as a suggestion in it's own right, I had no idea people would COMPLETUHLEY ignore the suggestion to show their disdain for rumours, I'll make sure not to even hint an inkling of unconfirmed content in the future.

Reading ParagonWiki's Exemplar Effects on Enhancements, SSKing below Lv45 first caps all enhancement values to 41.5%, so a Very rare Musculature Core Paragon with 45% damage boost would first go down to 41.5%. THEN if they SSK below Lv32 they start have diminishing values all the way down to Lv1 which is 0.022x of normal, which for Musculature Core Paragon would be 0.913%. (Yeah, enhancement SSK diminishing starts later at Lv32, not Lv22, my bad!)

And to me, 0.913% extra damage doesn't really sound game-breaking at Lv1. At Lv10 the damage becomes 10.20%, Lv15 becomes 16.22%, Lv20 becomes 22.94% and so on.

Also thank you Redlynne for your input, Hero_of_Steel for citing the source I should have cited to prove I wasn't pulling stuff out of thin air!

Oh wow! They're going to revamp Assassin's Strike for out-of-hide combat?! Sounds delightfully painful, 33.3% crit chance? that stacks three times? Not sure what this means, is it kind of like a build-up buff that increases critical chances?

Judging from the testing Synapse said he was doing, it sounds like Assassin's Focus might actually be a combination of Street-Justice's combo system and Titan weapons' Momentum flag. You do your normal attacks and it charges up the crit-o-meter, then when it's full you can do Assassin's Strike for 99.9%/100% crit-rate out of hide. Sounds fantastic! That'll bring up their average damage right up!
