Thanks to all those who teamed with me along the way, particularly the other Union Overlords and all the 1AT folk. And Mesmer, my next troller (ice/storm) is 16 and given how he burns through endurance, I just hope yours is a kin.

The figures for the individual shields are actually 25% when fully slotted. They would only get the additional +res (and it's something like 15% iirc) if they are within your Sonic Dispersion. I agree it's a very nice power, but the radius is rather small, so the squishies have to stay quite close to you for it to work. And there's a lot of psi damage flying around in the 40s (I know, it's the same problem for most shields).

But come on, 12% -res from Disruption Field given the end cost? That's really a bit low for my taste. Think about Fulcrum! I know it can stack with Sonic Siphon, but you would probably need to have 2 or more sonics on the team to notice some real difference (wanna team sometime?).

Yes, if things go wrong, Sonic has little to cope, but that's because that's not it's nature. The shields and debuffs ensure that the team is harder to kill and are killing things quicker, meaning there's much less chance of things going wrong in the first place.

That too. But I'm afraid at the moment they do tend to look shinier, even more so in the late game (*grumbles off to get those last 14 bars and move on to his ice/storm*). -
Having seen one in action a few times recently, I would think Mind/TA (if you don't mind not having a pet) could also be a nice combo for soloing, with strong early single-target attacks and plenty of control / damage mitigation tools.

What I did with my Fire/Kin was to take AS as an additional attack in the early game and use Fly as travel power until I respecced into IR at 28. The single-target immob (Ring of Fire) can also be taken and slotted for damage at low levels, but if you already have Fire Cages (which I slot 2 acc 1 EndRdx) Char (you should switch the dmg enhances to holds later on), and Hot Feet, I wouldn't bother tbh.

What's wrong with Sonic Resonance? Got me a lvl 47 Ice/Sonic and she fairly rocks.
If you meant */Sonic is poor for solo'ing, well, yes, you're probably right. It is definitely of much better use in teams.

I know, I've seen your troller MBar, and you just said it yourself, she "fairly" rocks. It's certainly a team-based set and hopeless for soloing but after playing both /rad and /kin to 50 on controllers, I can say it's just not on the same level as those 2 (but hey! I like a good challenge
). First of all you have to be into bubbling, and although the +res shields are nice, the numbers are too low for controllers to make that much of a difference in most cases. Sonic Siphon and Disruption Field are OK, but of course can't be enhanced. Clarity is a great power but comes almost 20 levels later than an /empathy's CM. And Liquefy? I respecced out after 2 levels given how unreliable the hold/kdown was, and the -def -acc hardly noticeable. For defenders I think it's quite a good set and for PvP it has some handy tricks like Sonic Cage, but you just won't be "turning the tide" of a battle with it as a controller. There's a reason why you see so few sonics at high level, right? YMMV of course

I would agree with others, for soloing, stick to /rad /kin and maybe /storm (haven't played /TA much). Gravity is a nice set which tries to balance control and damage. So for example it has less hard control than say Earth or Ice, and less damage than Fire or Illusion (which might make for easier soloing). -

Do they need to be another Kin necessarily? Doesn't Siphon speed increase your own recovery speed much in the same way that adrenaline boost does? (I'm only asking because I have a Fire / Kin at lvl 8, and Siphon Speed will be my level 10 choice)

No: it only increases your recharge and movement speed (and decreases those of your foes). -

Fire/kin is certainly an edurance hog and you just need to carry along lots of blues until you get to 35. I would recommend slotting 3 EndRdx in Hot Feet (for now) and one in Fire Cages (which btw you probably don't need to be using "repeatedly"). Stamina will help quite a bit in the 20s once it's fully sloted with SOs, but I wouldn't bother with EndRdx in Flashfire or Char. Unless you plan to mainly solo, you should hopefully be starting to team with people who have some endurance recovery powers (e.g. SB, RA, AM), so this should help a bit too.

So Domination is in fact a second hold of equal mag (3 in PvE, 4 in PvP) but longer duration stacking onto the first one. -

AoE damage? Certainly. Which is why you probably do want FB which does decent damage when fully slotted. As Chill says, you should at least consider Ice Sword since you will be in melee quite often.

You play a ranged-only ice/ice blaster? What a shame! With Ice Patch, Chilling Embrace, Shiver, and Freezing Touch, you will be quite safe, and Ice Sword does almost as much damage as Bitter Ice Blast. Try it sometime.

Not sure what you're referring to: Bitter Ice Blast does have a shorter range than some other attacks, but not Ice Bolt or Ice Blast. Depends on what you're comparing it to.

You do sacrifice some AoE damage (and a snipe, which is not a great loss imho) for lots of control, but that extra control helps your survivability (which is why ice/ice works nicely if you tend to solo a bit, and I'm surprised you have problems soloing), so it does depend on your playstyle . -

I would recommend it for Fire trollers who are /kin (you have to be in melee anyway, and it works nicely with Fulcrum) or /rad (since you can usually handle the aggro). Not sure it's worth it for other secondaries though.

In addition to what MaX said,
- I wouldn't bother with Health (and certainly not 3 slots!) given that you have a self-heal.
- EndRdx on Bruiser? Nah.
- I understand that for MMs Dark Servant is not perma, so you might want to consider recharges.
- Dual Wield at 49??? Is this just for taking screenies? -
Nemesis have Vengeance which helps against holds, but also against confuse. Never noticed anything special with Carnies or BP since they don't have any bubbles or buffs which might provide some resistance against holds afaik.
