  2. Somewhat off topic but is there someone somewhere who can even tell the following characters apart, and do you feel bad about not being to do so?

  3. It's true that women in super hero comics are drawn to look sexy. I'm not positive it's entirely an issue of subjugation to male fantasy though. Take a look at the popular Halloween costumes out there. Many women like dressing sexy, and the concept of being "the hot girl" appeals to them. The character I more rarely see real life women want to identify with is the vanilla Lois Lane "hero's girlfriend" type. Or maybe I just hang out with particularly rambunctious women. Case in point, the last time I let one of my female friends play CoH unsupervised I ended up with a character on my account who looked like a cross between a cop, a cat girl, and a street walker.

As for me personally, I'm a gay guy, so the breast slider is a sexual non-issue, and yet based on the costumes you posted your friend would not like my costumes either. My "Joan of Arkansas" character, who I don't think anyone would think was sexualized in any way, has the maxed breasts because her armor looks unshapely without it; I wanted the clear shape of a woman there, and the maxed breasts was the best way I could do it. On the other hand my "Attila the Honey" character is intentionally over the top hot, but I left the slider at a more reasonable 75% because being dressed in what essentially consists of a Medieval bra and fishnet panties gets the look across. I didn't touch the sliders at all for "Quick Brown Fox" but the pretty much not there outfit definitely makes her look the most outrageous of the three. Let your friend say what she will about guys always wanting to max the sliders, but it's definitely not always a sexual thing.

The set might be popular conceptually, but if they stuck to what the set would do, they'd complain like they do with Energy Blast.

Well you'd think that Fire would burn down buildings and Electricity would be a bad idea in water but since neither of those things happens I think Water would be ok with just a semi-plausible effect. IMO it should be a low damage Control set with a secondary effect of -Damage.
  5. I do wish Defender buff and debuff powers had bigger radii and range in general than other versions of the set. Keep crossing my fingers that one day Castle will agree. Meanwhile I don't know why (if?) the radius of Dark Miasma's heal was changed but the set is still very strong regardless.
  6. I dont have Mids in front of me but look on the second or third tab for a breakdown of the effects. The sleep pulse duration should be longer. This actually CAN be a factor in the powers strength, because, for example, individual pulses of the power can miss.

    So, recapping:

    (a) The mob gets KB'd into the control/debuff patch. They take damage and die. "Ebil KB!" Wait, no, useful KB.

    (b) The mob DOESN't get KB'd. They take damage. They die.

... and the problem is what again? That they die in a slightly different location? They didn't die from YOUR AOE? Oh no.

I can only assume that the only people you've played with did nothing but slot their powers with 3 acc/3 KB and randomly change targets between every single shot the way you talk
Or. The player is using Dual Pistols and turns the knockback off when they don't want to do it. A shocking exploit, that, according to some posters.

Better pay attention to who you're actually replying to before you make utterly moronic statements such as this. Especially when you make them to someone who's pointed out, multiple times, having every AT to 50, having well over 200 characters on two accounts. Think I MIGHT, POSSIBLY, be somewhat familiar with the powersets available?
I don't know. From the look of it you have over 23,000 message board posts but I don't think talking to people is one of your strengths.

A "Slippery Slope" is a fallacy. Not a "fallacy" like internet people sometimes use it to mean simply "not true," but the actual name of a classical logical error.

    http://www.nizkor.org/features/falla...ery-slope.html

I'm not going to make a strong judgment about whether what the rest of what you're saying here is likely or unlikely to come true, but in calling your assertions a "slippery slope" you are actually strongly implying your argument doesn't work. I'm going to leave the rest of the statement about elitism and the like alone because it's simply offensive.

EDIT: Ok that was a little too strongly worded. My point was supposed to be that in calling people who don't like knockback "elitists" or implying they are in league with them, you make it difficult to respond. I take responsibility for the way I originally worded it, so I'll leave it up. A little (maybe a lot) more discipline and proof reading before hitting the Post button would behoove me.
  9. Hmm.

"Hey Castle, Illusion Control, Dark Miasma, and Robotics accidentally got nerfed."

"Really? Let me put that fix at the top of my list."

from the source material (only example I can think of atm is Jynx from teen titans), the "bad luck" is very envirnment and situation based, where as in CoH we only have 9 powers to convery a huge range of things that could be considered "bad luck"

Just throwing some sample stuff out there (dont want to get too caught up in it since its not the point of this thread, but just to illustrate):

Lucky Shot - (Base power: Build Up (sort of)) Toggle. You and anyone within 25ft of you has a chance to be affected by a Build Up effect at random intervals.

Contagious Fortune - (Base power: Leadership) Your good luck rubs off on your teammates. Any of them who come within 15ft of you pick up additional defense, which stays with them for a time even if they wander away from you.

Siphon Fate - (Base power: ??) You siphon away the positive forces protecting an enemy, stunning it, while providing temporary stun and hold protection to yourself and any teammate nearby.

Windfall - (Base power: ??) When toggled on, all small inspirations that drop during combat will be of the same type as the inspiration located in the top left corner of your inspiration tray. [Option 2: You and all teammates receive 10% more inspiration drops; this power is always on.]

Undo Fate - (Base power: Resurrection) Revives all players within a 25ft radius. Can be used even if the caster herself is dead, to the same effect.

Malediction - (Base power: Sonic Repulsion w/ lowered chances to hit and kb mag) Enemies who come within 10ft of the selected team mate have a chance to slip and fall.

I know you said not to say it, but Water Control is still at the top of my list. Especially because of how re-colorable it is. (But if we get it I'm sure we'll be limited to the 'Ice Palette" to avoid issues).

Gravity Blast. Particularly if they can think of a way to do a nuke that teleports enemies to a center point and damage is partly based on how many you slam together. (Basicallly: make the nuke a pet that has an AAO type power). Would also love to see a high damage PBAoE power with extreme knock up.

Luck/Fortune/Pre-cognizance. Possibly very easy to do without adding new art assets.

Entropy/Chaos/Strange Forces/Logic Manipulation, because it can be played as so many different things (spells, a curse, special technology etc)

    Atomic/Molecular Control/Alchemy.

Cloning as an Armor set. Extremely unlikely, but we now have the tech to clone our characters, and even selectively recolor them. I think this would work much better for Scrapper/Brute/maybe Tankers than Masterminds as is usually suggested.
  12. While we're on this subject, I demand to know why so many people are anti-Force Bubble. Force Bubble is huge mitigation against melee attacks. I like to leave it up all the time. Sometimes I even push enemies into the tank or a debuff patch but in my book any Repel is good Repel. I think its unfair when teams kick me, because it's just my play style. I have enough experience to know that teams always need enemies knocked away from them and anyone who disagrees with me needs to learn to play. Because that is huge melee mitigation and always better than bunching enemies up for mezzing or blasting. One time I did an all Force Field Task Force and we all turned on Force Bubble and we did ok so that means the power is always useful. I don't care if it slows down my team. They should learn to deal with it. If you disagree it means you're a bad person and a farmer who just wants enemies lined up in a row like bowling pins. I'm Oedipus Tex and I approve of this message.

[Paid for by the committee to waver conveniently back and forth about whether Repel is meant to be an advantage or a penalty in order to win a message board argument.]

This on/off business will have more issues then what it solves.

    Please see: Dual Pistols.

The world didn't end then either.

I'm almost positive the reason Cold ranks so low here but so high in "what would you bring" type conversations is that Cold brings so little mitigation to the actual user. Even Force Field and Empathy have a really good low-ish level power that helps them survive. While it's not popular to talk about, the lack of a self heal or personal mezz protection in Cold is really noticeable relative to other sets outside of IO'ed builds. The only sets in a similar position are Storm (which can sometimes get by thanks to the sheer chaos it brings) and Trick Arrow (which... well yeah).

Actually I do it for two reasons.

    1) I think the change I want (a KB toggle in Energy Blast) would make the game better.
    2) Such a feature has already been tested in another set (Dual Pistols) and shown to work.

You don't have to abstain from using it completely, just wait for some of the other AoEs go off (you have to play with your team a few spawns to get how long you should wait), then just unleash the AoEs so that a good portion of the spawn will be defeated. It may have the side-effect of pushing still-alive foes closer as there will be gaps where defeated foes lie now. Even if it does scatter, most of the spawn is gone and everyone is switching to ST cleanup.

However the problem still remains that a Defender is not going to kill the spawn, he or she is mostly going to fling them. Energy Blast might skate by on a Blaster, but on a Defender, the lack of control and the tying of DPS to knockback makes the set very suspect to me. It is mainly why I feel Energy Blast should have the toggle. Dual Pistols does, and I use that a lot to toggle knockback on and off when a particular shot should or shouldn't knock something back. I feel like the "masters" of knockback using Energy Blast should probably have the same advantage.

For most other sets I don't really feel the same way, with Khelds a possible exception. With other sets I kind of feel like the knockback portion is already mostly manageable. Plus I'd like for Energy Blast to have an ability that is (at least mostly) unique, since knockback can be so redundant, especially without a hard mezz anywhere in the set.

Plus players could possibly never learn how to use KB correctly because they were told to turn it off when they started either the game or a new toon with KB powers for the first time.
What I find interesting about this is the way that I, at least, have learned to "use KB correctly" is to rarely use it at all. The sole exception to that is on powers where KB is tied to DPS and therefor unavoidable. Being able to toggle it on and off at will would at least let me "use it correctly" by flinging stuff when I actually mean to.

It's only a problem in the eyes of certain players who think they should never have to move once they pick a spot and on those who've become so addicted to AoE that they can no longer handle scatter.
You seem to be arguing that knockback is actually penalty.
  20. I personally think the only set that really deserves the ability to cancel its own knockback is Energy Blast. I would just give it the Dual Pistols treatment (the "other" DPS knockback set that nobody ever thinks of as such because it already has the ability to turn it off).

    Electric/???

Psi-nado is basically like a combination of Fireball and Air Superiority. When you cast it everything takes damage and have a chance to do the little flip knock up animation. It's both wider (20ft vs 15ft for standard damage AoEs) and has longer range (100ft vs 80 ft) than standard AoEs, but costs a lot of endurance. It works great with Electric because the cage power doesn't stop enemies from getting knocked.
  22. I think the reason they attack unstunned enemies is because they work like enemies do. The pet aggros on whoever attacked them. I'm not sure of that but it seems plausible.
  23. Superior Invisibility and Group Invisibility are not the same as Super Speed + a Stealth IO. The Stealth IO suppresses if you take damage or attack. Superior Invisibility and GI invisibility does not. Stealth IOs will get you part of the way but they do not let you move with the impunity that actual invisibility powers do.

Super Speed + an AoE stealth power (e.g. Steamy Mists or Arctic Fog) is also better than a Super Speed + a Stealth IO and also does not suppress. [EDIT: I misremembered this part. Super Speed stealth does suppress on attacking, the fog does not, so you keep 35ft of Stealth.]

I also believe SI is a must-have for PVP.
  24. I agree probably Sonic Resonance and for good reason.

The odds of that happening are actually pretty good over time. Assuming folks are correct that there is a 2.5% chance to proc per percent of HP under 50, an AoE with a 16 target cap fired into a group all at exactly 50% HP (or is it 49%?) has a 0.985^16 = 78% chance that no one takes double damage, which means the odds you crack at least one are about 22%. It should happen about once every 4-5 attacks if you were always fighting enemies at exactly that amount of HP.

These odds tip extremely quickly too. If everyone's at 40% HP, you're looking at 0.75^16 = 1% chance to miss all procs, or a 99% chance at least enemy one takes double damage.
