Here is a fire/rad guide which someone from our SG put together and you might find useful.
-
For PvE 2 travel powers is overkill, but for PvP it's almost a must (although in that case Hurdle would be more useful than Health). In this build, TP would serve as an escape button in PvP really.
And the reason why he's going for the Presence pool is to get the 2 fear powers (not for the taunt). I'm not sure I would bother, but that's a different story. -
I agree with X_treme. When levelling, Fire is nice because you get the AoE at 41. But once you hit 47, Psi Tornado does more damage (which is less often resisted) and the shield gives you some nice psi resistance.
-
What Blue_Note said. I've kept Stamina with my /kin troller given that I run Hot Feet + Tactics + Epic shield and am spamming powers like there's no tomorrow (with Hasten too). At one point I did consider trying without it and taking Consume from the Fire Epic to make up for it, but that would mean I would spend a fair share of my clicks trying to recover endurance
. And on my non-kin trollers, Stamina is there too.
-
I'm guessing that this is mainly a PvE build given the slotting and the fact that you're keeping both Flash and EM Pulse (both skippable in PvP), right? I think that you might be spreading out your enhances a bit too much and not maximising the potential of a few "key" powers. Some suggestions below:
- Spectral Wounds: your main attack for a while, so slot 2 acc 3 dmg (a recharge if possible)
- Blind: your main hold for a while, so slot 2 acc 2 hold 2 recharge.
- Sup Invis: the DefBuf is not really worth it, so slot 2-3 endred instead.
- If this is a levelling build, I would take Enervating Field sometime in the 20s. And Accel Metabolism much earlier (also try to slot 3 EndMod in AM too if possible).
- PA: make sure you have 3 recharges in it, then 0-1 acc and 2-3 dmg.
- Lingering Rad: I would swap the EndRed for a Rechg.
- Spectral Terror: 2 Fears are nice, but really mainly needed for PvP.
- Choking Cloud: I ended up dropping this since it's a major end hog and a bit unreliable for my liking. Try it and see.
- Phantasm only needs acc (1-2) and dmg (3).
- Deceive: if you want to take it, do it much earlier. It helps a lot in the 20s when you start facing (de)buffing mobs. 1 acc is enough for PvE since it doesn't draw aggro. I wouldn't bother with an endred.
- Health: I will keep arguing that Health on a squishy is a bit meh (especially if you have a heal) and certainly not worth 3 slots.
Hope some of this helps! -

Well, I spent the evening with Beki Bondage, and I loved it.
Cheers for the team Beki. Not to mention Seeing Red, Melon Baller, and the host of others that popped in and out of the team. Half way to 40, can't wait!
[/ QUOTE ]
Great fun too. Even if those nasty carnies hiding behind the door wiped us out a couple of times despite Ma'aT's valiant attempts at tanking -

I'd recommend slotting Irradiate with Def-debuff. it's the strongest debuff in the game
[/ QUOTE ]
What? Strongest debuff in rad blast? Maybe. In the game? Nope. I can think of quite a few better ones... -
Super gratz to a great guy! Well done Mel and sorry I missed it (looks like I logged just as you went on
). Late night ramblings ftw!!!111!!!
-
What I really want to know is when are you getting those last bars Mel???
-
Sure, why not...
Character name: ChangoMonster
Global Handle: @Okton
Archetype: Blaster
Powersets: Ice/Ice
although if I can get those 3 levels on Grav in time, I could volunteer a gravity/sonic troller -
I guess rad, dark, TA and storm are less team-dependent than the others.
-
I'm a bit confused about this discussion: by definition a /kin has to be in melee right??? Transfusion, Transference and Fulcrum anyone?
-
Well, I'm currently playing a /sonic controller (35 atm), but I'm assuming the numbers are pretty close for corruptors, so here are some comments regarding your secondary:
- update your planner since Clarity and Sonic Dispersion have been swapped, so you can now take Sonic Dispersion at 20 (and Clarity at 35) and you will definitely need a 2nd endred on it;
- Disruption Field is a great power to put on a melee toon (scrapper/tank in CoH, brute in CoV) but will need 3 endreds;
- Sonic Siphon is a nice -res power, but mainly to be used on bosses/AVs, so I don't think you need that many slots (prob 2 acc 2 recharge is enough);
- If you are on large teams and plan to keep everyone bubbled, you should put an endred on each shield.
- I'd be careful with adding more toggles: even with Stamina you will be hurting on endurance.
So /sonic is a nice set, and definitely a team-oriented one, but the stacking -res of both sets should do some nice damage. Hope some of this helps -

so you dont need either tanks nor empaths to team with you?
would love to see you handle an av or a gm without either“of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. Besides Hami, 2 trollers are usually enough to take on almost anything in this game (and preferably /kin and /rad). 3 of them make things a lot quicker (2 of which illusion are handy so you have perma decoys). And an 8-man troller team? Hehe, gotta see it to believe it.
-
I'd say Ice (for the extra control), Fire (for the AoEs) or Sonic (an early strong short-range attack and the sleep/disorients which could work well with the /kin powers). I'm pretty sure you don't want too much knockback when you're trying to use Transfusion/Transference/Fulcrum.
-
Grav/sonic here and just reached 35. I am quite enjoying the combination, but it's definitely a team-build and not for the impatient. I still have to explain on most teams what Disruption Field does (works great on tanks or scrappers) and I doubt that many notice when I use Sonic Siphon. Clarity is a fast activating Clear Mind and I will also try Liquefy, even if I decide to drop it later. Haven't tried the Repulsion one, since it seems like a less than useful thing to waste endurance on. The shields are quite good, and I think squishies do feel the difference when they have them. I did take Sonic Cage in the low levels, but it's really only useful when you solo or for PvP, so I dropped it later. So, it certainly won't get me as many invites as /rad or /kin, but it's a nice set to play
.
PS oh, and I'm almost sure the figure for the shields is 16% unslotted (so around 25% with 3 SOs), but I might be wrong. -
I just started a fire/dark corruptor (level 14 atm) and really like the combination of AoE attacks and damage mitigation (Tar Patch + Rain of Fire ftw!!!111!!!). At the same time, I'm also testing an ice/cold which does great single target damage and has nice synergies between the sets with the massive slows.

Hi Doc,
Shout on Coalition chat and I'd be glad to exemp and help out if I'm on. Never hurts to have a troller or two when fighting AVs.
[ QUOTE ]
AV's need a team of varied archetypes to take them down
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, this isn't exactly true, although some combinations work better than others: our record with the Overlords for Shadowhunter was 1:07 minutes with a team of 7 trollers. Oh, and that's outside of the water too.

And if you don't want Dreamwave, then Anjos would like in instead
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually we would probably prefer Dreamwave as I assume you play him/her more. Since the SG is practically full, we have started moving some of our 50s to the "1AT Hall of Fame" SG. -
Hmmm... well I'd say that if after 36 levels you are not enjoying your toon, you should probably consider something else. I'm not sure where to start to explain why a controller is useful for a team, especially in the mid/late game. Sometimes for me the question is "why do we need a tank?"
. Of course each AT will bring something to a team and your "role" is to make sure your team takes less damage (and does more). Well with Epics, you can do some nice damage yourself, but that's a different story. You're not really a substitute for a tank (and vice-versa). But what is it exactly that you don't seem to enjoy? Gravity is a somewhat tricky set to play since you don't have many "hard" controls early on. And FF is really a secondary for teaming, but I think it really boils down to what you enjoy playing, so maybe it's just not a controller
-
Hi there. As Cap said, we are always on the brink of being full, but should be able to get you in. I'll look for you in-game or just poke me @Okton. Others who can invite are @Jiaozy, @Inspector Frost and Ma'aT. Here's the correct link for our new boards.

cool, i'll make mk II today..
btw okt, lil tip, dont slot ice shield with dmg res, it only offers res to cold/fire dmg (15%), while it gives defense to smash/lethal (16.8%)..

Duh.. you're right of course! Silly icons look the same -
Stage,
As I mentioned last night, I would also suggest a few changes based on my experience with ice blasting (no idea about /cold, but have just rolled an ice/cold for fun to try it out)

I would like to squeeze Ice Bolt in there, but not sure what I'd drop tbh (maybe Frost Breath?). I agree with Addiction about Bitter Freeze Ray. Limited use in PvE imho, and really not much at all in PvP (almost 4 secs animation time!). Concerning Ice Storm, I had this slotted with slows and not dmg, but things might be different on corruptors, dunno really. If it doesn't work well with dmg, I might move some of these slots elsewhere (range in Frost Breath for a nice cone attack, extra slot in Infrigidate?). I had also dropped Blizz after ED on my blaster, but with I7 I might respec back in (you do need Ice Storm to make it work properly, and with the /cold powers, it should rock again!). Hope some of this helps and enjoy! -

Illusion doesn't have AOE Containment inducing powers
[/ QUOTE ]
Well there's still Flash, right?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep but its PBAOE, slow to recharge and really its not worth it compared to the other sets and their immobilse / sleep AOEs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Definitely Illusion's weak point, but some AoE containment is better than none. Not a big fan of Choking Cloud myself, but EM Pulse is certainly another good reason to go /rad.
