  1. Saw that earlier. I don't know if it'll be at all original or even any good but by golly those special effects look pretty dang impressive.

    AR/DEV. Why Not?

    I snipped some out here

Also, since you can skip so much of the secondary, adding Tough and Weave is never out of the question.
Call me crazy, but that's certainly not a very glowing recommendation of devices there. Really that's the big problem with the ar/dev combo, the devices powerset. Assault Rifle's honestly pretty spiffy a set for AoE, but devices has a couple spiffy spiffy and useful powers though even then a lot of them are either situational or just plain debatably useful.

To be perfectly honest, this. As long as you're having fun play whatever you want. (Though I certainly wouldn't say no to a buff for /dev)

Well if there is a way to give a power, be it a toggle or a click, the ability to add a proc effect or apply a crit chance then it might be easier to do than that. 'course who knows if that's any easier to do than reworking the powers.

In reality we'd probably end up just getting a damage buff. I've just always though that the damage sets all having nearly identical versions of build up and aim is kind of boring. I'd love for there to be more 'different' powers like rage, follow up, fiery embrace and targeting drone. I can see why they didn't do that since having a lot of different types of things would be so much harder to balance, but I still kind of wish they did it though.

You know, even though I've seen people who've said they've done it I'm still somewhat dubious about the concept of all-blaster TFs. Every time I think about it I just imagine lots of faceplants.

Now, add in something like one FF or other support character and it seems more doable to me. Actually, a TF with one FF, one kin and the rest blasters sounds absurdly fun to me come to think of it.

It'd have to be very small

I'm not a math person so forgive me if I'm laughably wrong here, but in the long run crits basically end up adding the same general amount of damage as a straight up damage buff yes. It's always seemed like more in line with a targeting drone to do something like let a character get off shots on 'vital' points or something on occasion than just do more damage in general. So crits or added damage instead of damage buffs.

Honestly the added damage thing would probably be better than crits. Less terrifying damage numbers and you could have it fire off more regularly.

    Too many badges?

Never had that happen to me either. Of course I don't have quite nearly as many badges as some folks around here. Only 636.

My game does lock up briefly when I open my own badges tab though.

I honestly love my targeting drone and still use it on my energy/dev in spite of having enough IO bonuses that I probably don't need to. I really wish they would improve both it and the set some though.

Personally I've always thought that it would make sense if the power had some sort of chance for a damage addition component as opposed to a straight up damage buff. Either a small chance to crit or what's probably a 'safer' idea have a chance to add on a bit of extra damage somehow.

Either of these could be quite valuable in the right circumstances. But, yeah, the power's more insurance than a way of life these days.
It has both. I'm not sure how much of both off hand but they're both there. Still, when you get down to it I'd rather have Build Up.

Actually that's not exactly right. I'd rather Targeting Drone be buffed in a way that made it as worth taking as it used to be pre-ED. Of course I really don't see that happening any time soon.

What makes you think that their "100s of missions" for a paid expansion would be procedurally generated instead of individually written/created? It's not like they keep shoveling radio/paper missions at us all the time instead of well crafted story arcs. Not that we get a ton of new arcs every issue, but still, it's usually hand crafted stuff when we get it.

I don't really see why they'd lower the bar for a paid expansion.

I'd echo the earlier energy/devices comment except that in general it's an incredibly 'safe' combination to play. It just suffers from being a rather slow moving set in a fast moving game.

No, they generally release them around the time the first is going to be handed out. I'm only a couple of weeks behind the front of that curve and they've yet to skip a vet reward month like that.

There's thirteen of them. Find 'em all and get a badge.

Somewhat as an aside, and it's possible I'm misreading you here as I'm a little tired, but wasn't Revelations for CO just level 37-40 content? I was thinking it was more like Issue 3 than CoV.

Of course, you could have been meaning zone-size, in which case don't mind me at all.

An AoE buff is inappropriate to the power's theme, while crits from concealment are apparently a coding nightmare to add after the fact.
I recall that at one point, ages ago, I logged on to test and saw that the help text for Cloaking Device indicated extra damage was dealt when coming out of concealment. There was some excitement on the boards until one of the devs (and I believe it was Castle, though I could quite easily be wrong, it was quite a while back) told us not to get excited because it proved to be out of balance in their internal testing and the note had just not been removed and they'd continue to look at how to help out devices get up to par.

I think that was before the new defiance, so I could easily be misremembering that dev comment.

A gorgeous movie that is also smart and odd is The Fall. I don't know if I already recommended it, but if so I'll do it again. Easily one of the most beautiful films of recent years, it occupies the thematic space between The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen and The Stuntman.
I'm going to throw a second behind both of those films. The Fall was excellent and The Informant was just entertaining.

To go in a slightly different direction I'd like to suggest Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa. It's subtitled, black and white, and very solidly in the 'classics' category (as honestly I feel many Kurosawa films are). It's a film based off of an old Japanese folk-tale and involves several people recounting the events of a crime from their perspective while taking shelter from a storm. As is often the case with Kurosawa's films Rashomon is just beautifully filmed, what he manages to do with shadows is amazing, and I've always found the differing perspective type of story to be fascinating.

Honestly, several of Kurosawa's 'best' films are available for streaming on Netflix at the moment and I'd honestly recommend any of them.
  17. Just throwing this out there before I head to bed.

Frailty: It's told in flashback mostly explaining how the narrator's father one day believes he's visited by an angel telling him that he's been chosen to hunt down demons on earth in human form. Of course the father then tries to get his two sons to help. The narrator's telling the story to explain how his brother is now a serial-killer.

It's a good thriller with some great performances, though it is sort of religious which is a sensitive issue for some.

Of course I've never really had that much of a problem with the PvE on my energy/dev either so that's a factor I suppose.

Yea, that kind of confused me too. I mean, yes we do still get new players and there are a couple microtransaction-ish things you can buy for CoH but I have a hard time seeing that as two-thirds of quarterly income.

I don't know. I would hope that given how big a draw character creation is in CoH/CoV they would create games that would allow for that sort of customization. Just create stores where your character is addressed by a title instead of their proper name like they tend to do nowadays.

Alternately it would be interesting to see them tell stories with set heroes from the past, but not from the viewpoint of the 'signature' heroes of the setting.

Overall though, regardless of the story they present, a bad game is still a bad game. If the gameplay is frustrating and/or poor you could have a great storyline and I'm still going to be put off and warn people away from playing it. That said, I tend to like most any genre to some extent or another, so as long as whatever they might possibly present to us is a quality game I'd very likely enjoy myself.
