When we have people with links to the save CoH petition their sig saying they can't wait for B&S on the official CoH forums there's little chance of getting the non-CoH crowd to care.

If all I'm doing is depriving myself of something that could be entertaining by boycotting NCSoft, I'm fine with that. I'd love to see them burn for this. While I'll effectively play no part in it their stock may take care of that on its own, so it's just a matter a time.

Due to ESRB guidelines, however, our marketing material must abide by a different set of considerations than the final product. This is why Blade & Soul's rating is listed as "pending." It is NCSOFT West's intention to accurately depict the game in its original, unaltered form, with only minor adjustments for gameplay considerations.

Presentation probably has something to do with it.

CoH players could make their own cheese cake. B&S (apparently) has it prepackaged and ready to go off the rack.

One thing to B&S's credit is the outfits are items but they don't affect stats so you can chose your look without having to run around in a micro-bikini just because it has better stats than your full plate armor suit.

That said, bypassing the ratings system is a pretty sleazy move.

Market it for what it is. Let it tank on its own merits.

This also allows you to go flat to *facepalm* depending on the player (much like CoH with it's one slider).

And you focus on that, but don't mention all the other body sliders that lets you do so much?
I haven't watched the videos Father Xmas linked yet but,

Actually it looks like they have three or four sliders devoted to breasts. Size, spacing horizontally, location vertically and angle pointing apart (?!). Someone spent way too much time creating this.
Breast facing? alignment? aiming? whatever the appropriate term that's a bit much.

Three of those sliders you listed in CO affect things besides breasts. Body mass affects the whole body, the chest sliders work on the whole trunk, just not the breasts.

*edit: I wonder if males have sliders to pick which way their bits of anatomy are hanging in B&S. If you can adjust that for the female dangly bits it'd be misandrist to not provide males with the same option.

Loathing of NCSoft aside, "this will end well". A few posts up I was going to give them some benefit of doubt but when they admit to having to cheat the ESRB, there's a lot less doubt. Especially if there are four sliders just for breasts.

Actually, I'd be more ok (still not buying it or any NCSoft product) with it if they'd just market it as an H game. Cheesing the rating system just makes it even more sleezy.

Ouch, I hope they have their resumes ready.

    [/comedy]

Before the CoH cash shop, I had a subscription and picked up whatever booster trickled out So $15 a month and $10(?) every three months or so. After the cash shop, they were getting the sub, $15, and between powersets and costume sets another $15 from the store a month.

From my perspective the cash shop was good for the game and bad for my wallet. <insert rationalizations here>

CO I'm approaching differently. No continual sub, just when characters approach 40 for the free slots and then using discounted time cards, limit spending to less than what a month's sub costs and buy only stuff I would have bought as gold (costumes, account wide unlocks). It's probably good for the MMO genre that CoH wasn't an 800lb gorilla, I'm probably in the minority but the ripples could have hurt the non-WoW MMOs.

Does anyone know what the minimum sliders look like on B&S? CoH could go rather athletic (not entirely flat) at minimum. That'd be a more interesting comparison, as if B&S couldn't get down into average human range, then it's the designer's and game's choices, not the player's.

Hypothetical: CoH at minimum is A, B&S at minimum is DD. (Not actual sizes, exaggerated (possibly) just for example.). Then CoH "the game" can be compared to B&S "the game"

Hypothetical: CoH and B&S have minimums of A, and maximums of DD. (See previous disclaimers.) Then it's down to CoH Players versus B&S Players.

If I could 0 star NCSoft I would, but as much as I loath them I won't purposefully mis-rate a product.
  15. Typos in CoH's mission text seem like such a non-issue now...

Probably very unlikely but it'd be nice if PWE/Cryptic took advantage of CoH's slaying and tried to buff out some of the rough spots. Like updating their wiki or making Justiciar say "I can't let a beginner like you try to do Whiteout alone, get some help ya hoser." when you try to start Whiteout at 18 solo.

I just got someone up to the apparent alert socially acceptable minimum level of 18 and I'm still not sure I want to try them since a> not 40 b> not purpled c> never done them before which, at least to initial appearance, makes their use as an alternate leveling path questionable.

With DfB the worst that could happen was a badge run gets screwed up on the first badge and since you exemplar to level 2 - 6(?) no one cares what your natural level is.

I've got a $5 box code waiting for my two free slots to approach 40 so I can go gold, hit 40 and get the two free slots then go back to silver after the month is up, so I'd still need to shell out for the freeform if I wanted to keep playing it.

Cryptic can thank NCSoft for my new MMO stinginess. The less invested the less to be lost.*

I had been subscribed to both WoW (since retail) and CoH (since issue 13-14ish) continuously and about the only CoH thing I didn't buy was the origins pack so it's not like I didn't spend a fair bit on MMOs. Maybe once CO proves its staying power I might sub but that'll be awhile yet.

*I always figured CoH would just go into a maintenance purgatory mode. UO (my first MMO) is still running. The EQs are still around. What's the likelihood that they'd completely shutdown CoH...

I don't feel so bad about giving up at the boss of mission #4 now.

It took more tries than I'd like to admit to finish #1.
#3 with the three sets of Mot knows how many waves of multiple villains was brutal but the crews at the shield generators weren't nearly as squishy as the guy from #1.
After getting through #1 and #3, I didn't want to call it quits on #4 but there are limits to my stubbornness. I'm sort of glad that I gave up before I got to #5 now that you've described the bug. That might have induced some table-flipping.

Are the other comic series and adventure packs able to be completed (solo) at this time?

Bugged for just solo play or teams as well? Hopefully just solo since there are only 5(?) TF like things in CO (the comic series and adventure packs, if there are more repeatable multiple mission TF like things I'm all ears, need selling points).

On a broad scale I've liked the idea behind Whiteout so far, the implementation, let's just leave it at I like the idea behind Whiteout.

Is there a better wiki than CO-Wiki? (If only NCSoft had realized, strike that, cared, just how far beyond the competition CoH and its community support were. Tomax, paragonwiki, so far I can't find their equal for CO.)
  21. After attempting Whiteout solo on as a silver Night Avenger I now look fondly on the ambushes in CoH that used to be annoying.

At least CoH tended to ambush you with minions and maybe a lt on normal difficulty. CO sends wave after wave villain+ and lesser types, without a pause. (So no health regen or re-stealthing to use the NA's schtick). The boss battle where one master villain became three master villains (and couldn't be targeted until aggro'd so no assassin's stike) was where I was thankful there are no nega-stars once you run out of normal stars. Stars are another thing I'm not entirely happy with. That mission is going to be sitting in my log for awhile.

Not being able to easily find what things look like is yet another but that's an issue with the wiki.

But it's that or nothing and for the $25 I've spent on it (NA, the account wide costume slots, a costume set and parts) I've got my claws stalker mostly existing and my staff tanker is now a scythe scrapper (heavy wizard's staff a> does not have a nob on the end and b> is more like giant's cancerous legbone, but the batwing scythe looks nice). If freeform slots weren't so outrageously expensive, $50, I'd have been hard pressed to resist buying one to make a more tanker version of the Devastator/heavy weapons, $5 is impulse money, $50 is not

    Got it in one.

The three months are just the death throes and NCSoft's attempt at positive PR spin (which a few people have taken hook, line, and sinker) . We thought CoH might have a slim chance at recovery in the beginning but we didn't know yet that NCSoft had never intended any other outcome. CoH was dead at the announcement, we just didn't know it, all the while SaveCoH was playing nice and playing right into NCSoft's hands.

NCSoft deftly avoided a deathground scenario by leaving us an apparent escape route, and we took it.

Perhaps someone that tried to buy CoH will drop a dime on NCSoft and let their revenuers know that they may want to check for some overvalued write-offs. Those "negotiations" may not have been possible without the gaming community's goodwill, so hopefully NCSoft took enough rope to hang themselves with.

If you believe NCSoft's carefully worded statement it was realignment of focus that was the issue, not survivability.

If it was survivability as the issue there was a lot of fat (secret project(s), future development) that could have been trimmed before cutting into the meat.

I wouldn't say the players who left jumped ship so much as had their ship shot out from under them. We didn't get a "oh, by the way, we're going to shut your game down". We got a "oh, by the way, we shut your game down, go buy GW2".

The punitive advancement rate of DA was the only thing to ever have me considering dropping my subscription. Ultimately the bits of new non-Incarnate content, the VIP token costumes (mecha claws were too cool for NCSoft), and access to all my characters kept me subscribed IN SPITE of DA.

DA, if it were not attached to the incarnate system, would have been a cool zone on its own. But after Heather Heather Heather Heather Heather oh hey I can run the random map part of Heather now without looking at the screen Heather Heather Heather Heather... it lost its luster.

For everything else they did, I'd give serious consideration to whatever project they land in, but for what was done in DA there would be some reservations about any so-called endgame.
