I agree with Cognito, /sonic is a fine set for controllers as long as you're not wanting to solo too much. The figures are 80% of defender values, just like all other sets, so not that low. Scrappers will love you with Disruption Field and the shields offer some nice damage resistance (and mez protection for the PbAoE). The only thing I disagree with is that Disruption Field won't work very well with Singularity since it has an inherent repel, but on Fire Imps or any melee team-mates, it's great. Clarity activates about twice as fast as Clear Mind. I only just took Liquefy and haven't slotted it yet, so I'm not sure about that one, but otherwise I find it is a nice set for teaming in both PvE and PvP.

You people saying you need to put slows in LR are nuts. That power has a really silly long recharge, so it needs 2 acc (or 3), 3 recharge redux. It's a very powerful slow right out of the box, it doesn't need extra but if you find you have spare slots it can't hurt to put a slow in.
[/ QUOTE ]
Irradiator is right, and in fact, the slow enhancement only affects movement speed (not recharge or regen), so not really worth using more than 1 slow imho. -
Some quick comments from the Grav side, although I must confess I haven't PvPed much with my grav troller:
- Propel might be a bit slow for PvP, as Cherry said, Crush is a better choice (and useful for dropping flyers);
- Fly is not be best travel power for PvP. If you want Hasten anyway, go for SS and consider the leaping pool (or as Mesmer said, Hurdle instead of Health) .
- I wouldn't bother with the Fighting pool;
- No need for that many recharges in Singularity (unless you plan to use it as a tank). Also, it can't be healed (so don't bother to take Heal Other if it's for that purpose). I find a mix of holds/dmg best.
- Gravity Distorsion actually does some decent damage, so you might also combine holds/dmg (with acc of course)
Hope some of this helps! -
Sonic cage is indeed a nice power, and quite helpful for soloing in the lower levels (as well as being possibly THE most annoying power in PvP), but I found that it's very hard to use effectively in teams. Also, Gravity has Dimension Shift which is a group phase power, so you probably don't need both.

If you didn't turn up and don't plan on turning up for the rest of the fights, please let me know so that I can inform the guys subbing for you that they've taken your place. If you substituted this week, try and turn up next week as you'll no doubt be needed then as well.

I'm actually back now, but think it's only fair that Kron keep my spot. Will try to turn up anyway in case any team needs a sub. -

Horses for courses. My major issue with /kin and /rad is that, although they certainly buff your damage up (although sonic siphon is pretty good for that too), there is no mez protection. Getting mezzed can be the one ouchy time of a soloing 'troller, as hit points are so low. Id guess /kin and /rad would be faster kills but higher risk?
[/ QUOTE ]
I still think /rad is the safest set with all the debuffs and the fact that you have a heal (which can't miss). I wouldn't choose sonic mainly because of the mez protection of Sonic Dispersion (I still get mezzed sometimes). If you're really worried about it, go for Acrobatics and/or carry BFs. And although Sonic Siphon is a nice debuff, Enervating Field is a much better one. I agree with Everclear, if you want something different and uber-controllery, why not try TA? -
[ QUOTE ]
You think? I find soloing with my Grav/Sonic spectacularly easy at level 28
[/ QUOTE ]
Not saying it's not possible, just saying it would probably be easier with /rad or /kin. Lots of great /sonic powers which need team-mates, that's all.

Welcome to Union and to CoH. Have fun!

My point is not to sell Grav/Sonic, but go with concept.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nothing wrong with grav/sonic really... but probably not the best if you plan to solo a lot. -
As others have said, Grav is not the easiest set for soloing because your damage is really not great (Illusion is much easier because of PA, and Mind or Fire because of the damage). If you do want to solo, /rad helps a lot, and /kin is also an obvious choice because of the endurance recovery and Fulcrum which allows you to do lots of damage once you get your Epics.

Okton PM'd me and asked if i would take his place as he's not going to be able to make Thursday. I said yes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks dude. Really sorry I'm gonna miss this, but best of luck to you and your 2 teams!
I see some damn fine matches there!!!

Fighting against or teaming with an Ice/Ice blaster though will be fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well you may or may not be playing against/with that ice/ice blaster (although I was also toying with the idea of using my /sonic troller) since I will be travelling back home on Thursday, so can't really make it that evening
. I mentioned this to Cap and am not sure whether rescheduling is really possible since it involves quite a few people for those 2 matches (I can do Friday though):
Stela (@Mini-Nukette)
Bigboy3387 (@Bigboy3387)
Knight Stalker (@Knight Stalker)
J Dogg (@J Dogg)
Irradiator (@Irradiator)
Spyka (@Stalk-obot)
Zak- (@Zak)
Double Control (@Double)
Otherwise I can offer my slot to someone if they're willing to join??? -

I'm currently being told over a /t that fireball sucks.. I'd just like to ask, what's the radius of it? And what other pros are there apart from it being 6 levels earlier?
[/ QUOTE ]
Fireball sucks? Maybe on a level 2 blaster it does... Once you've slotted it properly (2 acc 3 dmg 1 rchg) with containment and Fulcrum, you can 2-shot large groups. I would suggest to take it at 41 then you can always respec into Psi at 47 if you feel like it. And although psi damage is less resisted overall, it's true that in the 40s, you do face quite a few mobs for which fire damage works better (e.g. carnies, robots). -
Psi Tornado does more damage which is also less often resisted (and knockup), but you can get Fireball 6 levels earlier. For numbers, check a Hero Planner, or here's a quote from the US boards
[ QUOTE ]
Many people say Fireball is the most powerful AoE available to controllers but through my testing I've found Psionic tornado to be more powerful because it's damage spreads out over the course of an AoE. Psionic Tornado with 3 damage SOs(+2) does contained damage to a white minion of 203 after the DoTs and fireball with 3 damage SOs (+2) does 186.

Isn't the AoE immob in grav one that has no kb res? Hense would be awesome with freezing rain as it wouldn't ruin the knockdown.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's correct. It doesn't have the pesky -knockdown component that others do.

My grav troller is 38 now, so here are some suggestions based on what I've experienced so far:
- You do seem a bit paranoid about accuracy. For PvE, 2 accuracies are definitely needed for the AoE hold, and good for the single-target hold and attacks, but 3 seems like overkill. You also want some recharges since you want to be able to stack holds (for ex. I slot GD and GDF 2 acc 2 hold 2 rechg).
- Likewise for Wormhole, 2 acc should be enough. And yes, it is AoE, but you have to get fairly close to the mobs to fire it off (so a stealth-type power might come in handy).
- Singularity is usually slotted either for dmg or holds (recharges if you want to tank with it a lot). I went 2 acc 3 dmg 1 hold in the early 30s (since your damage won't be great if you plan to solo a lot), but have now swapped 2 dmgs for 2 extra holds.
- In the low levels, if you solo, you can slot GD (Crush) for damage and then switch to holds (immob).
- Dimension shift is highly skippable. Barely used it at all, and I don't think it ever saved my team from a wipe-out tbh. You have a lot of better control options anyway.
- If you feel you're missing some powers, you might consider dropping one of the immobs (Crush or Crushing Field). It's really a personal choice here since both have (dis)advantages. Crush has a higher magnitude (works well with bosses/AVs), but CF gives you AoE containment which is handy.
It sounds like a nice combo since many grav powers have slows as secondary effects which should go well with /Storm (and Ice Epic if you want to go that way). Hope some of this helps! -

So I just thought I'd say hi and see if there was any advice anyone would like to offer for yet another pvp stalker

Hi! Oh, and watch out for my blaster when you get to Siren's -
As MaX said, 1AT SGs work fine in CoH (at least on Union) and are almost all full, except for khelds. They are all in a Coalition, so it's easy to get balanced teams anyway. We also have a "50s" SG if people want to move their lesser-played 50s there. Base raids are the one area in which things don't work so well. I've only been in one with my blaster, and it really don't go well at all - must try it with our troller SG sometime... We're thinking of trying something similar in CoV but we're just not sure if there's enough interest yet (maybe with I7?).
-
Speaking from a controller PvE perspective, I do find Wormhole quite useful for locational pulls and for thinning down a mob if the team is getting overwhelmed. My slotting is 2 acc 3 disorient and I might add a recharge later. I haven't tested whether a range enhance is worth it at all, but I doubt it.
For my Sing, I slot 1 acc 3 dmg 2 hold, since I really need some help with damage if I'm soloing, but I guess later on, I'll probably swap a dmg for a 3rd hold. I would only put recharges if you use your Sing for tanking really. -

Greetings to Max and Co. and thanks to the 2 players from E.V.I.L. (can't remember the names atm
) who kindly teamed up with my lowbie fire/dark corruptor Red Eclipse last night. To make up for smashing some of your members in Siren's, any chance I could get a VG invite for a new sonic/kin corruptor I just rolled?
