"Disorientate, Immobilize & Holds, ... are the bread and butter of Controllers" - all those powers are common place to controlling your enemy and are key to that. However, there are many mobs that are immune to the various effects of those elements.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have no idea what you are referring to. As pointed above, many more foes are resistant to fear/confuse than to holds/disorients.
[ QUOTE ]
When controlling, the point is to stop mobs from attacking your allies. Since Fear only generates an attack when you attack them first, it fulfills this criteria (AOEs notwithstanding).
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless you are soloing, the mobs will probably be attacked (and hopefully arrested) very quickly. Which is why "soft" control helps, but is nowhere nearly as effective as "hard" control.
[ QUOTE ]
This basically boils down to the difference between a hold (which has a general greater per centage of being defended against) and a controlling status effect (which, while not quite as good, fulfills the same role and has a better chance of being effective)}.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, with proper slotting, your holds/disorients/immobs will not be missing, so I can't see how they are inferior (even in PvP).
[ QUOTE ]
Do you see what I'm driving at? Fear/Confuse is more reliable as far as AFFECTING a mob and is therefore more reliable at controlling. While it isn't as effective as a containment, it still controls.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same comment.
[ QUOTE ]
So I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just using a different measurement (i.e. controlling versus containing).
[/ QUOTE ]
It is not about controlling vs. containment, since containment is an inherent (pardon the pun) part of controlling.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Forget Disorientate, Immobilize & Holds, as much as they are the bread and butter of Controllers, only Fear & Confusion are 99% reliable.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure what you mean by this. So are Illusion and Mind the only reliable controller sets??? Post I5, controlling has A LOT to do with containment (which isn't triggered by fear or confusion). With proper slotting, your holds, disorients and immobs should be equally reliable (although I agree Mass Confusion is an awesome power). -
Lift has the handy knockup but Crush does a bit more damage (although it's DoT) and has a small accuracy bonus (as well as -Fly, which you already get elsewhere being /TA).
-
[ QUOTE ]
I think if you use an AoE immob with a knockdown power like Oil Slick the knockdown doesn't happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except for Gravity's AoE immob(and Tenebrous Tentacles iirc)
-
[ QUOTE ]
The difference is you can combine the AoE hold and Ice Slick for maximum effect, but cant combine AoE immob with it (unless Ice is the one which doesnt affect it) as it'll disrupt the KU for 10 seconds.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well sort of... if they are held, they won't be subject to KD. And from the troller sets, it's the grav AoE immob which doesn't interfere with KD -
[ QUOTE ]
In Grav I'm thinking :
Lift, Grav Distort, Propel, Crush Field, Grav Dist Field, Wormhole & Sing
[/ QUOTE ]
When levelling, I used Lift and Propel (despite it's horrible animation time) as an attack chain (after GD), but then swapped Lift (which does have handy knockup) for Crush (for containment purposes on bosses/AVs). At higher levels (post Epics), since I don't (can't) really solo much, Propel can easily be dropped. I also took Crushing Field to use with Wormhole, just keep in mind the well-known risks of using AoE immobs at low levels. -

I just took a look at the SG member list and we are down to 6 members. Looks like one of the Fire/Rads left (I can't remember his name) So we are gonna need more people to join.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually it was me since I decided to re-roll Oktogenarian, but will be looking for an SG re-invite soon -
Get the exploration badges for those zones while in SG mode

One problem Pious, with getting Stamina, if you're a "hands on" MM; you'd have to pick two of Sprint, Hurdle and Health.
I don't see any real situation where Sprint and Hurdle would be preferable.
[/ QUOTE ]
PvP is an obvious case in which these 2 are preferable. And even for PvE, remember that for squishies the +regen gain is minimal: during a 20 second fight, you go from regaining 8% of your health, to 14% (and that's with 3 SOs). It's simply much more effective to use a heal if you have one (since the OP is /Dark). -

Dispersion field causes no aggro. Repulsion field and force bubble do.
[/ QUOTE ]
As well as Disruption Field if you team with a sonic defender/controller.
[/ QUOTE ]Well, yes, and loads of other powers as well, but this was about FF
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes MaX, I can read. But I was wondering whether he might have mixed them up given that DF is often anchored on tanks. And if you want to be really pedantic, it's Dispersion Bubble -

I does work, but I don't really think it's worth it. In PvE they will aggro everything within seconds anyway and in PvP, people will know you're a fire troller even before seeing the imps. But I guess it might help with your team-mates, that's about it really.
-
For (finally!) getting that (I3?) spines/regen to 50 . Well done!
-
Unthing, I would go for 2 acc 2 fear 2 rchg. In any case, 6-slot and play around with enhances .

[ QUOTE ]
I tend to keep him unsummoned. I got *all* illusion powers and the way I play is like, I stealth to the next mob just before the team is done with the current mob and do Decieve boss > Decieve boss > Decieve lt. > Team arrives and starts killing > Decieve boss > Decieve lt. > Decieve boss etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's cause you have a lousy secondary Pious . With ill/rad it's just deceive, debuff, hold and destroy -
Also playing a Thugs/Dark (29 atm) and as Pious said, I think the Leadership buffs from your henches are good enough, especially if you team with other Thugs. And there are just too many good Dark powers to take even if you skip the pistol attacks.

Naaah, Archy... Trollers suck, that's why I would never ever play one

Yeah, and they are under-powered and need some love, right gang? -
Here's the planned build to 40 for my Thugs/Dark MM who's currently 28. As you'll see I went for Stamina because I hate running out of endurance, even if I don't plan to take the Leadership pool. Super Speed is nice to use with Shadow Fall and Hasten is always helpful, even if I don't really play a blastermind. I would have liked to take HT earlier, but not sure what I would have left out.

Don't you always have a 5% chance to miss or hit with an attack on any mob of any level?
So even an auto-hit power is going to miss 1 in 20 mobs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. That's why it's called auto-hit, as opposed to those which require a to-hit check and which indeed have a 5% chance of missing no matter what. -

Dispersion field affect you as well as your allies if I remember correctly.
[/ QUOTE ]Yup, it does, just like every other PBAoE buff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, although the radius is not very wide. -
[ QUOTE ]
I see Psygon thanks for the tipHowever i will persevere in my ways, cause seriously, having a -def debuff of 110 percent is just very cool
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not a 110% -def debuff. It's a 110% improvement of whatever the base -def debuff is. And honestly, there's no point in slotting more than 3 enhancements of anything. -
[ QUOTE ]
Nice to see Babbage taken down in Skyway - does it seem to you lot that the GM's are more active recently? I sense a disturbance in the force, young ones!
Sad it always needs a Rad type to do 'em in too........
[/ QUOTE ]
Although as we saw last night on that awesome Anti-Matter mission (or was it Neuron?), you don't need one for AVs, right?

To say Fire/kin is so popular asnd sooooooo good i cant seem to find any guides out there, on them specificley.
Anyone know if there are any out there??
[/ QUOTE ]
A good fire control guide here. -
[ QUOTE ]
Would agree that Hot Feet isn't essential in the latter lvls of your fire controller.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not essential, but certainly helpful, especially since you will have Fulcrum by then. I read on a US post (clicky) that (according to HeroStats) a fire/kin was still getting around 40% of his DPS from Hot Feet in the late game (not counting Imps). Haven't checked it myself, but if it's true, HF is more than helpful I would say.
