They can write off a massive loss of profit to make the quarter's numbers look better, and appearance is all that stockholders care about.

If it makes grouping with friends, no matter the level (or Mot forbid, gear) difference as easy as CoH, it'll have my support.
For game enforced level and gear segregation I've got WoW. If it's another "WoW-killer" (with all the irony of those always being exactly like WoW and being killed by WoW in short order), it won't get much support from me.
Quote:With the exception of location based powers (or targeting specific things like certain types of corpses), I could play CoH quite comfortably on a Logitech dual stick gamepad.Put it on a console too I'm tired of playing games on mouse and keyboard not nearly as comfy as sitting back on a couch with a 40 inch or whatever TV size you got. Also give it an offline version so you know when the servers shut down we can still keep playing.
So I suppose that brings up keeping the controls to a sane number of buttons. Having 255 abilities on your screen (before you count all the combinations of ctrl, alt, and shift) may make the l33t gamers happy but computer games have moved on from just the l33t gamer crowd. -
Quote:Greed is the new good and the concept of "enough" is heresy. They are not satisfied with profit, they must make a "certain" level of profit or be shut down without any concern over the community built around the revenue stream.
Yay for immortal and amoral piles of money that only have one purpose! -
I'd say the one hope of "Una salas victis..." has now been fulfilled.
Time to cry havoc and go all Vanguard on them. -
They're on that list for me as well as the "actively discourage others from purchasing NCSoft products" list.

Thread-based Incarnate "content".
If running something every once-in-awhile is fun running something each and every day over and over for a few months must be super duper fun, right? *twitch* -
Considering the poor support from Transgaming for CoH, from that alone I couldn't recommend GW2 for the Mac unless it was as an absolute last resort.
Buying a copy of Windows for Bootcamp might be cheaper than the thermal stress of a sloppy Cider wrapper. (I actually had the power drain happen on my old MBP while AFK in Atlas, noticed my magsafe light was orange and my battery was at 75%. So I'm not saying Transgaming is a kiss of death but it is a kiss of we-don't-care-much-for-this-game.) -
Quote:I went over there to check it out. Wow. They learned nothing from their "attempt" with CoH....
Two hours later, over sixty threads detailing the exact issues I listed popped up. I hope they choke on my "I told you so."
Draining power from the battery while plugged in included. Power (Watts) Leak thread. -
Is Transgaming hate acceptable? GW2 for Mac is using their wonderful wrapper.
Considering what CoH did to my Macs when running through Cider the only thing I can think of something like GW2 doing would be akin to a nuclear meltdown. -
<snark>You said you played on Freedom? Well, there's your problem.</snark> When there's more farm selling spam than any other chatter, your server has issues.
As far as being dated, no other mmo has super sidekicking for ease of teaming with anyone or a gear system that ranges from store bought gear (that's actually functional) to sets that turn you into a tank mage. With the exception of the ill-conceived Incarnate content there's nothing you have to grind, which is unlike basically everything else out there. -
Did a couple of BAFs, a Lambda, said "blech", and never touched an iTrial again. I was giving DA a second earnest try when the game was killed and all will to grind the same stuff daily dissipated.
Raiding could be happily ignored in CoH. -
In this gear, grind, and raiding with 80* of your closest friends world, yes.
CoH was a lone light in the MMO wastelands.
*minimum required, attendance must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance, missing a raid will only be allowed when the raid leader is presented a valid death certificate for you, deaths of immediately family or friends do not count. -
Good thing I've already sworn off non-CoH NCSoft products. If the GW2 wrapper is anything like the CoH one I wouldn't need to buy any fuel oil this winter, at least until my computer melted.

Shuttering a still (apparently) profitable mmo to make way for a new one (that is not a upgrade or sequel to the shuttered mmo) should instill gobs of confidence in their intended audience that the new one might be around for not just weeks but maybe months!

Note the "and". It's important.
If I'm doing a task force, I'm not sitting around chatting.
If I'm sitting around chatting, I'm not doing a task force.
Haven't had it happen here but more than once the (random) tank and (random) healer decided to stop everything and have a 5+ minute discussion on the finer points of old Slipknot vs. new Slipknot. It's nice they found fellow fans but they didn't need to grind the instance to a halt. -
Tried CO last night.
I can deal with the line art, didn't even bother to turn it off. The permanent "surprise rectal exam" facial expression and imitating a monkey having a seizure when moving might take awhile to get used to. From what little I've read there's also a gear grind. On the positive side the controls seemed responsive enough, being able to charge attacks seems neat (so far, level 4).
I use skype with friends, I hate typing and playing. Strangers? Text only.
Much like how the soloists just want to be left alone and it's always the groupers that need to extoll the wonders of teaming no matter how many times you tell them to shove off, the chatterboxes need to understand that not everyone is going to want to talk with you just to validate your self worth. -

Real life. 20x better (as long as you do it right)
Nearly die in a fire, (the traditional die in a fire would make it impossible for further communications), then decide if you wish to say that. -
When it's ~40% of ~5% of their income they may just not care. When some non-zero percentage of that ~40% will still give them money through other games they really have no incentive to care about what amounts to a rounding error.

Quote:If there was logic in business they'd have tried* to sell CoH to get money on top of cutting expenses instead of burning off the good will of many former customers and cutting expenses. Not sure if you saying what I think you saying (that the game is canned because corporate accountants dont get it.)
Some exec likely got told to do something** to cut costs, and they did.
*as in publicly announce they were trying to sell it, privately ask for an outrageous sum that no one would pay, then get to truthfully tell us "Sorry, no serious takers" and turn out the lights.
**Quick! Someone do something to someone! -
The only logic in business is in their billing systems, and that's only because programmers had to translate creative accounting to something machines could understand.
-
If it was the only option, starting from scratch is far superior to no game at all.
(Plus I'm not that into "End Game" stuff as it was). -
I'd go up to double, but I'd hope there were lower price points available since it'd be hard to get new people to sub at $30/month.
None of the other MMOs I play or have tried are so friendly when it comes to grouping with friends. Easy interzone travel, other than TFs levels only matter in which powers you have, no real gear grind, and just about any combination of ATs can succeed.
